So, Borussia Dortmund, surprisingly or not, defeated Manchester City 1-0 with a penalty scored by Goetze in the first half of the match. Honestly, I expected there would be more goals in that opening game, by both teams at least. City had their substitute team out on the pitch though, so maybe that was the reason they couldn't score. A little bit underwhelming result for the people who wanted to bet on over goals.

Today we have the 2nd match of the tournament, Bayern Munich vs PSG. The odds are interesting - Bayern win @ 1.57, draw @ 4.33 and PSG win @ 5.00. The lineups will be available later today and I am very curious to see who the starting 11 are going to be for both teams. Bayern are heavily favored and looks like many of the PSG's stars will be having a break.

Yeah I read in the news today that Ronaldo will not be taking part in the US tour. He was in Greece on vacation with his family and reportedly the Juventus boss flew there to iron out the last details of his contract. Cristiano must have been very satisfied with his stay in Greece as he left a

564  Economy / Economics / Re: What would happen to banks? on: July 19, 2018, 01:33:44 PM
I don't think banks will ever offer crypto deposits or investments to their clients. What the OP has listed will probably not going to work for a number of reasons. First off, banks are not interested in high risk-high reward markets. Banks want to make safe profits with the tiniest amount of risk involved. Wall Street brokers or stock exchange speculators might invest and trade with Bitcoin, banks won't.
Loans in Bitcoin are outright not going to work. Loans are pegged to the local currency of the country and Bitcoin is pegged to fiat. Also in order to get a loan in Bitcoin you would need to provide a collateral in fiat. On top of that Bitcoin is so volatile that loans will change in value overnight and if you have used the crypto loan for purchases with fiat you might end up paying more on your loans. Bitcoin is ALWAYS pegged to fiat because you need to know the monetary value of the product you want to buy.
565  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: July 18, 2018, 05:56:57 PM
Liverpool are going to buy the goalkeeper Alisson from Roma for 66 million pounds. Looks like the Liverpool woes for a new established goalkeeper are coming to an end. I am wondering what will happen to Loris Karius now, like are they going to sell him or loan him out to another club? Do you think anyone from the big European clubs would want him after the massive blunders in the Champions League final?  I think I have heard somewhere that a small newly promoted to Seria A Italian club wanted his services, but I am not sure if the owner of the club was just joking or being serious  Grin
566  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIFA WORLD CUP 2018? on: July 18, 2018, 08:45:42 AM
Maybe VAR refs should just tell the ref what to do and skip the bit where he runs off for 10 minutes to watch a tiny screen.
I don't think the problem with VAR is time, players didn't complain about time wasting because of the VAR. And we usually get those 10min in added time.

President of FIFA Infantino gave a very strange statement before final match which is a pretty angered some Croatian players and citizens. He say that Croatia is in final, but who could expect it?
LOL How is that a "strange" statement?? Let's be honest, before the WC even started, who expected to see Croatia in the WC final? no one, whoever says otherwise is a liar.  What Infantino said was pretty much what the entire world was thinking before the match.

Man Croatia fans saw their team get lucky on multiple occasions and thought they would go on to win the World Cup lol. Talk about delusions of grandeur  Grin I even had some Croatia fan in my World Cup thread telling me that my predictions were shit and they were going to bet on Croatia in the final. Well I am not the one who lost money betting on the inferior team Roll Eyes Yes there are better teams than Croatia that deserved to be in the final that's a fact. Sometimes people need to look objectively and not be so cocky...
567  Economy / Economics / Re: Can Amazon Integrate Bitcoin? on: July 18, 2018, 07:25:25 AM
Amazon don't specifically need to implement Bitcoin as a crypto payment option in their marketplace. Bitcoin just happens to be the most popular cryptocoin at the moment. Amazon, for example, could develop their own token called AmazonCoin or something and run it off-chain with 0 transaction fees. I think the biggest question is if there is going to be demand for new payment options. How many people know about purse.io? Not many I guess. But if Amazon offered a direct way of paying with cryptos on their marketplace without any middlemen like purse.io I think the general interest would be much higher. I think demand dictates what will be featured and what not. Expedia recently removed Bitcoin as a payment option on their website, because the interest of their customers was deemed low.
568  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: International Champions Cup on: July 18, 2018, 06:49:51 AM
Since Juventus is in this cup, I am interested to know whether or not Ronaldo will take part in the games, mostly he'll take part in the later games.

Its going to be fun watching these teams play against one another, especially with the hot transfers and changes. It may not be as serious as CL but it can still be interesting.

Yeah I am curious to know if Ronaldo is going to play for Juventus in this cup. It would be the perfect time for Juventus to show their newly signed superstar. But I think Ronaldo will be probably vacationing and won't be included in the squad, because after the strenuous La Liga season, the record-breaking Champions League win and playing in the World Cup he needs a lot of rest in order to be able to give his 100% for Juventus in Serie A next season. What's more, Real Madrid are playing against Juventus on Sunday August 5th in Washington so if Ronaldo is going to show up at least once it's definitely going to be in this one against his former team  Grin
569  Economy / Gambling discussion / International Champions Cup on: July 17, 2018, 06:28:36 PM
Hey guys anyone interested in the International Champions Cup? It's starting on Saturday July 21st with the match between Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund on Soldier Field stadium in Chicago. The tournament will feature some of the top ranked European clubs and football stars. You can see the club crests of the participating teams below on this image:

The venues will be in 19 different cities all over the world. You can see the locations here:

There are specific rules for this tournament and you can familiarize yourselves by checking out the official website : https://www.internationalchampionscup.com/en/territories/eu/men/international-champions-cup

I know we shouldn't take such commercialized tournaments too seriously as the games can be completely unpredictable, but it doesn't hurt to follow our favorite teams and have a punt or 2 just for fun  Wink
570  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does hard work in gambling count? on: July 17, 2018, 04:18:47 PM
Most gambling will make you loss but sometimes it can depend on luck and guts !
For example : Dan Bilzerian as pro poker player must have guts and luck so he can achieve millionaire status right now !

So if you keep consistent on what you do , you may achieve it too !

Dan Bilzerian comes from a filthy rich family and the money he is betting with is 100% his father's lol. He hasn't won anything substantial in his poker career. His millionaire status is not achieved through any gambling by the way. Dan Bilzerian is showing off on his Instagram account throwing wads of cash around and people think he is some kind of a pokerstar when in reality I dare say he has probably lost more than he has won in his lifetime. He has a big following for a reason guys  Grin Dan has a loooooooooooot of guns though I will give him that  Grin

Let's take Daniel Negreanu for example. He is a self-made poker millionaire and has won quite some tournaments, but I bet that his sponsorship with PokerStars and his books have made him more money than all the earnings from the tournaments he has been in.
571  Economy / Economics / Re: Do you think Jeff Bezos will beocme a trillionaire? on: July 17, 2018, 03:03:26 PM
Do you know what Jeff Bezos is missing in his life? Amazon Crypto Coin. If he launches that coin as an official payment option on Amazon marketplace it will sell like hot cakes. Even better if it's mineable and tradeable on exchanges and has its own wallet. I bet it would be a mighty alternative to Amazon gift cards. By the way there has been a survey about this and it looks like Amazon customers are loving the idea:

Quote
More than half of respondents in a new LendEDU survey said they would use an Amazon-created cryptocurrency for purchases on the site. More than 58% of Prime users said they would consider using "Amazon Coins." And about 45% are open to possibly using Amazon as their primary bank account.

I think Jeff Bezos' net worth will skyrocket if he really greenlights some project like this. And other big online marketplaces will be forced to follow suit or else they will be left behind.
572  Economy / Speculation / Re: When can we expect the bull run again ? on: July 17, 2018, 06:48:00 AM
Bitcoin usually goes up in price near the end of the year and goes down or plateaus during the summer so I guess we will see another bull run in November - December perhaps? It's not a sure thing per se, but that's how the market behaves - in a cycle basically. I don't think we will get a new ATH until next Bitcoin halving due in 2020. If Bitcoin goes back to $10k by Christmas it will be a small win in my honest opinion. However I think the Bitcoin craze that propelled the value to $20k last winter is gone now and crypto investors are more conservative with their money.
573  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does hard work in gambling count? on: July 16, 2018, 07:57:04 PM

I think this can be applied to poker and to poker only. That's a known fact that there are professional poker players who win more than others on average. Although many gamblers think that sports betting is also skill based I disagree with them. I've never heard of a professional sports better who can really prove that he/she is having constant income from sports betting. I think that it's impossible even theoretically because knowing which team will win puts you in a position when you have to risk ten times more of the money than you can potentially win.

that's totally not true , there are many professional sports bettors as well and you can find plenty of them by googling professional tipsters or just checking twitter
these guys have sample of over 4000 picks for example where they show profit , in order to be professional let's say you averaging 3 units profit a month then your 1 unit bet should 500 euros for example and you should be making 1500 euros a month

there are also a plenty of sportstraders as well , try searching for trading betfair professional and you will see how many are generating income by just trading the odds in betfair

Well, I'm aware of the existence of the so called "professional sports bettors", but I can't take them seriously. The thing is that there are millions of sports bettors and you can always find several of them who were so lucky that they were making mostly winning bets during the past years. I've seen many of "professional dice bettors" too, sharing their advises for free and even those trying to sell their strategy. They genuinely believe that they've found a winning method while in reality they were just lucky that their strategy worked several times in a row (or many times in a row, which is also statistically possible). The more bettors you have in a specific field, the higher the chance of some of them having strategies that "work".

I am not subscribed to any paid pro sportbetting services, because pro bettors who sell picks are like snake oil salesmen to me. If winning systems really existed no one would have sold them. I haven't heard of anyone having become a millionaire by reading poker books and then winning a bunch of tournaments. Most if not all of the pro poker players are sponsored by big casinos and they get paid to play in all worldwide events popularizing the brand. I have nothing against the peeps, they just lucked out a couple of times and got famous and now are reaping the rewards of their popularity. The business of influencing people is very lucrative  Grin
574  Economy / Economics / Re: The number of Canadians who own bitcoin doubled in 1 year on: July 16, 2018, 06:30:32 PM
Thanks for sharing OP.
Sad to see a growing % of bitcoin holders not even interested in using it, but guess that was expected.

...
"The 12% who owns it because their friends use it" is the dangerous part. That kind of people only follow the hype and don't know with what they are dealing, usually this is the category of people who fall for bitcoin doublers/ponzis.. and get scammed/hacked because they didn't deepen their knowledge on Bitcoin and security measures.

You could equally apply the same criticism to the most popular answer (58%) of "I hold it as an investment". If you only care about fiat value, you're less likely to do your homework (on security etc).
Yeah, but I am sure it's not only Canadian citizens. If the survey was targetting the worldwide population the trend would show a similar pattern.
It's something I often say here in the forum, Bitcoin is a (digital) currency and should be used as it. It's not like if you buy Bitcoin to become a shareholder. If everyone just holds their bitcoins then the ecosystem will never grow because for example if nobody wants to pay with bitcoin why a merchant should install an option to pay with bitcoin in his shop/e-commerce. People considering Bitcoin as an investment are somehow killing Bitcoin and its purpose.

I think people who get paid in fiat are more likely to invest in Bitcoin long-term and not use it for daily transactions, because they already have debit and credit cards with cash back bonuses so it makes no sense to buy Bitcoin only to pay extra transaction fees for essentially the same thing. On the other hand people who acquire Bitcoin either through mining or doing odd jobs online etc. are probably going to spend some of their earnings for paying bills, buying stuff and so on. I would rather use my Visa and pay 0% transaction fees than spend Bitcoin and get screwed twice - once for buying Bitcoin and then for spending it. These taxes can add up quickly and you will lose money. And if Bitcoin goes down in value you will be royally screwed.
Let's see how much money we are going to lose by buying Bitcoin - bank fees for sending money to the exchange, exchange fees , transactions fees to get the coins out of the exchange, even more fees for sending money through our phone wallet for buying coffee. All this pain in the butt for what? No wonder the investors are 58% they are shrewd  Wink

Let's wait for an official statement from France saying Lloris had a concussion LOL

- Giroud didn't a attempt a shot on target in the whole tournament yet he's a World Champion (and the award to worst striker in this world cup goes to...).
I don't know but I feel that he played in defence more than in offence. He deserves that "award".
Even if he took a more defensive role in this WC, like Griezmann, it doesn't change the fact that he had an embarrassing performance in the WC...not like he cares lol but that statistic will follow him for the rest of his life.

I think Giroud's role in the starting 11 was to be the 'dangerous'  Grin centre forward and pull defenders to himself in order to free more space for the faster wingers Mbappe and Griezmann. I guess this was the reason Didier Deschamps kept him in the first squad and it was working. Giroud could care less though. He is a World Champion with France. On the other hand the naughty Croatian forward Nikola Kalinic who was sent home for disobedience must be foaming at the mouth for missing the silver medals lol  Grin
576  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIFA World Cup 2018 Russia - the Journey on: July 16, 2018, 07:06:59 AM
I can't fully agree with you, mate. Croatia played well in the group stage matches especially the famous one vs Argentina, but in the knockout games their performance was bland at best. They got lucky 3 times in a row. France were dominating their opponents with ease and left them no chances to fight back. Actually Croatia had an easier knockout bracket than France. Do you think Croatia would have beaten Argentina twice and then Uruguay and Belgium? No they wouldn't have. But France did all that in regulation time. As for the 2 disputable goals, I don't think the referee was biased plus he received instructions over the VAR so he couldn't have been solely responsible for those calls. The final should have been France - Belgium full stop. The 2 best teams on this World Cup.
577  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIFA WORLD CUP 2018? on: July 15, 2018, 06:51:17 PM
I still can't believe that Hugo Lloris made such a bad mistake in front of his own goal. Even though that blunder wasn't change the fact that France is still leading, but for me it looks so embarassing. Btw nice to see France win the title.

Hugo Lloris has got the Loris Karius bug  Grin De Gea made some rookie mistakes as well. Looks like it's the season of goalkeeper fails haha  Cheesy By the way Subasic didn't even attempt to save the 3rd and 4th goals even though he had enough time to react. Bad positioning I guess.

And I would like to quote 2 super funny tweets I just saw which summarize it very well:

Loris Karius: I’ve made the most high profile goalkeeping mistake of 2018
Hugo Lloris: Hold my beer

578  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIFA World Cup 2018 Russia - the Journey on: July 15, 2018, 06:20:56 PM
Well, lads, that was it - FIFA World Cup 2018 Russia is over and France are the rightful champions. The Argentinian referee made 2 controversial calls in the first half of the match namely that free kick for no apparent foul against Griezmann and that penalty when Perisic handled the ball in the penalty area. Now, I don't think Pitana should be accused of shady decisions if the VAR was positive there were fouls indeed. Griezmann was already falling before he got in contact with the defender so that was a mistake. About the penalty, well, Perisic had enough time to move his arm closer to his body and avoid touching the ball. It looked like he deliberately hit the ball. Anyways, France were better especially in the 2nd half and deservedly won the cup. Some trivia - Giroud has no shot on goal for the entire time he has been on the pitch in Russia  Grin

Mbappe got the award for best young player.
Modric was awarded best overall player.
Kane got the golden boot for most goals.
Courtois was awarded best goalkeeper of the championship.

It has been a crazy tournament with many unexpected twists and turns. Heavy favorites were dethroned early and promising young teams shined. I don't know about you, but I had lots of fun  Grin

So without further ado it's time to wrap this thread up.
Cheers everyone.

Practice makes perfect if you are a chess player  Cheesy Professional gamblers can have so many ups and downs in one month's time that the stress alone will make you quit if not the losses. I think the only way to consistently beat the bookies is arbitrage betting. Mathematics can't fail you at the end of the day. Everything else is gambling. People can not predict with certainty the outcomes of events they have no full control over. Otherwise all the statisticians and analysts would have been winning all the time and all the houses would have been out of business by now  Cheesy I think if a bettor waged on every favorite in Russia from start to finish they would have ended in the red because stats lie. Performance can change, player fitness can change, injuries can happen and there are other factors that can alter the outcome of competition. I am trying to say that there is no clear-cut 100% working formula for success when luck is involved.
580  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Time to stop using Bitcoin as a form of investment and start using it as payment on: July 15, 2018, 07:51:23 AM
One big drawback of Bitcoin which makes it inapplicable for small daily purchases is the transaction fees. These fees will rack up rather quickly if you don't use cash for things as small as a bottle of water or bus tickets. Bank-issued cards have 0% fees when used at a POS by customers, because the merchants are covering the fees unlike Bitcoin where we need to pay the miners so that we can move our coins around in due time. Money transmission of sizeable sums is where Bitcoin shines though, because banks charge more for international transactions while Bitcoin has a flat fee which is extremely small in comparison. In a nutshell, Bitcoin can save you a lot of fees when sending big amounts and cost you dearly when buying small things frequently.
