443  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [ANN] Bitcoinica Consultancy abandons customers. Bitcoinica to enter Liquidation on: August 01, 2012, 08:12:40 PM
The short version is that:

Amir, Patrick and Donald of Intersango have all made this problem MUCH MUCH WORSE by refusing to act or even reply to emails.
Because of those three, everyone who had money in Bitcoinca will receive back less money than they would have, had they been cooperative.

They should be ashamed.

He will start selling Bitcoins at major banks in Korea.

I think there is plenty of interest,  and if you plan one, LOTS of people would come.
I will likely be back again in September and see about putting something together at that time.
446  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Statement about the suspect of recent Bitcoinica hack on: July 29, 2012, 11:53:26 PM
I believe so. He handled this matter very professionally and I'm going to continue recovering the fiat money from the hackers.

Zhou,
Since the Intersango team is actively blocking the recovery process,  can we convince you to take care of the claims process as you originally offered?

You can calculate everything,  and submit the information to Tihan / Patrick Murck for verification and actual payout.

MD, any chance you're going to have HP N40L Microservers? That'd be most ideal..

I sure will.

I'm actually getting pretty close to launching my newegg.com competitor.
It will be Bitcoin only,  and competitive with newegg on just about everything.
It will have over 500,000 items available with real time inventory checks.

Here is a sneak preview:

449  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Statement about the suspect of recent Bitcoinica hack on: July 29, 2012, 03:09:23 PM
Zhou,

Please check with the hacker to see if he can return a copy of the database in addition to the stolen funds.
This would solve just about all the current difficulties.

Please help!

It is assumed that Chen Jianhai was an opportunist, due to the recent leak of source code, not part of the first group of hackers who destroyed bitcoinica.

With the way this soap opera is unfolding,  you never know.

Zhou,  please see what you can do to get a copy of the database!

In a recent email,  Zhou has promised to return 20,000 BTC and $140,000 USD from the hacker.

Myself,  Tihan Seale and several other creditors have asked that Zhou immediately transfer the funds to Patrick Murck.
Patrick Murck is an experienced attorney who has done work for Bitinstant.com and coinlabs.com
He will hold the funds until a proper method to refund them to the proper owners can be determined.

Zhou initially was asking for the Intersango team of:
Patrick Strateman
Amir Taki
Donald Norman

to verify that they are ok with Patrick Murck  holding the funds until they can be refunded to the correct owners.

I think all the creditors can agree that we would rather have the Bitinstant / Coinlabs attorney hold the funds rather than whoever has them now.
Patrick Strateman has blocked me on Skype,  and does not reply to my emails.
Donald and Amir have been out of touch for weeks.

Patrick Strateman, Amir, and Donald, for the good of the Bitcoin community tell Zhou to release the funds to Patrick Murck NOW!

This way there will be no doubt whatsoever about what should be done with the funds today.

453  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin advertising on the World Poker Tour! on: July 20, 2012, 06:17:13 AM
Just saw Moon Kim on TV, playing in a red shirt/hoodie in a World Poker Tour final table. No bitcoin logo that I could see.

I don't think it was him.
I heard that he lost on the second day.
454  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin potential value on: July 19, 2012, 05:42:14 AM
These calculations are thanks to Arthur Britto:

Amazon
Amazon grosses $38 billion per year.  Assuming a 3% transaction fee, Amazon pays $1 billion a year in transactions fees.  Amazon nets $1 billion per year.  Amazon could double their profits by doing all transactions in Bitcoin.  If the market cap for bitcoin was $38 billion, each bitcoin would be worth $5,400.

Gambling
The online poker market is $4.8 billion a year industry. Online gambling will follow poker and is a $30 billion a year industry  If the market cap for bitcoin was $30 billion, each bitcoin would be worth $4,300.
http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=1747646

Gas stations
Credit card companies charge gas stations a 2% transaction fee.  By eliminating credit card transaction fees, gas station owners could double their profits. The US consumes 65 billion gallons of gasoline per year.  At $3.60 per gallon, this could be a $234 billion dollars going through the bitcoin economy's per year. If the market cap for bitcoin was $234 billion, each bitcoin would be worth $34,400 dollars.

International Remittance
International remittance is the transfer of money by a foreign worker to their home country.  In 2007, remittance worldwide transferred $300 billion dollars.  Western Union fees for remittance can run from about 4 percent to 20 percent or more.  If the market cap for Bitcoin was $300 billion, each bitcoin would be worth $42,000.

I own www.bitcoin.ne.kr and Bitcoin.or.kr
If someone will write up a Bitcoin introduction in Korean, I would like to put it online.

Please contact me if you are willing to help.

457  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Help needed for my personal contribution to Bitcoinica customers on: July 15, 2012, 07:29:36 AM
You should pay Roger from Memory Dealers imo.

I just received my portion of the funds from Zhou.
(Thank you Zhou)

I hope whoever the real owners of Bitcoinica are, step up and show a similar amount of class.

Zhou has my respect, and I think he will go far in life.
458  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: A public plea for help regarding Bitcoinica and my 24,841 BTC on: July 15, 2012, 07:23:07 AM
Roger, I have one honest question:

After all of the hacks and stolen bitcoin stories, why would you deposit so much bitcoins with anyone?

I deposited this many Bitcoins because I have spoken with Zhou many times on skype / email about various things.
I also have spoken with Tihan on the phone for close to an hour.
Between the two of them,  I felt safe keeping my money on deposit with them.

While I do feel bad for everyone at Bitcoinica, the fact that they were hacked is not their user's problem.
I still hope that whoever is currently behind Bitcoinca will step up and do the right thing.
459  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Speaking Opportunity at Asian Gaming Conference on: July 14, 2012, 05:20:18 AM
I contacted them. Myself, Charlie, and Erik from Bitinstant will likely attend.
John,   Thank you for notifying us.
460  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: A public plea for help regarding Bitcoinica and my 24,841 BTC on: July 13, 2012, 06:38:53 PM
Can I ask you why you have such large amount of money in a third party site?

I was attracted by the high interest rates and the money I thought I could earn by depositing bitcoins with them.
I never made a single trade on Bitcoinica.
I simply held a balance and collected interest.
