I would most likely do 3000 hash  on bit-name and 3000 hash on lite.

The problem I have is simple I can't get an avalon now that it is  6 or 7 thousand usd.
I have BFL gear on order who know how long that will take. My 6000 hash is what I have for now. In the form of 11 gpus 8x 7970's 2x 7950's 1x 7990. about 2400 watts an hour.

The max I had was 8000 hash. or 16 Gpus.  about 3000 watts an hour
16 gpus will be too hard to run in the warm months.

I have spent 5 days trying to get lite coins to run  it has been a no go. The lite coins would give more flexibility.  oh coins are now over 83 usd!

need to change luck.  maybe 18 minutes to go for a block. fingers crossed

first thanks for fast down time. second thanks for the namecoins they are now worth more due to the bit coin rise. 555 name coins = 1 btc or 75 dollars.  I mine 5 to 6 a day . so every 100 days that is about 75 bucks close to 250-300 a year.  LTC would help.

I have 11 gpus

8x 7970
2x 7950
1x 7990.

I live in New Jersey  and we have had a cold March but May or June  I will need to use Air Conditioning  and the asics may really drop. LTC will help me.  I have 2x  Jalapenos  on order but getting asics is not easy.  I do not want to get squeezed out.

1)without mining as a driving engine bitcoins would die off. so we need miners.

2) gpus will soon be too slow and too power hungry. (of course if you have free power they will still make money)

3) litecoins may be the new coin for gpus.

 I have 8 hd7970's 2 7950's and 1 hd7990 .

I hash at 6000  I am going to have to sell my gpus or use them for  litecoins.
I like this pool and I hope the doctor would make a litecoin section so I don't have to put a boat load of gpus for sale on eaby.

As for asics  you should get a jalapeno from butterfly labs as it is only 163 usd shipped it is small and quiet and you will need to wait til july if you buy it today.

Woot seems like luck is on our side today.

over a 72 hour period  we made 23 blocks one was a stale.

spilt  it in about half and the first 36 hours 4 good blocks 1 stale .

the last 36 hours 18 good blocks.   rough but close estimate.

YES THE ASIC IS NICE.

we just minted a block that says external what is this?  never mind it dropped off now it says

225544   2013-03-12 21:07     27m     705,113   4,367,876   14.9%   1,856.798   BTC   carpo446   119 left

my guess is that external only shows for a minute

well we just did 3 blocks;
so 14 hours 0 block  stale
 8 hours       1  block  good
2 hours        1  block  good
0 min!!        1 block   good

right now the network is at  24Th  vs  43 Th   right before the fork.  I suggest cranking our gear up . It may be the asic gear is not working due to something about the fork.

is the site down?

lite coin support would be nice I would not have to sell all my  gpus.  March 1 to march 7 = 36 blocks of  coins  1 stale that is 35 blocks in 7 days.   really tough patch.  1.5Th should be better then 5 blocks a day more like 7 if my math is good. so we should have 49 blocks over the last 7 days.     we have had good times so let us hope they come back again.

yeah really bad luck it has become annoying.

okay i am like you in that i sell my coins as they come it. mentally the idea of holding on to them is something I was  not able to do.

you mention  an offline usb stick for storage  how would i do this?  tia phil
Just buy some cheap USB flash drive, stick it in a USB slot, set data directory to that drive via datadir=F:\bitcoin (or whatever) in bitcoin.conf, download blockchain, then take it out...

or, better yet, just make a wallet.dat on this flash drive with some address, and then send all your bitcoins to one of those addresses when you get some.  then you never even have to put the USB stick (and thus the wallet w/ all the coins) in your computer until needed (though in such a case I'd put it on at least 3 sticks if it had a decent chunk of coins on it)

you can usually find some decent ones on slickdeals for $5 or less.

like:

(all dead now, but i'm sure there'll be another good one within a couple days)

or if you still have a 1.44 floppy drive or something.
THANKS I will play with it.  I would not mind holding 25  or 50 coins in a safe place.

Phew. We (and half the internet) are back. I hope this is a rare occurrence with CloudFlare.

Edit: That's a lot of websites that went offline:

I slept through it all! I was lucky my hash dropped from 6Gh to 4Gh now back to 6Gh. I did not have to do a thing!

it is back up.

https://walletbit.com/

one of the reasons I always sell my coins is fear of storage.. i have earned 250 plus coins but never held more then 10 or 12 at a time.

On one hand I would have liked holding them all, but  on my other hand if I had 250 plus coins in walletbit for the 20 plus hours it was down I would freak.

yeah they are an usa online wallet company.

I just converted all my coins (7) last night from wallet.bit to fastcash to paypal. I have always held coins less then a week. So it is not like I have a lot of coins in the wallet. So if they have a big problem I am lucky in that I have under .5 coins in the account.

My method is earn 4 to 8 coins then cash them into paypal or an amazon gift card.
