501  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: January 15, 2017, 11:03:10 AM
Bitcoin seems to have found some sort of support... Looks like China bans the margin trading of bitcoins but I do not think it will help that much. People in China will take bank and consumer loans from conventional banking system and buy bitcoins with those loans and here we go again... Actually that sort of "margin trading" is better for the stability of bitcoin in the future as the positions are not used as collateral and therefore not under the threat of forced liquidation.
Bitcoin might go lower but also it might shoot to the ATH. My opinion on bitcoin is that it will stabilize somewhere around here before the major big bull run. I can see bitcoin growing to 2000-3000 usd per coin but it can go also higher.
I have no idea where Monero will go next. It can be that this project fails and Dark coin will replace Monero but also that Monero will replace bitcoin as the ultimate crypto and anything between of these two extreme scenarios.

What happened? Why the price dropped? Who is selling and why?  Huh
Looks like not shorting the bitch ealier was a mistake, shorting usd/btc and btc/xmr when xmr was over 15$ was a good idea. The price often go down when you do not expect it, that's the nature of trading.

I am not impressed by RingCT, increases trabsaction size too much, xmr is not scalable enough and the confirmation time is too long for mass adoption.

BTW: could it be that some people have inside information such as alphabay closing down or ending xmr-support?

You tend to send me very similar PMs here on forum... "It would have been a good idea to long at x" or "It would have been a good idea to short at Y" or "I should have stick to the oridginal plan" etc.

Risto needs to raise 1.8 million euros to pay taxes, perhaps he dumps Moneros to cover the tax liabilities?
Alphabay has very little trading volume on XMR as far as I know so it should not be too big player in Monerosphere.
Also looks like the lending markets have almost out of Moneros (perhaps some of it is due to the withdrawals to the GUI) which might indicate that massive short positions are opened which tend to be bullish (shorters are buyers).
504  Economy / Speculation / Re: rpietila Wall Observer - the Quality TA Thread ;) on: January 15, 2017, 07:40:57 AM
New testament contains so many childish mistakes that it is not even funny. Apparently you forgot to do your due diligence before you started reading it 5 years ago. You would have saved a lot of time if you would have researched beforehand if it is worth reading or not.
Bear in mind, God doesn't make mistakes and therefore a book that is full of them cannot be from God, not even inspired.
You should go to the basics and study first of all the mistakes of New testament, then make your conclusions.

Why are you praying for human beings/idols?
My suggestion is to pray the Creator only.

There is no other Name in which we are saved except that of Jesus, the Creator.

(Actually dropped in to say that I decided to spend a full day without Facebook and this forum, tomorrow. Just that you would not think they'd catch me on Sunday which is unlikely..)

Now I am realizing you indeed are being gaslighted.
Bear in mind, New testament was written 100-300 AD so nobody from the authors was present when this guy lived. The idea of New testament and xianity is to unify Roman empire, and in fact, the stories of New testament were known in the pagan religions. For instance - correct me if I am wrong - krishna was born from the virgin and is a combination of god and human (sounds familiar?).

When reading New testament it is actually annoying how much mistakes it contains (beginning of the very first verse).
Apparently you have been growing up in Xian environment and never studied New testament in academic manner but in religious manner and you believe anything your priest tells you on Sunday in the church - like it is expected from the sheep.

Since the thread is after all also a publication to keep 'em honest and point out who is behind my problems, let there be a crosslink to my Facebook, as there was a day when I felt really bad. I lamented the blindness of my wife to join in the persecution, to the point that I prayed to Jesus about the matter in public.

That helped. None of the persecution went away, no. I got some extension to the tax case, and they also advised me to avoid any voluntary split-the-finances deal with the wife as that might cause problems when my tax liability is sorted out. This seems to negatively affect my ability to see my children, though, as in the spirit of complete lawlessness, wife has kidnapped them and only lets me to see them if I come to Finland.

What is the ironic part is that when I asked,
ME: "I'd like to have the answer to an important question: "Why can I not see my kids?" Before I open it up in public."

AP: "You can meet them in Finland. Please in the future, only contact my lawyer."

ME: "Can you confirm that you are not participating or knowledgeable in any action that might threaten my physical freedom in case I come to Finland?"

AP: [no answer, 23 hours and counting, including the time that she has been tagged in FB to reply and has read both the original SMS and has been online repeatedly during the day]

What a sad, sad world we live in! Wives plotting against their husbands' lives!!  Cry  Cry

"wife" is now used in place of the former "ex", to indicate that she is the only one who applied for divorce and it only came to my knowledge a few days ago. Until that, everything from both sides was just talk. God hates divorce, so I will also quit using the term as if I wanted something that God hates.

Do not bother to comment unless you read the FB post incl comments.

Why are you praying for human beings/idols?
My suggestion is to pray the Creator only.
508  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: January 14, 2017, 02:25:20 PM
I'm absolutely not an expert in trading stuff, but I feel that the rise in value that occurred from 0.01 to 0.015 occurred almost exclusively in connection with the ads in the two big exchanges who have accepted monero (bitfinex and kraken). Now that there is no more news than that, it stagnates and the weak hands who only came in the belief it would mooner, are doubting. Maybe the whales are trying to identify these weak hands.

That's the noob of the day analysis Roll Eyes

well i don't think that. this comes after GUI update also and if you look the alts what you would buy if you have some BTC to invest on them? to me it's clear i would buy Monero as 1st choice. and of course i would stay away from ETH as i don't like this kind of experiements, i think you remember this DAO hack etc...
BUT nothing ever happened with XMR or BTC (don't say my about exchanges hacked because this is another story...)

XMR has big potentials and in my opinion now that is not expensive BTC holders need have 2-3 times the amount they have in BTC in XMR...

you have 50BTC then keep 150 XMR (of course the more the better Smiley )

If everybody in the bitcoin community would buy 2-3 times the amount of XMR they have in BTC as you suggested there would not be enough coins to feed the hungry bitcoiners. Therefore it is better not to encourage people to buy 2-3 XMR for every bitcoin....

I contacted to the support of Trezor to make a Trezor for Monero.
Here is the answear I got from them:

Hello TrueCryptonaire,

Thank you for contacting SatoshiLabs customer support. I'm happy to help you.

At first please let me tell you that we are sorry about the whole Monero situation.

We are a small company with limited resources (both in terms of manpower and money). At this moment we are focusing on a brand new version of TREZOR with plenty of new features. TREZOR 2 will bring a lot of new potential for developers who want to work on their own projects built on top of the TREZOR 2 code, as it’s software stack will be significantly from the way it is currently in TREZOR 1. In the meantime, we are maintaining the code for the first version of TREZOR.

When it comes to TREZOR 1, we have to be completely sure about the code submitted to its official firmware, as the security and the integrity of the firmware is our responsibility. We always do our best to release things and features which are systematically done and make sense. The unofficial Monero TREZOR firmware did not meet our quality standards, and therefore we halted the merging process into the official firmware while providing feedback to the developer who was working on it. No adjustments have been made since then. Instead, arguments erupted on the social networks.

It is a pity, of course, as we would like to have Monero support implemented into the official TREZOR firmware. We are keen to help the Monero community, as we see a lot of interest in it. At the same time, we receive many requests for integration with different services on a daily basis, and that is why we have to carefully choose our path; we simply can't do everything. If there is a developer for whom it makes the most sense to have Monero implemented into official TREZOR firmware, then go for it, please! Pull requests are always welcome!

Thank you for understanding. Is there anything else I can help you with, please?

Best regards,
Ben

They are basically saying... you do the work we get the profit!

That is true.
They are providing the hardware which is secure enough for my use.
Nano ledger I have not used but nobody seems to like it.

Check XMR/USDT in Poloniex and compare it with BTC/USD. It is beginning to appear that Monero is following bitcoin's price. Are we seeing XMR becoming the real silver to bitcoin's gold? Some say what about litecoin? Litecoin is a 200+ million market cap of nothing.

thats actually interresting, why is litecoin having a 200m marketcap? why do people buy litecoin? i bought because of a "maybe" situation but ive been holding for 4 years now, afaik nothing happening that i should get excited about

When there were still no fiat/XMR exchanges, I was considering using LTC to get in and out of XMR, since the BTC network was so congested. But I guess the need for that has passed.

Bitfinex and Kraken are both accepting Monero as a method of payment for fiat money.

Edit: One of the considerations with setting the tail emission in Monero was to have an inflation rate below that of gold.

I championed for a higher tail emission than the one selected. Gold is a special case as it already exists, and has the multimillennial status. Not that the existing gold is "fairly" acquired by its owners, nor the current mining is "fair" but it nevertheless is the case that gold has its role.

Gold's tail emission is about 1.0% at the moment, given the official figures for gold existing in the world. Most of the gold is mined in the 1900s so the figures can be off for 2 reasons: either most of the ancient gold stocks are unaccounted (this is possible mainly in the scenario that most of what we have been told about human origins is bullshit), OR most of the gold mined has been exported to another dimension by aliens. Despite my tendency to find truth in some of the most fantastic theories, I still subscribe to the official gold stocks figures myself, although wonder where all the gold is stored as it is not in Ft. Gox.

But having a completely non-inflationary currency is unworkable for the reason that the initial supply has to come from somewhere. "No inflation" exactly equals "100% premine", yet the first is taken as a virtue, the latter an abomination.

If it is possible to store real purchasing power (which it may or may not be in practice, since the liquid ways of holding it can be inflated and taxed or economy may contract due to the suppression; the uninflatable things such as land can be rendered illiquid, taxed 100% or more of their annual yield (causing a real net loss for holdings) or simply taken away by force), then any annual inflation has to be smaller than the economic growth in that currency.

Here is wisdom - in that currency basically allows nearly unlimited economic growth, as for an economy of $1 million to grow to the GDP of the world ($100,000 billion), even in the space of one hundred years, corresponds to a brisk 20.2% annual growth. Hence, any inflation below that is essentially a win-win situation for all the old and new holders of the currency, and raises the purchasing power of everyone.

I am afraid Bitcoin and Monero will both be relegated to be legacy currencies because their inflation rate does not scale enough with the realised growth in usership. I am aware that making a trustless software that is able to gauge actual userbase, change the emission rate on the go, and allocate coins to the new users with a non-wasteful mechanism is difficult to make.

The trusted setup for such is already employed in Kansanmarkka.

It depends on how you define inflation. Bitcoin has no inflation if you examine the total supply of bitcoins to be 21 million. The same applies to gold - there is some fixed amount of gold on planet earth assuming no heavenly body will crash on Tellus. The amount will not increase (to make new gold discoveries will not affect the entire gold supply).

RingCT active.
Chinese billionaires, Bitcoin hackers and darknet vendors: feel free to start buying massive amounts of Monero and jack up the price.
Thanks!  Wink

Its already done. You think that the price will go higher than this? I sold my small stash already.

Very slim probability it will go up.
Basically nothing happened pricewise.  Grin Monero was trading at the same price a few days ago as now (by price I mean against bitcoin, not fiat).
514  Economy / Speculation / Re: rpietila Wall Observer - the Quality TA Thread ;) on: January 09, 2017, 08:51:13 PM

In order for crypto to become to become "asset class among metals, land, RE, bonds and fiat," it will need to be able to handle transaction volumes, on the main chain.

No it doesn't. The Monero meetup participant you talked to clearly had no clue what he was talking about. Larger blocks (or cheaper transactions) makes Bitcoin less valuable not more.

The largest problem I have with Monero is the tail emission. It's my second favorite crypto (after XBT of course)

I agree on this point on Monero. I would prefer fixed amount of coins and I tried to promote it (and suggested to smoothen the emission curve from quite early). I guess it would also have had a positive impact on the progress of development as the value of Monero would have gone up earlier.
But now I am fine with the emission and most likely Monero will gain some value against bitcoin from the current value but thanks to the tail emission most likely the most extreme valuations are not likely (that doesn't mean Monero will not reach trillions of dollars market cap - even more inflationary currencies have managed to do so).

^ That explains the Scrooge McDuck outfit Wink

But for once I totally agree with you TC. Actually when you are not speculating but talking about FIRE our financial lifestyles are quite similar it seems. Are you more leaning towards ERE or MMM?

I am not aware of what kind of clothes the young people are wearing these days so that will probably explain my outfit since I am no longer a single.
I am not aware of what MMM means but ERE I am interested indeed. I'd like to just spend my time on studying Talmud, Torah and Zohar instead of working despite I kinda like my work as well. I just consider the search for the ultimate wisdom more important to me.
Indeed I spend very little money, I try to eat as low budget as possible (and that is possible if you do not consume meat).

Nice to see XMR gets publicity also in Indonesia.
I think the community can become Monero evangelists who preaches the good news of XMR.

How cool it would be to make this guy to endorse XMR https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdC3h2m88FC02Yw-A_VESRQ

He has 47 000 followers (I consider everybody over 1000 subs a very good publicity and people with less subs are also cool).  Cheesy

I hope one day bitcoin could go up $100k and I'm so rich that all girls will never look down on me again.

One rabbi gave an advice for a guy from a rich family to go to the date with very ordinary car and wear very ordinary clothes without any status symbols. In that way he can make sure the girl will not fall in love with his money and family wealth but with the guy and the money comes to her as added "bonus".
A relationship that is based on your bank account is not genuine and in my opinion not worth being in.

Looks like the hot money on Polo is fleeing from Etherium - I hope XMR will get the fair share of it.
