If I understood correctly, the pool exploit that was just uncovered, only affects the honest miners that are on the same pool as a dishonest one. As the dishonest miner is exploiting the pool by boosting his share count, he is getting an unfair percentage of the overall reward distribution whenever a block is found on that pool.
The underlying point is that overall nethash should not be impacted at all, and neither is the total hashrate for any pool that was being exploited. It is only the internal distribution of shares within each pool that would be crooked, and penalizing the honest miners.
Can one of the pool ops confirm if my understanding is correct? Thanks!
You are correct.

I noticed that one of those nodes were connected to my own node, then I scanned it: Starting Nmap 6.00 ( http://nmap.org ) at 2015-03-13 01:48 CET Nmap scan report for 46.105.210.179 Host is up (0.065s latency). Not shown: 996 closed ports PORT STATE SERVICE 22/tcp open ssh 445/tcp filtered microsoft-ds 8080/tcp open http-proxy 8333/tcp open unknown Do you port scan every bitcoin node that connects to you ? Why would you do that, what were your real intentions ...

Instead of contacting the police they are offering a bounty of 720btc to whoever 'chases' the coins back. These scammers need to be reported to the police asap!
Where are they incorporated ?

@primer~: No. Burn diff correlates with the number of "effective burnt coins" (nEffectiveBurnCoins). That number takes into account the "burn decay" of every burnt coin. Every burnt coin after 1 year has an "effective burn" value of zero. So if nobody burns more coins from now, in one year nEffectiveBurnCoins will be zero.
Decay rate is too slow, there is no incentive to burn you donkey I'm out.

That's not a bug, it's a feature. If PoB diff goes too high, burners will have to accept lower income for some time, until an equilibrium is reached. So the system forces participants to act in a rational and not in an emotion-driven way (making serious calculations and not burning all coins in a kind of rat race), only this way miners can profit.
@masterofdisaster: I see a123's snapshot is from block 126xxx, so it probably will solve my problem. Will post if I have any issues.
PoB diff increases with the number of burnt coins. It does not decrease, ever.

Sheep everywhere.
PoB is 'broken by design', the number of burnt coins/PoB diff is so high it would take you years to mint 1000SLM if you were to burn them now.

Don't you people have anything better to do than waste time with this shitcoin ?

I don't condone or support the use of Monero for anything illicit or illegal in most countries... and, even if I did, I'm not sure I'd suggest using Monero for these purposes. The coin has not been well studied academically or even by multiple audit, so there may be numerous compromises in security that are yet to be discovered. Monero is intended to be used to afford privacy to transactions for the average consumer who doesn't want their neighbour peeking in on what they're purchasing, but for something where you have three letter agencies chasing you I'm really not sure.
Reassuring words from a lead dev.

The sooner the cryptonote's design of multisig whitepaper is released the better. Any progress? But there is someone working on it, right? if Everyone personally could help in any form, the work would move much quicker How many XMR out of 10k requested have you received so far ?

Are there any good business reasons for living in Estonia? And to keep my question on-topic, are there any good reasons why members of the Monero community might consider Estonia as a place to do business? e-residency. Almost no company tax. You do not need to physically be in Estonia. Read this https://e-estonia.com/e-residents/e-residency/ or contact me as I can help you in making it a reality (some XMR holders are already interested). Also, Estonia is predicted to have the lowers debt of all the European Union in some years (2% if my memory serves me well). Then; we all know what happens of predictions, but still. Estonia also has the world's first nationwide electric vehicle charging network and the world's first nationwide 4G-LTE network. In Estonia, you have the rare "concern" of having to check if your smartphone is fast enough for your network connection and not the other way around - [ur=https://www.emt.ee/en/era/internet-telefonisl]20 Gb of data at 300 Mbps for 30 euros a month[/url] would require no less than a cat6 LTE smartphone to take advantage of the network. The only downside is environmental: Estonia is also the world's biggest user of oil shale in percentage: 90% of its electricity comes from carbon-heavy oil shale. On the plus side, it means electricity is cheap. You've forgot to mention the climate. Burn all your summer clothes if you decide to move, you wont need them...

Network Hash Rate: 14.12 MH/sec A few days ago it was ~21. Price is killing miners.
This is good. Botnet is gone. Legit miners can accumulate coins now.

A large botnet has finally been pulled off monero. Hash Rate: 14.67 MH/sec Difficulty: 924886095
Seems like botnet click fraud is more profitable than mining monero..

Why can't people with less than -1 trust just be instantly banned?
Banned for what, pointing the obvious ? My trust rating has nothing to do with my posts on monero - i received neg reps from scammers on an alt that ceased to exist couple of days after launch...

Oh that's right you don't have one. You contribute nothing to the project other than FUD. (Want to buy lower do you?) Carry on.
Incompetent developers, i hope you did not make one cent off monero. Why ? Because you suck a**. I'd be willing to donate 5k xmr to a reputable team of 2-3 new devs to work on the gui and json... If you are in the monero-dev channel on IRC you will actually see that a lot of work is being done. Give me a proper reason to flame the devs? No action in monero-dev for some time now, what are you f.. talking about.. Oh, amonth ago onishin, fr pool owner, refused to update to the latest version because the code was so fucking broken.. Anyway, I mine at 600KH/s - at a huge loss. If i stop now, the network is almost completely at the mercy of the botnet herders.. Just have a look here to see current developments: https://github.com/monero-project/bitmonero/If you think i cant read code you're dumber than i thought. There is nothing at the github worth talking about. Everything is at a standstill...

Yes, losing 3% of the net hashrate will be a total loss for us all. Please, big man, take pity on us all and pity mine Monero. What can we do to appease you? Apart from my obviously sarcastic responses .. really .. I mean you're willing to put up 5k XMR for new devs .. why not knock it down to 4k and spend the other 1k to find them yourself?
Get lost troll, your account was made 3 days ago and has been used on this thread alone to give reps to the devs..
