481  Economy / Speculation / Re: For all of you scared of the current dip on: February 26, 2021, 06:55:14 PM
only the newcomers and those who are too lazy to look at the previous couple of months on charts are going to be scared these days otherwise everyone else should know by that that corrections such as this one are the most common thing that can happen during the bitcoin rises.

2017 was full of them. we had a 30% drop almost every month. and 2021 is no different either we already had 2 of them and there are more to come until the end of the year.
482  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Which scenario is safer than the other? on: February 26, 2021, 06:08:43 PM
since you mentioned "cash" i'm assuming the trade is face to face and what you are handing over to the to her person is also considered "irreversible" which means that the only safe scenario is if the transaction is confirmed (1 confirmation for a small amount and 3+ if it is bigger) then you give up the cash.

if the payment method was anything else, such as a method that had the option to reverse it then either option would have been safe for you since you are making the payment in the reversible way.
483  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: bitcoin address with capital letters on: February 24, 2021, 12:03:43 PM
AFAICT, some wallets like Electrum represents bech32 addresses in lowercase when using the QR codes; nothing wrong just that not all follows the recommendation.

it is not a recommendation to change the letter cases when turning them into QR code, it is an option that exists to server very special cases like if you wanted to print the address on a very small surface like a physical bitcoin otherwise it is best to stick to lower case because the other wallet that reads it may not be as sophisticated to recognize upper case!
484  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin can't be used for transactions? on: February 24, 2021, 11:47:02 AM
can't is the wrong word to use here. bitcoin can and is being used as payment all around the world and transactions have the same speed as always. you just have to pay higher fees these days because the price is shooting up and people are panic buying bitcoin which creates a lot of network congestion.
but it is also hard to pay this much fee for bitcoin transactions and something must be done about it.
485  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Can/should Bitcoin software be reconfigured to limit the # of miners? on: February 24, 2021, 11:29:59 AM
Say limit it to 100,000 miners per wallet?
there already is a limit it is the relationship between adoption (what you say number of wallets), price rise, difficulty, profitability of mining and the number of miners.
if there is low adoption, the price will be low and difficulty remains low with the low number of miners.
when adoption increases, price goes up which make mining profitable so more miners join and difficulty goes up.

Quote
Then the transaction time & fee & carbon footprint would have a limit?
bitcoin has 0 carbon footprint because it is a network and bitcoin nodes, wallets, and bitcoin miners don't produce anything at all.

the electric companies on the other hand that are producing electricity have a terrible carbon footprint. so maybe you are asking the question in a wrong place!
486  Economy / Speculation / Re: next Bitcoin price correction WHEN? on: February 24, 2021, 10:55:46 AM
BTC price goes up and up ever since we had last correction at 42K. now we are at 57.4 K and climbing which is very very good. some people even expect no correction until 80-100K. if we move like that we may see price over 100K as soon as 2-3 months. what do you think?
Keep an eyes in March, because according to history, March was a month for bitcoin correction, and before March the altcoin price dumped up to 30%, because bitcoin price corrected 10% - 15% of course, this made traders panic and sell crypto assets, even though it's still bullrun. So correction is a natural thing, we wait until March, hopefully March is not a month of correction but a month of recovery.

i don't see anything special about March in previous years and the market was the same as other months of the year. it is not surprising to me because price doesn't move based on months but based on a lot of other complicated factors!
487  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: bitcoin address with capital letters on: February 24, 2021, 10:13:02 AM
bech32 addresses which are used for the SegWit addresses are not case sensitive so they can be represented in all caps letters too.
meaning both of these addresses (copied from BIP173) are the same:
bc1qw508d6qejxtdg4y5r3zarvary0c5xw7kv8f3t4
BC1QW508D6QEJXTDG4Y5R3ZARVARY0C5XW7KV8F3T4

the benefit of all upper case letters is smaller QR code when you want to encode an address as an image. this was not possible in base58 (aka legacy) addresses.

you can read more about this encoding here: https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0173.mediawiki
488  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto market too big to ignore, says Nigeria SEC on: February 23, 2021, 03:22:56 PM
that's the problem with governments that do weird things about bitcoin that is against what the rest of the world is doing and against what people like. it forces people to go off the market and do more P2P trades that the government can not ever have any control over and worst of all is that they can never take back that control they lost in first place.
P2P trading is not as popular as going to a centralized exchange in countries that have accepted bitcoin and their government has more control over the market and what people do!
Not sure if it's better to be happy or sad about having a government that allows you to use cryptocurrencies if one of the main reasons they allow it is 'cause they can have control over it, lol. But I think the number of people going off-grid and using BTC the P2P way is way smaller than those obeying the laws anyway. Whether it's a ban or strict regulations, I still think the balance is in their favor.

Smaller countries don't have the tech and experts (or the salaries for them) that big countries do though. If the US can afford paying big money for intelligent algorithms that automatically extract data from crypto blocks, smaller countries would rather just become hostile against BTC instead.

i think in the end this can be a good thing. we know that government regulation is not something we can deny and it will all happen sooner or later. but the sooner some governments realize that they can not prevent the bitcoin adoption from happening the faster we are going to see the eased up regulations which is so much better than the government resisting bitcoin for years and slowing down the adoption.
489  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Instutional imvestors are Here wall street Style of action Now on: February 23, 2021, 03:01:00 PM
I THINK I had enough of this Bitcoin porn!
Im done with crypto not interested about any digital money or crypto ill just stay with old money.

So this is the day yous top-posting around here your nonsense? This time for real?
Good, you've made your decision, go with it and leave us once for all alone and stop with all those shitty topics in which all you do all day is vent your frustration.

haha, in your (our) dreams that he leaves this forum or stops trolling us and sometimes tries spreading FUD.
trolls like OP are like energy, they aren't destroyed they are only turning from one form to another, or rather one account to another.

i wouldn't be surprised if some day i found out that OP is the same legendary bitcointalk idiot called kwukduck who kept insisting bitcoin should drop to zero from 2010 to 2018.
490  Economy / Speculation / Re: One of the best times to buy would be probably be around now. on: February 23, 2021, 01:31:34 PM
I think this is a tiny dip before the huge rally.

if we look at the bitcoin history we can see that the huge rally is already taking place and this drop is an indication of it. after this dip is finished (which could take about a week) then there will be a similar big rise as the previous $10k step then it will be followed by another dip exactly like this one before the next $10k step is taken. that is from $30k to $40k then fall down. from $40k to $50k then fall down. from $50k to $60k then fall down. and so on.

i don't think this trend is going to change until price enters $100k and then it will speed up a little but we will see similar pattern with healthy corrections.

in about 9 months from now we will see $400k to $600k which i predict would be the end of this cycle.
491  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Corrupted private key? on: February 23, 2021, 12:37:27 PM
it could be possible that you have an altcoin's private key.
Unlikely:
blockchain.com show it's base58 (p2pkh) format and shows some  small balance.

the address is a valid bitcoin address, but it could be possible that the additional information was from another wallet like an altcoin private key written beside this bitcoin address.

I guess I might have used BIP38 encrypt with aditional password. How to verify that?

if it were then bitaddress.org would have asked you to also enter your password. and also your string would have started with 6P

here is an example and the password is "hello"

492  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Corrupted private key? on: February 23, 2021, 12:16:41 PM
it could be possible that you have an altcoin's private key.

a bitcoin private key can be any of the following:
- 51 or 52 characters starting with 5, L or K and the base58 characters to follow
- 64 characters only characters of hexadecimal (0 to 9 and a to f).
- 44 characters only characters of base64 (0 to 9 and a to z and A to Z and + and / and =)
- 58 characters in base58 character set starting with 6P is the encrypted key using BIP38

if your key starts with "nV" and is 64 characters it doesn't fall into any of these groups.

my guess is that it is if this is a key then it is either from an altcoin wallet or it is base64 encoding of an encrypted key using a different encryption method.

ps. testnet addresses start with n (or m) so it could be nV too but their length is shorter around 30 characters.
493  Economy / Economics / Re: Big test for Bitcoin during the next Economic Collapse. on: February 22, 2021, 03:58:23 PM
All the prrrrinting and a falling GDP MIGHT be the seeds for the worst situation of an Economic Crisis. HYPERINFLATION.
Excessive printed fiat can lead to hyperinflation, but know that USA knows how to do it not to result to inflation.

that's a common mistake, USA didn't print that much money they minted it. that is why even after this many months we haven't seen the economy be destroyed yet and why we aren't feeling the inflation. but the money they minted is going to slowly enter the circulation and showing its effects. in other words the inflation is inevitable no matter what US does but it will happen slower.
494  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin is dumping, what's the possible reason? on: February 22, 2021, 03:29:54 PM
it wouldn't be as surprising to see a brand new member say "Huge dump happening" as to see an old member who has been around since 2016 say it while the price only went down 6-7%.
haven't you really seen the 30%-40% drops we had in 2017 while price was rising like these days? or maybe you have forgotten all about it since it was a couple of years ago?
495  Economy / Speculation / Re: Ongoing Price Correction on: February 22, 2021, 03:07:49 PM
that's what happens whenever bitcoin has a correction. the altcoins get dumped hard. ethereum has already lost a lot of price because of the small bitcoin correction more so than before when bitcoin was rising if you check is price against bitcoin not dollar. this is not specific to ethereum though all the altcoins are doing the same thing.

in any case this is a healthy bitcoin correction that always happens during its bull markets. this is also needed for the future rises to break the $60k and reach $70k in next step just like when we were in $40k range and needed a correction before we enter $50k.
496  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: SegWit2x B2X & Block size | BITCOIN 2.0 on: February 22, 2021, 02:20:28 PM
maybe those coins have issues with nodes and community but their technology like BCH has a 8mb block size or BSV which i think has a 32MB block size which means higher scalability and way lower fees

having bigger block size is not technology, it is child's play. besides since nobody uses these altcoins they always have empty blocks. they keep spamming them to keep the size up but they can't keep at it and the size drops down to near zero again. that is the only reason for their lower fees, lack of usage.
the problems aren't with nodes and community either. it runs much deeper. for example more than 90% of the hashrate is being controlled by the same people who control these altcoins.

i understand that BCH and BSV are probably way more superior than

why exactly do you think centralized altcoins with lots of weaknesses that the community has ridiculed and ignored are "superior" to anything?
499  Economy / Economics / Re: Global debt soars to 356% of GDP on: February 21, 2021, 04:42:06 PM
If stocks die, everything dies. Forget bitcoin or anything else, we'll be back to agriculture. If your country is alright with socialism during a disaster then you're fine- if not it might be problematic.

not everything depends on the stock market and even in disaster scenarios not all stocks dump. in fact in the previous recession when stock market was crashing there were some shares that were performing very well.
we don't know how bitcoin comes into all of this though and i think people who make certain claims are missing this fact. there is actually a very good chance that bitcoin would be among those that aren't affected by such doomsday scenarios.
500  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Musk's BTC/Crypto tweets are pretty childish... on: February 21, 2021, 03:49:52 PM
no your expectations are just wrong.
Twitter is not a place to post thoughtful posts, it is a place to post memes and have fun. and Musk has been having a lot of fun on twitter lately by trolling people specially the altcoin bag holders and custodial wallets.
in the end if anyone is taking investment advice on twitter they are doing it wrong.
