441  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: What will you do when it's no longer viable to mine? on: November 07, 2013, 12:14:41 AM
The thing is, it's not viable now.  Most of us purchasing hardware will not see a ROI.  Almost all of us who are mining now are doing so past viability, by some measure.

Bytecoin beckons, and after that it's ThirdCoin.

Thanks, Doc!

DrHaribo, somewhere recently I thought I saw you post a link to the top miners on bitminter - but I can't find this link anywhere from the bitminter website.  Would you mind sharing it again?

Congratulations!  Best wishes for a lifetime of love and happiness.
446  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Return to the Testnet? on: November 06, 2013, 05:07:26 PM
Don't they reset the testnet and kill all the coins on a semi-regular basis?

They can do so at any time.  They have done so twice.  There's nothing stopping people from continuing to transact on testnet3 (the current testnet) even if they reset it, although the advantage of testnet being "built into the Bitcoin client" goes away at that point.
447  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Return to the Testnet? on: November 06, 2013, 04:07:09 PM
I'm still interested, and I have more testnet Bitcoins than any other altcoin. Smiley

Somebody just kicked us up over 250 TH/s.

It wasn't me, but I did just order more hashing power.

What's Bitminter's server time based on, which time clock?

It shows that it's the 6th already yet its still 10:00PM EST on the 5th of November.

I think most of the world runs on UTC.
450  Economy / Speculation / Re: BITSTAMP eXchange wall Observer. second biggest and best exchange on: November 05, 2013, 10:16:12 PM
Bitstamp is down?

I'd like to know that myself.  It's asking me to pass an unreadable captcha for access.  I thought at first it'd been taken over by a phishing site.

is it me or the pool hashrate is following the BTC/USD exchange rate...??

The hashrate grows every time DrH calls for more jiggawatts.
452  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Which pool are best now ? on: November 05, 2013, 08:28:07 PM
Bitminter has been a great pool to use for a long time. The customers are very quick to offer good help and advise in the pool thread on this forum, and Dr Haribo is always willing to go the extra mile to make sure everything runs smoothly.

I second that.  DrHaribo is helpful, the pool is friendly, and fun!

I agree with you on that point. But, as a 14 year old you should just 'play' a bit with these coins et cetera, but not more than that. You shouldn't really invest an huge part of your money, as - I think - you don't really understand what these investing activities mean.

Allthough I'm quite well educated, I'm glad I didn't invest - for me - huge amounts of my scarce money at that age. It's scientifically proved that kids don't see risks as we adults do. (That's the same reason why you shouldn't let a 12 year old drive a fast moped in traffic). But that's just my opinion Wink

The OP may be in a different position from me, but at 14, I didn't have significant amounts of money to invest. Smiley

DrHaribo, if I have the prepay BTC perk turned on, should I ever see any BTC in the "unconfirmed" column under account details?

You wouldn't normally see it. But it takes a few seconds for the pool to distribute funds to miners after a block is found. It also takes a few seconds after that for cash out to happen for those who are over the threshold.

Have patience, and don't stare at the screen waiting for blocks - it causes bad luck Cheesy

Ah, okay - so it was my fault!  I'll try not to be such a compulsive reloader. Smiley

But, as you are just 14, you should not concern with that. Buy toys with your money, or go play football with friends or something.

I think many 14 year olds are missing out on a lot of potential in their lives by focusing on sports and toys.  What's wrong with doing something educational with a computer that may possibly positively impact someone's bottom line down the road?  Many great entrepreneurs were getting their start around this age.

Nothing wrong with recreational activities, but there's no reason a 14 year old's life should be consumed with them, and there's no reason a 14 year old should feel like something is wrong with him if he thinks mining for bitcoin is a better use of his time than chasing a ball around with a bunch of maladjusted "peers."

jump in, diff changes now...

Yes it did, but it won't stay low for long, at this rate!

I checked immediately after the block was generated (block explorer didn't even have it yet - block 267950), so maybe that has something to do with it.

Somebody is throwing some massive hashing power at Bytecoin today:

What a orphaned day...
3 stales out of 5 consecutive blocks is not good ...

DrHaribo, can you adjust the pool luck? Smiley
460  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Mint Race #5: Win a KnC Jupiter 550 GH/s ASIC device! on: November 02, 2013, 06:35:58 PM
Today we see bibene take the lead and heretik move into third place.

In the lead now we have bibene, jassem and heretik. Incredibly none of the three are in the top 50 list! It looks like smaller miners are taking over the race. Or are the big guns just getting ready?

Maybe I actually have a chance!

Nah.

Thanks for the update, DrH.
