461  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / The Pious Order Building on: December 23, 2014, 06:48:33 AM
Good things come in three

The Pious Order building is a three-storey high building, with three entrances, one to each floor, one for each tier (apprentice, companion, master). Each floor has several rooms, including a common room for discussion and drinking - Church beer on the first floor, wine on the second and cognac on the third. There are also two gardens: an interior garden accessible through the second floor and a roof garden accessible from the third floor. Also, several rooms on the Pious Order will have the name of the benevolent donator who wishes to show their commitment and be remembered for generations.

It is important to note that holding a level from a tier (or two!) above your own level (and thus be granted access to a litterally higher level, to discuss with a higher crowd) would probably help you ascending the social ladder faster - be it a newcomer willing to boost his reputation or a wealthy merchant entertaining to be ennobled. Of course, nothing is guaranteed but rubbing shoulders with the great and goods certainly helps.

The actual design will be posted later.
462  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Pious Order of the Supplicants on: December 23, 2014, 06:38:01 AM
At long last! The Pious Order
A stake-o-cratic fund for the Church
For the centennial of the building of Notre-Dame Cathedral*, we, Bishop of Crypto-Kingdom, open the registration for the Pious Order of the Supplicant (read In hoc signo vinces).
The Pious Order, as originally envisionned, "will comprise any donators to the Church". A building will be found next to the Church office, a magnificent building already designed (and detailled in next post). The Pious Order will gather there for meetings, socializing, networking and developing ideas to further develop the Church and its impact on the kingdom.

The Pious Order will also initiate a much more resilient way to finance ecclesiastical buildings and projects: instead of relying on one wealthy individual (yours truly) for the bulk of spending, buildings and projects will be funded by Pious Order members. If the necessary amount is not reached, then the building or project will not start, or at least not as envisionned.

Such a model will allow the Church to significantly expand its operations as crypto-kingdom expands. Not only it will allow the Church to keep its importance, but it will allows it to further increase the presence of the Almighty in our beloved kingdom.

The Pious Order will comprise 33 levels, grouped into 3 tiers: apprentice, companion and master. Leveks can be bought or can be earned - the higher the level, the harder it is to just buy it.

It is the duty of any believer to donate to the Church according to its means. For the lowest of beggars, 1 monereto is as valuable as several millions are to a wealthy merchant. Both gave according to their possibilities and our Lord remembers this when the time for leaving this imperfect world has come. Secure your afterlife and donate (out of game: people who donate will have some nice bonuses for their next character, once this one dies, which will happen in future version, once dying of old age is implemented).

We wish the Pious Order to be tantamount to communion. As such, the exact working of the Pious Order shall be discussed with you, right now. And as God forgives, the Pious Order will correct himself when it is due to be corrected (out of game: collaborative design and the decisions are not set in stone).

Donation amounts
Below are the proposed donation amounts for each level - keep in mind that we must find the balance between a fair donation and generating enough income to deliver the projects of the Church

Newcomers, established commoners and nobles shall all have access to the Pious order - and it must mean something to them financially, if not they will just pay and forget - there must be some ROI expectation here which will encourage the Pious Order to be something, so the price shall not be negligible, whilst still affordable and this, for everyone.
The latest consideration is this:
Start at the symbolic 1 monereto. Each subsequent level is triple the previous one for the first tier, a quarter higher for the second tier and 10% for the third tier. We expect this to be affordable-yet-noticeable for each targeted group.
It is possible to patron the Church (give one large amount). In concrete terms, this give the specified level for 10 years for only 5 times the cost. Finally, a Grand Patron can obtain a lifetime membership for 20 times the yearly membership - with an expected life expectancy of 60 years, this means a even better discount than the regular patronage. Lifetime membership won't be available before dying of old age is implemented and are not transferable. Thus, a son cannot benefit from the lifetime membership of his parent, although an additional discount might be implemented - but this would encourage concentration of wealth so not sure it will be implemented.
I hesitate between the exact and rounded amounts. Rounded are easier to grasp, but harder to maintain and do not follow a predictable scheme (since they are rounded). I let you decide. Any donation above a level and minus the next level is not counted for membership. For instance, giving 60K moneretoj instead of the required 59049 doesn't give anything in particular; for all matter and purposes, they are "wasted" (although who cares about wasting that few?)
Some honorary levels will be available and it will also be possible to gain a certain level for free for a certain time, as a reward for great actions.
The higher the level, the more influence one will have over the decisions of the Church, in a weighted voting way similar to an otherwordly organisation known as MEW.

To be an Esteemed building, it must gather popular support. To be Most Esteemed, a minimum age of 50 years applies, plus popular vote. The ratio (most esteemed:esteemed) is 1:5. Very Esteemed must be 100 years old and win the vote.
There are 6 Esteemed buildings and 1 Most Esteemed building. Assuming a building cannot be degraded, then it appears that in order to get some more most esteemed building, we must first have 4 more esteemed building.

I would vote for the Cathedral and the Obelisk (in that order) to be Most Esteemed, but we shall first promote four buildings to Esteemed. Could someone list 50 years-old building that could be voted? A public list would benefit anyone.

After much discussion and such, it is take to vote on emission curve. This is ONLY for MEW members (you can apply if you want). For technical reasons, you can access the link without being a MEW member but your vote will not be taken into consideration. Also, discussions on this thread will be moved to the dicussion thread or deleted

XMR emission, actual voting

I can still make some changes on the wording (or the closing date) if you want - but the options for voting are not negotiable anymore.

Is cryptofiat coming to Ecuador? Technically, no. Functionally, looks fairly close: Ecuador embraces electronic money, misses the whole point.

Why did the price of Monero go down do importantly ?
That is an indication of people losing interest in XMR. Less development could be the result.
The development continues as usual, neither faster, nor slower EXCEPT that this is the end of the year so until beginning of January, progress will probably be slower.

Inflation kill that coin, so obviously.
The price fell 75% since the discussions about emission curve. So if inflation was the issue, it would mean the curve shall be four times slower just to accomodate. I don't believe the "emission curve" argument matters at this level of depreciation. Monero is long term and trading is short term. Simple as that.

Painting of Church Youth Center from East side, with hanging gardens on the roof.

Lord Saddam ponders this painting and marvels at its greatness. Having spent several hours himself designing his castle in 2D, the added dimension pleases Saddam very much.

It is indeed a marvel!  The skill of the architect is great and wondrous.
Might it benefit from doors leading to the front two gardens or are these not depicted?  The Top floor seems to have a door that leads to a drop of one storey.  Though it may simply be an artifact of the view.
We chose Signore Mortiginto as the official Church's architect for a reason.
Doors are on the right side (and are not depicted). The center "hole" is meant as a sort of well of light. The reaso why it is not at the center is explained in the introductory post: more flexibility for giant rooms

If this is not already planned, I suggest (for the online version) that every PC has a list of promotions and medals showing the next one that can be unlocked, to incentivise players to get them. So basically, every promotions and medals would be visible except the one that requires a promotion or medal that the PC doesn't have yet. I hope I am clear.

Ouch, I never noticed for S4C :/
I update https://bit.ly/hypsize. More complex and more accurate. An excerpt:

What is the best block size?
  • Safe and simple: 1600
  • Safe and optimized: 1622.222222
  • Balanced: 3500
  • If you care about not hitting the wall: 1622.222222 (extremely unlucky) - 5574.646811 (extremely lucky)
  • Fast staking, no compromise: have only one block (probably huge waste of coins and not recommended because it strongly decreases network security)
  • Fast staking, optimised: look for the biggest weight in the network and create blocks which will be slightly heavier at min age (you will still waste a noticeable reward, you expect to make up by coumpounding faster) - see below for weight calculation
478  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HYP] HyperStake | 750% PoS | Most Advanced Coin Control Wallet | 6 Themes on: December 17, 2014, 06:47:42 PM
That being said:
  • Moving from 8.73-30 to 5-15, I don't see the point (it would encourage larger blocks, to stake faster, I fail to see the use of it). What did I miss?
  • I believe that eliminating max age would actually help small miners since they would not have a 30-day countdown to stake (and it would also mean more blocks to stake). I understand this would increase difficulty, but I don't think that preventing such increase would do any difference for holders, since it is more difficult for everyone. If impatience is the issue, then HyperPool should lower the variance, like poolmining does for PoW. Plus, I never understood the rational behind max age

I hope it clarified things. Could you explain what is the reason for max age?

1) I meant extending the max age another 5-15 days. So opening the max up to be maybe 35-45 days.
2) This is detrimental to security of the network because an attack can be launched with a smaller amount of coins.

Also just a reminder that:
weight = block size * (days old - (1/6))
Thanks for the formula, I added it to the wiki

I understand better your max age extension. I'm not particularly a fan of extending (I used to be favourable of eliminating max age, but after a discussion on IRC with moneromoo I believe and now with your answer, I'm OK to not eliminate it). Extending max age, will just postpone the inevitable, send wrong message/confuse people and would set up a precedent about something I can't really justify.

Bottom-line: let's not touch a thing here.

A sampling of 6 blocks does very little to prove anything, let me share my wonderful little world of block experimentation to help the cause.

I think we could open up the max age to accumulate weight by 5-15 days or so without much compromise to security... but don't be fooled, this will not increase security, it will simply allow smaller blocks to have more time to gain weight in order to catch up to the bigger blocks staking. It is less secure, because you would be able to gain more weight with less coins, and as in PoS weight is hash power... well do the math.

The other proposal of eliminating weight altogether is a flawed approach. This means taking power away from the small user and consolidating it to the big user. Smaller blocks don't gain weight, so essentially would be nearly dead on arrival. You can see above that I have decent results with blocks as small as 778.

I believe that we should not be anxious to find ways to fork HYP into a newly styled coin, but instead to carefully consider, craft, and weigh the pros and cons of changing the underlying code further from its peercoin ancestor. Any fork that occurs should have precise reasoning, that either strengthens security, or adds equality in a manner that doesn't compromise much security.
I'm afraid I've been misunderstood here:
  • My listing is not a sample, but a reminder of the size-data-weight correspondances, so the number of value I am giving doesn't matter
  • I do not promote hard fork, I merely mention when a change would imply a hard fork
  • I do not propose to eliminate weight, but max age (and it is not a proposition yet, just an investigation because I want to be sure of what I am saying before I propose something)
