Currently streaming porn at Max quality, 640x320 8fps let me know how it looks.
I guess no one liked cartoons, oh well. Not one bitcent after streaming almost 120 episodes.
3183  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: P2pool help? on: May 03, 2012, 05:36:19 PM
Well, it doesn't daemonize by default, so you would need to either run it in a screen, run it as a service, or run it with an "&" at the end, like so:
Code:
./bitcoind &
Then, you can send it commands by calling the executable again, like so:
Code:
./bitcoind getinfo

Yeah, the old "ring up the company and complain of some nonexistent problem with a product you don't own" scam.

Yes, I will try that on one my units shortly. I'll have to snip the leads to the bottom fan, as the same power connector feeds both top and bottom fans and there doesn't seem to be an easy way to detach power from the bottom fan independently.

Unfortunate; the Rev2 units had 2 independently powered fans (and there are 2 fan headers on the PCB, even the Rev3 ones) so they were easy to swap out. The Rev3 units seem to power both fans from the same cable which makes things easier for assembly, but uglier for maintenance.
I don't know what brand of fans your unit has, but the ones in mine have a detachable connector at the motor hub as well as at the plug end.

I'm not questioning your judgment guys, but I am not seeing it. I looked at the first couple of pages of his recent posts. They were not outrageous or anything? What did he do?
How about this one:

^^ That was a straight up lie.

Some of the more interesting ones seem to have disappeared recently.

There's a DDoS in progress.  The network provider won't allow any new connections to the site but those that use miners that use keep-alive connections are still able to mine until the connection closes.

You don't happen to be on Rackspace do you? A bunch of our services went down for a few minutes until they nulled the offending IP.
3191  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins first funded horse (via GLBSE) first race! on: May 03, 2012, 01:19:14 AM
If it was computer terminology it would be a daemon and not a deamon, especially because deamon isn't even widely used as word. It should be demon instead.
That misspelling was a one-off. It's correct on the race card, GLBSE, etc.

Cost/Mhs the best is BFL.

Yes, and you will get your BFL 3 months after you order it, and it isn't usable with p2pool.

Why not? Is it a software or a hardware issue?
Firmware and software - but BFL has stated that they are working on modifications to the firmware so that it can support P2Pool, and then the associated software would need to be changed to support it.

So do all BFL products use proprietary software and hardware? As in, they will not work with 3rd party miner software?
No, the API is open, and cgminer and ufasoft's miner both work with it (and others too, possibly). They are developing their own software, but it hasn't been released yet.
The hardware and firmware are not open though.

3195  Other / Off-topic / Re: Can anyone tell me what chip is used in BFL single? on: May 02, 2012, 11:59:48 PM
As discussed, they are almost certainly using a cheap source of old-gen 65nm FPGAs: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=66314.msg769355#msg769355

Assuming this topic is correct, does anyone happen to have a source of MTBF/MTTF/FIT data for those chips?

It's rough trying to factor cost of replacement into operating costs when you have zero data on how often they'll need replaced Tongue
That quote is a bit out of date. Due to recent comments by BFL, it appears to be more likely that they have actually produced something custom, possibly a specialized programmable ASIC (I.E., an FPGA of their own). It is becoming less likely that is is actually an off-the-shelf product.
So it's looking less likely that we'll actually get time-to-failure data on the chips unless BFL does the testing themselves and released numbers.
As far as we know, the chips aren't even being binned, they just assemble them, see if they meet the specs, and ship. That's would be my assumption after hearing reports of some with units that throttle when others do not, in the same environment. Anyways, I have high hopes for the larger devices.
3196  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: (30GH/s) Mining at TripleMining, wanting to switch to Deepbit - Should I? on: May 02, 2012, 11:44:06 PM
The advantage you gain is uptime, but the disadvantages are fees and pool hoppers. If you mine PPS, there is a fee of 10%, and if you mine Proportional there is a fee of 3% and you will lose out to hoppers.
3197  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: FPGA -- DIY @ Low Cost on: May 02, 2012, 11:32:33 PM
Reflow soldering without the right components is very easy to mess up and get wrong. I don't think there would be many users that would be successful with a kit. I don't think it would be possible to create a board that isn't reflow soldered.

Thanks for your thoughts.

For DIY, what would you suggest to accommodate this problem? A premounted FPGA chip on a daughter board? Akin to one RPH seemed to use here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=44891.0

BTW: RPH seemed to pull off something like that at his home: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=44891.msg536983#msg536983

Thoughts?
On the usual boards, many other components are SMT as well, and I have no idea whether they could be redesigned with through-hole parts. My guess is that they probably could, and the daughterboard idea might work, but I don't know how well it would work in practice.

Yeah the DNS has issues. From some servers/locations the lookup works, but from others it doesn't.

3200  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 51%! who is this minner? on: May 02, 2012, 08:43:35 PM
I also don't ever recall seeing ABC pool (~800 G/hash) on there.
ABC is a pool-hopping proxy, it doesn't mine blocks itself.
They've said that they do mine their own blocks when there aren't any pools to hop, so if there aren't very many prop pools left, then they could be making their own blocks.
