381  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Scrypt Asics. Are you planning your exit strategy from GPU mining? on: January 07, 2014, 01:20:08 AM
You say that like there aren't already scrypt ASIC's running throughout the world or people with GPU farms pulling 100+ mh/s.

The release of this technology is inevitable but it's not like GPU mining will be pointless once they are.

How many people mine Bitcoin with GPUs currently?

They are putting out an asic miner that is cheaper than building a GPU rig. 5mh/s for $2,000 vs 2x 2.5mh/s rigs for $3,000
Also they claim the 5mh/s scrypt asic only consumes 100w vs 5mh/s GPU miner consuming 1200-1300w.

We have been down this road with bitcoin asics. History is repeating itself except there isn't a big GPU only coin to fall back to when all the scrypt coins are not profitable to mine with GPUs anymore.

If anyone has any suggestions while I'm under the hood now is the time to let me know. lol

So changing the port broke blockchain compatibility. Not hard to fix, even if I have to generate a new genesis block.
It just might take me a few hours instead of 10 minutes.  Cheesy

First I'm removing checkpoints, if that doesn't work I will just delete the old blockchain and start it over.
And again if that doesn't work I will go back and create a new genesis block.

I'm a troubleshooting master.

Your post shows "424242" as the p2p port, but that's not a valid port number.  What will the actual p2p port number be?

That is what it is set at and the network works. I'm guessing your router doesnt go that high for forwarded ports?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_(computer_networking)#Technical_details
Quote
A port number is a 16-bit unsigned integer, thus ranging from 1 to 65535 (port number 0 is reserved and can't be used).

I may not know Crypto that well, but I know TCP/IP.

Ok well, looks like I will have to change it. How about 24242

I will have to upload new source/binaries as the old ones will no longer work when I'm done. But we wont see any port conflicts.

Currently compiling/testing, I will upload the new source/binaries with a different password when I'm done so there wont be anyone using the wrong client.

What im reading online says that "you should only use up to 49151, as from 49152 up to 65535 are reserved for Ephemeral ports"

So I might have to change it. lol

Will this coin start with low diff or high diff?

It will start with low difficulty but with no block reward for the first 240 blocks so that the difficulty can ramp up before the blocks start giving a reward.

I may change the first 240 blocks back to 0.000001 so that you know everything is set up properly when mining.

I also want let you guys know that the first SUPERBLOCK is block 420. Smiley I would have made the first one 42 but that is a low/0 reward block.
387  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Scrypt Asics. Are you planning your exit strategy from GPU mining? on: January 06, 2014, 09:11:42 PM
So with the future release of Alpha Technologies Scrypt Asics, GPU mining is going to be going the way of the Dodo.

Who has an exit plan in place to liquidate their GPU miners and either invest in BTC or buy Scrypt Asics?
388  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Alt’s will be completely diluted by shitcoins on: January 06, 2014, 09:00:48 PM
On the positive side...there is virtually no Alt Coins threatening LTC status as the number 2 coin after Bitcoin.

If you have invested in Litecoin, you are certainly secure from the scam coin competition below.

What advantage has litecoin over bitcoin now that the first scrypt asics are out? Nothing important.
Litecoin has to struggle to keep 2nd, not 2014, but maybe 2015-2016.

The scrypt asics are not scheduled to be shipped until the 2nd or 3rd quarter of 2014. If they are anything like BFL we wont see a scrypt asic for atleast a year. If anyone here has learned anything from BFL, do not preorder the device by paying Bitcoins as you would make more just sitting on the bitcoins and waiting on the price to go up.

I'm interested in seeing how the scrypt asics will play out on some of the scrypt altcoins.

Look who put the coin generator out.. BTC devs Wink This is a very offensive move to discredit any and all alternatives.

Only the ones who don't think outside of the box.

Which is really good.
This means you will have to have some sort of innovation with your coin or it wont even get noticed.

This is how we evolve the crypto scene.

My entry for the logo design competition.

What do you mean "there isn't a logo design competition"?

So be it. Let the Logo design competition commence.
0.00042(42) to the winner. (Thats 10 blocks, or 1 SUPERBLOCK)

Btw, I like your logo. ^^

To prevent forking with the initial rush I mined 35 blocks and set checkpoints. This should help with orphans.

I also extended the 0 block reward to 240 blocks to help make up for the 35 checkpoint blocks and give the network a little more time to cool before the block rewards start.

I'm really looking forward on this.

Any tried to quess the password? Wink

You can try to guess the password but its highly unlikely that you will guess it.

I may have used multiple words, numbers, and characters. Its caps sensitive too, so GL with that.

get some pools running before lunch

I have already been contacted by one pool owner who said he will put a pool up.

I just added links for the windows Qt and the source. They are both in password protected Rars.

I will release the password at launch.

not found windows wallet download

I'm not putting the windows wallet up until launch. I may put out a password protected rar with it inside before launch and then give the password at launch tho. Smiley

Currently setting checkpoints.

Now with SUPERBLOCKS
Certain blocks will give 10x normal block reward

Countdown timer doesn't work...

Its not a live timer, please refresh the page.

lol, 0.000001 block reward...
even with 0.0000001 transaction fee, people will mine for pool owners and exchanges...
i'll pass this one...

Is 0.000001 the lowest fee possible? If so then yeah...

I changed it to 0 block reward for the first 120 blocks and then 0.000042 coins for every block thereafter.
The coin supply will last for a year with no block halving.
So the block reward is
0.00004200
Tx fees
0.00000001

Which means tx fee is about 0.095% of a whole block

To put that in perspective, B4 it was changed, Litecoins tx fee was 0.04% of the block reward.

So yea it is a little high, but there will be no more block reward after a year so high Tx fees are a must to keep the network going.

Would like to mine in pool.
Solo mining seems to be pain

Mining just 4fun - 20 KH/s  Roll Eyes

I have been contacted by one person already about opening a pool.

It would be nice if there were multiple pools at launch. If anyone reading this has the ability to set up a pool please contact me.
