1341  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Coinbase Referral Bonuses Have Increased From $25 to $75!" - What? on: August 21, 2015, 03:36:52 AM
1000 ATMs will be placed in Greece.
Coinbase is backed by really BIG VCs.
They're trying to grab as many users possible before new bubble.
Coinbase doesn't need to give out free money to get business, people come running to them.

I think a really good theory is they want to get more users stuck in their honeypot, and collect all their info so they can submit an extensive list of every bitcoin user to the government. Something just doesn't seem right here.

They're giving out $75 to users that aren't likely to buy much more than the first $100, yet they are permanently banning people who give them hundreds of thousands of dollars of business, and they file reports to the government on them. How does that make any sense? Maybe 1,000-10,000 of these new signups will equal the profit of 1 solid bitcoin dealer that they throw out, and they're throwing them out left and right.

You probably just answered your own question. They would rather have 1,000's of smaller, honest customers than a few big money laundering/drug dealing types whose actions could lead to them getting into legal trouble and risk their entire operation. Makes perfect sense.

Sweet App! Yes, it would be nice for a few more exchanges, especially Polo, to be added, but still nice work. Smiley
1343  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Only $60 trillion in debt world wide ... on: August 20, 2015, 03:43:47 AM
That is only reflecting government (sovereign) debt, if you factor in all forms of debt the figure is closer to $200 trillion:

1344  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: is Moon Bitcoin faucet broke? on: August 20, 2015, 01:02:05 AM
I tried to claim several thousand satoshi today from Moon Bitcoin Faucet and received an error that the address I was trying to withdraw from did not have sufficient funds!

Is Moon Bitcoin broke? (At least they're not getting charged NSF fees!)

Faucets periodically run dry. Just give it awhile until the faucet owner can deposit more BTC into their account.
1345  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC Price FLASH CRASH! on: August 19, 2015, 01:30:13 AM
Yeah, it is indeed bargain prices. Might get even cheaper until this XT thing comes to pass.
1346  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: LTC calm before the storm ? on: August 19, 2015, 12:11:05 AM
With this amount of calm it is going to be one heck of a storm. Smiley

With a little over 6 days until the halving (Reward-Drop ETA date: 08-25-2015 16:55:44 http://www.litecoinblockhalf.com/ ) I too would think we would have seen a slow but steady rise over the last few days. I don't know what will happen but will be keeping a close eye on the price movement over the next week.

1347  Economy / Economics / Re: How much do you think silver will go to? on: August 18, 2015, 11:55:28 PM
Silver can drop a lot more yet. The problem is that PM prices are based more on the ETF markets than that of the value of the actual metal.

No payment. :/ I think I'm actually doing free advertising.

Look on the google spreadsheet https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1VnxIQYrmyaLDY0nHNYu3FowAdgrf6y0cvNGTnEFP8mA/edit#gid=1747091762

You started last week with a 48 post count and ended the week with a 64 post count. This means you only made 16 posts during the week which is below the minimum of 20 weekly posts required to get paid.

Plus also be aware that posting in certain sections (see OP) do not count, so a good practice is to post a few more extra than the bare minimum in case some of them do not meet the criteria. I would try to aim for 25 posts per week to be safe, and be sure to read over the OP again to see the rules.
1349  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Making money off of internet bandwidth on: August 18, 2015, 08:23:30 PM
I don't know if I would trust any third party's utilizing my bandwidth. No telling what they are going to be doing with it, especially if it involves uploading, downloading, or transferring of files. If the content is illegal, you will be held liable as well. Not worth the risk for the minimal amount of money you might make off of it, imho.
1350  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to calculate a valuble invest cost? on: August 18, 2015, 08:18:51 PM
If you are referring to value cost averaging, more commonly known as dollar cost averaging, the concept is pretty straightforward. The two basic things you need to know are: how much you are going to invest and what time frame do you want to invest over.

For instance, say you decide to invest $10,000. You also decide to spread the risk out over a year, so you would buy BTC once per month at 10,000/12 or roughly $833 a month. This way you would be averaging the costs of acquiring btc over the year minimizing your risk of buying at the peak. Of course the opposite is true as well as you will not be buying at the low point either.

There are variants to this in that you could go the route of spending $200 a month to buy BTC until you acquire a set amount of BTC. You would then continue this until your goal had been met, for instance you want to accumulate 50 BTC, you simply purchase $200 worth each month until your goal is reached.

1352  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Greece to Receive 1,000 Bitcoin ATMs on: August 18, 2015, 06:23:40 PM
But installing 1,000 ATMs seems like quite a huge investment. I doubt any company would make that kind of large inversion. Anyone has an estimate of how much would it cost?

Lamassu is a popular Bitcoin ATM provider: https://lamassu.is/

They have units ranging from their Douro ($6,500.00) down to the Braga ($1,800.00).

Low-end deployment:  $1,800 x 1000 = $1.8 million
High-end deployment:  $6,500 x 1000 = $6.5 million

Assuming they deploy a mix of machines, ~$4,000 (averaged cost) x 1000 = $4 million

I suppose with 1000 machines you could negotiate a discount buying in bulk, so maybe knock 20-30%% off these prices.

Of course this does not count the cost of leasing space, installation, initial cash loads into the ATMs, etc. I would guess you would need close to $8 - $10 million to start.

Update: I found this on their FaQ after more research:

What price breaks are available for purchases of ten units?

For quantities of 10+ units the prices for each are:

Douro: $5,500

Santo Tirso: $4,600

Braga: $1,600
1353  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Greece to Receive 1,000 Bitcoin ATMs on: August 18, 2015, 06:12:02 PM
Interesting, are there any statistics detailing how many Bitcoin ATM's are installed in larger countries such as the US?
1354  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: HOWTO: create a 100% secure wallet on: August 17, 2015, 04:50:00 AM
A secure wallet is a 100% offline wallet IMO:

i'm still thinking that you can get a 100% secure online wallet, you just need a isolated network and a desktop dedicated only to run the client

I am thinking the same way and it is the route I am taking. Fresh install of Linux on a dedicated machine, installed BTC Core and let it sycn up block chain. While it was syncing added firewall rules via IP Tables just to allow what is needed for basic functionality of the BTC client. I will only boot and sync when needed, and have passphrase protected the wallet. I will also keep copies of the encrypted wallet.dat file elsewhere for safekeeping.

If I begin to accumulate enough BTC where I think one wallet is too risky, I can always do the same with multiple machines. I already plan to keep a small amount of day-to-day BTC on my main desktop, so the dedicate box is just for longer term storage and will only need to be fired up on occasion. I suppose I could take it a step further and keep it offline like the guide, but I like the idea to just be able to send the BTC to my "spending" wallet when I have the need, or to easily fire it up and create additional receiving addresses when the need arises.
1355  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: is gambling fix your life? or wreck your life? on: August 17, 2015, 04:16:59 AM
As most people here correctly point out, gambling can be a fun pastime if done in moderation. This is a form of entertainment that is equivalent to many others such as, a night at the movies, golf outing, day at the amusement park, and so on.

The trick is to treat it the same as the other forms of entertainment in which you have a set budget beforehand and stick with it. For example, say you are going to take your sweetheart to the fair this weekend, you would have a general idea of what you plan to spend. Say a show/concert maybe $80, some rides, food, etc another $40, maybe try your hand at a few games for another $40, and a few bucks for misc. items. Let's say you plan to roughly spend $200. Sure you might see or come across something to go over that, say you bought a couple t-shirts, but for the most part you will stick pretty close to the original amount you budgeted.

If this same strategy is used when gambling, you budget to gamble up to $200, once you hit that limit you are done. So once you lose $200, call it a night and come back later once you have had a chance to disengage yourself for awhile. A good strategy I have found is that this can work both ways. Say I go into a casino with the same $200, if I am up $200 (doubled my money) at any point, meaning I have $400, my original $200 plus winnings, I also call it a night. This way I have found over the longer term I can pocket some money on good nights rather than stick around until it is also lost.
1356  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Big LTC Pump! August 2015! Welcome on: August 17, 2015, 01:55:17 AM
5 days left.
Yes, people do not believe in these investments.
But many people are investing in cloud Mining =)
Who would dare to invest, he will make a profit.
For those who do not believe it will be a topic for discussion.

Would seem no one:  https://block-explorer.com/address/Li8MbWsGCunJNWjRqLG1oz4kric2wyPe8p

1357  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will you be trading Litecoin over the next few weeks? on: August 16, 2015, 10:41:35 PM
Hard to tell what will happen really, it could easily go in either direction. If you asked me several weeks ago I would have said it would rise a bit, but now that we are only 8 days away and the price is staying pretty much around the $4 mark, I think we may have already seen the rise. I have some LTC but do not plan on buying any more strictly because of the upcoming halving. If it goes up I might sell some, if i goes down I will probably continue to hold for the longer term.
1358  Other / Meta / Re: Your IP HAS SOME EVIL POINTS? on: August 16, 2015, 10:00:20 PM
Smells like you are being scammed or whatever. Don't pay shit to anyone if asked.

I assume OP is talking about the fee you have to pay to use Bitcointalk if your IP is blacklisted.
That feature was implemented to combat spammers among other things.

I didn't even know such a thing (feature) existed. Is there a post somewhere detailing this information? Not that I expect to need it, just this post aroused my curiosity on how/why it was implemented.
1359  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum - Stay out! on: August 16, 2015, 05:41:16 PM
once gui wallet is made available price will go down a lot.. Tongue

How much do people think is locked up waiting for the release of a GUI wallet? I couldn't imagine people not being able to figure how how to use the command line or at least get someone to show them how rather than sit around and watch as the value of their coins go down. The more ETH someone held the more this would be true, so I would only think your theory would hold true for people with relatively small amounts and not enough to make a significant impact on the market.
1360  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: VanillaCoin Market Capitalization on: August 16, 2015, 05:17:49 PM
Even with zerotime it will take a while for the coin to catch on and to get past 10 mil marketcap. While the tech and features are solving useful needs, they are still incremental changes.

Sure Bitcoin can be a pain sometimes with its confirmation times, but for the most part still works pretty good. Most arguments for small purchases, coffees, etc., are already instant due the third party payment processors, such as BitPay, assuming the small risk of a double spend attempt until the transaction is confirmed.
