561  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is the US government about to sell over $1 billion worth of Bitcoin? on: March 13, 2023, 10:47:35 PM

It was a total of over 144,000 bitcoins seized, and that was in 2013...
1 BTC in 2013 = ~100$
144,000 X 100= 144,000,000$

Why do you think they didn't sold everything in 2014,2015,2016, and so on?

Let's do the maths while 1 BTC was 60,000$
144,000 X 60,000 = 8,640,000,000

Why should they refuse free money? Especially during nowadays, since they give free money with millions to finance the war in Ukraine...
At least for sure, the americans citizens won't refuse to receive a $100 cheque.
I don't know but if I was POTUS, I would say let's take the money, I can build few hospitals, with few schools... Tongue
The huge fiscal and monetary support measures since the Covid19 crisis have created severe tensions in their economy, even if its activity has recovered quickly since.

This said, already 100,000 bitcoins have already been auctionned years ago.

Look at the 200 millions USD stocked on Coinbase, it's perhaps not a huge amount you could say. But that's what they give to Ukraine every XX weeks. I don't knox exactly but it appears to be every months they give free money to Ukraine. Is it a kind of airdop? LOL.

If it is an attempt to further dump the price, I would say they're very bad in their job. It would have been much more efficient to send all the bitcoins and sell everything for a total of 1 billion. And nowadays, they use more efficient methods to do it via regulations, stablecoins stuff, annoying binance, etc....

To see how people react: well, look at the price, nothing happens and the price has been down for about 3% (and today in green). And as usual, only the weak hands panic on Twitter, knowing most of them already got rekt few months ago and leaved the market. I mean, since we already got a purge, they're less and less...

If I'm correct, China is now the biggest whales (or one of the biggests). While it makes sens to keep their bitcoins to perhaps use them for the internationnal commerce in case of internationnal sanctions, it doesn't really make a sens for The USA
562  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Is the US government about to sell over $1 billion worth of Bitcoin? on: March 10, 2023, 11:44:35 PM
Question: Do you think the US government is about to sell the 49 000 BTC related to the Silk Road market?

the two public addresses where the bitcoins were stored:
Adresse 1: bc1q5shngj24323nsrmxv99st02na6srekfctt30ch
Adress 2: bc1q2raxkmk55p000ggfa8euzs9fzq7p4cx4twycx7

About 40,000 bitcoins have been transfered to another wallet
But what is interesting is about 9,900 bitcoins seized have been sent to Coinbase
Transaction d43068e021701606724af16aeb8197a3530021d45a16d5b830b465da6c5ce9e6

It's not their usual modus operandi. It seems to me that they usually sell them at auctions, as it already happened previously.
In any case, there must be a reason to have sent ~200 million dollars on Coinbase and it seems to me that it was not to play with dolls.

Testing something, or just looking for another method to sell the bitcoins other than an auctions, while selling not everthing at once of course but by fractions (again, as they ususually do)

Not the right timing to sellI would say...

On the DNM? None should be trusted.
It's better to use the markets providing an internal escrow service but it's shouldn't be considered safe 100%

First, to understand you clearly. What's DNM? Is it an exchange?
Never heard about DNM?

chipmixer + cryptomixer + wasabi wallet = best choice fox mix your coins  Cool

yeah, and I remember how you wasted my time before. At the time, I've read each page of each ANN topic related to a mixer.
That was a lot of reading...

Here is what you do on Bitcointalk with your friends. You make few posts in different topics, then wait a few days to edit your comments to include a phishing link, or a crappy blog full of phishing links..
So many posts I reported
565  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk monthly traffic analysis and stats on: March 08, 2023, 10:31:46 PM
Google does not consider a blog and a discussion board (forum,...) in the same way. This is a well-known fact, but to give an example, Google's bots visit a forum more frequently than a blog (every xx minutes for a forum, once a day for a blog. Considering you haven't written a rule in the robots.txt file of course)

(And there is a good reason to do so, but that's another topic)

The default SMF is enough to optimize SEO, of course they can install a mod but to be honest it's pretty useless. The forum is optimized sufficiently as it is and changing something won't do much.

Not to mention the fact that Bitcointalk has been considered by Google as an "authority site" for years. And when it comes down to it, SEO is pretty useless.

There are so many keywords with which Bitcointalk comes up on the 1st page of the SERP

That's for ON-site SEO, now for the OFF: does Bitcointalk need anything given the mentions it already has? Wikipedia, Forbes, WJS,...

These traffic analysis tools are to be taken with caution. Since you don't have access to the server, such statistics can be considered as not accurate (or not very accurate).

And to stay about forum and SEO. https://youtu.be/WSkETCRe7Ic
https://searchon.withgoogle.com

Since it changed, we can say the SERP do the job now.

Hello,

Can you confirm the following:
Accounts are in euros, right?
For the employee's cards, I can set individually a daily limit (and not a monthly limit as we usually get.

it is understandable for me.
just look at the topics in this section and see the kind of welcome they receive.
No wonder why some companies don't want to come to bitcointalk

@Rocou
sur les déchets nucléaire étant "minimes".
source?

Alors les gros camions qui sortent des centrales pour évacuer les déchets sont vide à l'intérieur? Ca m'étonne un peu sinon ils prendrait un Kangoo comme les facteurs

http://cyberds.free.fr/Dechets%20nucleaires.htm

568  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Bisq - Exchange, Decentralized. on: March 03, 2023, 12:36:22 PM
No, it's a laptop.

Since then, I tried it on another laptop and it's the same thing. But I'm not surprised since it has the same specs.
Bisq uses a little less than 2gb ram on my side, and Win 10 alone uses ~2gb ram

I will soon receive a Beelink SEi12 with 16 gb ram for my house. As I only need it for a bare metal hypervisor (ESXI), I will have plenty of memory for Bisq. (hopefully)

But thank you very much, I have rarely met a guy on the web willing to give me something for free.
Trully appreciated  Smiley
569  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [List] Gift cards providers on: March 02, 2023, 09:34:44 AM
Does it also work for websites outside US?

I believe yes.

Yesterday, while discovering the website, I saw they mention a 2% fee when you use the card to pay in another area/currency
Another hint is the fact it's translated in others languages, so they can serve people outside USA. And there is list of restricted countries, so others can use it,...and since it's not using USD...

https://www.cairn.info/revue-pensee-plurielle-2009-2-page-97.htm

et sinon,
En France, il y avait un truc qui s'appelait la Compagnie des amis des noirs
Je pense que c'est les ancêtres de LFI Cheesy

En Mésopotamie (quelque part par là) il y avait une région ou un peuple qui s'appelait Halab
572  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: France and crypto regulation on: March 01, 2023, 10:46:16 PM
It isn't "in the wake of the FTX collapse". It's simply an application of the European law (MICA) coming soon, which has been planned for some time. It's just that the country is ahead of the rest of the European countries.

And of course, companies that already have a PSAN license will be able to continue their activity.
Business as usual.

Basically, the new law some politicians wanted was almost impossible to get because it requires companies to have insurance, which is almost impossible for a crypto company. Instead the Senators agreed on a 'stronger' PSAN licence'.

When I say 'stronger', it's not so strong compared to the basic PSAN licence:

- an effective security and internal control system
- an internal policy for the prevention, detection, management and communication of conflicts of interest;
- clear and non-misleading communication with their clients;
- publication of their fees, etc.

There are over 60 companies with the PSAN licence and surely most of them already apply such directives. Ledger, Coinhouse, Zebit, Binance, Bitstamp and so on...
573  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2023-02-24] CNBC -For the Black community, bitcoin represents an opportunity... on: February 28, 2023, 01:42:41 PM
Oh no! Another black lives matter article?  Cheesy
When I started to read it I was saying "another bullshit from socialists!"

See the arguments used:

- 2 events that happened 100 and 200 years ago! Come on...

- People unbanked are mostly black people in The US. This is not true and they give the proof themselves.
Notice it depends on the actual income and not on the race. If you're poor, you have more chances to be unbanked, no matter what your race is.

Percentage on unbanked people by income and race:

Quote
For example, Know Your Customer laws can keep someone with a certain last name from being able to register for an account, she said

That a direct lie. Do you think black guys like snoop dog or puff daddy are unbanked? No of course and again that's because they have enough income. I take the extreme but that's to show my point.

Here is wy people are unbanked there

Why are people unbanked? According to the FDIC Survey of Unbanked and Underbanked Households, people are unbanked because they can't meet minimum balance requirements, lack of trust in banks, have privacy concerns or don't want to pay high banking fees.

And who was quoted in the article? Lamar Wilson, founder of crypto-focused network Black Bitcoin Billionaire
lol? I'm going to make the network White Bitcoin Billlionaire, only for white people. I'm sure I will be called racist there Cheesy

And debunking a myth:
The first slavers were the blacks and the Arabs, 200 years before the whites. That's the whites who stopped slavery
574  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin to Amazon goods? on: February 27, 2023, 08:25:25 PM

You don't need to have an adress in The USA. To give you an example: I live in France and there is amazon.fr.
Yet I sometimes buy on amazon.de and use my french adress...

Bingo. Here was your mistake. Adding 4,000$ to a brand new acount on  Amazon. It's a well know flag to see Amazon locking your account.
Bitrefill, for exemple, display a message to avoid adding a huge amount.
I know in such case Amazon asks for document much more than the police. I've been in the same situation during 9 months, and finally got my account back by playing the idiot village card Grin

Does this site require kyc on more expensive purchases, or is it no kyc across the board?

It has been years since I used the website but if I remember correctly there is no KYC verification for "Shoppers" but only for "Earners"

They said that I accepted their new policies, which is not true at all.

You did.

You agreed with the terms of service while joining the site.
And the TOS exactly say, they can change the rules and if you don't agree, leave it, otherwise it means you accept the contract between you and Localbitcoins.

You didn't, because of what you call a "bug" but if you really wanted you could follow their rules and transfer out your coins.
You had to follow the enhanced KYC verification... because it is the laws... and so their (new) rules...

577  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What after localbitcoins.com shutting down on: February 26, 2023, 12:56:03 PM

I believe I was saying it in this topic, or another one: These platforms will all have to follow the same pattern sooner or later. There is no reason why the rules on money laundering should be different depending on the type of exchange. P2P marketplaces or a CEX, it will make no difference. There is a myth with people thinking that sites like LocalBitcoins or Paxful are decentralized because they are P2P. This is not true.

Anyway, who can believe a company can operate by saying "I don't care about laws".

It will come little by little because each platform operates in a different country (with different laws and different speed to apply them).
You can compare with the number of countries considered as tax havens. Look at the list of countries 30 years ago and compare it with the current list.
It's the same: soon or later they follow the same rules.

Changing the business model from Paxful to Binance doesn't change much in the end. The same laws and the same earning potential for the company. It's just a matter of the customer's base. Not to mention the CEX industry is already quite saturated and it's not easy to be competitive

579  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Survey regarding our Bitcoin Blockexplorer topic on: February 26, 2023, 12:12:58 AM
Basically the topic you mention is not fully displaying because it's too large (to me at least, zoom 125%).
Thinking about it, dates in the Bech32 and SegWit columns could be removed (because not so usefull).
Same goes for the "rated by" column.

But that's just an opinion

However, I would say

Question 1:
It depends on what criteria you're giving a note. If you respect your criteria there is no need to change a note since you've already given what looked fair to you.
I would say  8/10 is an appropriate rating.
10/10 means the perfection, nobody and nothing is perfect

Question 2
Remove "comments" column from our table - Yes
I didn't even know there is a "comments" section, since it's too large as I said.

Question 3
Why not if you think the information is necessary
Include comments in "hover format" - Yes
580  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The FSB brings more regulations worldwide for this summer: More MICA on: February 24, 2023, 09:58:38 PM

It does the opposite. More regulations there are and harder it is to use cryptocurrencies.

When I started to use it, about 10 years ago, I was able to use it without to be bothered with something, or the need to think twice before paying something with BTC. Bitcoin has never needed governments and their laws to evolve. For example, there were no laws for years, yet Bitcoin grew.

Nowadays, they bother me with KYC, they bother me with taxs and accounting, they bother me because when I pay for something the merchant can ask my ID. I have no use of a decentralized currency in a centralized system in which a few crooks control and adapt to their needs.
Adding devs selling their soul and their ethics because hey, finally, money is power, you can always buy everything, as long you pay a correct price

Take a company's point of view: if if wants to run its business, it need to do more paper work. Control inflows-outflows via algorythms, blockchain analytics companies, gets a licence, and so on...

Quote
When there are no regulations, and you do something with crypto, you are not entirely sure if it's legal or not

If there is no law, that means it is legal. Otherwise a country creates a law to frame it or to ban it.

Quote
but trillions go through banking systems and Wall streets and London market, these all could go into bitcoin if the law says it's okay to do it, and that means price could be as high as a million dollars with that kind of money.

Speculators is perhaps the last thing Bitcoin needs. Less there are, better it is.
Otherwise we enter in the same trap of the capitalism's cancer.

edit

when people transition from fiat to CDBC the incentive wont be that they will give good savings interest or give out $1000 for free to each new account. they will simply keep CBDC inflation at 2% while letting native fiat inflation go to stupid hyperinflation thus change the ratio from 1:1 swap to cbdc1:$1.1 ->c1:$2 and so on thus debasing and hyper inflating native fiat

this will work well for banks as their debt contracts for $32trillion become only 16trill CBDC units if the ratio is 1:2thus, which a side effect is if bread was say $2 in fiat in 2022 would be $4 in fiat but 2 CBDC units

thus appearing as offering a retail discount for goods/services if you use cbdc units
