Did you make sure the heatsinks were tight? Sounds like heat issue.

I have not taken any of my S3s apart. Is that what you are suggesting? The temp is always under 40C.
That's what BitMain will recommend doing is taking off the heatsinks and reapplying the paste. I've got an undeperformer with a "-" asic, so I'll start there first. My temps are the same as yours and I only get 410 now.

We really need a bitmain FAQ. The same questions come up over and over bloating this thread.

I refuse to be sucked into the black hole that is the vortex of doom that permeates you guys.

It's past experience from the community and a strong desire to stop the scammers from taking advantage of new miners that we dose a huge amount of skepticism on any new asic mining manufacturer. We're all completely sick and tired of this which is why we all sigh when another one pops up, steals money, and delivers nothing.

Mining isn't a religion so people need to quit believing and hoping.

Under my account I sent a message on bitmaintech.com and now my message options have disappeared, has this happened to anyone before? Please help, thank you!

Must be a change on the site.  The message options are gone for me too.  I had attempted to communicate with them via that method before, but it wasn't until I sent an email instead that I got anything back.

Gone from mine as well. Did you e-mail address did you get support from them? I need to ask them about a dead miner I have. Thanks!

Bitmain,

Could you let us know about the upgrade kits for S1s and S2s? When will these be available? I'd like to upgrade all of my S1s. Also, will the DC/DC component be fixed in these?
Why bother? What cost savings are you expecting to realize from reusing an aluminum frame and maybe the controller? $40?

The benefit is not only coming from the $40 but the discount for upgrading blades.
What discount? And why would Bitmain charge less for blades use in an S1 upgrade vs an S3 purchase?

Because BitMainTech is a company doing "BUSINESS".
got it - thanks for your input. If it wasn't worth their while or worth making money off of I don;t think they would have offered in the first place. There is obviously some business sense for them to be able to turn a profit selling kits or they wouldn't bother suggesting it at all.

I had one of my S1s go belly up this morning. Won't power up. Anyone have any experience with a dead system under warranty with Bitmain? I submitted a ticket in their new support system, so hope it goes well.

S1 or S3 you mean?
S1, curious if anyone has done an RMA with Bitmain recently and what the best way to go about it is?

I can't get back to the antminer s3 interface!  I got one of my miners up and hashing because i set it to run on dhcp. So when i plugged it into my netgear switch it started hashing on btcguild like i set up, but i cant get back to its interface either.

I had to configure my ip address bc im on a 10.8.xxx.xxx ip.  When i changed the static address to match my network i can not connect back to make changes in the interface on the first miner i set up. I have not been able to log the cg mining interface back through my web browser to make any changes, point my miner in the direction of my pool, etc.  PLEASE HELP

There is a small reset on on the front of the S3.  Use a paper clip and hold it for 5 secs or so.  That should reset the device back to factory settings and you can then log in @ 192.168.1.99

I thought that would work and tried it but not having any luck.  Still not pulling u the login in the browser. What else could I try?

Make sure you restart/reboot the miner.  Also restart computer and router.

Nothing.  I emailed Bitmain with a screen shot of what I set up so maybe that will help.  Luckily i took a pic with my phone. Im sure it is really easy, and it would be but im setting this up at work (free power) with the different 10.x.xxx.xxx address which has complicated it for me. Now i cant get back into settings, ughhh

People will be less likely to help if they know that you aren't paying for your own power. Many of us have high electric cost.

FYI for those ppl using miners at work. I work in security and most security products are coming out with signatures looking for mining traffic. Most haven't zeroed in on tcp+stratum protocol and just look for http/https traffic heading to probably known sites, but it won't be long before they start looking for that as well since the specs are published. Just be careful and if you don't have explicit permission to use the device at your place of work then take it home.

I really appreciate the info on solar. We're going that route as well .

We would be interested in participating in a group buy.
Volume pricing is a good thing.

Solar powering just makes a good business decision.
Pay for input costs 1 time versus a re-occurring cost.
Isolates input cost fluctuations. Amortization of Capex becomes input cost.
Builds equity in the business.
Federal Tax incentives.
Possibly State Tax incentives.
Possible State rebates (cash).
Installation can be Depreciated.

The list goes on and on.

Oh yeah and it doesn't screw the planet in the process. lol.

We get a lot of sunshine here in South Texas, so going solar is a total no brainer. 300 days of sun a year. My AC is driving the power expense way more than the miners, so I'm going to dig into your post and start contacting people in the next few months. Thank you again for posting that info.

It's a scam.

From OP "For those wondering, I am an independent hardware reviewer and not affiliated with Biostar in any way." That's fairly obvious from the mail header - Received: from emkei.cz (emkei.cz [46.167.245.72]).

No.  Please re read the thread with my statement in mind.  The user "Biostar" is not the same user that started this thread.  Further, if "Biostar" were actually an employee of biostar, he wouldn't need to use a well known email spoofer to send me an email "originating" from a Biostar domain.

But, you go ahead and pay that $200 shipping in BTC, without escrow.  Let us know when you receive the unit.

I'm totally in agreement with you. Sometimes when I post it doesn't come out right. Sorry, amigo. This whole thread is a scam. My guess is that it's the same account. I'm so sick of the scammers inundating us with crap like this. I really appreciate you posting the headers and warning us.

I've found that the pair I have run best at 212.5 freq, --queue=1, hashing reliably for 2 days at 428. I'm fairly bummed that it won't reliably do more and won't be buying anymore until they fix the issues with the DC/DC converters.

Hi, I mostly missed the queue discussion, but the gist is that instead of
Code:
sed -i 's/--queue 4096"/--queue 0 --scan-time 1 --expiry 1"/g' /etc/init.d/cgminer
I can/should use
Code:
sed -i 's/--queue 4096/--queue 1/g' /etc/init.d/cgminer

Correct? Thanks.

Hmm those double quotes " don't look right in that sed command - paste the contents of /etc/init.d/cgminer...

Not a software coder, got it here, but please correct if it is so.

You won't need the double quote now since you're just goig to change --queue 4096 with quue 1. What iu are doing is replacing this part at the end of the command:

--queue 4096

with

--queue 1

To see the line you want to change in the file out can just run a grep to see it:

grep "queue" /etc/init.d/cgminer

The output will show you the line out will modify with the used command. It will also show you that queue only shows up on that line.

So, to be clear this is what you want to enter if you are editing the file from default. Including backing up the original file:

Code:
cp /etc/init.d/cgminer /etc/init.d/cgminer.bak <press Enter>
sed -i 's/--queue 4096/--queue 1/g' /etc/init.d/cgminer <press Enter>

Go to the web interface for the miner config and click save and apply. This will restart cgminer and it will reload the new config.

Quick question.   My Antminer on any clock setting seems to run at the expected hashrate for a few hours until eventually dropping off a few hours later.   The stock clock drops down to 410 gh/s after a little white and then the overclock speeds drop even further.   I do have 4 power connectors attached.   Any suggestions?
Freq 212.5 seems to be the most stable for these units. It'll give you around 430. Other people have cleaned out and reapplied the thermal paste, but I personally suspect its a power problem due to the DC/DC component not being robust enough to provide more power to the asics.

Bitmain, are you going to replace that component in later models?
336  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Biostar BTC-24GH Bitcoin Miner Review on: July 31, 2014, 05:32:43 PM
Very nice and detailed write-up. But honestly, I thought this was some kind of joke. The product is over a year late to market to be profitable in any way.
But now that Biostar as a renowned Mobo manufacturer got into the game, I am curious about the next generation. So, surprise us and keep up the good work!

and do not do preorder Grin

Amen to that. Do NOT follow these other ASIC manufacturers and go that business model. We hate it with a passion. For you all look into a smaller form factor and look into either it fitting into a PC case or designing a complete system case pcu etc. Most manufacturers in this industry are doing this.

We're a mostly good community willing to help. I'm glad to see you all branching out into this space. I love your motherboards and have several systems running on them Smiley

212.5 seems like the most stable freq for my set. He is negligible, temps are low as well 38C< on both.

how much gh you get on 212.5?
I couldn't make it go above 424, while some people report in mid 430ies.
428 now - we'll see tomorrow if that holds.

Anyone use UPS My Choice? Do shipments from Bitmain ever show up on My Choice? Need to release signature.

Yes, I use it and I like it a lot. You can authorize a release and specify the location you want them to leave it.
