4201  Economy / Economics / Re: Interesting perspective of Investors on: July 15, 2020, 06:37:18 PM
News headlines are sometimes made to be attractive and doesn't always reflect the actual content of the report.
Twitter polls are also getting overated these days, approximately 28k users participated in that poll, so the statement '60% of investors" is misleading, that is not the actual number of investors and there's really no guarantee that the profiles which were involved are actually all investors, so it can't be viewed as a microcosm of the total number. Literally anyone that's on Twitter, can click on a screen and their votes would be counted.
Random social media polls are not reliable means of judging public opinions on certain matters.

feel free to leave your thoughts on this , plus with the new crypto debit card to be launched are you guys gonna buy it ?
Only level 2 verified users on binance are eligible, this means I will have to go through KYC process. So, it's a no for me.

Update;
Quote
It has been agreed that the second phase of the selection process will expire on 7 September, and on that date the third and final phase will begin, which will “last no more than two months”.

Between 1 September, when the new Director-General was originally expected to assume his responsibilities, and the end of the third phase, one of the existing Deputy Directors-General will serve as Acting Director-General.
Source - http://sdg.iisd.org/news/eight-countries-submit-wto-director-general-nominations-selection-process-timelines-announce

The dates for the candidates to meet the general council began today (15-17 July) and the complete second phase would be ending on the 7th of September. The current Director-General officially steps down on the 1st of September, so there will be an acting DG until the election process is completed.
The consultation and selection process, which is the final stage, would last for no more than two months.
4203  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to Report Scam member and Baned him? on: July 15, 2020, 01:32:35 PM
This post is on the wrong board, it's more suitable in reputation or meta

Scams are not moderated by the forum, so the user would not be banned for attempting to deceive others.
• You can report the posts to the moderator (option is at the bottom right corner of each post), if they contains malicious links, or are off topic, the posts would be deleted and the user likely nuked if they have low activity.
• You can create a scam accusation thread against them, you would need actual evidence to do this.
• You can also use the trust feedback and flag system. I am of the opinion that users whether on DT or not should give feedback if they suspect an account to be untrustworthy.
4204  Economy / Speculation / Re: Would you buy/use Bitcoin if you knew its price would not reach a new ATH? on: July 14, 2020, 09:50:45 PM
- Yes, as long as I can earn money with it
Being paid in bitcoin does not count as earning money from it, imo. It's a payment for a service rendered, and can be made in different currencies.
On the issue of signatures, as long as the forum is a recognized means of advertising, it would be used. Spikes in Bitcoin price usually creates more traffic, but in general there are lots of members here really interested in discussing about it (there would likely be a drop if bitcoin loses its speculative value).
-Yes, as a consumer

The second option would then be the one for those using it for payments
Paying for service rendered (like promotions) will fall under this category, and signature campaigns would as well. So I don't think the poll is flawed

The fact that members here accept payments in Bitcoin is also one of the motivations to hodl it. I doubt many would be interested in dropping their bank account details or using some other payment channel which would require personal details to register.
4205  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: July 14, 2020, 08:32:54 PM
...
It's going to be a very nervy end to the season for WBA, couple of slip ups since the restart has opened up the space for Brentford to possibly enter an automatic spot which makes for a more dramatic season finale, but their destiny is still in their hands with two games to go. I however think that they (Brentford) would be playing in the top flight next season whichever route they follow.
I remember Bilic from his time at Westham, quite andl eccentric manager, would love to see him again in the EPL.
4206  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: July 14, 2020, 06:56:57 PM
As the season approaches its end and places are being decided, we can take a look at the lower division to see the clubs most likely to be playing in the premier league next season. The current holders of the EFL championship trophy have already been relegated from the EPL and a number of teams are competing to fill their spots and the two others which will open up;

The first and second placed teams would be automatically promoted to the premier league.
The third-sixth placed teams would be involved in the playoffs; a series of knockout matches to decide the third team to be promoted.
As it stands only 4 points separate the 6th and 12th placed teams, so the opportunity is still open to a number of clubs to get into the playoffs and also lots to play for at the summit of the table for the automatic slots.

Which team(s) are you most looking forward to seeing in the EPL next season?

4209  Economy / Speculation / Re: Would you buy/use Bitcoin if you knew its price would not reach a new ATH? on: July 14, 2020, 05:40:27 AM
If the price doesn't reach a new ATH is the foreseeable future, that could signify a certain level of stability in the price. Volatility has prevented lots of outlets from accepting bitcoins as a means of payment and those who do, usually use payment processors. If the price however became more stable, this could increase adoption and give Bitcoin more practical uses while still maintaining its core values, hence an added incentive to hold.
So I'll definitely still hold bitcoins. It can still be used for instant transactions, to anywhere in the world. Citizens of developing countries who may want to escape inflation in their country, like what happened in Zimbabwe, can easily hold their assets in other currencies, asides their local fiat, without going through the hassles of creating a domiciliary account.

The absence of speculative value would draw more light to its various applications.
4210  Other / Meta / Re: What sensitive user data does Bitcointalk store? on: July 13, 2020, 08:04:06 PM
The OP of that thread says it is outdated. I would suggest referring to the privacy page linked in the post above yours.
The reply I quoted was made after the edition of the OP, so it's likely still relevant.
A quote from the privacy page suggests that the forum admins acts voluntarily when it comes to release of sensitive data, so I'll guess there's no strict rule on that;
Quote
At our sole discretion, we may voluntarily assist law enforcement worldwide. Generally we do this only when we perceive that the target user has probably committed a serious and non-victimless crime.
4211  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Next Director-General of the WTO on: July 13, 2020, 06:22:43 PM
I think that the Dr Liam Fox is best for that. It is my opinion.
He looks like someone that can fill the role adequately, as do a lot of those on the list honestly.
I'm backing Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala currently, not merely due to national sentiments but her proven track record and personality.

I considered that not everyone would be willing to download their biographies, so I'll link wiki pages here for anyone interested. It is not as detailed but contains some relevant information;
Dr Jesús Seade Kuri
Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala
• *Mr Abdel-Hamid Mamdouh, there seems to be no record of this person on Wikipedia and I can't find a LinkedIn match at this time.
Mr Tudor Ulianovschi
Ms Yoo Myung-hee
Ms Amina C. Mohamed
• *Mr Mohammad Maziad Al-Tuwaijri, doesn't also have a wiki biography

and if it would pass this data on to investigating authorities in case of inquiries?
Current policy is to release IPs only in response to a court order or a reasonable police request. (I don't guarantee that I won't release IPs in other cases, though.)
I however don't know if this includes any other information besides IP addresses.
4213  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The Art of Exploiting vs the Bad Habit of Scamming on: July 13, 2020, 05:43:00 PM
...
You should read the contents of my reply. I never said it was a scam but manipulation. An exploit would be finding a glitch, but when you create it yourself it's manipulation, imo at least.
I was sharing similar ideas as the reply you linked, but with different words;
Quote
There was intent in this case to move the odds in their favour assuming both individuals were working together. It would count as market manipulation to me. An exploit would be taking advantage of an existing flaw. A scam would be to use dubious and sometimes criminal means to cheat a system.
4214  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The Art of Exploiting vs the Bad Habit of Scamming on: July 13, 2020, 05:01:07 PM
Into what kind of category would that fall ? Exploit ? Scam ? Market manipulation ?
Sounds so much like a pump and dump scheme.
There was intent in this case to move the odds in their favour assuming both individuals were working together. It would count as market manipulation to me. An exploit would be taking advantage of an existing flaw. A scam would be to use dubious and sometimes criminal means to cheat a system.
Bookies can protect themselves with their ToS in different situations, and they make it as wide as possible to leave then enough wiggle room, so players can as well push the very limits to swing the odds to their favour. When both parties get too close to the edges, it could be outrightly unethical, but isn't a scam imo.

There is however a thin line between, scamming and manipulating and there would be diverse opinions on this.
4215  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Lockdown easing - I'm back in the cafe on: July 13, 2020, 10:26:40 AM
We are experiencing a similar situation over here, lockdown is being eased in most of the cities, even the ones that are most hit. Several sectors have been allowed to open back up and sometime last week the first commercial domestic flight in months took to the air.
There however seems to be pattern in the easing process, the government is only opening up sectors which generates revenue for it i.e, which it can tax directly such as airports, hotels etc while other sectors which are not subject to coperate taxes, but will instead require funding to safely open up, like schools have remained closed.

The coronavirus is a fairly minor virus infection - I believe it is ranked at 36 in the severity list,
As long as the health care system can stay above the situation, it can be managed, but with the rate of spread, it can easily exceed the capacity of a national health system and more people would have otherwise survived with adequate care would be left untreated. For developing nations with a poor health structure, the situation could get critical.
4216  Other / Politics & Society / Next Director-General of the WTO on: July 13, 2020, 06:58:29 AM
WTO~World Trade Organization is the body designed to promote and maintain peaceful trades between it's members, it also settles disputes and creates an enabling environment for both advanced economies and EMDEs (emerging markets and developing economies).

"The World Trade Organization (WTO) is the only global international organization dealing with the rules of trade between nations. At its heart are the WTO agreements, negotiated and signed by the bulk of the world’s trading nations and ratified in their parliaments. The goal is to ensure that trade flows as smoothly, predictably and freely as possible." source
The WTO has 164 member countries and others are seeking to join.
As economies are becoming more interconnected with increase in global trade and global financial openness the duty of the WTO has become more relevant. It's effect however has become less evident.

The current Director-General Roberto Azevêdo was elected on the 1st of September, 2013 and re-elected at the end of his first four year term in 2017. During his tenure the body achieved some success but has been relatively ineffective for some years, with growing dispute between the three major players; the U.S. EU and China and it's inability to cut down subsidies on fishing. The Appellate body of the World Trade Organization (WTOAB) which is the de facto supreme Court of the WTO has also been crippled, as at last year, it couldn't meet the minimum number of judges (3) required to preside over a case, due to blocking of appointments by the U.S.

On the 14th of May, this year, he announced that he would be stepping down from his role, a year before the end of his tenure and amidst a global crisis which is putting a major strain on world trade. This has left the body in a search for a new Director-General before their next ministerial conference which takes place next year in Kazakhstan.

The selection process includes;
• a nomination period, were governments are allowed to present candidates, this lasts for a month, after which accepted candidates are invited to meet the general council and present their mandate (15-17 July, 2020, the 2nd phase ends officially on the 7 September, 2020). The WTO then meets with other bodies to decide and select a new Director-General before the deadline (*1st September, 2020, the date has been pulled back due to the nature of this year's election and there would be an acting Director-General from this date, till a new DG is selected).

Nomination period is currently over and 8 candidates have been accepted;

4218  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The Art of Exploiting vs the Bad Habit of Scamming on: July 12, 2020, 08:51:45 AM
I would take the perspective of the gamblers in this situation. Are there any rules protecting them and their wagers?
Going through the ToS of so many gambling sites, they put in lots of leeway and wiggle room which allows them to legally protect themselves should a flaw in their system be exploited. So when such flaws are brought to light, mostly when a big win happens, they reserve the right to refuse to pay the player.
We should also consider that many players may have unintentionally played games (such as betting above the payable multiplier limit) that would have been otherwise rejected were they to have hit a huge winning due to there being a flaw, but as they didn't, there was no issue and their stakes were lost, so they were always going to lose either way.

Taking advantage of a obvious system error is no doubt unethical, but does it qualify as scamming, I don't think so, as intention cannot be judged easily.
• If I visited an ATM and it dispensed more cash that I requested and I kept the money without counting it, that should not be a scam as I wasn't aware and not in the habit of counting cash I receive from a machine.
• If I indeed counted it and still kept the money (thinking; my lucky day), this is open to discussion, but possibly an exploit.
• But if I counted it, kept the money and attempted several other times to cheat the machine, this should be outrightly fraudulent as I'm taking advantage of an obvious glitch repeatedly with intent to cheat. A scam.

Intent is important both on the part of the platform and the gambler.
• If the same machine were to be underpaying people who use it and the providers were aware but left it as most were not aware, up until a scammer comes along and exploits that flaw to their advantage, and at this point they whip out their user agreements. Have they been running a scam?
4219  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: July 12, 2020, 08:20:36 AM
Aston Villa and Bournemouth are already relegated,
Norwich with 21 points out of 35 games are the only team that have been mathematically relegated from the league.
4220  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: July 12, 2020, 07:55:58 AM
So many exciting fixtures to look forward to today.
Wolves welcome Everton and have to win to keep pace with the rest of the European football contenders. Both teams are lacking in squad depth and as a result players have been overworked over the past couple of weeks, with little space for experiments as we approach the decisive point of the season.
I expect a tight match, which may be decided by a moment of magic or a silly mistake. A 1:0 victory for wolves maybe.

Villa and palace have been in very poor form since the restart, having only picked up two and three points respectively. This is a very difficult match to predict as it's a must win for Villa, but their opponents really have nothing to gain or lose except a better finish. Possible draw and BTTS.

Tottenham vs Arsenal
Bournemouth vs Leicester

Three teams in the battle for European football and one chasing survival. I expect goals in both games, O 1.5?
