I'm guessing there still isn't a solution to the lame 8 GPU limit with AMD drivers? I've read through a few of the pages and it sounds like short of AMD adjusting the limits in the drivers you'll be stuck at 8 cores.
Yeah, but I'm going to attempt to experiment with virtualization and things to see what I can do.

I spy an unpopulated LCD header Smiley
The existing Rev2 has this too.

Wonder if the mystery miner got his botnet by infecting exiting rigs, which is why the network hashrate hasn't been going up.... dun dun dun </tinfoil>

DeathAndTaxes, DiabloD3, thank you for your suggestion of ArctiClean for cleaning off the thermal paste from my GPUs. This stuff is awesome.

ArctiClean is citrus based, and this makes it really pleasant to work with as opposed to harsh chemicals and/or alcohol. It comes in a bottle with a metered drip tip that lets out a drop at a time, and the $7 I spent on it is going to last forever. Cheap as hell for what you get. You drip on a few drops of the first cleaner part, and the existing thermal paste dissolves instantly, just waiting for you to wipe it up with a soft lint-free cloth. On some of my GPUs, it took 2 applications to completely clean it. Then, drop on a drop of the second part to finish the job, and admire the mirror finish on the GPU die!

The thermal paste that I chose (Tuniq TX-4) comes with a plastic scraper to spread the stuff around real thin, but it ends up being somewhat uneven anyway. I decided that having the paste so thin that I could read the lettering on the die through it was probably not enough, and ended up using an even layer about as thick as some heavy paper. I haven't tried it yet, but it looks far better than Arctic Silver that I used on some other GPUs.

Finally, the project is sort of on hold at the moment until Spotswood finishes my custom frame - it should be here in a few weeks though. If anyone needs something custom, talk to him - he can make whatever you want. The best part about it is that he whips up the design in CAD, and will discuss exactly what is needed as part of the design phase first, while sending you renders of what it will look like as the design goes on. The final frame should look something like this:

That includes a tray to fit the custom hole pattern on this backplane. The PSUs will go on top, and the side sections are removable. It is really wide for testing with a large number of GPUs, but I eventually hope to compress this project into a 7-8U 19" rack formfactor. The fans are Delta PFC1212DE-PWM 120mm models with 252 CFM airflow.

As usual, all the project costs are in the second post, and I will keep that updated. I also keep adding to the imgur album, available here: http://imgur.com/a/0oist

3925  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: hashrate.. abc pool.. trouble on: March 31, 2012, 06:26:03 PM
I mine with ATI RADEON 5xxx and 6xxx and use the last version of guiminer, for ABC pool. My issue is that i have 5.3 Ghash of power and the pool always shows me, at the top, 4.7. I don't know why this is happening, if you can help me.
Pool hash rate indicators cannot be considered accurate. If you are worried about it, try another pool.
3926  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A bit of nostalgia... How did you get your first Bitcoin? on: March 31, 2012, 04:55:24 PM
Sorry for being so unoriginal. The "world ugliest bitcoin minig rig" (pictured on the left) was solving a few blocks a day back then.
Do you have a larger picture of that somewhere?

I like the sound of this.

Mainly the danger of bridging different circuits
Which could be done with wire just as easily if you don't pay attention.

A piece of wire is shielded with the exceptions of the spliced ends jammed into the connector.  A paperclip is an unprotected live wire that is going to make for some exciting times if you touch/bump it off anything metallic that you care about.
The paperclip is at ground (neutral) potential, not hot, so if it bumps a metal case or the PSU frame there will be no problem. The paperclip is jumpering the power on wire to ground, which activates the PSU.

3929  Economy / Services / Re: GPUMAX | The Bitcoin Mining Marketplace on: March 31, 2012, 04:20:21 PM
Let it go....who cares about 0.5% more stales having 150% more BTC Smiley

While its leasing, I dont think anyone cares, not at current prices anyway.

But if it stops for prolonged periods of time, as it has for the past weeks, it would be nice to have an API so you can switch your miner to your default pool when there is nothing to sell at gpumax, without having to use the passthrough, and switch back to gpumax when its running leased shares.

AFAICS, thats win-win for everyone, since GPUmax doesnt make any money on passing through, it would even reduces the load on their machines somewhat, and it decreases the stales for the miner on his default pool. All thats needed is a public API or better yet, some longpolling mechanism to inform you when its time to go back to GPUmax.
Good idea - wonder if it's something that could be integrated with cgminer.

Don't forget that eldentyrell was able to squeeze 3 unrolled cores onto a 150k part

3 unrolled cores? afaik 3 cores with 0.5hash per cycle
Yes, that's what I meant, but it's better than 2 cores with 0.5 hash per cycle.
3931  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Cyclone V now shipping! on: March 31, 2012, 01:46:23 PM
makomk achieved 27.7MH/s from CycloneIV 22k part. My quess is that is 220MHz core rolled 8 times. Fully unrolled core fits to 75k Cyclone. That gives two cores on 150k part and propably at 300MHz (28nm vs. 60nm), so 600MH/s may be possible...
Don't forget that eldentyrell was able to squeeze 3 unrolled cores onto a 150k part, although currently not getting a huge difference in speed (might later though, after some optimizations). Is there a 200k LUT part available? Might be able to fit 4 cores on it for 2 bitcoin hashing stages, instead of an odd 1.5 stages.

Ignore button. As I apply this more and more, the forum improves!
Wow it sure does! Now I can ignore all your bullshit about turning Bitcoin into Shitcoin, and the forum is now a marginally quieter place.

3933  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: March 31, 2012, 01:11:59 PM
lol. that was not intended.

try

Code:
#> convert miner_image.png -flip miner_image.png

Then the words will be backwards.
3934  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Wonder who this solominer is? 88.6.216.9 on: March 31, 2012, 01:07:19 PM
True, my memory isn't the best at times. It should however be possible to require that all blocks include more than one transaction as per one of the BIP proposals however then we are starting to move into the kind of regulation territory that I believe could quickly become detrimental to the project as a whole (and if this isn't workable with the current code feel free to spank me, I might even enjoy it  Kiss), so this needs handling with extreme care.
This has been discussed ad nausaeum prior in this thread. The short answer is, if we require more than 1 tx, what is to stop the miner from sending coins to himself, which creates enough tx to make the block valid? The answer is nothing will stop such blocks. Read a few earlier posts for detailed discussion of your exact proposal.
3935  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Version 0.6.0 released on: March 31, 2012, 01:00:28 PM
Initial network synchronization should be much faster
(one or two hours on a typical machine instead of ten or more
hours).

Here's something I've been wondering for awhile now, but only now remember when I'm actually on the forums...

Would it make sense to include a version for new adopters to download which includes an up-to-date (at time of release) blkindex file rather than a blank blkindex file so that they are nearly synced at installation?
The new version downloads the blocks much faster now, but if that is still too slow you can download a nightly here: http://eu1.bitcoincharts.com/blockchain/

I get paid $70 a day to ride a waxing machine around the store in addition to sweeping floors. Yawn. Combining this funding with my Bitcoinica speculation -- life is looking far too easy.

Anyways, yeah, that's the final nail in the coffin of "Atlas has no life experience" and "is a lazy, spoiled brat".

I still have yet to gain full understanding of the unemployed when there are mentally disabled people here running the photo lab.

All I have to say is...

Print this out and put it in a safe. Come back in 5 years, and see what you think of it. Rinse and repeat in 10 years.

That is all.

You expect me to have children. Too late, a vasectomy is on its way.  I will not compromise on financial sustainability a.k.a relying on long-term savings in hard assets and not on a fiat-based, corruptible retirement plan.

Life is easy if you're not a willfully ignorant, wasteful consumerist.

Also, no children.
I mentioned nothing whatsoever about children. I don't know where you pulled that from, your ass maybe?

I'd prefer the magazine be delayed and look good than to see some P.O.S. 2nd-rate Bitcoin magazine be rushed through production
