Cryptocurrency is anything that uses encryption techniques and can transfer value and pay for goods and services like any other form of money. If you add other functions on top of that, it stays a cryptocurrency + other functions.
542  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin is officially dead on: September 25, 2014, 07:43:58 AM
I am not involve with Litecoin. As a newbie now I am trying to learn about Bitcoin. I have read some articles on litcoin and I don't think Litecoin is totally dead.

it is not, because every coin want to be second only to bitcoin they keep calling LTC dismiss ahead of the time.

Ripple is second, Litecoin is just wannabe second. Cheesy

Ripple is not a coin lol

Although I don't endorse Ripple, but what does your 'not a coin' have to do with anything? Do you imply that if something's not mined, it can't transfer value and thus act as money? Well, you're wrong, there are multiple examples of the opposite. Coin - no coin, you're stuck in 2009-2013 Bitcoin mining era, hello, it's 2014!
543  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-09-18] Bitcoin Core Developer Jeff Garzik Believes NXT is a “Scamcoin” on: September 25, 2014, 07:35:38 AM
This, I'm sick of reading it being called "coins" when its all 100% premined tokens. Its an insult to the Bitcoin technology.

I am sick of reading someone calling NXT "pre-mined", when it can't be mined in the first place Smiley oh, and you're right, they are not coins, they are so much more, depends on which function of theirs you imply.

My one gripe with the distribution and POS is that it encourages hoarding, which doesn't really make sense for a coin that should still be trying to distribute itself as widely as possible... if only to fight the relentless criticism.

Not lately though. Stakeholders are starting to chip in their coins to buy IPO shares on the asset exchange, that's an important part of the distribution process. I don't think it's valid to expect a very good distribution after only 10 months of running. Bitcoin has run for 5+ years and its distribution is far from good and there is no reason to expect it will get any better.
545  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Another Alibaba moment on NXT AE? on: September 25, 2014, 06:46:58 AM
Why do you compare this to Alibaba?

Alibaba had its IPO on New York exchange a few days ago, settling 3rd in total valuation of internet companies, google the news Smiley
546  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Another Alibaba moment on NXT AE? on: September 25, 2014, 06:25:16 AM
I've read both the NxT thread about it and then the FAQ.  I agree with your assessment.  They've already given it a valuation of $1 million and yet there's no prototype, no patent and looks like it's still on the drawing board..  and they're only giving up 10% equity..

Probably the reason why it's done on the NxT asset exchange was if CfB brought this to a venture capitalist (even an amateur one) he would be laughed out of the room.

Of course because I said this I will probably get some angry NxTers gunning for me but that's the power of the NxT cult following.  I'm a rationale person and saw merit in SuperNet (and have some) but this?  No way.

Not really, you shouldn't be getting any angry replies, your comment is valid, except for the part where you say it's a cult which is laughable. You're right in that there is nothing there presented to investors backing this IPO at this point, except faith in CfB and his ability to deliver, which he demonstrated over the past months. I would argue that he delivered more than James. But at any rate it's a very high risk venture like any startup company, only invest what you can afford to lose.
547  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Another Alibaba moment on NXT AE? on: September 25, 2014, 05:58:32 AM
Actually.. although it is a good idea, this sounds lame as there is little upside for investors. They are only selling 10%, so although the funds raised will fund all development and salaries, investors will only see 10% of profits. Also there is no equity, so if the company is sold profits go bye bye?

Quote
We are offering 10% of the total Jinn assets which guarantee the owners of these 10% of all Jinn generated profits. These profits will be paid out via dividends on the NXT Asset Exchange on the first of each month. The assets are not equity shares or voting rights, but entitles the owner to profits only.

I believe this could answer your concern on what would happen if the company is sold.
Their website also explains how the equity will be split and what the schedule is. And this post provides explanation on the legalities, which are a concern, because it's a decentralized exchange. Basically it's a test of the concept of the decentralized exchange, it's all uncharted waters. Caveat emptor.
548  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Another Alibaba moment on NXT AE? on: September 25, 2014, 05:40:12 AM
cool my posts keep getting deleted;

I swear I didn't report you, I never report anyone. I think it's the new rules of moderation, where you can't call something a scam without providing an explanation. "X is a scam because this and this".

But I saw your post and I have a question to you. Do you generally not believe in the concept of decentralized exchange or do you not believe in NXT only?

EDIT: it's a question for everyone.

100+ satoshi in October. 200 satoshi is a high probability before end of this year.

I swear, these companies have no clue about cryptocurrencies.

I swear you're talking with your behind now.
553  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Qora | Released 16 May | 100% POS | New Source on: September 24, 2014, 07:32:43 PM
Do you have good experiences with bter.com? Do they answer in time and solve problems better than poloniex?

I would say they are both about the same in terms of support and how quickly issues are resolved. I mean to say they both are good and reliable enough.
554  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Qora | Released 16 May | 100% POS | New Source on: September 24, 2014, 07:24:10 PM
Does here have anybody a good connection to poloniex and can ask them why they don't solve my problem? I am waiting now 4 days for my withdrawal of Qora. They don't answer. It's the first (and the last ) time I used this service!

Where can I buy Qora to have not so much troubles?

Try bter.com
555  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Read before investing in SuperNet ICO on: September 24, 2014, 07:23:26 PM
Yeah i understand that its a share but for example if theres a 100 dollar earning then theres a 50 token then they will divide it to 50 but  because theres no limit of the token then the 50 can become 10k or more so the dividens will become much lower. Please help me to understand. thank you

There are ~800k tokens or so in the available supply. Look in the SuperNet own thread to see the exact number.
556  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is PoS dead? on: September 24, 2014, 07:13:59 PM
The problem with PoS coins is that nobody mints/forges, or at least not enough. Everyone keeps their coins on an exchange, waiting for the next pump to dump on, in which case the coin staking weight is low and an attacker needs far less than 51% of coins to attack the network. Either that or the exchange keeps the coins in a hot wallet because they are greedily staking themselves, trying to get free money since everyone keeps their coins at an exchange and you end with a situation like vericoin/mintpal. Even when 5% total NXT were stolen from bter, there was talk that the thief could attack the network, probably because less than 10% of total coins were forging, which goes back to the problem of everyone keeping their coins on an exchange so they don't miss the next pump.

All of this is moot for PoW coins since stealing coins or not keeping your wallet open doesn't really affect the security of the network.

Exchanges store about 7% of available supply of NXT. Whoever talked about the thief could attack the network had no clue or was spreading FUD. The amount of NXT used in forging is ~60% per various stats calculations, which means you need at least 300m to attempt to stage any sort of attack.

558  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is PoS dead? on: September 24, 2014, 05:23:26 PM
I was quoting the nxtcrypto.org wiki. Since forging is how NXT secures transactions, who cares what the forging fee is if you can double spend? That is the type of political power any central banker wishes.

ANyway. I'm done here. I love PoS because it's so easy everyone should have their own PoS altcoin. I hate PoW because it's hard. That's why they call it work.

Yeah, double-spend my ass Cheesy sure, you're done here, because spreading FUD is hard, hard work, especially if you don't have a clue on the technicals Smiley
559  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is PoS dead? on: September 24, 2014, 05:12:24 PM
The one that uses (among others) a thinly veiled form of power grab 'by iterating through all active accounts and seeing which one has the highest "hit"." determined by the "amount of NXT you can earn is dependent upon the number of NXT you hold in your effective balance, the total number of NXT "active" on the network."

It's right on your wiki. NXT is not a lottery. There is no randomness. It executes the wishes according to activity which is itself determined by the aggregated amount.

It's not my wiki. The amount of NXT you hold determines probability of forging a block, that's correct. What power grab are you talking about? Forging blocks isn't even profitable for anyone, no matter their size of stake. It gives a measly 0.5% yearly of the owned stake. Forging blocks is not about profits or power, it's about securing the network. What wishes does it execute? Like Santa Claus wishes? Smiley You're obviously making stuff up as you go.

We can just choose between those 3 ?

What about all those other coins around?

Absolutely useless poll until you add all POS-coins.

This poll was set up in April. Create a new one to get updated results Smiley
