4021  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GPU mining is dead. Yeah, sure thing! on: May 10, 2021, 05:18:08 AM
this is not a financial advice.

but the previous cycle showed that you can still ROI 1 year from the peak of the bull run (more like the first year of bear market). of course it depends on "your circumstances/situation".

Well if I recall when ETH peaked in Jan 2018, it was still profitable mining it all the way until Nov 2018, but from there on, unless you got very cheap power it just wasn't worth it. It would of been better to buy it instead of mining it. So it was almost a year ~10 months.

With 2014 peak however it was different. Everything topped in Nov 2013 however the profits quickly were evaporating especially if you were mining with GPUs. I remember with a R9 280X, you made like $10/day in Jan 2014, then $5/day in Feb, $2.50,$1.25,etc,etc. It got quickly unprofitable sometime in May-June. Mostly due to the fact that each GPU used like 300 Watts instead of 100 Watts like today.
4022  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Bitcoin Gold +40% !! on: May 09, 2021, 04:09:43 AM
The reason why Bitcoin Gold and Diamond are pumping is because they are the old fork coins off Bitcoin back in 2017. First Bitcoin Cash was pumping and they are pretty much following the trend. People are buying similar type of coins hoping for a quick 50% move.

Sure the developement is gone however it doesn't matter. Basically a repeat of 2018 where every single alt coin listed on Poloniex was pumping whether it had active developement of not. I am not liking this price action at all because this brings back memories of 2018. Where people went from BTC to ETH then to alts and then to tether and a 3 year long bear market started.
4023  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Do you think if DOGE will pump like this if it was not listed in Binance? on: May 09, 2021, 04:05:12 AM
Right now Elon has more of an effect on Doge price than most exchanges. Even Gemini listed doge a few days ago and before they probably would of never considered listing it because the coin itself seems very low tech.

Watching SNL right now and whenever Doge is mentioned seems that there is a dump. Especially when Elon's mother said he doesn't want a Dogecoin mother's day gift. And after that was an even bigger dump. I guess guy its safe to say this was another buy the rumor and sell the news type of event.

He did mention Doge but I guess it wasn't good enough to make it reach a new ATH or even $1. Even that Barry guy said he is short the bear 3x token on FTX.
4024  Economy / Speculation / Re: May 13th, Bitcoin will surge to $70k or it will be dump? on: May 09, 2021, 03:33:49 AM
The reason why BTC is not doing anything while all alts are going crazy is because the dominace is dropping like a rock since beginning of April. Until we see dominance start to go up, it will keep trading sideways and alts like ETH, XRP, Doge will rally like crazy breaking ATH after ATH.

Currently most people rather buy Doge or ETH because BTC is just too expensive. Most people believe it will hit $100K, however it doesn't leave much profit if they buy at say $50K. Its only 2x gains.

If they buy Doge or ETH or that Shiba coin they can make 5x or more 10x gains. Hence why people are dumping btc for alts. And it will be this way until the trend reverses.
4025  Economy / Speculation / Re: 3 years ago, satoshi got greedy! on: May 09, 2021, 03:29:41 AM
The BitCoin pizza is worth about $48,000 now!  Shocked

 Cheesy
Its worth $870,000,000 right now
you can see the huge difference  Smiley

Did you really need to bump a 9 year old thread. I read the title and was thinking, it was going to be some conspiracy theory since satoshi was long done since 2018. However didn't expect to see a thread from 2012.

The pizza being worth $48K basically is proof that if you had 10000 BTC you most likely would of sold it in 2012 and if not then, then in 2013 when it had those 2 bubbles to $250 and $1000. There is no way you would of hold all those coins until $65K which happened a couple of weeks back.

Only people that would of held is maybe if they had like 50000BTC and they sold like 10% portion each year.
4026  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is a fan hub necessary for 5 fans installed on a GPU mining rig? on: May 09, 2021, 03:24:41 AM
Since those are low power fans you can probably get away with using the headers. However if you are planning on pulling more than 1 AMP then don't connect it to the headers because you will burn a spot on the motherboard.

I had a rig where I needed like 4-5 high speeds fans connected. These fans weren't low power and couldnt use the header for all of them. So what I did was basically just connect it to the auxilary CPU plug on the PSU (Some PSUs have 2 CPU connectors) and each fan was plugged in directly into the +12V and GND. I even bought the harness and it was a clean setup. This way I knew it would never melt. Just had to modify the wires a little bit and lost control over fan speed however that wasn't an issue for me.
4027  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Can I mine etheruem with a 4gb graphics card on: May 09, 2021, 03:18:56 AM
A couple of weeks ago people still managed to mine ETH with a 4GB video card using special software and putting the GPU in the main PCIe 3.0 x16 slot of the motherboard. This means you can't use a riser and needs to be inside the actual motherboard slot. You can only do this on one GPU per motherboard.

Go and search for lolminer software and there are tips and instructions on how to get this done. If you got more than 1 GPU you can put it in the other 3.0 x8 slot however both will run slower however it will still work. ETH is still profitable to its actually worth the effort. However you can't do this if you only got like 1 motherboard and 6 GPUs.
4028  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETC new historic ATH exceeds 900% in just 3 months on: May 08, 2021, 04:26:47 AM
The reason ETC is pumping is because all the legacy alt coins are pumping now. By legacy I mean the coins which existed in 2017 or so. They are all pumping based on market cap. At first it with Bitcoin, then DeFI coins, and now seems alts like LTC, Doge, ETC, EOS are all pumping like crazy. This is pretty much a repeat of 2017 and its scary when we see alt coins pumping this much while BTC is trading sideways.

ETC is crazy because many were scared to hold ETC a few months back because exchanges started to block withdraws and deposits due to the 51% attacks and look how its pumping now. I guess its good because those with <4GB and old ETH ASICs can finally mine for a decent profit.
4029  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining Doge on: May 08, 2021, 04:19:00 AM
Seems Elon musk created such a stir with his Doge pumping. People wanting to mine Doge with their Antminer S9's, people wanting to mine Doge with their RX 580 and now someone wanting to mine Doge with their 1080 instead of just mining ETH. All these threads started in the last 24 hours pretty much.

650KH/s is a pretty standard speed. An Radeon 7970 back in 2013 hashed Doge at like 650KH/s and was fully optimized. So your 1080 running with an unoptimized algo is pretty consistant with 650KH/s. Maybe after some tweaks you can get 1MH/s and that's the limit. Reason why nobody bothered because the network is controlled by ASICs. So would be a total waste to mine with GPUs.

Just mine ETH with your GPU and sell ETH for Doge if you want Doge.

Good luck.
4030  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Number 9! Ninth altcoin thread. Back to the moon Baby! on: May 08, 2021, 04:11:41 AM
So what is everyones input on what will happen tomorrow with Doge during the SNL show with Elon Musk? Seems that Doge is leading the crypto markets this week ever since he announced that he would go on SNL as "The Dogefather".

Every TikToker and Robinhooder is out there expecting at least $1/doge and some even want to see Doge go to $300 a Doge. Yes $300 for a single Doge. Things are getting nuts out there. There are some people posting their Robinhood Crypto screenshots and many are up $100,000 with only $1000 invested and they still haven't taken profit. No idea where this is going to go.

I think we will either go to like $0.95 and dump but if we break $1 then we might go to some crazy amount like $1.33 before going back down. Doge is almost #3 market cap and about to pass BNB. Some people are expecting Doge to surpass the ETH market cap.
4031  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Why is no one talking about shorting alts? on: May 07, 2021, 04:18:44 AM
Let me to tell you a story.

Back in 2017 there was a guy who had 100 BTC on Poloniex. He saw that Dash went to $100. Since it traded at $10 recently, he assumed it was a safe bet to short at $100 because there is no way it would hold its price of $100. So he opened a VERY LOW LEVERAGE short on Poloniex.

Fast forward a few months, he gets a margin call email saying he needs to provide more margin or his position will get liquidated if DASH hits $1000. He didnt have any BTC to provide margin, DASH topped at $1400, he got liquidated and lost it all. Then a few months after I think it went back down to $100.

Search for this story somewhere on Bitcointalk. No idea if the guy still posts.

But for the love of god, don't short alts in a crazy market like this.
4032  Economy / Speculation / Re: CoinDesk editor believes Bitcoin will hit 1 million per coin. on: May 07, 2021, 04:15:20 AM
@Juggy777. I would call that larping, however, presently witnessing that dogecoin is going to $1.00, I believe him hehehe. This is a crazy cryptospace market we have here. All fundamental analysis is thrown in exchange for the pump.

Dogecoin going to $1 is easier than bitcoin going to $1,000,000. You need to look at the market caps in this. It would be very difficult for bitcoin to be able to trade at $1,000,000 per coin. There are tons of people these days with around 1 coin or so, if they all held till $1M and decided to sell, where would the buyers be to absorb all that selling pressure. I don't think it would be sustainable.

Dogecoin is rallying due to a short squeeze and all the old adopter most likely sold. So only investors right now are the robinhooders and tiktokers who are thinking Doge is going to go to like $10/doge and they are holding and not selling until then. They have no idea how much supply of Doge there is.
4033  Economy / Speculation / Re: Does the price always trend towards all 5's on: May 07, 2021, 04:11:49 AM
$55555.55 don't mean anything neither does the meme number 69420 or 42069, etc. The numbers which are important are the $10K, $20K, $30K, $40K,$50K, $60K, etc.

$100K will be very important however we are far away from there. Also keep in mind the EUR currencies, remember when we hit like $62K and went back down. The $62K didn't mean anything but it was 50K Eur and it had significant resistance in that area.

Most likely the next big resistant will be around $80K when its $100,000 in Canadian and Aussie dollars. Then obviously the famous $100,000 BTCUSD which is going to be tough to crack at once.
4034  Economy / Speculation / Re: Who is Faster to dwindle at the price in the long run BITCOIN OR GOLD on: May 07, 2021, 04:08:47 AM
I'm guessing it probably didn't affect prices that much because:

1. Gold being mined or "found" are to be expected already since pretty much forever
2. Gold's liquidity is just too high to be significantly affected

As for bitcoin surviving a crisis, I'm still having mixed feelings. While betting on bitcoin when it comes to crises makes total sense, let's not forget that a lot of people holding bitcoin are just here to "get rich quick". They might just sell off immediately when bigger economic problems come.

Yes this is pretty much true. I got so many people around me talking about bitcoin, dogecoin, crypto this and crypto that. They basically got tons of money invested and are not selling until it hits some crazy number like $5/doge or $1Million/btc.

However it can quickly shift and change when all of a sudden a bear markets starts and people start to panic. Everybody will want to get out at once and the liquidity might not be there and we can quickly go to the $30K or $20K or even lower.

I don't see this happening with Gold. Its much more liquid and wouldn't have this issue. Gold would be more difficult to dump than BTC which is easy to sell with your exchange.
4035  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Can I mining Dogecoin with RX580 ? on: May 07, 2021, 04:02:39 AM
Even if you wanted to, pretty sure you can't mine with an RX580 because that card was released years after ASICs hit the Scyrpt algos. If you got an old GPU like the R9 280X then you can mine using sgminer. I recall exactly getting 750kh/s with my R9 280X. It was 7 years ago but I still remember first rig I built to mine Dogecoin and it hashed at 750kh/s.

Most GPUs these days use like 100 Watts or less. Do you know how much power it took to mine Litecoin/Dogecoin back in 2014? I had 1 rig with 2 GPUs. And the total power consumption was like 700 Watts. So around 350 Watts per GPU. Ahh those were the days.
4036  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Rig is acting weird on: May 07, 2021, 03:59:19 AM
Issues like this are the most difficult to solve. I had these problems in the past. Where it kept crashing every fews hours, and then stopped while doing nothing. Other times it was something wrong with the risers, PSU, GPU undervolted too much or overclocked too high, etc.

If you got more than 1 rig, switch around your PSU and see if it goes away. If it doesn't then swap your risers. If it doesn't then its going to be a pain to find out why it happens. Sometimes it happens for no reason and goes away. However my bet is on the risers or the PSU, most likely. Or you might be lucky and it'll stop crashing all of a sudden.
4037  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mine doge coin with cpu miner? on: May 07, 2021, 03:56:11 AM
Yes its true that Dogecoin was NEVER mined with CPUs. There was a short period when Scrypt was introduced (Litecoin algo) and it was CPU only at first. However GPUs quickly came into the game shortly after. Then the ASICs came and bye bye GPU mining.

There is actually a rumor, no idea if its true. Read it somewhere on the Litecoin reddit. But apparently they say that some LTC developers had a secret GPU miner software while only releasing a CPU version. So many suspect that some LTC devs mined Litecoin at a huge advantage. This is pure speculation and no idea if its true, way before my time in crypto. Maybe some old timer can confirm or deny these allegations.
4038  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Trouble mining with one card in Windows 10 on: May 07, 2021, 03:52:19 AM
IF the window closes right after you open it its because the program has either exited or there was some error. Most like some command error. Your directory also can have a typo in it, won't find the executable file and it will just close.

Do what the above poster says, edit the BAT file and add PAUSE to the very end of the file. So put it on the last line, this time when you run it, even if there is an error it won't close the window and you can read what you are doing wrong.

Also check the directory because there could be some BAT file provided by the software that you can use, just need to edit the pool data. Most people do this instead of creating their own BAT file from scratch.
4039  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Until when? on: May 04, 2021, 04:19:36 AM
The profits are about the same as they were for the past few months. Sure the block rewards are lower but the price is higher. So no reason to panic yet. The issue now is why so many people are paying these crazy prices for GPUs. In my craiglist area there are tons of GPUs for almost $2K and tons of mining rigs selling in the $10-15K range. And the ads get updated which means that eventually someone must of bought them.

You need to realise that buying a GPU for $2000 and overpaying by $1000 markup is not the same as buying an iPhone at launch from a scalper or buying some new sport cars at huge dealer markup. Usually those people have money and they know they are over paying. However people which start mining, see that a GPU is $2000 and they go to a calculator and see that it makes like $5/day and they assume that it will pay off in about a year and the following year will be pure profit. However mining and difficulty doesn't work that way and I see alot of people getting burnt who are taking out loans to buy all these expensive GPUs.
4040  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: OMG eth's reward on 40% (earnings in $ on 20%) downed for 14 days!!! on: May 04, 2021, 04:13:34 AM
You should know by now that ETH mining rewards are VERY difficult to predict. At first I assumed that we would stay in the $2K area and gas fees would be in the average ~100 Gwei area and the complete opposite happened. The price went up 50% but the fees are down to like 25 Gwei on average.

Looking at the hashrate it still is going up almost exponentially and now we know the reason due to those upcoming ASICs, a few months ago we would of never assumed this. This is why don't try and predict the amount you will make per day with ETH, its way too volatile to predict.
