Yeah so we are a little over 50% nodes on the new fork... 19 days to go and we need at least another 30%.

So for those who have not downloaded the new QT or new Markets client please do.

And yes the QT appearance and version is the same as before however the newest one triggers a fork. It's been up since the first of November.

So has anyone yet tried to use the new freezing and timelock functions in advanced spending?
502  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [ANN]CRYPTOCHANGEX.COM - Exchange GByte/Btc,Gbyte/Ltc,Dash and more soon *OPEN* on: November 11, 2017, 11:35:41 PM
Hey nice to see a seasoned member starting an exchange. If you want to list BitBay you can find us at Bitbay.market ... or let me know via PM if you need any details.  Grin
503  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I've compared Syscoin, Bitbay & Particl - Decentralized Markets Comparison Table on: November 06, 2017, 09:53:59 AM
You forgot to mention safex! Very undervalued coin! it's worth checking it's features

Also there is OpenBazaar which probably should be there even though its Bitcoin. Either way Sys, OB and Safex use 3rd party escrow if I'm not mistaken.

And to the people posting above indeed Safex is no more vapor than SDC/Particl. Perhaps it should be there?! Isn't there also an Ethereum one?

A good comparison by the OP however indeed it seems to have attracted a lot of shilling for BitBay. This was posted to our slack and BCT
and people responded (I'm the dev). The thing is, I think everyone gets defensive of their investments. After all, they invest in what they believe in. This is
almost too commonplace in crypto and at times it does indeed hamper insightful convos. Just stick to facts and look at features!

I think another one of the points (taking features of BitBay and comparing across) is actually inaccurate. BitBay has a lot of working features.
So even if you took every SYS feature or SDC feature (I think SDC doesn't have too many unique features yet?!) it would have still turned
out this way. I've always argued that there is no comparison because the software has been worked on for almost 4 years. Plus we don't use 3rd party arbiters.

It is actually my personal desire to see the other coins create more features and definitely honor their promises and not be vapor. It's no mystery that
vaporware is one of the most dangerous things to investors. It is a cold hearted reality that many projects that raise X millions will VANISH into nothing
and never deliver on their promises. This has already happened too many times. It is what is hurting the altcoin industry actually. People shouldn't invest in pretty websites. Coding crypto is hard work and they should invest by the sweat on someones brow not by their fancy suit or "accolades".

With that said, I hope Safex, Particl and others deliver software as the world needs more research in these areas, more coders. Dividends on the markets
are a very interesting idea. But I would be a bit worried about SEC and other types of agencies trying to mess with them by crying security (is this a concern or not)?! A dividend model is indeed an amazing crypto model and I'm surprised more projects don't do it. Perhaps because of the risk I just mentioned.
504  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BitBay OFFICIAL BITBAY Thread Smart Contracts Decentralized Markets Rolling Peg on: November 06, 2017, 07:40:18 AM
Is there BitBay threads in other languages?
There's no Russian thread. If it was, there will be more users and investors.

Agreed, we used to have bounties for that but nobody took them.
505  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BitBay OFFICIAL BITBAY Thread Smart Contracts Decentralized Markets Rolling Peg on: November 05, 2017, 05:12:59 AM
Great update david Smiley

This is exactly why we need a new team member to be dedicated to this thread on this board.

So at a later date if other decentralised exchanges do not materialise and work well i guess bitbay has the ability to .....

Did you think any further about using the lock time and amount of bay to attribute rewards to those accumulating and saving? like savings bonds. I think  people would really go for that. Especially once the online wallets and market place are here it would open all this up to the average person who does not want to run a wallet full time.

I'm not sure if I will give special incentives for staking frozen funds. It depends on time and testing. As that would be a more complex build. We shall see. However it is an excellent idea to incentivize trade of frozen funds.
506  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BitBay OFFICIAL BITBAY Thread Smart Contracts Decentralized Markets Rolling Peg on: November 05, 2017, 05:11:40 AM
I'm interesting in this project and i want to be a part of it. From which point i can start? I hope to answer me soon... Thanks!

Hey there, well feel free to check out our site and features... http://bitbay.market/walloffeatures/

And also if you want to coordinate with us join our Slack. And like said above you can test out the wallet for free doing contracts using our faucets or sell goods and services in the markets.
507  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BitBay OFFICIAL BITBAY Thread Smart Contracts Decentralized Markets Rolling Peg on: November 05, 2017, 05:10:36 AM
Which rights do your tokens provide its holders with?

Here is our "wall of features"
http://bitbay.market/walloffeatures/

We have more working features than almost any other coin in the industry. Decentralized markets, unbreakable contracts, etc.

is the new qt 2.0?

Yes I did not change the version number on the new QT I forgot. However the Markets wallet version number is change. Regardless everyone must update asap.
509  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BitBay OFFICIAL BITBAY Thread Smart Contracts Decentralized Markets Rolling Peg on: November 04, 2017, 02:53:08 AM
Hi everyone! So yes sorry there was no announcement here. The marketing team first tweeted the exotic spend and they I suppose wanted to decouple the promotion of that and the fork despite being all in one update.

They recently tweeted and sent a blast email. I asked them why we didn't post on Bitcointalk and perhaps because nobody was assigned to it. Although that is okay, consider this an official post!

Yes we are forking and everyone must update to the new QT or Markets Client immediately. The fork takes place on the 30th however we need everyone running the new build way before that (hopefully by the 15th we need them signaling the new build).

And of course you should want to stake the new build because the reward was raised from 1.5 coins to 20 coins. This means the reward is now officially close to 1%

If only 1/4 the network is staking then you should have 4x the probability of reward and average 4% per year.

Also the "exotic spend" is here we might be the first client ever to support it! I've never seen software with locktimes in the interface so this is definitely exciting.

The hash puzzle switches is the identical technique used for Blocknets atomic trade by the way. Although we have no intention of building an exchange it's worth noting how much potential these special payments have.

The most practical uses in this update is Notary, Freeze and Switch. If you guys have feedback while testing it let me know as I've tried to keep it very simple.
510  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BitBay OFFICIAL BITBAY Thread Smart Contracts Decentralized Markets Rolling Peg on: November 04, 2017, 02:46:43 AM
did anyone has the new wallet download ?  all my stake are rejected and im  only connected to 1 node, i want to try the new wallet to stake.

If your stakes are rejected it might be for another reason as the fork doesn't trigger for a little bit. So potentially check the debug log file and see what the issue is. Maybe your computers clock is wrong. That could cause stakes to be timestamped incorrectly.
511  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BitBay OFFICIAL BITBAY Thread Smart Contracts Decentralized Markets Rolling Peg on: November 04, 2017, 02:44:49 AM
It seems strange, if BitBay allows anonymous private unmoderated markets with TOR options, how is it possible to avoid drug trading?

It is more surprising to me that bitbay even tries to have a single point of moderation at all. To me this opens it up for a single target of accountability.
Better to devise another way.

If users want to decentralise moderation in some way that may be best.

It's not accountability because anyone who wants the mod key can have it as long as their intentions are good. In theory the moderation is decentralized. To be honest it's a good question but so far it looks like our users are honoring our request to keep it clean. For the project to get that kind of stigma would not help it's growth in my humble opinion.

For now we shall wait and see. It's definitely a gray area yet nobody has complained or raised any issues yet. The creators of TOR are not responsible either. The mod key exists as a courtesy in case someone wants to volunteer their free time chasing ghosts and hopefully a deterrent to show users where we want the software to shine in a commercial sense. In theory anyone who volunteers to moderate is simply a volunteer. If we have to adjust this in the future we could revisit it later. As of yet, there has been no need. This is still technology in it's infancy.
512  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BlackCoin (BLK/BC) | PoS | No ICO on: November 02, 2017, 07:26:54 AM
Exchanges can of course stake as everyone with an online and unlocked wallet - they would be fools to do so though as people could see that they don't use cold wallets.
This is why we must be aware how decentralized exchanges are important!
Which exchange having most of coins in their wallets?

Are you real representative of this team?

What happening when staking process is accidentally stopped - pc restart or similar. Does staking continues or starts from the beginning?

I was finding 1-2 blocks a day with my 7k wallet like clockwork (even 3 one day) so yeah I can do better trading but I don't have everything on exchanges (as that would be stupid) So I love a good staking fast sending coin to store $ on and have it grow. and since BLK has a set rate of 1.5 per block (739,631 as stated) the rate at which the supply grows is technically a smaller % of the total supply each year  Cool  which is good in the longrun. I think BLK has great fundamentals as a currency and has managed to stay on Polo and Trex this long... lol not many coins from back then can say that, I'd love to see it added to that new Canadian EZbtc exchange as they are about to host Altcoin - BTC trading.

Indeed this is an interesting time in the Crypto-verse as it's growing at what seems to be an exponential rate. Older coins like BLK that have had stable blockchains for years will find lots of new opportunity.
Yes BLK is here whole the time, Poloniex, Bittrex but this is not good enough. Do we have update on Black Halo- Night trader?
What is needed for cooperation with Openbazaar?

Is nighttrader still under development? Though that project wasn't ongoing anymore. Is there some info available if nighttrader is still under development.

It's on hold until I finish the remaining templates and the peg on BitBay. And may never get produced. :|

With that said, I remember discussing here a while ago about the reasons mainly because I didn't want to make a product nobody was going to use. Speed is the name of the game. For NightTrader to work it underwent a couple evolutions.

Firstly I wanted to make it a microtrader or multisig exchange. Then I realized too much liability in multisig exchange (we still hold the 2nd key).
So then there was the microtrader but since so few people actually used BlackHalo, I realized that microtrade won't catch on due to speed.

Then I noticed the only way to do it is atomic trade. So just recently I added "exotic spend". And that gives the option for time locks etc. The feature is not out for  BitHalo/BlackHalo yet (only BitBay since I want to test more on Bitcoins chain when time allows) although in theory it could trade easily between the 3 coins.

However that would be without charts, without the fancy interface traders expect so I wouldn't consider that NightTrader.

Thus the only thing that would work... is a full fledged front end JavaScript atomic exchange. With a security model with brain wallets and no download needed. It would be cross platform so no benefit to BLK there. However we can of course kick back special privileges to Blackcoin holders. To honor the community where I started.

The issue really is just building the whole thing. After years of working on this stuff I'm tired of coding and am setting the remaining features as my milestone. So maybe we can do p2p trading on the coins Halo supports but for a full fledged exchange the way I know people would want to use it, that would require funding and a big room of coders.

I know the security model, and everything needed to build it. Although I'm still unsure of how the orderbook should be shared (good question).

Really I don't want to give false hope... I still hold 1/2 of my Blackcoins from 4 years ago and sank with the ship mostly. If this coin has any hope of revival the community should really start caring about things other than being the "first proof of stake coin". That won't help anymore. Not in this fiercely competitive environment.

So promote what Janko works on, promote and use Halo and if altcoins boom again and the funding is there then it's (possible).

What you very well might see it at least atomic trade between Halo clients since the software already supports that. As you can see in this transaction here on the BitBay chain:

Halo describes it as this...
Type: Switch
Description: These coins are owned by bNgmCcxPKgQQqUe6rhNtbGWowMJFCuxjZ3 if he solves a hash puzzle (password) before the expiration date. After 2017-10-27 12:12:32 UTC then the coins are also spendable by bTuZboysrngsaqJvRj4db4CV2Qa21Q5Jcb

That is an atomic swap or a "dead man's switch with a hash puzzle"... or at least 1/2 an atomic trade. If Blackcoin or BitHalo had a similar transaction at the same time period they could swap with no trust whatsoever.

You may notice the 6a burns which are notifications with throw away inputs attached since the interpreter has a rule of one 6a per output (nonsense rule).
Those burns are actually the script so the other party knows they are a party to it and how to spend it.

I recommend making a multipool which sends payments out as frozen. Since it was the multipool that made Blackcoin famous. Perhaps if that multipool had frozen the coins it paid in then the miners wouldn't be able to sell and it would help support the price. People usually rejected the idea when I proposed it years ago but the software can easily support locktimes.

Sorry for not checking this thread more often. I get really busy coding and multitasking. I'm still hoping for BLK to rebound... it certainly deserves to be higher than it is. If you guys promoted BitHalo then BlackHalo might get attention by being the only coin included with it... just a thought. Bitcoin is the baby after all. Or simply start using the software and special products because if you guys don't use it then who will?

As usual I will always have love for Blackcoin ... hopefully the bear market ends and alts start to recover from this very dark summer.

with the closures of btc38 and other big chinese exchanges I hear they are setting up else where under new names...

Anyone  know what these are and is it a good time to contact them and get bay on them when they start up?

BTER is re-branding as GATE.  I was never a fan of BTER, but maybe this new manifestation will be an improvement.

https://gate.io/

That might be because they stole millions of dollars from their users in a "cold wallet hack" and never paid them back. I would be more sympathetic had they paid users back but no (how does a cold wallet get hacked other than by the owner itself). Personally lost 3 btc on BTER. Not to mention what they did to BitBay and I think there was also a NXT scandal.

So they change their name and do it again. Definitely don't trust BTER.

I didnt know about any of that history it really stinks!!   Angry

The reason I personally was never a fan of BTER was simply because I got the impression it was a cr@p exchange.

Best avoid it then.

Yeah it's mostly old news. Normally when an exchange experiences a "hack" of that magnitude, it shuts down. But BTER is an exception. I'm also very cautious of Bitfinex because 120,000 Bitcoins were "hacked" and then promised back. But the problem is they repaid in USD a while later. This resulted in a friend of mine losing a tremendous amount because he got screwed by missing out on Bitcoins rise. Now imagine if they hacked themselves and the price dropped, they could simply repay in BTC and not USD. So either way it was a problem. My feeling is if you are hacked in Bitcoin, repay in Bitcoin.

It's like someone "loses" 1000 dollars and then promises to pay back the victim. When the time comes they give the amount in the Pesos exchange rate at the time of the loss.

General rule of thumb. Put money on the exchange and withdraw immediately after the trade. None of these exchanges can be trusted. We wait for the popularization of decentralized exchange.

BitBay User Sells 5 Acres of Land Using Smart Contracts

https://themerkle.com/bitbay-user-sells-5-acres-of-land-using-smart-contracts-and-decentralized-marketplace/

Smart contracts have become incredibly popular over the past year or two. While most people associate these with Ethereum, other platforms and currencies utilize similar technology. One individual recently used BitBay’s trustless smart contracts to sell a few acres of land. It was a very risky venture, but things turned out just fine.

It's funny that he says it's risky but doesn't explain why. At no time could the seller or buyer back out of the deal without agreeing.

In fact, this was less risky than normal escrow! This deal would have been impossible without BitBay. How can a person in Europe buy land in California without an escrow? This is like the only way to do that. He sort of down plays the significance of this. Although its great coverage nonetheless.  Cool

Thanks for posting this!

a hash puzzle if/else transaction in bitbay useful for atomic trades and switches
Although this one isn't actually a script I'm going to be using, it would be our first hash puzzle.

i love how you came full circle David. Aaron is real conscious, smart dude and i respect that there was understanding there hats down too the both of you i will be starting my BAY Bag now

Yeah he's cool. I think there was just a misunderstanding. Also on my part, mainly because when offers are sent to the market we allow users to accept them directly. So thus inputs need to be tied up. But in theory I could check the balance to see at least there are funds, not tie up inputs and force all offers to come in as bids the exact same way I do with price tracking. When I gave more thought to what he said I realized for sellers who have lots of items like a massive inventory but only average volume, they would need a feature like that. There is a difference in my code from bids/counters to direct acceptance so that why. It would be a new feature though so I just added it to my notes.

Anyways, hopefully he comes back I sent him a message but no response yet.

By the way I recovered my account. So thanks to Cyrus the mod on bitcointalk. Most likely it was taken over momentarily due to those old hacks of bitcointalk database. Way back when.

david ...

cyrus is ONE HELLUVA admin ...

after over a year - he simply did what the other couldnt or wouldnt ... and allowed me to access my account just by unlocking it - so i could change my details via the still valid email address i had control of ... no hacks - just a simple thing ...

and he is one helluva bloke too ...

#crysx

Cyrus is the hero in this story. He is what Theymos should have been. He responded the same day, added me on Skype we went over everything and he had me sign from an old key. It's the first time in a long time I've been impressed with something on Bitcointalk.

Hi Aaron.

I read through your posts and 100% see your point here. I mean who wants to sell gems for free right now. Bay for this transaction did NOT work out.
Bay right now is not useful to sell on in a bear market. That is why the pegging is coming. Using bitbay market place right now is more for testing or fun to me. I mean selling on bay in a bull market now that's going to beneficial for the seller not so much the buyer. I don't think the bay market place will take off unti the pegging is set in. Also there are probably some other work arounds that can be done for this issue.

This point is clear. However do not sell your bay. I am certain you will be selling now at its lowest or near lowest point.

Also I am thankful for your efforts and interest in bitbay. You sound like a useful person to this community. So even if you don't wish to invest further yet then please stick around and give your input and ideas. The community needs more people with energy and ideas and experience in this field.

I think if you took away the market place and the peg bitbay still has many features more than most alt coins and David is capable of coding pretty much anything. So just having a dev like that and the features  bay has is worth a great deal more than most alts from this era.

I do think the market place and pegging (a form of pegging) will be huge once it is perfected and ready. This time is frustrating because only david is coding but he is doing his best and i see other projects promising what david has already nearly delivered

The UI and ease of use does need a lot of work for mainstream. I think once the web and mobile market place is here adoption will become more of a reality with the pegging.

I think there could be other options other as well as  the pegging to make the market place stable anyway

Altogether bitbay still has a way to go but I still feel it has already more to offer and already functioning than most alts and the full potential is not even near realised.

My advice whether you care to take it or not is do not cash out bay yet. No way this should be down at 400 sats.

I do hope David can get the new release out soon with at least the correct pos % though so investors have a little incentive not to churn.
Also would be great if there was a bay bank offering bonds as I suggested a few developers have PM and told me (they have been reading bays thread) that they think it is a great idea and a working towards something very similar.

Anyway was good to see some effort put into bay and someone taking time to comment on the software and their experience.
If you do leave now then perhaps check back later see what you think in a few months. I feel lose ends are about to get tied up.

Actually I think it did work out, he only needs to wait a month and it should shoot right back up. But yes, for all intents and purposes a volatile coin cannot be used as payment for items on a market for people who do not want to invest or take risks. AKA the peg.

But also like I pointed out, he can accept anything in exchange for his gems on our markets. The BitBay currency is only meant to protect the deal.

The new release by the way is almost done. In fact just today I did the freeze from start to finish in the UI. Here is a screenshot of it and the transaction that spent it. It is a lot of work because it had to have notifications for the script, notifications for all involved users, and those need to be spent as a whole so inputs have to be grouped. Check it out...

https://chainz.cryptoid.info/bay/tx.dws?3057267.htm
That is the original fund for the FREEZE. Notice how there are lots of burns and those show the redeem script. Essential to communicate that and it must be done on the chain. This cannot be put on a volatile Bitmessage since it is related to financials. Chains are meant for financials.

https://chainz.cryptoid.info/bay/tx.dws?4ba8321e29a302488592ce872b28363734fffd1f59ed73c3102bff0c99ef9fe5.htm
That is the spent TX notice the last input was a different address but spent with the same keys.

So yes we are official the first client in the world that does this. The news will ignore it... haha. But we still did it!

Here is a screenshot.
