463  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mining Bitcoin at a nuclear power station in Ukraine on: August 23, 2019, 02:47:24 PM
I found an article about this case on a local news portal, but now I see that there's information about it in English as well. Some people were using a Nuclear power station to mine Bitcoin in Ukraine. It is likely that the guarding personnel was also involved in the process. The investigation is not over yet. A link to read more: https://bitnewsbot.com/atomic-wealth-cryptocurrency-mining-operation-foiled-at-ukrainian-nuclear-plant-report/.
It's nice that people used clean energy to mine Bitcoin, I guess, but also sad that people keep trying to profit by cheating and using the resources that don't belong to them.

First, nuclear energy is not clean energy. It may have no carbon emission but it is regularly releasing radiation which is toxic. The possible risks to human health and life if a radiation leak occurs from nuclear power plants are very deadly.

This is not the first time I read of an illegally concealed crypto mining. I guess this is brought by the very high cost of crypto mining especially Bitcoin. Some are attracted to it but do not have the means, prompting them to use resources that are not theirs. Let's see how the investigation ends.

With the sudden 700+ Point plunge of the Dow Jones and China's sudden devaluation of the Yuan what are some aspects of interest do you have that might reflect upon the current and the future of the Digital Currency Market?

Well, experts, at least those who are open to Bitcoin, have considered these developments as generally positive for the crypto market. For one, we are not affected by all these, with the values of crypto or Bitcoin moving quite independently from these conventional markets. And since investors will have to find a place where they could safely park their investments during these turbulent times, Bitcoin or crypto must be on top of their list.
467  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: what is happening now? on: August 11, 2019, 02:17:55 AM
hello friend,
in 2017 I was very happy when I saw the price of Bitcoin increase in coinmarketcap because when the price of Bitcoin increases, then the price of Altcoin will immediately increase too, but for now when the price of Bitcoin increases and it does not affect for the prices of Altcoin (even still down), then when the price of Bitcoin goes down and at that time the price of Altcoin will go down too, so I do not understand the current state of the market and what is happening right now.

Do not dwell on the 2017 bull pump too much. It seems to have become the only basis for the rest of the increases and decreases of prices. It was a single instance that might not have anything to do with the succeeding changes in price. If you are going to wait for a 2017-like bull pump, you'll soon grow frustrated. The state of the market has been very normal these days. There is no sudden drop. This is good enough already.

469  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Buying stable coins is a goog or a bad idea? on: August 10, 2019, 02:47:04 AM
After reading this article https://changelly.com/blog/stablecoins-an-idiom-of-stability-in-crypto-space/ I started to think about purchasing stable coins. What's your opinion about that? Is it a good or a bad idea?

What are you buying stablecoins for? Stablecoins do not have much use, except if it is accepted as a payment in your place. Other than that, it will only serve as an option for traders to avoid getting caught by a poor performance of the market. Stablecoins do not grow much in value. People are mostly trading stablecoins because of what it is built for, stability.
470  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why do we need anonymity? on: August 10, 2019, 02:16:47 AM
You are making things too complicated and suffer a headache out of it. You are creating a big problem out of nothing and then worry about it too much.

What has Bitcoin anonymity got to do with torturing dogs and kids? My god! Are you one of the victims? For your information, the anonymity that Bitcoin has as a feature refers to transactions. Transactions on the Bitcoin blockchain do not bear any personal information of the parties involved.

And talking of transparency, it is also what the blockchain is very proud of. Everything could be verified by anyone. It is open to all, each and every single transaction is public.
471  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Sats rather than Bitcoin - will it cause a price pump? on: August 09, 2019, 03:27:50 AM
I also prefer to use Sat/s or the full version Satoshi/s. There will certainly come a time when the ones who will use BTC are the rich ones, talking about huge amounts and transactions, while those who are at the lower level will be talking about Sats. Moreover, if the adoption will reach its peak and people are already buying small stuff and daily needs in BTC, for sure it will be about Sats, say 10K Sats or 15K Sats. In fact, it is already coming handy these days, rather than saying 0.001 BTC or the confusing 1 mBTC.

473  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Serious question about Bitcoin. Is it a reliable and stable investment? on: August 08, 2019, 02:52:52 AM
Bitcoin is reliable in the term that you mentioned, that is, 5 to 10 years. If you lower that in say 1 or 2 years, it may not be. It may experience a serious dump and need a year or two to fully recover. In terms of stability, I'm afraid Bitcoin does not have that character. But again, in the next 5 to 10 years, I am sure you will already see a considerable growth of your investment value.

Whether it could fall again to $9,000 or $3,500, the possibility in this unpredictable market is unlimited so it could. We just hope it won't. And if worse comes to worse and it indeed falls on these prices, just be patient and hodl.
474  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin Save Investors? on: August 08, 2019, 02:19:44 AM
Recession indicators in the U.S. bond market just flashed their deepest warning signals since the period that led up to the 2008 financial crisis. Can bitcoin work as a safe haven and protect investors in the event of a U.S. recession?

https://bitcoinist.com/inverted-yield-curve-signals-u-s-recession-can-bitcoin-save-investors/

It has been proven time and again that the value of Bitcoin does not have a correlation to the values of bonds and stocks and fiat. With this, I think it is very much possible that investors will sort of hide their money into Bitcoin if the bond market will face another huge financial crisis like the one that happened in 2008. The track record of Bitcoin may show some bad days but it does not behave the way the traditional market does.

476  Economy / Economics / Re: The Risks and Rewards of Cryptocurrencies on: August 07, 2019, 03:12:12 AM
The volatility of cryptocurrency will remain as long as a small number of people or groups hold large numbers of cryptocurrencies they can manipulate the market and actually some people form groups to manipulate the market and to make their group profitable they offer paid memberships to gain access on what coins they are going to pump.

I have been invited to these group's channels before, they usually pick people around here who are interested and post a lot in speculations, trading and altcoins sections.
Volatility is really going to be a temporary thing and will be a thing of the past in some decades to come, those whales  cannot continue to hold the coin forever, with time, they will also gradually get rid of those coins because they would need some financial commitment at a certain time.

Don’t forget that bitcoin has a limited supply, the more the supply closes up, the more bitcoin value will appreciate and to the point where it will become more expensive, as they keep using and manipulating there market, the supply gap will keep closing up and they will have less coin to manipulate the market with and to buy back will also become difficult because the amount that would be involved to purchase one bitcoin then would be a luxury for them to really afford.

But will we ever live to see that day?

Anyway, we could also look at it this way. If the whales have accumulated hundreds of thousands of Bitcoin when the price was cheap and the value of Bitcoin has already reached $100,000 per BTC, wouldn't it be a lot easier for them to manipulate the market? Time will definitely come that BTC will reach that price. When that happens, instead of manipulating the market with at least 50,000 BTC, they might just be able to do a huge influence already in the market with just 10,000 BTC because that is already equivalent to a very significant amount.
477  Economy / Economics / Re: What are the benefits of bitcoin to my country (Nigeria) economy?. on: August 07, 2019, 02:41:00 AM
In general, I have to say that Bitcoin is not here, and by design, to help any country to gain progress in their economy.
<...>
In terms of remittance, of less or even zero tax transactions, of fast dealings, and so on.

Thanks for the input, so in other worlds bitcoin technically, wasn't created to benefit any country's economy instead it was created to benefit (best interest of) the common man i.e citizens of a nation who welcomes the currency. If that's so then why is the community engaging in promoting bitcoin as some economy savior and pushing for the government (which this currency wouldn't benefit) to recognize it as a world currency.

Let us take it with its face value. The Bitcoin community is promoting Bitcoin because we believe in it as the best form of currency in the world. It represents freedom to us. It is not inflationary. It has proven to be fully independent from the movements of the prices of stocks, foreign currencies, GDP and GNP, gold, etc. But I guess we are not promoting it as a country's economic savior. We are promoting it as the best payment method for the people.

However, if the government is open enough to adopt the use of Bitcoin then it will have to regulate its use in order for Bitcoin transactions to be fully legal and therefore appropriately taxed. So in a way they are benefiting from it but certainly not as a savior of their economy.
478  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will China Accept Bitcoin As A Currency? on: August 07, 2019, 02:09:34 AM
I highly doubt that. China wants everything to be made in china. Have you noticed that almost all technologies coming from other parts of the world are either replicated or become bases for chinese versions of their own products? Bitcoin may be allowed as far as it is an asset or a property. But most probably only up to that. China is busy developing their own version of cryptocurrency right now. Because of that, cryptocurrency will be allowed in china in the near future but it will only be their national digital currency. This country is rather selfish.

480  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Only a Crime Tool on: August 06, 2019, 04:38:50 AM
The amount of news on hacking, money laundering, drug trafficking and others that involve cryptocurrency or bitcoin seems to never run out. has become a natural law there are always two sides to this life. There is a right there left, there is a good one that is bad. so also in the world of crypto, bitcoin and others. But we must agree together that all return to their own people, want to use it all for good or evil. So there is no side of crime in bitcoin, because bitcoin is just a tool used. The evil is the human mind that directs it.

In the same manner that a knife could be used both for slicing stuff in the kitchen and slashing someone's throat. I share your perspective on this. Bitcoin is invented for all the beautiful purposes Satoshi had in mind. But it does not mean that it could not be used in a negative way. Just as fiat and gold, it could also be used by the bad people in financing or as payment of illegal goods and services. At the end of the day even as helpful to life as a medicine could also be used to take it away.
