Lol

Grats Jimbo, for having a screenshot of your post featured in a CNBC article about bearwhale.

What about whalebearwall: half man, half pig, half wall? Roll Eyes

Anyone else has problems with bitcoinwisdom.com? Lagging hard, can´t open new pages´...

Yeah, it's indirectly caused by the adds. Those stupid animations make the crappy Adobe Flash Player mad which in turn makes the browser laggy/crashy. It might be just stupidity (as Adobe Flash usually is) but could also be semi-malicious (a dumb maleware), I am not sure. This is not the first time in the Flash Player history, similar things happen from time to time (it's usually just bugs).

Looking forward to it...

It's like the entity behind this Moolah twitter account is the same who posted on Mt.Gox when they started to deal with malleability issues but also picked up some experience in the shit/scam-coin "developer" front in the mean time. (I am not suggesting anything because I would run out of money long before them. Tongue)

http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=e63_1404777061

Are these the guys behind moolah and therefore Mintpal?
I can't remember the last time I ever saw such a repugnant little reptile.

I need to stock up on more DRK but simply can't bare to give my business to this repulsive cretin.

This was priceless in this situation: "You will run out of money long before I do." (I know because I just robbed you.) Cheesy

I think I was the last one who used this link. I hit Replay and received a message that "Error loading stream. ID not found on this server". Does this mean LiveLeak would also run out of money long before Moolah? Tongue

With <1 BTC/hour average speed over the past few hours?!? Shocked They are really something else beyond crazy! Tongue

well mintpal's website doesn't even load anymore…. not good

If they work on it, it's possible that the site goes offline at one point. Why panicking ?

No panicking… Would you say that this is good? If not then i'm commenting on the truth…. Although I doubt people care about these distinctions at this point and right now...

It's nor good or bad at this point, it's normal. However, if moolah.io goes offline too that's another story ...  Wink

Sure… it isn't bad that the main Dark exchange has been offline for consecutive days… wow…. come on…. How can you even say that when you know that members of the community have DRK on the exchange and that they can't access their funds, their money? You can say it will probably work itself out, but neither good nor bad? That's about the extent of my lost time for tonight sorry….

People new to Darkcoin can buy some @ cryptsy. As for those who keep their DRK (or any coin) on an exchange ... What can I say ? Never do that.

Only if it wasn't way more easier to understand, accept and support this advice than actually comply with it. Smiley

Today it took ~90 minutes for me to deposit some BTC on Cryptsy (they require 4 comfirmations which shouldn't take more than 50 at max [40 nominal] minutes but I had to wait several blocks before somebody included my transaction in a block).

Soooo...when do we start assuming MintPal, or someone else, has lost or stolen all DRK held at MintPal and so we start driving DRK price up because there are a million fewer DRK all a sudden?

You mean: "When do we start to fear that somebody is about to dump huge amounts of several altcoins on other exchanges for BTC (and/or fiat directly in case of LTC and DRK) and continue to dump BTC for fiat?"
Well, I officially did (start to worry, not to believe that it is happening already, just worry...).
But I had a bad feeling about BTC prices and mintpal before it all started (I withdrawn everything from mintpal and Kraken, so I won't loose or panic-sell the coins).

Does anyone know when it will open Mintpal?

Right after Karpeles figures out what his cat did with the money, so he can re-open Mt.Gox, I am starting to guess.

I've just had a Eureka moment.
Mintpal [...]
Is this what's behind the BTC dump ?

My worst fear is that Mintpal is behind the BTC dump, but in a way that they are dumping all the user's coins for fiat (in short: there is no V2, there is no migration issue, there is no mintpal anymore).
I don't suggest to start panicking, I say this is my worts fear (I absolutely do not want this to happen, even though I fully emptied my mintpal balances a weak ago).

... CPU ... There's always a chance I'll solve a block.
Sure. Totally... :-p

This isn't about solving blocks.  Its about distributing the network hash rate.

EXACTLY !!!!

The blocks are just the bonus :-D

May be I am wrong about this, but I think it doesn't really matter. The "51% attack" is about having >50% of the network hash rate. A few (let alone virtual) CPU cores here and there don't really matter. They start to solve the block but effectively never finish it and thus they never actually have any effect on the blockchain. They do not mine any blocks, they are only trying to find the solution (and their work gets flushed when somebody else finds it before them).
Wild luck doesn't count here (unless you are hoping for the block reward as a lottery), because you would need a series of wild lucks in an externally defined time frame (solve several blocks in a row until the >50% entity looses it's adventage).
391  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] Darkcoin | First Anonymous Coin | Inventor of X11, DGW and Darksend | Instant TX on: October 02, 2014, 05:10:56 AM
Because Mintpal is down for 24 hours, can't access funds or anything.

Didn't know that - they seem to be implementing their v2.

Switch to spectating NEOS on Bittrex for a bit of action - somebody just bought 2358 NEOS (which corresponds to about 11,000 DRK by coin supply) for a snip 0.496 BTC. Not bad if you can get the liquidity.

Shouldn't that be the Dogue "dump" in that case ? People are exiting to USD out of BTC. If they were taking profits from Dogue they'd have to dump Dogue for BTC first.

Personally, I never call the "manipulation" card because to me it's just all supply and demand. But I watched the market just there and what happened was this:

 - it was drifting down and got to 376 on very low volume
 - some accelerated dumping started which got it down to 364
 - at that point, a massive sellwall appeared - about 196 BTC right on the bottom rung of the asks
 - at least 120 BTC of it got bought within a minute and the rest either disappeared or got bought
 - now the market's on its way back up with 1436 on demand, 586 on offer

In other words, someone was sitting there with $45,000 of off-orderbook budget who knew exactly what they wanted and got it.

Conclusion: institutional investors in stealth mode starting to stock up.

(P.S. The reason I suggested that isn't because they're looking for low prices - they're not - they're looking for liquidity. Bitcoin is very illiquid and grabbing yourself 120 BTC at any given time is going to cause a bit of a splash. To get the liquidity big buyers need you need to shake the tree a lot harder).

Interesting when you put these together.
I often tend to think that I see some "patterns" which could suggest that some form of manipulation is possibly in effect (I am not talking about the crypto gabler, fan cheerleader or coin troll kind of manipulation paranoia but huge spikes and "channel-alignment"), however I never see liquidity problems because that's just supply and demand right there (regardless if it's manipulated or not), for me liquidity (change) is a direct effect of supply and demand (change). No liquidity = the supply or demand just dried up at that price level, so the market needs to find the next correct price (be that either lower or higher). [Or alternatively neither sides care anymore, so the whole market is dead. But that's rare.]

I am not sure if this is really over for now or Mintpal indirectly decided to do some price fixing. The Cryptsy DRK market is hovering really close the price level of the last recorded mintpal trade. Funny. Cheesy

I am not surprised. Some people expected some undefined miracle to instantly happen after the opensourcing event which obviously haven't been the case, so some people are selling their DRK and try to buy "the next miracle of crypto" (or even get out of cryto for now because of the BTC price decay, or play it safe and just sit on their BTC). It's not even that big of a dump (at least not yet and I don't expect it will be) but the markets are very quiet these days, so those sells can easily drive the price down significantly. It might cause some panic which can generate a heavy dump but the generally quiet market doesn't support that either, so I expect a slow decay until something changes the overal attitude (into either directions).

Bad luck Ed.
And to think that I know of some people running hot masternodes on spot instances.  Lets hope they've got backups Cheesy

Are people still running hot masternodes? Why? Smiley

What's the issue with hot nodes?  As long as your password is strong enough and your firewall is configured right nobody is going to touch your coins...

At least until the next episode of the HearthBleed and Bash bugs. Cheesy

So what, as long as the wallet encryption holds ...

Last time I ran a "hot" masternode (there wasn't a remote option at the time anyway) I had to enter my wallet key for starting it (my wallet daemon had to sign messages with my 1000DRK private key).
That means your wallet key theoretically can be stolen.

However, I haven't try to run a masternode since months, so may be my information is outdated. It depends on what you mean by "hot masternode".

This wasn't the case during the first few beta versions. (I closed my masternode and moved the DRK back to the exchange circulation after that change occured. Not strictly becasue of but including that change.)

This is the third retest of sub-400 BTC since December's revaluation.

If it holds above 350, we might be in business. The BTC gods might just say "ok folks, - survived GOX, survived malleability, survived death by a thousand cuts from adverse press, survived the competition of a flotilla of altcoins, survived your third retest of sub-400 BTC - your good to go".

If it does, DRK will take off with it.

I never really cared about the fiat/BTC price during this year. I didn't plan to cash out for either ends (panic about crashing fiat price or greed to take the fiat profit) and I tried to keep the speculation at a minimum and in altcoin/bitcoin space instead of fiat/crypto, so I rarely checked the USD/BTC graphs.

But this time the USD/BTC chart feels like watching Titanic in 3D. Tongue
I keep hearing that "I have a reeeealy baaaaad feling about this." in the sub-consciousnesses of some characters, mixed with a generic movie trailer narration voice on the middle ground which explains how James Cameron and his friends are taking the money from the pockets of the stupid who believed the lie that a plain 2D movie can 'seriously actually' be converted into real 3D.
But that's just not possible. It's a simple fact: a 2D copy is a 2D copy, you need to shot from 2 angles for 3D. It's only a 3D post-process effect, not real 3D.
And back into the movie, it's not a love story either. It's a sinking ship where most of the characters die in vain and pain.
(And you also shouldn't buy Celine Dion's whole album just because that song was a good match for that movie scene. Cheesy)
So, everybody is a fool, all at the same time: those who are on a ship which is about to sink and those who are sitting in the movie theater in 3D glasses (and also those who think the woman who sings is a hot young woman).
It's only James Cameron and his friends who are milking the profit 'in 3D for realz'.

BTW, it's the fourth sub-400$ plunge in a 12-month period (after the 1000+ ATH), not the third.
397  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Neos reach $5 when V2 is released? on: September 28, 2014, 01:11:53 AM
I don't know. I bought some NEOS coins very close the ATH (~5k @26ksat) and I am waiting patiently.

have the killed the trading bots on Mintpal, or just killed Mintpal?
Captcha on access, no markets listed...

Last news is DDoS in effect for 9 hours... Hit them while upgrading to "MintPal v2.0"

Or so they say...

Got a few BTC on there waiting for some flash crash orders......

Haha. This is how I lost a considerable amount of money when Mt.Gox went down for good. I was happy when I bought the cheap coins which fell from the sky like rain but I could never even try withdrawing them.
So, this time I withdrew all my BTC (which waited there for a DRK price move) as fast as I could after the first sign that something is wrong.
399  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] Darkcoin | First Anonymous Coin | Inventor of X11, DGW and Darksend | Instant TX on: September 25, 2014, 08:34:14 PM
Another of my stupid questions:
All manuals on masternodes are saying how ports should be closed and how root account should not be used.. Personally I use root login with 15 chars long password and cold wallet set-up and did not bother closing the ports - can ANYTHING really happen to me?
My guess is 99.9% not but still would like to get a second opinion. Everyone is saying how root should not be used but I do not see the danger with the cold wallet & decent pw.

My dear drobek, we were all once newbies at everything, and will always be newbies at somethings. Once you understand something, you can often profit by going against the stream, but in an area where you are a newbie, statements like this are dangerous if not foolhardy: "Everyone is saying how root should not be used but I do not see the danger with the cold wallet & decent pw. "

Your cold wallet may be safe, but if your machine is compromised you may be subject to all sorts of future grief... not to mention the possible eventual loss of any funds/information that pass through or are produced by it. IMHO.

Thank you for your reply strix. While the statement indeed sounds naive I still wonder how anyone can guess/force a decent password. Have talked to a few people who were hacked and almost all of them had either simple pw or pw they reused on multiple occasions. At this point I think that a combo of decent PW and frequent apt-get update/upgrade may be adequate for cold wallet set up but still preferred to get a second opinion to running everything as a root.

I'm a sys/net admin with 15+ years of experience and I can tell you that the biggest threat is YOURSELF! Just make a typo as root and kiss your system goodbye! Happened to me twice, I have learned the hard way... You don't have to  Wink

Some examples (do not try this on your masternode):
rm -rf .*
mv / /dev/null
find -type f -mtime +30 -exec mv {} /dev/null \;
whatever > /dev/sda

Play it safe, log in as a regular user and use sudo!  Smiley

While I agree that logging in as a user is somewhat safer in general than logging in as root but I don't think this is the reason.
The ENTER is the key here. If you hit the ENTER without double (or triple) checking the whole line, you can just as easily end up with a devastating mistake whether you are logged in as root or as a user who is using sudo. These commands you listed as examples have the exact same effect when issued with sudo and you can just as easily make typos in lines starting sudo as you would without sudo but logged in as root. Sudo doesn't save you from typos and similar accidents when you think you are about to issue a command with root privileges anyway. When you think you need superuser rights you will automatically start the line with sudo and everything after that can still be a mistake (and have the same effect as issuing the same command as the real root).

So, I personally use an account without superuser rights (can't even use sudo) and I log in as root (in a different terminal) when I want to do something which requires root privileges (but I log out when I am done).
400  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] Darkcoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | Darksend Is Live! on: September 18, 2014, 09:38:56 PM
Sh*t !

We're passed 9 and seem to be heading for 1 ! This is nearly as interesting as Scottish independence.

But the volume is nothing compared to the time frame around the ATH.
For example, I generated ~50 of Cryptsy's ~300 BTC/day volume today by jumping in and out a few times, so I call that 300 completely redundant (I guess I wasn't alone with this behaviour).
I didn't feel like staying in DRK because I didn't see the volume validating the price (and thus I expected a quick minicrash which could have been a nice spot to go in for a longer term).
Right now... I have no idea what to do before going to sleep. Buying right now and leaving it alone for 8+ hours would be an emotion based act, not a nice trade. But then again, it might be up by another 50% by the time I wake up. Cheesy

I don't find the scottish voting exciting because I guess they fixed it to NO.
