Got both units today and happily hashing on defaults at 450Gh/s for each unit. No issues at all.

Thank you, Bitmain. I am a very happy customer.

The only issue with ordering directly from Bitmain is that they don't take PayPal, only Bec and I don't have any since I am new to this. Plus PayPal is very easy to use.

You are on the wrong forum then.

Gee you are very helpful, thank you!

I was joking about what you said about PayPal. Sorry if I offended you. Smiley

You'll have to transfer your fiat to an exchange like btc-e.com or bitstamp.net. They take wire transfers from banks. Problem is that you are dealing in two different financial systems and one of them (the fiat world) doesn't make it easy to convert in the crypto currency world.
383  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 23, 2014, 03:57:26 AM

I think you're about to be scammed, dude.

well this is the weird bit, they are saying I can have the refund if I want but will obviously loose my pre-order. Not sure if I should just wait until 31st July and see if they come through or just ask for refund now. I got nothing to lose at the moment as I have time to escalate the dispute with Paypal and the seller has been responding to my messages so have been cooperative.

Refund.  Wait for Bitmaintech to sell Batch 4 and order at that time like everyone else.  Remove the middle man.  Get your order direct from the source, and lose any doubt you have about it being a scam.

yeah but what if they are an honest seller? All I am doing then is losing spot in the queue, waiting for refunds to be done and then trying to order another unit form someone else weeks later.

They aren't an HONEST reseller. They are promising times of shipping that BITMAIN can't even promise, nobody has heard a word from BITMAIN in days regarding shipping yet this copycat company knows  Roll Eyes - why on earth would you trust them?

Well I asked for a refund which they promptly did so that’s nice.

Its really hard to know in this wild wild west if they are a scam or not. I replied to them and thanked them and also suggested they should have reps on forums like this one to spread a good word about their company and instil confidence in potential buyers minds.

So I possibly lost a spot and now have to wait for refund to hit my CC which might take a while.

Can someone recommend other reputable sellers that sell the Antminer S3 ? Preferable in Asia e.g. Hong Kong for quicker shipping?

I'd just order from BitMain at bitmaintech.com/product.htm. They're based in Shenzhen and they will get you Batch 4 quicker than anyone since they produce them. We can all vouch for them. They are one of the very few manufacturers that are decent. The vast majority of them are scammers or quickly turn into them.

"Just trying to understand why bother?"

Without bitcoin miners, bitcoin dies.  Transactions are not processed. Everything you're holding becomes worthless.   That's why we bother.
It's also a fun hobby for us that makes money. We enjoy the technical aspect of it as well as supporting the cause. That's also why most of us are DOS'ing UPS's tracking site wondering when customs will get done installing their custom spy chips. LOL (really, I'll be watching where these go)

scammers DON'T  get on flights and attend conferences.
scammers DON'T sign deals (that are verifiable) with chip manufacturers
scammers DON'T answer the telephone
scammers DON'T have their profiles and pictures on Linkedin and Facebook.
scammers DON'T invite people to their offices for visits and then welcome people into their office.

and that's just for starters - there's a hidden agenda here by the trolls...

no doubt about it....

eh, ever heard of BFL - they do all the above. This was their las attempt to sell: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=518189.msg5728309#msg5728309. Opened a new thread after all the questions and lack of hashing proof.

One of my only gripes with mine (outside an unneeded UPS shipment release frustration bomb - would only release 1 of 2 boxes to my front door)...

It lists on the UPS label on each box "Description: BITCOIN MINER" -  Still not comfortable with this being out in the open given what the hardware is...

This is idiotic: each box "Description: BITCOIN MINER" - they might as well say "PLEASE STEAL ME!" Who put the description on the box, UPS or Bitmain? That means more eyes on our personal business. Especially if we live in repressive countries.

Given the ability and nature of the NSA as exposed by Snowden, who **doesn't** live in a repressive country these days?
I miss privacy. I want it back.

What if you buy $80,000 worth of s3 I'd have around 66TH/S in power.
Since I don't pay for electricity I'd get my ROI in about 71 days and make about 300k in one year...? Why isn't everyone doing this.. Lol

There is a difference between not paying electricity and having infinite electricity. Your lease might provide you with free utilities but don't think that they'll let you use over a $1000 in electricity per month.

more like $5000

This industry is so dynamic it's not possible to accurately project earnings, prices or hashing power on the network  from month to month. It's a very fast paced space both in innovation of technical products and services. However, that's why this is so much fun!

Do you guys think anyone would invest in me having a couple miners in my dorm? I don't pay electricity and I have some extra space. How would I look for a miner?
its not like we dont want, but its too risky
while we dont know who you are...
and can we trust you or not...
that kind of questions...

so, if we're going to host in ur place, we should have something to hold on to..
like ur reputation... or something like that...
its kind of difficult to host in ur place while we dont know who you're sir...

she is 22...looking for adventurous miner...

allegedly ...

I got my shipping notification:

Ordered at 2014-07-04 03:37:33

Batch 3s should be up now. Bitmain, you are awesome!
393  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: July 20, 2014, 02:34:23 AM
Cool, Thanks. I'll "Roll with that" and re-calc.... (if Titan were here today)

Much better, but Titan will be what compared to Neptune when it arrives?

Like 15-20 PH.  Equivalent to 6000 Neptunes or 17000 s2.

Yea, that's quite a spike coming in right now. China?
Bitmain S3s batch 1 completed shipping, batch 2 and batch 3 on the way. You pay, they deliver, oh the difference.

Does anyone know what I should put in the "use custom DNS server" box?

Should I leave it blank?

A friend of mine, ChuckBuck would tell you to put 8.8.8.8 but I don't think it really matters, you can use the usual, 192,168.1.1 if you want.

I like the 8's because it's an alternative backup plan that works.

--

That said, I got confirmation from UPS today so I should get it by next weekend, which is what I was expecting from day 1 anyways.

Anyone from Canada got their S3 orders already who know what the import cost per unit is?

I know we're not on  laws like UK but is it still considered as a "Computer Game Gateway" like the S1 was?

I don't know anything about VAT laws and such but here in Canada, we only have a 10% sales tax at the border.

Thanks.

I am also curious on the import fees for Canada & the USA,

8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 are googles DNS. Nearly always up and reliable.

Bitcoin Miner Problems #257: Needing to take a crap and a shower, but can't, because you don't want to miss the doorbell, and not signing for the delivery.
Redneck engineering has fixed that for you - toilet on the front porch.

General questions about the S3 now that mine have been hashing for a few hours...

1) Why in the name of all that's holy does it randomly beep?  Every now and then it just goes "BEEEEEP!" It's not like it's rebooting... it just decides to let everyone know, "Hey, I'm here!  Pay attention to me!"
2) I know the "o" in the miner status means "OK" and that "x" means "error".  What does "-" mean?

General comments:

1) At stock clocks it hashes almost exactly to spec on p2pool (my local node).  Initially it was around 450GH/s, but after settling down and going for a few hours now, it's about 439GH/s.
2) Overclocking it has far less effect on p2pool than on another pool.  For example, at 250, I get about 455GH/s on p2pool.  I get 500GH/s elsewhere with the same settings.
The beep is internet connection lost or failed to get work. It will retry to get work or listen for the internet connection up to a point. If it keeps hashing then its doing what its supposed too.
The config now allows you to turn it off if it is really annoying.

Anyone remember when B2 starts shipping?

It was before the 20th, but it may be a day or 2 late since some b1 are late. I think I got one of the last b2s. Hours after I ordered they went to b3 and the lower price Sad

IMO anybody ordered late in late batch 1 or batch 2 are going to be shafted a bit here because if you had order early on the next batch, you would have paid less and received your unit on the same day or at the worst next day.

The least BITMAIN could have done is to at least come here and say that some of the late orders in batch 1 are a bit delayed since it's already 18th in china and they are supposed to be start shipping batch 2 today   Roll Eyes .  So going by the way they have been shipping batch 1, your late batch 2 order should be shipped the same day as Batch 3 early orders   Wink  expect those people with early batch 3 orders paid less than you
I figured it was just my luck. I always tend to purchase them when the price goes down the next day Smiley Not sweating it. I figured I'd get them some time next week. My guess is these guys are all hands on deck boxing and shipping which is why they are passing on updating everyone. If they post here then it'll be 20-40 responses and more time spent replying with info. When I watched the orders coming in through the blockchain they were coming in at least every minute for batch 2 and 3. Most were for 2 units, though. I think it would have saved them time and money if they would ship 2 to a box since the minimum order is 2. I would be very surprised if the rest of B1 doesn't go out today.

I wonder if theres any remote chance in this stage despite their tos to get a Titan refund (10k) or if it would be a lost cause. I really dont want to deal with Kncminer anymore and need the money to buy a house.

ask them and be politely persistent. Explain your situation and maybe you'll run into the 1 human there that has a bit of decency left. There be none, but it doesn't hurt to try.
