I have thought about putting up a satellite for a long time but never had the funds. With today's tech it could be done very cheaply. I'm thinking that the main computer could even be a raspberry pi or beaglebone. It would need a long range transmitter, it could be possible to use laser communications but hitting a one pound object in low earth orbit would be like shooting a flea off a dogs back, and the dog just so happens to be running at 1,000 mph
I could use the current tech used in RC airplanes. With a directional antenna they are able to transmit a digital signal 50miles or more. the minimum distance of communication for low earth orbit is about 100miles. With the right antenna and amplifier it might be possible. This would make it very cheap to build.
Certainly a unique and very boldly idea. But I don't have the imagination to come up with ideas how that would function as anything else than a "space billboard" what people can't even see with naked eyes. Would it be possible to use it as an "ultimate space backup" of the blockchain (yes, I am trolling with these "space thingies" , but I am serious with the question though ). I must have added it after you quoted. The idea would be to make it a seednode and have it mine on its little ARM cpu. This way if the world ended 42 would live on.

The coins are hard to mine as is. Halving the block rewards after six months would probably be a good idea and drive up the price if a lot more demand exists for the coin by then. Having more 42 Coin for distribution for buying and selling would help. Maybe we could put together a pool and do a publicity stunt like Dogecoin did by funding something. Maybe a science project of some sort (42 is the answer). We could donate to Mars One and say "42 is the answer to everything on Mars." Just some ideas.
I have been thinking about this. If we did help fund something it would need to be unique. Although, even funding something is copying off of the latest dogecoin stunt. lol It isn't about the funding; It is showcasing the coin as a means of payment. Bitcoin did it with pizzas. Doge did it with much love and donations. It costs about $10,000 to put a 1 pound object into space. We could put up a micro satellite for around $20,000 dev budget and $10,000 to put it in space. Woah. Then 42 Coin could really go to the moon! I have thought about putting up a satellite for a long time but never had the funds. With today's tech it could be done very cheaply. If the world comes to an end. 42 will still be there.

Of course, criticism is welcome for 42Coin. If criticisms can be positively addressed then that can help to build confidence in this coin.
We are currently working to improve 42 in a few ways. One of which should help with the multipool issue. We are working with a few devs from other coins to get this accomplished properly. If anyone has denomination additions they would like to see added let me know and I will set up a vote to add them to the Qt eg. adding Dent to the drop down box in the send tab. We are also contemplating adding in block halving after 6 months, I would like to know what the community has to say about it. This would extend the block reward past the initial year. It might be a good idea to get some coins in circulation first before any halving occurs. But what do I know? I'm just an investor. The time-frame is up for discussion. But by 6 months we should have nearly 21 coins in existence. By adding in block halving every 6 months the final 21 coins would take somewhere around another year to a year and a half to be mined (I haven't done the proper math on it yet. )

I recommend reading from the beginning of this thread to grasp and come to understand why 42 Coin had a fair launch and wonderful developers. Often when I go into a new coin thread I feel like the developers just drop the coin and announce "Okay guys coin is ready to be mined!" without having a count down. Oh, I did! Did you read that single post of mine before sending me to read dozens of pages? Do you think that (for example) DOGE's apparent (temporal ?) success depended on the developer's mathematical/programmer/economical genius and continuous hard work? Or was it simply a lucky accident that DOGE gave the people what they wanted and they seem to enjoy it (for the moment ?) even if the whole coin started as a cheap joke and on top of that, it still has a major bug (even if they later declare that as a feature ?). Again, don't get me wrong. I am way more skeptic about DOGEs long term sustainability or even CAT's reborn (that counter is really ticking from 9) than 42's future. I am just trying to point it out that it's not like the coin developer can shape the will of the people through a few lines in a C++ code. And I think this also means that a developer who is convinced that he can actually do that, proves himself to be delusional. Of course, developers can and should try to improve things. But after that, they can only hope. They can guarantee nothing! (Not even that it won't be worse. Only the time will tell.) +1 There is only so much that Maco and I can do. We can have fun contests, blast social media, help people start services that accept 42, ect. But when it comes down to it, we can only show you the door. You're the ones that have to walk through it. (To paraphrase The Matrix) Hendo, I am looking to partner with a business that will be able to distribute and sell 42Coin glow sticks and LED glow necklesses. Stuff used for partying and celebrating. I am in talks for him to accept 42 Coin as a form of payment. It would be wonderful if we could eventually have your blessing and support. I love the idea. Get your party on with 42 coin.

This seems like a small turn out for free pizza. Do cryptocoin enthusiasts not enjoy pizza? I know I do. This contest is open to everyone, in any country, the only limitation on location is the pizza.

I am still looking for an answer to my original question; however, gold itself is not stable enough to be a good currency. In the past year I believe gold's inflation rate is 25% while its deflation rate over the past 5 years is 9% per year. This is to say that gold is too volatile to act as a viably currency. Generally accepted economics today aims for an inflation rate of between 1 and 3 percent per year in order to keep away volatility, hyperinflation, and deflation.
Gold isn't stable, thus it is difficult to see how a Bitcoin market cap that is similar to a gold market cap would cause Bitcoin to have a stable price.
I think the fluctuation comes from the low market cap. If that is the case, Bitcoin just needs to reach a higher market cap. http://www.federalreserve.gov/faqs/currency_12773.htmTotal USD in circulation is $1.23 trillion Once BTC reaches near that it should stabilize. The way I see it BTC is still an infant. Once it grows up some more it will be alot more stable. Right now it just takes some balls and a willingness to assume risk to accept bitcoin as a payment method. Drop a bowling ball in a pool and it will make a wave and ripples all the way to the sides of the pool. Drop a bowling ball in the ocean...

I would love to see a P2P currency work, but I have serious doubts about current-day P2P currencies.
The most important thing any currency needs is (at the very least) day-to-day stability of value, and no P2P currency that I know about has that yet.
The best way to create day-to-day stability would be to peg the value of the currency to a big currency or a basket of currencies, which is what most developing and/or small countries do--at least until the currency is stable enough to be allowed to float.
I don't think it would be technically simple to create a P2P currency that works that way.
That being said, does anyone know of a P2P currency that pegs its value right now?
If the market cap of Bitcoin was near that of Gold, It would be very stable. http://www.numbersleuth.org/worlds-gold/It will happen eventually. We are seeing mass adoption right now.

Good idea to promote 42coin but can we make the video in our first language ? (french here)
omg cryptsy at 250, hurry up everybody, let's buy !
If you can add subtitles that should be ok. Maco and I are the ones judging the videos so It would be a good idea to make sure that we can understand the video. By all means do it in your first language tho. This is all to help promote 42 and get the word out and what better way than direct the video to other people who speak your language. You could also make 2 versions of your video, but that is up to you. If you make 2 versions we will judge the one done in English. If you post a video in your native language please add subtitles so that Maco and I can understand the video. I speak a little french/spanish/german, but only enough to ask where the bathroom is. lol
