Could you explain what you mean by "TitGold spinoff"? What is TitGold, and of what will it be a "spin-off"? And what does spin-off mean here? I hope it's not a Titcoin clone.

Agree 100%. PoS needs to be fixed, and it is what CC is working on right now!   Regarding "plenty of time", he had personal problems for many months and just recently he was able to continue working on it again. As far as I can see, there has been constant development since then, and he's also showing up on Discord periodically.

Discord is similar to Slack, except that it is made for open communities instead of business teams. It's a chat system that has different channels for general discussion, dev discussion, wallet support etc.. It is linked in the ANN post.

It's just strange when these questions get asked over and over again, and very often I'm the one who is answering it...   It makes me wonder why people expect to be kept up to date, but don't do anything to stay up to date themselves...   I've created an FAQ some months ago when we faced similar problems, maybe I should revive it again!

During the past few weeks, I have noticed an increasing amount of newbies asking short questions, sometimes illogical or inappropriate questions (e.g. asking about details of the ICO when the coin itself did never have an ICO). This was just strange to me before, until I discovered two different accounts posting exactly the same question, including the same spelling mistake here:



As I said in this quote, I suspect that the reason someone (or a group of people) is doing this, is to build up forum profiles with a high rank over time, by doing a lot of posts that do not really add any value, and later sell them to anyone who is interested in paying for a Hero account.

Unfortunately this is difficult to detect, because these accounts rarely seem to post the same question twice, and they seem to ask questions that are pretty common in fact. But as it seems, they are sometimes posting the same content across different accounts, which adds a new level to it, as it seems ...  

I would like this problem to be addressed by the forum administration for three reasons:

• To limit the amount of unnecessary newbie questions, which are often answered by me to support the respective community. In this case of fake accounts though, it will not help anyone because the author himself is just trying to increase his rank and is probably not even reading the answer I give to him.
• In this case, I may be tempted to start ignoring questions that get asked too often by these fake accounts, which hurts the actual newbies who are trying to learn about the project, and really want to know about this common question.
• When these fakers have successfully farmed their Hero accounts and sold them to scammers, this will increase the amount of scam projects that look legit because they are run by a high-profile member. Which in turn, will have many people falling for it and getting scammed. I'm sure everyone here agrees that scams are already a huge problem here, but even more so when scams will be run by high-profile accounts.

I'm not 100% sure how these posts are built; maybe they are just copying small posts by other (legit) newbies and re-posting them on other threads. Detecting or blocking this will, unfortunately, be almost impossible.  

Any ideas for how we can deal with this problem are welcome!   Or if you find similar posts or sets of accounts that keep posting these things, share them here so we can get an idea of how these people are operating.

Oops, fake account detected!    WTH is going on here on Bitcointalk?   Newbies trying to farm high profile accounts and sell them to scammers, probably. Forum administration should have a close look at this.

As has been said several times here and on Discord, you should not try to stake until the forking problems have been solved.

Just thinking, uhm maybe it would be cool to have a cryptocurrency forum that requires a fee to register? Like $50 USD, so that spammers and idiots will have to stay out.

2) I don't know what you mean by "plug". There will be a new client update that will prevent further forking for now (and solve whatever the problem was, I'm not sure about that). It will not bring a further hardfork with it, but upgrading will still be necessary if you want to mine or forge.

Da stimme ich zu. Ich betreibe ja forging (aka. staking) nicht um Gewinn zu machen, sondern um keinen Verlust zu machen! Weil sich eben die Coin-Menge auch erhöht. Ich bezeichne es immer als "technisch bedingten Inflationsausgleich", aber keinesfalls als Gewerbe, oder (aus steuerlicher Sicht) noch schlimmer, ein Gewerbe das ich mithilfe meiner vermeintlichen Geldanlage mache.   Also aus meiner Sicht ist reines Staking (ohne nennenswerte Gegenleistung) keine Einnahme, sondern eine rein technische Erhöhung der Geldmenge, und somit auch nicht steuerlich relevant. Ich habe dies aber zugegeben noch nicht mit dem Finanzamt abgekaspert. Das wird aber auf jeden Fall noch spannend, und wenn da nicht "mining" als Einnahmequelle steht wäre das schonmal sehr hilfreich! 

To all of you who are still wondering what is going on, you should really check into Discord... most things are explained there, and CC also logged in yesterday and explained the problem and his plan to solve it.

Currently there are a lot of branches in the chain, so if your wallet and the exchange are on different forks, then they won't be able to send transactions between each other. But chances are good that your funds are not lost, as long as the private key used for receiving is safe, as it will be valid in all branches, including the one that will be selected finally.

No problem, I didn't intend to make fun of you. Your special technique of censoring that image was just too hilarious.

 

@neguinho: You are getting orphans because of the Velocity mechanism. It's normal, but on top of that, the "normal" staking is broken as well so you'll just have to wait for CC to fix it.

There are 2 types of "fork", one is the fork of a project, and one is the fork in the chain where the consensus mechanism temporarily fails. He was talking about the latter. It's just a temporary problem, all transactions that happen on the "wrong" chain will be rolled back when consensus is reached to use the other chain.

Btw. I wonder where suddenly all these people come from who assume that everything is an ICO?!   It's quite hilarious.

So, I pulled a little trick here on my system, I increased MAX_OUTBOUND_CONNECTIONS in src/net.cpp from 16 to 32, which should make the majority consensus more robust I hope.  

If you have 16 connections, and your peers are on different branches of the chain, then the probability of you branching to a wrong path may be too high with the current chaos. Increasing connections should drastically reduce this risk. (At least that's what I think ^^)

For some reason I don't get any inbound connections. Port 22448 is open.

Yobit still hasn't updated their wallet since the swap one year ago.   So they are still on the old chain that nobody uses any more.

Das wurde bestimmt schonmal irgendwo beantwortet, aber bleiben die per API importierten Daten bestehen, wenn die Handelsplattform dicht macht oder Daten löscht? Das wird nämlich bald bei Novaexchange der Fall sein, die wollen nächstes Jahr alles löschen und von vorne anfangen. Ich brauche diese Daten aber auf jeden Fall sicher für meine nächste Steuerberechnung.

Großes Lob übrigens für die vielen neuen API-Imports!  Das macht wirklich Spaß so.

Edit: Oh und es wäre toll, wenn Espers (ESP) zu den Altcoin-Imports hinzugefügt werden könnte!
