45161  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: How does a new person break into bitcoin mining? on: August 30, 2013, 12:49:44 PM
I am curious about opinions.

Just say you have a person today that wants to start bitcoin mining. How do they start and be able to at least ROI their investment? Just curious about what your plan would be.

No one  can give  real chance of ROI  as a certainty.. But I would tell the buyer if he has BTC buy a new blade from Canaryinthemine cost is 4btc plus shipping. so about 500 usd. set it up to a low powered piece of gear. use a simple pool like bitminer.  If you have the other gear the investment would be under 600 usd. you may or may not make roi.

If 600 usd is high for a new guy and if you do not have any btc.  Go on ebay there are very good sellers with 10 year 1000 plus perfect feedback selling the usb sticks.(a shameless plug about myself)   One guy sells a 3 pack for 102usd in hand .  another seller sells 1 stick for 34 usd  .  And the prices have dropped a lot on ebay.

or buy a 6 stick kit with a quality hub and fan for about 260.  (shameless plug again)

you won't get your money back with the kit but you will get in the game.

at 65 mill diff the kit would earn .0154 coins a day or .154 coins in 10 days
at 75 mill diff the kit would earn .0133 coins a day or .133 coins in 10 days
at 85 mill diff the kit would earn .0118 coins a day or .118 coins in 10 days

at 285 mill diff the kit would earn .0035 coins a day or .035 coins in 10 days   about 4.20 usd in 10 days and 1-2 spent in power

you would spend about 1-2 usd  for 10  days on power.

So at todays numbers of 65 mill diff sticks look good

at future numbers of 285 mill diff sticks do not look good.

I think diff will will not  shoot up to the 200 mill  fast like by sept 30.  we are at 65 going on 75 right now. going to 200 in 30 days is no way going to happen

your are correct that ups with battery would only work for about 4-6 hours for one unit.  So in a long blackout (think hurricane sandy)  we could be down a week.

I lost power in NJ on and off a total of 3 out of 17 days after sandy and I was lucky compared to many.  One thing I always had was the net. But next big storm who knows.  with amateur hosting two or  3rigs could be moved to a backup (hoster) in a big storm power outage.

yeah I had all the pcs for gpu mining.  I have been selling it off on ebay.  But I still have a lot of parts.

I have this ups

with this extended battery

I prefer amatuer  and like I said I will supply all kinds of parts. PSU's  ram and if the hoster (not me) is close I will drive the gear to his place..  I also have this

 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Eaton-103003275-6591-Powerware-PW5115-RM-1500-1440VA-Rack-mountable-UPS-/281151564757?pt=US_Uninterruptible_Power_Supplies&hash=item4175f06bd5

or the equal to it.   so between the psu's and the eaton ups it would not fail so easily. I will check the exact make and models of the eaton.

For a 0.335 GH/s device to recover 0.17BTC with only a 20% diff each change ... it would take ... 190 Days
... at 1000 days it is ... 0.17936377 BTC (so pretty much never reach 0.18 BTC)

If on the other hand it was 30% diff each change ... at 500 days it will have generated ... 0.11957525 BTC ... 1000 days ... 0.11957587 BTC ... so it would never reach 0.12BTC ... of course 0.5W isn't free either ... especially after 1000 days ...
http://www.tradebtc.net/bitcalc.php

Edit: for a 10GH/s device at 20% increase each change, it would take 89 days to get 4BTC
at 30% increase it would ... 500 days 3.56940335 BTC ... 1000 days 3.56942180 BTC ... so never reach 3.6 BTC
But the electricity is pretty relevant also ...

Yes many people buying AsicMiner hardware will not get their many back ...

yeah and if it is 10% you will do fine not to mention if btc goes up after purchase..   of course if btc tanks oh well.

btc volatility influence on mining equipement purchase profitability does not make sense

1 BTC is higher than .75 BTC no matter what the exchange rate is. If it is the yield that a mining equipment is giving, you are better just sit on your bitcoins.

For some holding coin is one part of a multi spread the risk plan.  100% mining or 100% coinholding is not the way to go. (and this is way off topic for bitminter but still is very interesting).

I hold coin, I have btc stock,s I have mining gear that I mine with  on bitminter and I resell mining gear on ebay to newcomers . So I spread risk around. Your hold coin plan can work well for you.  For me I have a steller ebay sales record so selling gear at a low price for a small profit really removes a lot of risk for me. I still hold coins long term. I also try to keep everything under 10k.  Stocks, coins, ebay stock   my mining gear.  More  a part time job then a living.

45168  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [OPEN] batch #23/24 .18 btc ASICMiner USB + 4 btc NEW Blade miners on: August 29, 2013, 03:45:26 PM
Well. Just bought one for 5BTC yesterday. Feel like being cheated.
you can over or under clock your blade. the new blade is voltage locked.  most likely that feature is worth the 1 coin. and your blade is in the mail while the new blade will not mail until tues .  these 2 factors should set you square.

to canary I would want a 10 pack of sticks  and 1 new style blade.  10x  .18 = 1.8 btc plus 4 btc or 5.8 btc total.

my question is do i pay for a medium flat rate box?

more news on lower prices for mining gear if you are in the usa prices dropped a lot overnight  sticks are at .18 btc and newer blades are 4 btc note the newer blades do not overclock

I buy from him and the gear is approaching very cheap.

.18btc a stick is very good as is 4 btc. for the locked blade it is locked at about 10gh

I would just like to say that I once flamed this thread for being a scammy pre-order buy.  I am very sorry for that.  This is still a pre-order buy but I was completely misinformed on the baby jet.  You guys win and have my full support Grin

I have recently seen that more orders are open for babyjets and came back to find you guys!

Has this been discussed here yet? I think it is recent and I have not seen it yet.

https://hashfast.com/

It says that there are 31 units left if this group buy has time to expand.. I would love to tuck my tail and buy with you lovely people!

Regards,

Vox
you should see some rips I did on this forum  and more then once I was completely wrong.  back to the gear.

I have at least 7 power supplies no lower in use.   soo  we do not need to buy one. to build the machine.  in fact I will send 2 to the hoster (l like backup plans) I have 1000 watt 850 watt 650 watt all 550 watt and 450 watt .  I will make a list to pick from. And since they are idle  I would sell 2 for 1.  it is easier then listing them on ebay.   I also have at least 8 sticks of samsung 4gb ram if needed. it is the very popular vlp green ram low volts 1.35 not 1.5.
45171  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [closed][Groupbuy] !NEW batch KNCMiner - 8 sold! SOLD OUT on: August 29, 2013, 11:49:39 AM

good I am a big fan of seasonic.  I used about 10 of them running my 11-13 pc 22-26 gpu farm last year and up to this may. I was using about 3400 to 3700 watts to hash about 11gh.  still made money doing it! Also lots of heat for the winter last year. The seasonic ran well if you were usa based I would have donated some of the psu's.
45172  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [19 TH/s] BitMinter.com [ASIC support: var diff, Stratum, GBT, rollntime] on: August 29, 2013, 11:43:15 AM
pete mining gear like a stick a blade a gpu a jalapeņo are related to bitminter. I use 100 plus sticks and will soon add 3 blades all will be mining here.  In fact when I get the blades I will be asking the good dr h  what I need to do to get them to run.

I mentioned they were on sale hoping a few guys using bitminter would buy some and add to our hash rate.  Sticks are selling like mad on ebay I saw some for 36 usd each.  This could help our hash rate as a new guy  may use them on bitminter. when I sell stick on ebay I always tell them use bitminter.  I post this thread for them to read. I sold about 80 sticks and have kept about 100.
I know I have at least 3 or 4 guys using bitminter due to the stick sales I do.

I do agree my asking about the error on the blockchain is more general then bitminter alone, but this is a thread I feel safe to ask a more general question.

I know forums sometimes get out of hand just go back a few pages and I opened my big mouth about coding scripts.  But this time I think I was more in line with doing something good for bitminter. If some bitminter members  purchased a few blades it would help the hashing rates for us. Or if they read that sticks are as low as 35-40 bucks on ebay it can get them started.

We reached 100 000 registered users. Not too shabby Smiley

I know it's probably not a priority, but are you working on some marketing to get the pool growing ?

I am working on things to grow the pool further.

good and as a point of price drops am is selling blades at a good price.

if you are in the usa canaryinthemine will sell a blade for 5 coins. I grabbed 3 blades today.

45176  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: August 29, 2013, 02:14:55 AM
Price of BFL Single: $2499 for 50Ghs.

Price for 5x AM blades: 3.5btc x 5 x 130 = $2275 for 50Ghs.

Every single BFL device that has been pre-ordered just got undercut. I would expect nearly every rational actor with a BFL preorder to cancel immediately. Friedcat just bankrupted them.

bfl is hashing lots of th as we speak.  they won't go bankrupt. just look at the unknown  hashrate

http://blockchain.info/pools

16% of 550th is  88th   or 176 "new" mini rigs .  don't you think bfl is using some mini-rigs to stay afloat?  Maybe not 176 but 20 or 30 or 40 of them.
https://ghash.io/
This pool is also counted as unknown, so....

Title of the topic was "limited quantity" so propably not more then 100. It sold out so quickly...

thanks so that drops the number down to 50-65th  still room for 40x 500gh units.  I only say it because they have not sold much in a while, yet they still are open. 20th would keep them afloat. it would be about 150 coins a day.  they could stick around and ship out some gear to keep the hounds at bay so to speak. still waiting on 2 jallys from them, but I paid the older lower prices and I canceled 3 little singles while they let us do cancellations. the 3 blades I ordered today will do nicely. even at the 5btc price the are worth it as they allow me to offload  a lot of asic sticks.

Warning, I have tried contacting Canary and he is yet to respond.  He told me he was out of Blades yesterday afternoon. Unless he was really in a hurry he wrote the wrong email. @google.com not @ gmail.com

all good no worries ignore below

well  the btc  addresses show  a transfer from one of canary's btcs to this new btc so we should be all good or he lost 939 coins his self.  not impossible since if his btc addresses were hacked and his account here were hacked he would have been really hurt.  along with us.

I sent my label to his gmail address not the google address.
45179  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [INVENTORY CLEARANCE] 10-13 GH blade for 5 btc on: August 28, 2013, 03:33:38 PM
found a good sign canary owned this address

19xofxS7vkmwoNgc52RVJtrU8XjN6VQ8pG    and this address transferred to

1J8pizGa3X3FWBqBC6tbw8UyeJt1JgWQHB  the one in this thread   so I think we are good.

this moved from canary's group 22-23 btc   To the blades  for sale btc

great sent 15 coins to this

I hope I am wrong, the friedcat post above does look real. It just sounds odd that one thread is listed having no inventory yesterday, while a new thread with an unfamiliar email address and BTC address is selling at half the price. OP, please clarify.

well the  friedcat sale is good I was directly contacted by btc-tc via email;

Thank you for using BTC-TC

This is why I believed the canary's thread he is a reseller and friedcat along with btc-tc say use a reseller.

I could see no reason to think canary had an issue.   Well hopefully your are wrong and this will be okay.
