You guys resurrected my shame thread! Thankfully I haven't touched any gambling for almost two months now so I think I cured myself. It's still really shitty when I remember that I wasted away most of my money but it's gotten better with time.

I don't think it's so much the toxicity right now as much as lack of any major positive news. We haven't really had anything like "Overstock accepts Bitcoin" or "famous enterpreneur announces his support of Bitcoin" for quite a while. To be fair we haven't had that much bad things either since the Gox fiasco, but right now BTC is just really really quiet and I think some people are getting a bit frustrated.

Who will defend us from the ignorant government-controlled media puppets now.

I tried to get my friends into bitcoin. One of them kept repeating that its a ponzi scheme and the other said he wasn't interested because "nobody accepts it".

I really don't know what to make of this. To the best of my knowledge the founders of Mt.Gox are already incredibly rich due to being early adopters of Bitcoin. I just don't understand why they would rob people when they're already rich. But at the same time, if they are innocent, how in the hell do you just "find" a wallet with 200k coins.

Not entirely sure if this is the right place to ask but...
I decided to try out purchasing some items with bitcoin on Overstock.com but I'm running into problems. I sent the exact amount of BTC requested to pay for my purchase but I got an error saying that I sent the wrong amount. I assume this has something to do with transaction fees? So a small amount was deducted for the transaction from my wallet to Overstock's wallet.
So I got my money refunded and tried again. Assuming that the transaction fee is anywhere from 0.0001 to 0.0005 (to the best of my knowledge), I paid 0.0008 BTC over the requested amount. However I still received the "wrong BTC amount sent" error. Can somebody explain what the issue is?

That's the nature of altcoins. In order for one to really blow up and make you a lot of money, 50 more people have to lose money with some other alt coins. It's very high risk, very high reward. That's why I've decided to stay out of the altcoin market, I think it's too much risk, stress and worry. Well that and I don't really have any belief or interest in them outside the possibility of making a lot of money. Whereas I actually believe in bitcoin and the freedom it can give people from banks and governments.

My efforts include buying from Overstock instead of Amazon. This is pretty much the biggest message you can send to a business. It's all about profit first. If you affect the profit you can change almost anything.

Fiat developed over thousands of years. Bitcoin has had five. How can you declare it as a failure? Especially when every day, more and more merchants accept it, and it is engrained in our society more and more. Sure, the average joe might still see it as a "ponzi scheme" or whatever uneducated opinion. But it's getting traction and more people are finding out about it. It's also overcome and continues to overcome countless problems, both technical and social (like all the scams, the Mt.Gox failure, the hacks, etc).

They obvious got abducted by roswell aliens! :O
I think Al Gore took it. I like a to joke - but there's a couple of hundred lives missing They're dead. Most definitely dead. Even if any of them somehow survived a crash, too much time has passed and their condition would be pretty bad out at sea with no food water and little protection.

Normally I'd agree with him because he's one of the best investors/economists on the planet but...in this case he just sounds like a rambling senior citizen that doesn't understand the internet and its related technologies.

ok.. seems we are even further behind...
still checking.. looks like eligius may have been on the only correct chain.. the reason why people were stuck on around block 89xxx is because that was the correct chain.. it wasn't taking a long time to sync.. it was synced..
my upload may have been the wrong chain.. seems the other pool mining both sha256/scrypt may have forked themselves separately.. or.. maybe they all just split
still investigating..
Thx for the updates. I guess the best thing would be to just sit and wait instead of trying all these downloads and techy fixes.

So I downloaded the Mega file but I can't find it on my computer anywhere? What the ??
Downloads? Or, hit the windows key and f, then search by *.zip. It'll be at the top... Haha I know how to do that. It's not found anywhere. says 100% downloaded on mega page though.
