401  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S19a Pro 110 TH dosent work on: March 02, 2023, 05:44:37 PM
So what happens when you flash for example 42601 to 42603 or vice versa? Nothing? What about 42621 with 42631 or 42701 with 42801?

In the past, i have seen some shady "repairs" where because they had all 3 eeproms corrupted they pick some random one and flash it in all three, see it work with factory fw and call it a day... I guess the least issue is being underclocked/overclocked as you say, but is there really nothing else?
402  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: On Ordinals: Where do you stand? on: March 02, 2023, 05:21:09 PM
I started a new 1 sat/b actual Bitcoin transaction yesterday. Lets see how many days the current spam wave will make me wait... Remember, it used to be 2~12 hours before Ordinals and friends invaded.
403  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: "Bitcoin’s Future Hinges on Donations, and That’s Got People Worried" on: February 28, 2023, 03:19:30 PM
Only donations!? Oh no! Better not tell these "worried people" about Wikipedia. They only survive on donations too! Or Linux. Or Tor. Or Firefox. Or LibreOffice. Or GIMP. Or VLC. Or the hundreds of thousands of pieces of FOSS used around the world every day.

Too bad WIkipedia and Firefox drank the Ripple lobbying FUD and decided to ban bitcoin donations "because it hurts the environment"...
404  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are you running your BTC wallet on Linux? Why? on: February 28, 2023, 02:17:44 PM
Usually the reasons why things break on Linux suddenly are:

1. Your drivers are the ones breaking (very susceptible culprit)
2. You're not using an LTS distro - particularly true if you're running Arch or Gentoo.
3. Not trying to blame the user here, but maybe you compiled something from source but did not follow the instructions correctly so the program you just compiled is not running as you expected.

Maybe Arch and the binary rolling distros, not Gentoo. There is nothing more rock solid than a distro that compiles its packages with the same libraries that are actually present in the system. How often do you update? When you want. I have left Gentoo installs without updating half a year or a year, it still works rock solid, unlike binary distros including LTS with packages from 3 years ago...

Arch has a rule you cannot break: Upgrade all the system, not a single package. This is not a problem with Gentoo, because you will compile it against whatever you really have. Instability comes from downloading binaries that were compiled against slightly different libraries. A bit of workaround is shipping those libraries with the binary, windows style, which is why snap and others are becoming popular in some distros.

The other reason is bloat and stuff you don't need. With Gentoo you can customize your compiles, and remove things you will never use resulting in a leaner and more stable experience. It is not for newbies, but the end result is far more stable than anything else i have ever seen or used. Still for a production server something like Debian Stable or Ubuntu LTS is ok, especially when you have several to manage.

If you just want to use a system without getting your money stolen, just run something like Lubuntu, Linux lite, Pop_OS!, Linux Mint, etc. Its not perfection but its far better than windows. You still need to use "common" sense like using proper passwords, keeping security updates, etc.

Move your money related activities to Linux or BSD, preferably to a separate PC.

Good news for NFT lovers, bad news for NFT haters. Yuga Labs, the creator of Bored Apes Yacht Club and who also owns the rights for other bluechip NFTs has launched Twelvefold NFT collection in the bitcoin blockchain. I am not quite certain when an exchange for NFTs similar to opensea.io will be created for bitcoin NFTs, however, I am quite certain Twelvefold will by very popular for the NFTspace.

Of course like i was saying, this is only the beginning. There is a spam attack going on, some with commercial incentive, and some people want to pretend its nothing.

Its not about NFTs, its about spam. Anything that is not Bitcoin transactions is spam and this spam is going to grow if left unchecked, like some people want. Who benefits from the destruction of Bitcoin?
406  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S9 power cord on: February 27, 2023, 06:51:05 PM
The German cable works fine with 240V or the equivalent used in computer servers, photocopiers, etc.

Dropping to 120V will use twice the amps. By default the S9 cannot be run safely like this since 1350W is +11 amps unlike +6 when using 230V. So you would need to either disconnect 1 hashboard or switch to a firmware that lets you exactly control the amounts of watts used, about 900W is safe at 120V (8A).
407  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S19a Pro 110 TH dosent work on: February 27, 2023, 06:39:59 PM
thierry4wd some miners have been seen from factory with mixed hashboards, don't always rely on this method. I have no idea what using the wrong eeprom info could cause...

BitMaxz endusers are not going to do backups of their eeproms unfortunately... That is why bosminer never touches them.
408  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: T19 Online Not Hashing on: February 27, 2023, 06:31:49 PM
Try unplugging power for half hour after you have flashed factory firmware.
409  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Unable to flash brainOs on an asic S17 pro on: February 27, 2023, 05:39:01 PM
You can't install to nand with the latest version, you need the older version and then upgrade. Or just always run it from SD. Check the first post in this thread to get the right version (x17).

PS: The miner MUST have factory firmware. Beware that running others may permanently cause damage.
410  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Is it worth buying this broken used Antminer S17 Pro? on: February 27, 2023, 05:26:02 PM
1) What are the chances that this miner can be repaired?

90% if a Profesional with the right tools and spare parts fixes it, slim to nothing if a regular person like myself does.

Basically: Desolder all, resolder all and replace the damaged components, perhaps do the mod that uses large heatsinks with screws, or go with immersion.

Cost effective? Probably not, but some people did this full refurbish in the past.
411  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Suck or blow when adding a large external fan to a miner? on: February 27, 2023, 05:02:02 PM
If the fan fails its basically the same as when one (or more) of the small fans fail. The fw should stop hashing when it overheats, in Braiins OS controlled by the Dangerous value, which you can lower even more.
412  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Suck or blow when adding a large external fan to a miner? on: February 27, 2023, 04:38:27 PM
The theory is that sucking is better because you don't add the heat of the fan itself. It also tends to attract more dust because its negative pressure for the miner.

So i guess it depends in your actual setup. If its well filtered with noise insulated ducts that reach the outside on both ends, i would go with suck. But if its something like no inlet duct or scooping air from the inside, maybe blow is better.

Obligatory reference:

With the likes of the infinity 8" you don't need any other fans at all. 800cfm is twice the required volume so it should be fine at 50% or less.

PS: I don't like leaving the small fans because they can be forced to generate electricity by the external fan.

419  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S19a Pro 110 TH dosent work on: February 23, 2023, 01:13:07 PM
Messing with the eeproms is a recipe for disaster. It is bad enough with those firmware mods doing it...

Especially since you don't know how many sub-variants are really out there. This is no longer S17 walk in the park, don't rewrite eeproms ever, and stay away from shady fw that never deals with the hardware directly since all they do is leech on the work already done at factory...
420  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Braiins OS+ support thread on: February 20, 2023, 08:26:33 PM
What people also build is a device that disconnects the fan for a few seconds via a relay. It switches to a dummy fan adaptor for some seconds after start and then switches back to the fan, when the miner is up and running. Sadly this is not commercially available as far as I know.

Here you can find some more tips: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5436532.msg61644308#msg61644308

Hmm you can do that without the dummy with Braiins OS. Just enable immersion mode.

Also remember to edit your first post, miner doesn't stop hashing at Hot, it does at Dangerous.
