421  Other / Meta / Re: Is it accepted to call member criminal in a thread - no proof, no context... on: November 29, 2023, 11:48:31 PM
He is convinced that I am somehow stealing his money through some deep-state mechanics related to Ukraine. Oh, well... you are right, a badge it is then.
Well, if that's all it is, it's obviously craziness.  Whether it's against the rules or not, I have to wonder why you'd create a thread about it.  You've been here long enough to know you ought to let that crap roll right off you like rain from a duck's feathers.  If he was accusing you of something very specific in the way of criminality, then I might contest it in a thread--but BADecker is just throwing a nonsense word tantrum

Follow the Beatles and just let it be, eh?
422  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk news ( more like drama/gossip thread) where to start it? on: November 29, 2023, 10:17:48 PM
A participant in one of the campaigns I manage got an advertised service tattooed on his penis.  Grin
Um....I'm guessing the service being advertised isn't going to be seen by the target demographic much, but these days you just never know.   Grin

Man, signature campaigns mean so much to a lot of people.  What you described sounds a bit extreme, though.
This takes support to a whole new level, it certainly takes a lot of balls to do too.
I chuckled out loud when I read that.  Dude should have had that anatomical area stretched out and had it covered with advertising.  That would be dedication.
423  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: SATOCHIP Bitcointalk Limited Edition HW cards! on: November 29, 2023, 09:17:26 PM
Gawd dangly!!  These are absolutely awesome.  I'm not a big crypto collector, but I love any forum-related memorabilia, if only for the fact that there don't tend to be a lot of bitcointalk collectibles.  I appreciate you alerting the community about this gem, OP.  Satochips are great to use, but they're kind of like postage stamps and coins as well--art can be added on top of the practicality.

ordered mine - looks like 2 remain.
Nice.  There are only 5 cards being made?  That seems like an incredibly limited edition.  And yeah OP, I know you said the number but I'm just voicing my thoughts out loud here.  Wouldn't they want to make more?
424  Economy / Economics / Re: Inventing a job is better than finding a job on: November 29, 2023, 08:03:36 PM
The world population is increasing
I just want to stop right here and ask about this particular point you made.  I haven't looked (and probably should have before beginning this post), but I've heard that because of the newer generation(s) not being interested in sex that population growth has either slowed significantly or gone negative.  If all you're saying is that it's increasing, well, that's been true for centuries.  Probably since the beginning of man, right?

That quote in the title, I heard it in The Social Network and still remember it.  The Larry Summers character said it to the Winklevoss twins about Harvard students--and that's just the thing; it might very well be true for those who could get into a university like Harvard, but for the rest of us inventing a job and not only being able to support yourself and perhaps a family too, but to turn it into something highly profitable, is a pipe dream.  The fact that there are so many human beings on the planet makes it nearly impossible to do it, because there are only so many jobs one can invent without the need for workers, i.e., those who find jobs.

All of that blather aside, I'd have to at least agree that working for yourself is way better than being a cog in the enormous wheel of the corporate world (if you're not an upper-level boss, that is).
425  Other / Meta / Re: My LB do not have a merit source. on: November 29, 2023, 07:35:23 PM
You are obviously not a newbie mate and all you have said is totally true. But I see no reason why you should create another account to speck up. You shouldn't be scared to give a positive suggestion here on the forum.
A lot of members from pretty much any rank are scared to contact Theymos via PM, at least if what I receive in my own inbox to be true--they'll keep apologizing for contacting me for a review, even though I've made the offer, etc.  So OP might be an alt who's trying to get Theymos's ear, and personally I don't have a problem with it.

Hey Theymos, could you possibly give us a state of the union address, focusing on the merit system?  Like how you think it's working, how merit sources are performing, and whether you think we need some new ones?  Don't know about anyone else, but I'd sure as hell appreciate it.
426  Economy / Reputation / Re: mopar on: November 28, 2023, 11:01:13 PM
OP, stop bumping this thread with multiple posts.  If you need to respond to several members, do it in one post.  You're not allowed to bump your own thread more than once per 24 hours.

And since this seems to be a Collectibles-related matter, I've got no dog in the fight and no bias toward or against anyone posting here.  So I have to say that your posts are juvenile, and your response to a neutral feedback looks very much like a small child throwing a tantrum in a room full of people who aren't his parents and don't love him.  In other words, you haven't gotten any support; you're not going to get any; grow a spine and stop whining about a neutral when you've got negative feedback from members like Foxpup.  Your bearing is that of a retard.
427  Other / Meta / Re: Can a merit source re-start Ratimov merit threads. on: November 28, 2023, 10:19:25 PM
there are other merit sources that have their own way of distributing their merits example is The Sceptical Chymist who prefers PM for personal review<snip>
SHH.

I haven't "fallen out of love" with doing post history reviews, nor have I gone the route of Ratimov but as of late I've been up to my ass in alligators in real life and my motivation for doing them has dropped dramatically.  I'm hoping that 'ol mojo will come back soon, but right now I've got a queue of members who've PMed me and for who I still need to reviews.  I haven't paused my offer, but just know that any new requests are going to be in for a long-ish wait time.

Sometimes doing stuff like this is a pain in the ass.  I suspect that's why you don't see more merit sources doing giveaways and the like.
428  Economy / Reputation / Re: Should Ratimov aka Symmetrick be in DT1? on: November 28, 2023, 02:09:58 AM
On a side note, love how you guys are worried about leaving a tag and want to have solid reasoning. Wish we had that in our universe where I'm from.😅
Well, where the rest of us are at, this method is the most prudent when there's a contentious issue.  Some red tags can be handed out with zero debate while others are way more complicated.

You take a week off from a thread, and it's like stepping into an alternate universe – either the thread got wiped out, or we've got a brand-new OP.
No shit.  I read most of this thread when it started, and right now I feel like I need to go back and figure out just what the hell is really going on.  Guess I haven't really been paying attention to this--or at least not enough.

So Symmetric (ex. Ratimov) went to the full length of lodging a request with a site administrator just to change his username? AFAIK this is the only way it's possible to be done outside of being a VIP (50 BTC donation).
And it was granted just like that? Uhhh... Weird but ok.  Huh
Nah, lots of members (including yours truly) have gotten name changes granted via a simple request to Theymos.  Hell, cryptovatorcoolvator even got two of them.  And yeah, I know this has already been addressed.
429  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk news ( more like drama/gossip thread) where to start it? on: November 27, 2023, 05:58:45 PM
reputation and off topic would be appropriate for such topics.
No, not off-topic for forum drama.  Either Reputation or Meta, and both of these have already been suggested and I'm pretty sure OP is thinking of one or the other.

Welcome back, TheBeardedBaby!  Compared to years past, there really hasn't been tons of drama or really serious crap go down since you've been gone.  Yeah, the Ratimov thing and Royse777 getting his reputation tarnished practically overnight.  Vod came back twice to stir the pot about OgNasty and forum funds....aside from those things, I'll be damned if I can think of anything that stuck in my Teflon memory bank.  It's been almost too quiet.
430  Other / Meta / Re: DT1 and DT2 Explained - Gods of Bitcointalk on: November 27, 2023, 02:07:46 PM
DT2 members their power from the gods directly. So unless a DT1 god supports them, they are just peasants, mortals.
I like to think of myself as The Fallen Angel (and dammit, that's what I ought to have changed my username to) rather than some kind of lesser god.

And boy, after bumping around DT1 and DT2 for years, I'm right back where I started....grateful to have had those god particles thrust upon me and aware of the responsibilities that come with being on either tier of the DT list.  Hopefully new additions to it and future ones realize that there are responsibilities, like keeping a relatively cool head, being conservative when handing out negative trust (and even more conservative with positive trust), and probably other stuff that my muddled mind can't bring to the fore at the moment.

However grateful I am, though, I'm going to keep saying that being on DT isn't what it used to be because of the rotating system.  Don't know if anyone agrees with me on that or if it even matters, but that's how I see it.  DT is dead!  Long live DT!
431  Economy / Services / Re: [CFNP] [banned mixer] - Premium Mixing | Sig Campaign | Up to $210/W on: November 27, 2023, 11:43:46 AM
Do you feel inconvenienced by increased transaction costs? We are NO.
And even if the transaction costs us $100, this should not affect you in any way, my friends.  Wink
One would hope any campaign wouldn't skimp on the fees, but when they're sky-high it'd be smart on the project's part to not go overboard.  That kind of reminds me of all those internet startups in the late 90s and early 00s that burned through capital as fast as they got it--and on unnecessary stuff, too.

Sorry, that sounds like I'm against them taking care of campaign participants, which I'm not.  In fact, it's a generous gesture and when fees are high bitcoin is usually acting pretty volatile and who knows what could happen with the price when you're waiting and waiting?

Kudos on you, icopress, and MixTum as well.
432  Other / Meta / Re: sMerit should be sent out in 2's to allow for 1 sMerit to be born on: November 27, 2023, 11:12:38 AM
I understand the merit system in the forum is not to be appealed for as it violates the very understanding and purpose of the merit system, hence, I am not directly or indirectly appealing for it and <snip ca ca>
I'm sorry OP, but I have to stop right here and give you a suggestion: if you're creating a thread to ask a simple question or to address an issue that doesn't require a ton of elaboration, don't blow up your first post like a blimp, i.e., fill it with all of this bloated nonsense.  Especially if your grasp of English is tenuous.

What's the point of this thread?
It's a very thinly-veiled merit grab attempt.  That's it.
433  Other / Meta / Re: These degenerates don't wanna quit.. is there a way out? on: November 26, 2023, 10:23:49 PM
Those might not be your funds but as a forum member you have the same right as any other to make suggestions or ask questions right? What struck me was the question you asked about the new forum and would like to know what exactly is going on with it. Has there ever been a realistic estimated release date?
Suggestions and questions are absolutely appropriate--I guess since I mentioned the lack of upgrades in the context of the forum having enough money to make substantial upgrades, I qualified that by saying that I've got no financial stake in anything Theymos has planned and certainly wouldn't make demands that he hurry up and finish that pie-in-the-sky new forum software and the like.

I'm guessing if that project ever does get completed, I'm probably not going to like how the forum looks as much as I do now--but it's been the same since I registered, so I've known no different.  OP's complaints aren't unreasonable IMO, since forum accounts do have value and said complaints are about security.  The emotion might have been turned down a notch or two, but if nobody bitched about anything then there would be no progress, right?
434  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: BitBox02 Experiences on: November 26, 2023, 11:18:22 AM
a counterfeit version of the BitBoxApp, the wallet software for the BitBox02, has emerged.
I'm shocked, I tell you.  Shocked!!

what is particularly exciting is that the ln wallet will be set up using the BitBox02 hardware.
What did you mean when you said this? It makes it sound like the hardware device will provide the RNG for the entropy of the keys for the lightning wallet, but that's probably not it. Will the Lightning Network wallet be separate from the main one (with its own keys) or just a feature of the standard wallet?
Now this is actually what I came to the HW wallet section for, because I was just on Bitbox's website and saw that they were developing their own little device from which you could run a bitcoin lightning network node, which they called the BitBoxBase.  I'd never read anything on the forum about this and was wondering if anyone knew about it.  It's not revolutionary for experienced users, of course, but for retards like me it might be a neat thing to blow money on.

Guess they put the development on hold for some reason.
435  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Trade without waiting and No more Heart Beating on: November 26, 2023, 03:43:02 AM
The website for this is the most loaded diaper I've ever seen, and I've seen a-plenty.

Uh, yeah.  I have an easy solution to that psychological problem.  Just step away from whatever screen you're using to look at the market when it's going crazy, take a breather, take a dump, whatever.  Come back when calm.  I didn't bother to see what "data-backed recommendations" you're providing, but your coin is a whole lot of bloated nothing.
436  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] New Crypto for SocialFi on: November 26, 2023, 03:36:40 AM
Good project. investing now...
Seriously?  Gotta take a look at when you registered, BRB.

....OK, looks like you've been in the altcoin space for years now.  I suspected yours might have been a bought/hacked account, because it's hard for me to believe any member at Hero rank would look at the website for this shitcoin and think there was any substance to it.

SocialFi?
Nano-influencers?

What the hell does any of that even mean?  It's a bunch of word salad that's been left out in the heat too long, that's how bad it is.
437  Other / Archival / Re: NeuroticFish, on default trust, using trust feedback to side with a known abuser on: November 26, 2023, 12:00:20 AM
Digaran, can you elaborate on what the issue is with NeuroticFish?  I've been off the forum more in the past week than I usually am so I think I've probably missed a few things.

@digaran, let me advice you. If you continue like this, you will have more DT members giving you negative trust and it is not just helping your account if reputed members on this forum are giving you negative trust. I will advise you to just mind your own business and not thinking that DT members are bad.
But now that I think about it, your tone is familiar, almost like someone trying to scare an unsuspected member to shut them up, like "DT will come for you if you don't stop it"
I'm gonna have to agree with you on that one.  I don't get the feeling that you're trolling with these threads (as provocative as they are), and even if you were you shouldn't get negative trust for it--and especially not from anyone on DT.  I thought we'd all gotten past that issue by now, or at least most of the senior members had.

Challenging the legitimacy of someone's standing on DT is fine, but you've got to make a solid argument.
438  Other / Meta / Re: These degenerates don't wanna quit.. is there a way out? on: November 25, 2023, 05:32:46 PM
And, quit your bitching! No one will hack your account if you take enough care of your security.
What about that big hack back in 2017?  Wasn't that a hack of the forum and its data itself rather than of individual accounts?

And to be fair, there are many aspects of bitcointalk that are still in the 2009 era and really shouldn't be.  I mean I like the consistency of the UI and all that, but 1) Where's that New Forum Software that's been in the works since probably before I joined in 2015, and 2) At least a small amount of the forum's funds should probably go toward upgrading a few things--maybe 2FA, improving the search function, creating a mobile-friendly version, and also a dark mode.  Just my 2 sats; those aren't my funds, so it's not like my "vote" matters.
439  Economy / Reputation / Re: Should Ratimov aka Symmetrick be in DT1? on: November 24, 2023, 09:44:20 PM
You two are right there. I failed to understand the donation part. The feedback has been removed.
Props to you for acknowledging an error instead of doubling down for ego reasons like most people do.  That's to be respected IMO.

But Jesus, I'll have to go back and read everything again since it looks like there's been some drama added to the already-existing drama, or at least an attempt to escalate the pre-existing drama.  I might be wrong, but when I saw this thread a couple of days ago, Symmetrick's name was not present--and I'm not even sure I've seen that username before.

Is there an established correlation between the price of bitcoin and the level of forum drama?  I've not done the analysis myself, but if I had to guess...
440  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Account Frozen Due to Suspicion of Money Laundering on: November 24, 2023, 05:59:54 PM
Obviously a fake website,

100% sure OP didnt deposit a dollar and was 'given' the funds/account through some sort of lottery etc.
Could be.  I haven't read through every post here, but I checked to see if OP made some sort of followup post (and he didn't that I can tell).

If there's any grain of truth to this story, hopefully it wasn't that OP had $74k worth of crypto on an exchange, because that's a major mistake that nobody ought to be making these days.  However, if there was ever going to be an accusation of money laundering being slung against someone, it'd probably be because they were dealing in amounts that high.  Sure, $74k could be peanuts to some people....but it's not peanuts, and I don't think there's an exchange in existence that should be trusted with that high a dollar amount.  Yikes.
