481  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: PCIe Risers on: September 06, 2017, 01:08:27 AM
The 6-pin PCIe and 4-pin Molex powered riser boards will be able to handle the wattage of any video cards.

The SATA adapters might be able to handle the wattage on lower end cards or those that you under-volt, but with newer power hungry cards such as the Vegas or even 1080TI without proper undervolting you may be pushing them to the limit, even if you use only 1 per chain. If you can avoid the SATA powered boards.

Myself I prefer the 6-pin PCIe based ones, but I also use a lot of server PSU with the PCIe breakout boards, so this just ends up working out better. If you plan to use standard consumer PSUs you may have an easier time using the 4-pin Molex based risers.
482  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Latest news - BANNING from Russia, Korea AND China on: September 05, 2017, 07:19:30 AM
Yeah, the selling is just because people are spooked and probably are waiting on more confirmation on how broad these bans are going to be before gaining confidence again. But in whole I think this will ultimately be good for the health of the overall market as everyone knows there were too many big earning ICOs lately with very few of them having any legitimate plans other than raise a bunch of investor money and then exit scam the investors.

Also, the selling actually comes at a good time to help cool the market in general off, as we cannot realistically sustain this rate of growth and not expect a devastating crash. The market needs time to flatten out and maybe even come down some more for awhile to help stabilize everything and perhaps start rising again later this year or even early next year.
483  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Big waves on public pools on: September 03, 2017, 09:38:42 PM
It is probably either rental hashrate as others have suggested or even a large farm pointing its hashrate at the most lucrative coin or pool at any given time. I have heard some of the largest farms use proprietary algorithms to real-time calculate the best use of their hash-power.

Since their huge hashrates allow them to mine enough coins in a short enough time-frame, say 1 hour to mine a sizeable amount of coins to exchange say ~4 ETH/hr, they can employ mining and trading strategies that wouldn't make sense for most smaller miners who might only get paid once per day or even once per every few days.
484  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What GPU is in your gaming computer on: September 03, 2017, 09:31:30 PM
I currently use a GTX1080TI, when I am not gaming with it I am mining (best of both worlds). I also have plenty of dedicated mining rigs as will, so I do not think it comes down to a choice really.
485  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Newbie's Guide to Mining 101. on: September 02, 2017, 06:42:15 PM
Do you already have a decent PC? What are you trying to achieve by mining? Mine promising altcoins with your GPU, have them exchanged for Bitcoin? What's your budget? Don't even reply if you ask "Can I mine with my Pentium 4 laptop" This question has been answered plenty of times, many people here can guide you, provided that you provide us with more details.

Damn, I guess I'm below entry level.   Embarrassed

Maybe, maybe not. I think it would be helpful if you could at least let us know the system you are currently using. Is it a desktop or tower design with a dedicated GPU? If so you are in good shape to get going with the basics. If you have a laptop it will be a bit harder to get started right away, but we still could give you pointers to get you going. The more information you can provide on what you current have or are planning to buy will allow people to give you the most useful responses.
486  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore Miner not showing one graphic card temperature on: September 02, 2017, 06:34:09 PM
I have had this happen a few times and found out the issue seems to be the card in question is getting borderline power being fed to it. Usually if you are using the cheap SATA adapters, or are running too many adapters off of a single Molex chain this can also happen. You should also check the PCIe connectors both at the cards and PSU ends to ensure they are seated properly. it is a good idea to reseat your GPU and riser cables as well to make sure everything is seated firmly and making a solid electrical connection everywhere. Lastly, maybe even your PSU is becoming borderline if it is close to its maximum power limit. In some cases a PSU might be fine the first several months of its life when pushed hard, but with time components start to age and eventually the voltage regulation becomes a bit more compromised.

There could be other reasons as well, but if everything was working properly before and now suddenly one of the cards mines fine but does not display the temperature, I have solved it on a few occasions tracing it down to a weak or faulty power connector. In one of the cases the wires were actually burning hot to the touch, so I probably avoided a potential fire at some point down the road.
487  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GPU warranty trick - Question on: September 02, 2017, 05:54:19 PM

But it's retarded. IF i legit bought Zotac card for example and lost my invoice or something, i am not able to claim warranty. That sux...

I would agree with you on that point and you would probably be able to make a claim if you persisted hard enough. But on the other hand why wouldn't you have an invoice if you as you say legitimately bought the card from an authorized re-seller? At the least, they could send you a new copy so you could receive service.

if i have a card and that card is faulty factory should replace it regardless. It's their obligation to make sure card works for 3 years after it's been produced... doesnt matter if i have invoice or not lolz xD

This is totally disagree with you on. They are under no obligation to honor a warranty for cards that are not sold through authorized channels.

Say for instance they manufactured a batch of cards that didn't pass their QA testing for some reasons, and maybe they have a contract with a recycling company to buy the defective cards from them at a bit less than cost and the other company makes its money by reclaiming the components. Now that other company goes through and tests each card before the reclaiming process, and maybe they are a bit unscrupulous. They may set cards aside that might fire up and kinda run, and then sell these at a discount (compared to normal wholesale) to another shady re-seller, who turns around and sells them to someone like you for a discount. Of course no one can offer an invoice as the whole thing is shady as hell but they do lure in some people who think getting a 40-50% discount on a brand new card is somehow legit.

Well now then we have a card that the manufacturer thought was disposed of turning back up to be serviced from a scammed customer. So how is that their responsibility to fix?

Of course this is just one of hundreds of possible scenarios of how you came to posses your card, but the point is if the seller is not willing to provide documentation or a invoice with a valid serial number to obtain warranty, you should be looking to shop elsewhere. You bought the card at a discount knowing that it could be an gamble, and now that you have lost that bet you want the manufacturer to come to the rescue. Sorry to say, but with that attitude you seem to be not a lot better than the scammers who took advantage of you in the first place.
488  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: RX VEGA 64 ETHEREUM MINING HASHRATE REVEALED!!!!!!! on: September 02, 2017, 02:44:45 AM
Ive read from our local FB group that using the new AMD blockchain drivers boosts Vega's hashrates up to 40+ MHs.

Has anyone tried? Any news on this?

There were a few videos on launch day that showed different people getting it to upper 30's and I believe low 40's, as in 42 Mh/s, but the power usage was unreal. They needed to crank Power limit up to the max and I believe they system with just one VEGA card was using close to 479 watts. Even accounting for system overhead, that is about a 10 watt per 1 Mhash/s ratio. Properly tweaked 1080Ti's or RX580's get closer to only 5 watts per megahash, so essentially to get those super high hash-rates the Vega consumes twice as much power as its nearest competitor. So unless you get free power it is not worth it. Even if you do get free power, the upfront price makes it not worth it.
489  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How to reboot a rig if it stops mining? on: September 01, 2017, 01:29:44 PM
Most of these issues stem from rig instability. Instead of trying to find these elaborate workarounds to reboot your rig when the instability causes it to lockup or crash, you may be better off tracking down the reason it is unstable in the first place. Most of the time this usually comes down to heat and power, and occasional bad drivers or some other reason. Heat and power can be either direct, the cards running too hot or being on a borderline power issue, such as weak PSU, loose or undersized wires or connectors. It can also be indirect as a result of too much overclocking or too much undervolting.

Anyway, I think if you can track down the culprit your issues will go away and any loss of hashrate, for instance if you need to back down on the overclock, would be more than offset by your increased stability and up-time. Myself and I am sure many others have rigs that go for weeks or months without the need for a reboot, and usually then it because of a needed maintenance (software upgrade, scheduled cleaning, etc.) rather than because of something unexpected.
490  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining Rig Random Reboots on: August 30, 2017, 12:43:21 AM
Hey guys!

Hoping some of you can help me out here. I'm having an issue with a rig. It was running solid for weeks on end. Then I updated to the new AMD Mining drivers, and it seemed stable for another week or so (don't believe it is the drivers). Now, I'm getting random reboots. System just shuts down.

Wondering if it could be a faulty PCI-E adapter or failing card. If I just let the system reboot, 1 card is not detected. If I turn off power completely, and bring it back up, it is detected.

I can mine for an hour, sometimes 4-5, but it always happens.

Any ideas?

I would look into either a power or heat issue. It may be best to take your rig apart, clean out the cards and other components to remove any built up dust and reassemble it. I occasionally have a rig do this too that has been running for months beforehand, and a good cleaning and re-seating of the components and all connectors usually does the trick.

Also check if you have any SATA adapters in use and if you do no more than two per chain, and these should only be used to power risers. I prefer to avoid using the SATA power adapters completely and use PCIe connectors or if I "have to" use the 4 pin Molex.

If after doing the above the issue remains, then start swapping out risers as they do occasionally go bad, usually because of power problems.
491  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [OMG] - Pumped up by a botnet? on: August 30, 2017, 12:23:04 AM
Well unless you are running a bot yourself this is usually harmless. Yes the bot is feeling out the order book and it will routinely add and remove bids to see what the legitimate ones are. I don't think it is a sign of manipulation as much as just a profitable coin to make money off using bots. Unless you are day trading, or something, just place bids at market order prices. In the grand scheme of things, 1 or two sats price difference isn't going to make or break your trades.
492  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Very low electricty fee on: August 29, 2017, 07:21:45 PM
you should start mining! Electricity is pretty much the problem of all miners it is still profitable if your earning minus the electric bill is still positive which in your case would be a great plus for having a low electric bill.

Agreed. Most people on this forum would gladly pay $0.02 KWh. At this low of a rate you will almost no competition as far as ongoing expenses as electricity is probably the largest single monthly expense for most miners. Also if mining profitability would take a drastic downturn, where people paying 6, 8, 10 cents per KWh start to shut their rigs down, you can take comfort in the fact that you will most likely always be profitable
493  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: OmiseGo on: August 29, 2017, 06:52:35 PM
I have just notice this coin listed at bitfinex, but I cannot find its thread there on bitcointalk?
Project's website: https://omg.omise.co/

Yeah I tried to search it but never find the Ann here hope the team will make one before they start the ICO.
Somebody please clear this, I have seen that OmiseGo is listed on coinmarketcap and its already doing great for itself. Earlier posts on this thread mentioned that the project is even listed on bittrex. I don't know if I am confused or not, is the ICO yet to come? Can somebody clarify this point, is there a coin that is listed on exchanges before they can even launch their ICO? Huh

The OMG ICO is long over, they just didn't promote it much on this forum as they had plenty of early local interest already. Checkout the OMG website for more details: https://omg.omise.co/
494  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Power Supplies on: August 29, 2017, 03:43:17 AM
Server PSUs are probably the best with proper breakout boards and dedicated PCIe power cables to each GPU, not splitting like you sometimes need to do with a consumer grade PSU. However, as has been pointed out they can at times get loud so for the consumer PSU I would vote for Corsair or EVGA.
495  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ZEN is a superior version of ZCash, but only 2% of price? lot of development on: August 28, 2017, 01:19:33 AM
Zclassic, the fork sibling of Zencash, is rising big for last couple of days. Is it worth holding some ZCL
as well alongwith ZEN.

I really like Zencash's current business model which, in my opinion, will create a lot off interest in Zen as time goes on; sky is the limit as far as I'm concerned. I just don't know if ZCL will gain the same popularity. That's really your call.

I agree that Zencash has a more active development team and think long-term it has more potential. It is also one of the reasons I signed on the the signature campaign to earn a few extra on the side. Smiley

Anyway, I was involved with Zencash even before joining the signature campaign and have mined it since the beginning by pointing a couple of miners at it, along with several other coins I actively mine.

I think there is room for more than a few successful coins in the marketplace, but the one thing all successful coins will need is an unique edge and an active development team. Zencash has both and it is worth a look if you are considering diversifying your crypto-portfolio among several leading coins.
496  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: AMD Releases Driver for DAG Issue !!! on: August 28, 2017, 12:37:06 AM
Feking AMD. What kind of clowns release a blockchain driver that doesn't work with the most common blockchain mining applications? Fools.

I heard Aug 11 drivers + Trixx work for undervolt. Anyone else confirming this?

Give them a break, at least they are trying to help out miners which is more than they have ever done up until this point.

You also need to realize they are balancing dual priorities, on the one hand trying to help out miners with more performance, but at the same time they need to make sure their cards are operated within acceptable tolerance as to not cause extra support calls or even RMAs due to outright failures.
497  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: nicehash.com vs zpool.ca vs miningpoolhub.com - And the winner is... on: August 28, 2017, 12:16:59 AM
so what is the result now?

Yes, I am interested to find out what the results are as well, if any. It does feel a bit disappointing to read through the entire thread to find there are no results yet.
498  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Musicoin profitability on: August 27, 2017, 08:51:14 PM
It won't last long as there already is a lot of hashrate that has been moving over to Musicoin for the past couple of days. A month or two back Muscicoin was also on top of the chart for a few days only to drop down again. The best time is to mine when no one else is and to sell at times like this.
499  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: BCH, rise or fall? on: August 27, 2017, 06:56:15 PM
I think long-term it might have some potential, but for the short-term every time it pumps up a little holders are going to cash out. I sold a little bit I had easy access to when it was near $900. I also have some still locked away in BTC addresses that I have yet to claim. Maybe if it gets to $1,000 + for a period of time I might consider moving it.
500  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 1080Ti Specific - Best mining option on: August 26, 2017, 08:04:21 PM
so if I run the fan around %70 is it ok or is it too much and will damage the fan sooner ?_

I think it is better to utilize your fan to avoid GPU overheat damage. BTW the fan is quite cheap if you can change it yourself, but you can't change GPU and GPU other electronic components.

Thanks !
I run my EVGA 1080ti SC2 @ 70° max with fans @ 60%
Those chips can run at 90°, it is advised to not go >80° so for me 70 is a good MAX temp for 24/7
If I have any issue, I have a 48 hours RMA with EVGA so I dont care.

same for me, 70degres is a good temp for mining

I don't know, those numbers sound a bit high. You may need to throttle back on the power consumption of these cards a bit more. I have that exact card EVGA 1080Ti SC2 in a rig with 4 others (5 GPU rig) and they all only run around 60° C with the fans speeds only hovering around 40-50%.

They are all doing 800 Sols with a bit less than 140 watts each power draw (750W for the entire rig including system overhead), and operating in a 90° F (32° C) environment, so not unduly cool by any means. Even if I switch to ETH mining, they still are right around the same temps and fan speeds, although power use may creep up slightly.
How the hell are you getting 800 sols on 140w...

MSI Afterburner. Reduce Power Limit (I run ~ 68), un-check the temp link and set the temp to ~85 or so. The cards don't run this hot but this keeps the software from throttling, with a 20+ degree difference between actual and limit there is no throttling. Then increase core clock to 250 or whatever you can before it crashes, and you can leave memory at default or even reduce it slightly as it has little impact on Equihash mining. Also, keeping your cards cool is a must, as I posted above I have a lot of airflow going to and over my cards, so I think that is the main secret as if they start to get hot even in the 70's the cards will start to throttle back and the Sols will begin to drop.

Man those evgas oc really well i have 2 rigs with strix oc and zotac amp extreme and highest i got was +160,my cards don't go over 60c.Whats your cpu i saw few cases where shity cpu caused few % lower sols

Now that you mention it that rig does have an Intel i5 processor as I was going to do other things with it. Not top end, but it is definitely better than a Celeron, although CPU usage seems to be of little importance during mining. But it may have something to do with better access to the PCI lanes or something.

One other thing, that while maybe not related directly to mining performance but sharing for full disclosure, is that I am using a Samsung 960 EVO 256 GB M.2 drive in that rig. I am also running 16 GB of RAM, while I normally only run 4 GB (again I plan to use the rig for other things as well). So while I really think the mining performance is more due to the cards and keeping them cool, it is true that this rig is built to a bit higher quality than is typically found in a standard mining rig.
