421  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [SEND] Sendcoin & SendChat Messaging App Crowdfund [BLOCKTRUST] on: February 04, 2015, 06:56:55 AM

what's the chance of getting the required 350btc ?
sitting on 68btc atm.

It has jumped considerably in the past 2 days, I'm not sure if it will reach 350, but perhaps someone with deep pockets is waiting for the last possible moment to ensure they get the majority of the sendcoin without having to compete with anyone else.
422  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] IPO of MaidSafe:  Entering the Future of the Decentralized Internet on: February 03, 2015, 04:05:14 PM
is Maidsafe 'safe' to buy via poloniex? I am reading conflicting reports on this (though they are dated from more than 6 months ago)

thanks.

Lets say I have 3x2 TB drives and leave my computer on most of the time; would BURST be at all profitable?
424  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WHO IS NAKAMOTODARK? on: January 26, 2015, 06:02:00 PM
if you love bitcoin buy nakamotodark , a tribute to satoshi nakamoto  Cool but who is the dev of nakamotodark??? that's the question

It is actually not a question; as the official website and twitter reference it as being a "tribute" coin it is pretty clear that the coin is in no way associated with the actual Satoshi Nakamoto (or whomever created bitcoin)
425  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WHO IS NAKAMOTODARK? on: January 26, 2015, 04:52:29 PM
Yeah I'm having a hard time buying that the guy who designed and supposedly owns 10% of BTC needs to come back and use a Guy Fawkes mask for a shitcoin.

This is an image posted on the NakamotoDark official twitter account:

Another image:

For real.

Look at the wallet as posted on the official twitter:

"THE FIRST TRIBUTE COIN TO THE GENIUS"

I'm pretty sure that makes it clear that Nakamoto (or whoever created bitcoin) has nothing to do with this.

This isn't even bad. It's just embarrassing.

Not to mention the fact that most of the altcoin creators are just as anonymous; its easy to go posting random shit insinuating it 'might' be someone when we all know it isn't.

Here's a suggestion, if its not already in use, greencoin.  Just rebrand your coin. You might be able to take those bags to the moon, who knows.

Agreed.

tbh I'm interesting in purchasing some but the D-word is a hard selling point--it really makes it sound like it is for hard drugs (depending on what area of the world you're operating from).

Again my personal opinion, but I also think the amount of anonymous/guy fawkes masks on the website makes it look a little ridiculous too (feel free to disagree).

Hi ik_do,

I get where you and everyone is coming from , but the D-word can be interpreted in many ways and for a lot of people its just a cool slang word that is used.

An example at least on the American side is ,  it could be said this is a  dope-ass-coin  does that mean its hard drug coin ? lol ...just sayin....

Anon. Guy Fawks masks are generally there to give the feeing things are safe and nobody knows what you do with your DopeCoins. At least that is what I think the intentions are  Cheesy

I know it can be interpreted many ways--that can sometimes be a disadvantage. Given that cannabis legalization is still in its infancy it is difficult to say how different countries would react to different names, so maybe it is something to be discussed in the future rather than now.

I'm actually more put off by the Guy Fawkes mask than the name though.

New website is coming, the concentration of Guy Fawkes mask will be lowered there Grin

Yeah I think it would be best; consider that the Guy Fawkes mask is pretty much associated with hacking (at least in the public's eye) and ask yourself if you'd really want to download a software with that all over it?

I honestly don't think there is any need to have any reference to Guy Fawkes mask at all, especially since 'dope' is almost inevitably going to be made legal in many countries in the near future.

Dope means heroine. Dope means hard drugs.

It doesn't mean heroine . Dope = Cool  and people say get me some Dope for weed.

430  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GEMZ]| SOCIAL MESSAGING APP THAT PAYS | Android App Released | on: January 26, 2015, 02:09:01 PM
Why can not I log in counterparty. This is the message: " No counterparty servers are currently available. Please try again later. ERROR: The server is not fully caught up to the blockchain. Please logout and try later. (Most likely this message is due to the server being updated.) " This puts into question my safety. I do not feel safe with GEMS. Counterparty server does not work and so I did not have my GEMS. I do not like this whole GEMS. Peled1986 voice heard. The application also do not mix.

If you do not like them, you should sell them.

That said, your GEMS aren't stored by counterparty servers, they are stored on the bitcoin blockchain. You could probably also create a script to spend them with a normal bitcoin client to, if you were so inclined.

Even if counterwallet dissapeared one day, as long as you remember your 12 word passphrase you can always retrieve your addresses and corresponding private keys using a tool like https://blockscan.com/tool_generatekey

Just the 12 word passphrase to remember sucks, why not beign able to set an normal password also, you HAVE TO write 12 words somewhere in order to remeber them but not the password.

If you're actually remembering these passwords you're plainly doing it wrong.

All your wallets should have different passwords.

I strongly suggest you look at using a service such as lastpass or some form of password store/encrypted file store that offers two factor authentication to store your passwords otherwise you're really putting yourself at risk of not only forgetting/misplacing passwords but having all your accounts at risk from a single password.

Even passwords I used to use 5-6 years ago that are not listed in any dictionary and I am 100% sure I have only ever used show up in brute force dictionaries now (7+ alphanumerical characters). Websites you don't use for a long time do get hacked.
431  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [SEND] Sendcoin & SendChat Messaging App Crowdfund [BLOCKTRUST] on: January 26, 2015, 05:28:46 AM
Just so I'm clear here - if the ico falls even 1 btc short of 350 btc it will be cancelled. Currently there is less than 18 btc collected with 11 days left.

Supposedly the "big" investors are waiting for the last minute so they can score a lot for a little.

We'll see.

PONZI is dead for atleast a year from now so please dont deposit to any ponzi game u will have a better chance on a casino or dice game

strongly agree. if you have money you're itching to spend use it somewhere else, you can at least have a better chance with that.

the risk of this game is not worth it for just 30%

Here's a wild idea; if there are heavy doubters on the coin who have been commenting sporadically for the past 10 pages or so and not providing a shred of evidence or making any statement that makes sense how about we just don't reply to them.

I run a website that I use to explore some of the bizarre/interesting aspects of cryptocurrency.

Feel free to take a look: http://cryptolonography.tumblr.com/

(sorry if this is in the wrong section, I thought this was the most appropriate area to post it)

I'm not so keen on the logo.

Any views? I could get someone to produce some alternatives.

I like it. I think it is simple enough.

Its not an idea that needs a mascot or anything flashy.
436  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BURST] Burst | Efficient HDD Mining | New 1.2.1 Automated Transactions on: January 23, 2015, 07:23:49 PM
a few things

-download page on official website doesnt work and has broken images
-twitter page has no logo or link to main website
-readme.txt contains no instructions beyond telling people how to sync clocks so I can't figure out how to get the wallet running; if I try and run the bat file I get an error saying I need Java despite already having it installed.

I lost 2 btc on WeeklyPonzi - so I'm not playing on it anymore.

if you had gambled the same amount (in smaller divisions) on any gambling website you probably wouldn't have lost everything too.

A good idea for a coin does not mean its price will reflect that too.
Even if the dev creates a great coin, it doesn't mean the coin will be worth much.
The idea is worth a lot, but why would any one be willing to buy this coin.
It has no added value for buyers over other coins.
Miners will be happy that you are willing to take this coin of their hands.

Have you never seen what happens to most altcoins,
even if the ideas thrive, the price usually 'bleeds out'.
Unless you have some great marketing tricks up your sleeve.

I assume that the value of this currency will be directly tied to bandwidth that users share or use; I imagine for people who just want to download a single file they would be able to get enough free VTR from faucets and then generate the rest by being a courteous user of the network.

Users who share quality files should be awarded the highest amount.

This still needs more explanation obviously.

I like the look of this coin. I'll buy some from Bittrex. Great idea dev. I love torrents too. Smiley

Shillaccount?
just 1 post as of now, and promoting this coin which is not looking good at the moment.

How is it not looking good at the moment?
People are waiting to see how this idea develops; last time I checked ideas take time.

For all you greedy idiots:

On "how to spot a ponzi", add if it's in the site's name it may be one Smiley

I think the difference is people are trying to lend credibility because this one is run in a transparent way; anyway anyone who reads the last few pages will know that if you can't guarantee your deposit is sorted out less than a fraction of a second after the game starts you lose.
