As someone who isn't an obvious shill or troll,  I also agree.  The 2-1 thing and extra neptune being exclusive was outright deceptive.

Indeed. Deceptive practices seem the rule rather than the exception in the bitcoin world. It does not bode will for the success of bitcoin.

The article on arstechnica that got slashdotted was just full of bitcoin manufacturers, service vendors, and trading houses and the like are just shady MFs. The comments are just as ignorant, but unfortunately that's the perception and what grabs news headlines. If this industry is ever going to prosper then we need to get smarter as consumers and business owners and support honest, decent businesses and conduct ourselves in the same manner. Otherwise, this industry will never get the respect it deserves and never leave the realm of hobbyists.

huh?

I hope it never leaves the realm of hobbyists. Ambitious hobbyists? perhaps, but hobbyists nonetheless.

too bad it feels like that ship has already sailed....  Cry

Meh, (ill-informed) hobbyists will still exist. Go read the Rbox and S3 threads. They're still excited about 300-500GHs units.

But yes, profitable @home mining is gasping it's last breath if not already dead.

gasping in the heat! yeah, I turned off all my miners today just to take a bitcoin vacation and enjoy a nice, quiet, cool apartment...

it lasted about an hour.

There's always room for hobbyists for sure, but this industry needs some solid, reliable manufacturers and services for it to survive and prosper. Anyway, sorry, this is getting OT from the main KnC trolling and shilling. Please continue Smiley

must have got my tracking number sometime last night as well.
It appears they are actually shipping en masse.
did anyone notice if the hashrate spiked then dropped recently? <smirk>

I believe that the network hash rate is unknown and must be statistically inferred from number of transaction blocks found by the network in a given period of time taking into account the current difficulty.  Due to the probabilistic nature of solving a block, there is some inherent variance (which is also called luck) in the network hash rate.  This might be why it appears to be changing quickly.  I don't think you can pin it down to KNCminer at this time but certainly if you watch the rate over a longer time-frame it might be more telling.

Wait to see what the final figure is at diffchange time... any guesses?
I'm guessing over 40% at this rate...

My bet is 32%.  KNC has to be somewhat careful as batch 3 hasn't sold out yet Wink

Poor KnC only found 9 blocks today. That's over a 50% drop from a few days ago. What are they going to do only making $120,000 a day? We may need to start a foundation to support the starving bitcoin hardware manufacturers.
444  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: June 22, 2014, 07:31:15 PM
This shit is crazy.... It really looks like they are mining with our machines RIGHT NOW.
I can think of no other way that hashpower could possibly magically appear
https://blockchain.info/pools?timespan=48hrs

Looks like a BFL replay...   https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=659828.0
The drama of it all....  Holy Swashbucklers.

Kudos to the folks at blockchain.info for putting all that together and figuring out who was who. They've always been mining but they would show up as the Known Other which was close to 40% before they broke it out out recently. So, what it doesn't show is the hashrate that KnC might be using on those other pools if they are using that. However, considering how greedy those bastards are they probably don't want to share anything with some lowly pool. They have no image to protect nor do they care either.
445  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: I no longer work for Butterfly Labs (BFL) on: June 22, 2014, 07:25:25 PM
BCP what do you do for bfl? Are you the gimp they bring out on special occasions? Have you been moonlighting for KnC when they use the gimp on their customers?
446  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: June 22, 2014, 02:37:49 AM

They found 22 blocks today at 25 btc a block * 600usd = $330,000 today * 30 days in a month = $9,900,000 * 12 months/year = $118,800,000. So, no ROI for YOU. For them plenty of ROI.

//edit - numbers were off a bit (looked at 48hr as opposed to 24hr)

Is anyone having problems with Neptune's shutting down due to thermal issues or is this yet more FUD being spread by haters and envious ne'er do wells towards KNC ?

Anyone who? Only 1 Neptune is in the wild!

I figured you'd be lurking somewhere nearby RoadStress … you are never late to a KNC FUD party and your merry band 'o gentlemen can not be far behind. Now that we have OKAVNGR and RS in play, where is the raskul when you need him ?

If we want to start discussing bitcoin miners that you could cook breakfast on, lets start with that howler the SP10.

Thanks for the heads up on some of the trolls to watch out for. As a new member and soon-to-be Neptune owner, I have found this to be a "Wild West" forum for someone like myself. Just here looking for some straight info that might be of benefit to me, and to make a few sincere posts of my own Cheesy

By Wild West you mean differing opinions? Yes, we have those here. You can choose which to believe. This forum is a good forum and you have a lot of technical people here with various backgrounds that can help you if you have a question. Welcome to the forum from the Ho Ho Troll.

Those temps are freaky high.
What type of fans are used for the miner?
Brand, size and CFM.
You better modified those box with extra heatsink at the outside before you do a overclock.
That GREEDY SAM not COOL anymore save less than 1 yuan for a connector.

perhaps he/they would prefer if your rigs burst into flames so he can blame you for plugging/unplugging connectors too much..

and the metal plate not fitting over the VRMs snugly is hardly surprising, i was half expecting them to turn up in pieces (although they kinda did with the multiple boxes)
If they burst into flames KfC will blame it on shipping or the customer mishandling their duct taped, poorly designed, cheap component crap.
449  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANN: BITMAIN has Tested Its 28nm Bitcoin Mining Chip BM1382 on: June 21, 2014, 12:19:18 AM
Yeah, we're there. Lets be practical. If the S3 sells for more BTC than it can  mine @ 18% diff increases, then lets not buy it.

There has to be some incentive in it for the miner.

OK ?

NEVER!!! That makes too much sense!!!

450  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: June 20, 2014, 05:27:37 PM
WTF?    Elenin... what was your order #?
my first order still says "in progress"?
Ouch!
One of mine says this:

11730   Cancelled   BitPay   UPS Zone 7   10,166.00 $   2013 November 26 16:09

oh wait, they all say that. damn, what the heck was I thinking?  Roll Eyes
451  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: June 20, 2014, 05:23:09 PM
OK... one picture with the 3 boxes:

Are those riveted or screwed together? Any chance of popping open a case and taking a pic?

I haven't open them yet (will do tomorrow).

Looking forward to seeing a production board, I pulled down the new source for the Neptune, looking through it now.. On the surface it looks to be a fairly similar setup to the Jupiter chip so much of the same logic should apply.

Can you find the reported error "KnC: 1.1.118 Failed to setwork (7)" ??.... I do get those whole screens full...(with occasionally a "Accepted share").

By the way: one Box pulls 391 Watt at the wall (this all excluding controller-board), and can do 666 Ghs (In the 3 boxes setup) making: 391 / 666 = 0.587 W/Ghs.
But the 5 boxes setup is: 391 / 616 = 0.635 W/Ghs......

5 boxes pulling about 610GH/s a little underpowered - are those reeeely 20nm chips or underpowered 28nm Nov Jup chips. Hrmmmm. Dude, I have my doubts on this one.

Elenelen, thank you so much for sharing your experience with us. Maybe ckolivas could shed some light on those setwork errors. Do you know if you're using cgminer or bfgminer?

These guys never cease to amaze me with their ghetto-designed products. They are such a damned joke.

Seriously, for $12k they couldn't do a better designed enclosure?  Damnable, contemptible assholes.

Lol bro u mad ? jk
LOL - good one!

Maybe a bit off-topic but still relevant to the thread...

But what does "gimp" mean when used to describe the Neptune? I've always known it to mean handicapped. But does it have another meaning here?

It is a line in the movie "Pulp Fiction" by Quentin Tarantino. It's a very unpleasant scene, but the gimp is locked up and used in situations by two crooks to do nasty stuff to their captors. Here's a bit on it from npr - video is unpleasant (don't click if you're squeamish or have some righteous indignation), but you'll understand the reference of what KnC is doing to its customers: http://www.npr.org/2014/05/24/315251305/bring-out-the-gimp-the-man-behind-the-mask-in-pulp-fiction

It feels so f***ing great that I made the only logical choice and asked for a refund.
There are some really delusional people in this thread thinking that waiting for the Neptune is a good thing.
A Neptune will never mine 22BTC, NEVER.
Most customers will start mining at over 15 billion difficulty.

Btw I remember back in November when I ordered mine I was expecting difficulty to be at around 10 billion maximum, but then again I was expecting delivery in April/May.

I thought it would only be 2-3 billion and I really thought I would get it in April, too. As soon as Bitcoinorama let loose they were still in the design phase in Feb and realized they had done absolutely nothing in Nov and Dec. I knew then that 'ol Avenger was right and Q1 was a marketing ploy. Punched out and turned the refund into a house. Much more enjoyable experience than what you folks are going to go through. I really just hope that no one gets hurt from these BBQ boxes. It's one thing to bring out that gimp and really f' your customers, but it's another thing altogether if a fire breaks out and God forbid someone gets seriously hurt or killed.

There is some very compelling evidence that supports this hypothesis. But the most glaringly obvious is the single PCI power connector. They're not so stupid to design it to handle 420w. But they were compelled to squeeze as much hash out of each chip that they threw away common sense.

With regards to the single PCIe connector and 425W... Understandably, this is WAY over the 150W limit and they WILL be liable if there will be fires because KnC deliberately made this a single connector. Perhaps, they are scrambling now to get a second one in....hence the hash while you wait.

From a practical point of view (try it on your own risk-this is NOT a rec)-many people had run antminer S1 dual blade on Corsair CX500M. This PSU has a single PCIe cable with a split (each half of the split feeds 180-200W blade). When I used it on one of my overclocked S1 (rated at ~400W), the cables were quite worm, but it still run OK, however the machine would not tolerate overclocking further (to 422-435W), so this was probably the culprit. The conclusion: there might be difficulties in running a single PCIe connector at 425W, but up to 400W worked (at least for a short time-I since switched to a different PSU)

I spoke with one of their engineers on IRC about this.

The information he provided was that the 150w listed in the specs for PCI-E isn't a limit it's the minimum requirement for it to be PCI-E compatible, and that that good quality PSU's can handle it fine.

I'm going the Dual EVGA 1300W route as I have them handy, early order so will report back how it goes.

Let me know if you want some Texas brisket to cook on those bad boys! I hope it works out for out and there aren't any problems.

It should just be a single box. If you go on their site they outline what the setup and power consumption is. The link is posted a few pages back from here.

Well, it looks like KnC's gimp has been seeing quite a bit of action lately.
460  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: June 19, 2014, 02:23:57 AM
Yes.  But that's the whole discussion. How can that 1 connector power up 450 + watts

I was just attempting to correct you misconceptions. You didn't appear to have read the news updates so I thought I'd link/quote them. I didn't say what KNC is attempting is logical or feasible. In fact it might be their biggest mistake yet since they seem to be purposely releasing miners into the wild that could potentially be extremely hazardous.

BBQ Miners part deux! Maybe you all are getting some of these:
