1532 The Centennary Anniversary of the Throne Room of His Majesty

Promotions in Nobility

Dame Roopatra is created Countess.
"Without the uninterrupted dedication by The Countess, AOK-S, our gameworld would be much poorer and, in fact, the administration under serious difficulty. It also has to be acknowledged that she has never invested a monereto into the game, all her fortunes are made ingame only, to the example of the future players, and fulfilling the motto of the School that His Majesty attended in his youth: 'Labor Improbus Omnia Vincit' was engraved in gold in e=14. In addition to the King, the school was the place of learning for The President of the Republic of Finland, J-K Paasikivi, a great many years before His Majesty."

Lord Luigi is created Earl. "The Earl is one of the premier businessmen in town, with the beneficial holdings of more land in the 1-C than any other character (save HM and Town). His empire extends to trading, quarrying, retail, and hotel businesses, and now - also the fief in a distant county of XX."

Congrats Roopatra, you no doubt deserve this!

I am most honored as well. If it is found acceptable, I shall be the Earl of Rome.

Information about Smooth Investment Fund

I've received a few questions about Smooth Investment Fund.

Answers:

1. The IPO price is 1m per share

2. The number of shares is unspecified. We are currently at approximately 1200 shares.

3. Investments may be made in cash (moneritos) or assets. Assets will be valued at their midprice in order to calculate shares. Market makers are not eligible to invest their own assets, and if I feel the asset price is being manipulated, I may refuse the investment (you are welcome to invest cash though).

4. The investment fund will use the cash generated by the IPO to buy assets.

5. Assets used to purchase shares in the IPO may be held by the fund, or sold to purchase other assets

6. The management fee is charged on price appreciation only, only once (if the price doubles, then halves, then doubles again, you are only changed the fee once), and only when a share offering or redemption (buy back) occurs. No fee is charged in connection with secondary market trading (you can sell your shares at a profit and pay no fee, though the buyer may eventually be charged a fee). Distributed dividends are not charged a fee.

Tourism proliferates (again)

The growth rate of tourism (mechanism: money transferred yearly from Town to Services to illustrate the "export of services") is simply astounding. It used to be 50 million per 2 years when the time was halved 10 years ago; now it has climbed to 50 million per year!

The list of esteemed buildings needs to be updated. Soon the owners of these buildings will also benefit (services pool) from the listing!

Currently

Very esteemed
(none)

Most esteemed
The Royal Palace, 1432-1446

Esteemed
The Golden Obelisk 1430
The Cathedral 1432
The Citadel 1452-u/c
The Town Hall 1454
The Grand Hotel 1464
The Noble Palace 1480

To be an Esteemed building, it must gather popular support. To be Most Esteemed, a minimum age of 50 years applies, plus popular vote. The ratio (most esteemed:esteemed) is 1:5. Very Esteemed must be 100 years old and win the vote.

All the buildings are now candidates to be Esteemed. 2 new ones will be chosen. In addition, one of the existing Esteemed ones will be promoted. Voting is open in the thread! Smiley

Esteemed building to Most Esteemed = The Noble Palace 1480

New Esteemed = The House of Royal Magnificence 1530
                        The 100 Jubilee Theatre 1504

The Noble Palace 1480

For Most Esteemed I vote The Golden Obelisk. It has been standing at the center of the Old Town for over a 100 years. It reminds me of the beginnings of the Kingdom when there wasn´t much else except the Obelisk standing in the middle of the square, and it has witnessed all the progress and growth that has happened since those times.

For new esteemed buildings I vote:

Edit:  After some thought - I too am surprised the Obelisk is not most esteemed and change my vote to it.

I vote for it to be added to the Most esteemed.

How is The Obelisk not yet "Most Esteemed"?
Every day when the weather is good we see limners and portraiture artists rendering it as the background for those grand paintings we each hang over our mantles and in our galleries.
This landmark is the most recognizable meeting spot in the Kingdom, its great square a magnificent platform for mummers and players plying their craft for their daily monerito along with mendicant musicians and jesters.  It seems this golden spire has some strange magnetic attraction for talents.  And how often have we heard young lovers planning their first kiss to be in its shadow in order to have the best of luck?  It is said through out the lands that things which begin there will be prosperous.

It is certainly the Most Esteemed Obelisk, predating even HM's own palace and the Cathedral (both of which also ought be in consideration for VERY esteemed being 100 years since first foundation).

The Earl of Soul's new cloud touching embassy also has my esteem.

There are 6 Esteemed buildings and 1 Most Esteemed building. Assuming a building cannot be degraded, then it appears that in order to get some more most esteemed building, we must first have 4 more esteemed building.

I would vote for the Cathedral and the Obelisk (in that order) to be Most Esteemed, but we shall first promote four buildings to Esteemed. Could someone list 50 years-old building that could be voted? A public list would benefit anyone.

At long last! The Pious Order
A stake-o-cratic fund for the Church
For the centennial of the building of Notre-Dame Cathedral*, we, Bishop of Crypto-Kingdom, open the registration for the Pious Order of the Supplicant (read In hoc signo vinces).
The Pious Order, as originally envisionned, "will comprise any donators to the Church". A building will be found next to the Church office, a magnificent building already designed (and detailled in next post). The Pious Order will gather there for meetings, socializing, networking and developing ideas to further develop the Church and its impact on the kingdom.

The Pious Order will also initiate a much more resilient way to finance ecclesiastical buildings and projects: instead of relying on one wealthy individual (yours truly) for the bulk of spending, buildings and projects will be funded by Pious Order members. If the necessary amount is not reached, then the building or project will not start, or at least not as envisionned.

Such a model will allow the Church to significantly expand its operations as crypto-kingdom expands. Not only it will allow the Church to keep its importance, but it will allows it to further increase the presence of the Almighty in our beloved kingdom.

The Pious Order will comprise 33 levels, grouped into 3 tiers: apprentice, companion and master. Leveks can be bought or can be earned - the higher the level, the harder it is to just buy it.

It is the duty of any believer to donate to the Church according to its means. For the lowest of beggars, 1 monereto is as valuable as several millions are to a wealthy merchant. Both gave according to their possibilities and our Lord remembers this when the time for leaving this imperfect world has come. Secure your afterlife and donate (out of game: people who donate will have some nice bonuses for their next character, once this one dies, which will happen in future version, once dying of old age is implemented).

We wish the Pious Order to be tantamount to communion. As such, the exact working of the Pious Order shall be discussed with you, right now. And as God forgives, the Pious Order will correct himself when it is due to be corrected (out of game: collaborative design and the decisions are not set in stone).

Donation amounts
Below are the proposed donation amounts for each level - keep in mind that we must find the balance between a fair donation and generating enough income to deliver the projects of the Church

Newcomers, established commoners and nobles shall all have access to the Pious order - and it must mean something to them financially, if not they will just pay and forget - there must be some ROI expectation here which will encourage the Pious Order to be something, so the price shall not be negligible, whilst still affordable and this, for everyone.
The latest consideration is this:
Start at the symbolic 1 monereto. Each subsequent level is triple the previous one for the first tier, a quarter higher for the second tier and 10% for the third tier. We expect this to be affordable-yet-noticeable for each targeted group.
It is possible to patron the Church (give one large amount). In concrete terms, this give the specified level for 10 years for only 5 times the cost. Finally, a Grand Patron can obtain a lifetime membership for 20 times the yearly membership - with an expected life expectancy of 60 years, this means a even better discount than the regular patronage. Lifetime membership won't be available before dying of old age is implemented and are not transferable. Thus, a son cannot benefit from the lifetime membership of his parent, although an additional discount might be implemented - but this would encourage concentration of wealth so not sure it will be implemented.
I hesitate between the exact and rounded amounts. Rounded are easier to grasp, but harder to maintain and do not follow a predictable scheme (since they are rounded). I let you decide. Any donation above a level and minus the next level is not counted for membership. For instance, giving 60K moneretoj instead of the required 59049 doesn't give anything in particular; for all matter and purposes, they are "wasted" (although who cares about wasting that few?)
Some honorary levels will be available and it will also be possible to gain a certain level for free for a certain time, as a reward for great actions.
The higher the level, the more influence one will have over the decisions of the Church, in a weighted voting way similar to an otherwordly organisation known as MEW.

The state of the art is:

So, once again, please react. Amounts to high, to low? At wich levels? Some suggestions how to improve it, more incentives for donation?

Good things come in three

The Pious Order building is a three-storey high building, with three entrances, one to each floor, one for each tier (apprentice, companion, master). Each floor has several rooms, including a common room for discussion and drinking - Church beer on the first floor, wine on the second and cognac on the third. There are also two gardens: an interior garden accessible through the second floor and a roof garden accessible from the third floor. Also, several rooms on the Pious Order will have the name of the benevolent donator who wishes to show their commitment and be remembered for generations.

It is important to note that holding a level from a tier (or two!) above your own level (and thus be granted access to a litterally higher level, to discuss with a higher crowd) would probably help you ascending the social ladder faster - be it a newcomer willing to boost his reputation or a wealthy merchant entertaining to be ennobled. Of course, nothing is guaranteed but rubbing shoulders with the great and goods certainly helps.

The actual design will be posted later.

Esteemed building (that can be voted without nomination) need not be 50 years old.

Most esteemed building need to be an Esteemed building already + 50 years old.

So the list is for inspiration only, even the newer buildings that have esteem, can be voted and chosen Esteemed.

King's vote:
Hokusai Art Gallery
House of the Royal Magnificence => for Esteemed

Cathedral = for Most Esteemed

Zechariah's vote:
Theatre
House of the Royal Magnificence => for Esteemed

Grand Hotel => for Most Esteemed
