And when it comes to issues of human rights, if Hamas puts down its weapons, then there will be peace. If Israel puts down its weapons, then there will be no Israel.
1.) That's a really old and very poor propaganda line, and has never been true.

2.) That has nothing to do with the comparison that you tried to make. Hamas has nothing to do with the Right of Return or the expulsion of Palestinians in the 40's or the 60's.
So 200,000 came from Turkey and Iran, and a further 800,000 came from the Maghreb and the Arab World. If Hamas puts down its weapons, there will indeed be peace.
You mean there will be permanent occupation. The Netanyahu administration has shown no interest in working with the West Bank leadership despite the fact that they aren't violent. The same was true of Olmert. The notion that if Hamas put down its guns (something I would support) that everything would be fine and dandy rather ignores 90% of the abuses that the Israeli government commits on a daily basis.

I want to make a thread about the misconceptions of Israeli culture because I have seen, both online and offline, people who do not truly understand Israeli culture.

1.) In Israel, there are around 7.8 million people. About one hundred thousand to two hundred thousand are Arab Christians. 1.6 million are Arab Muslim. 6 million are Jewish. Out of those 6 million Jewish people, 3 million are European, 2.9 million are North African and Southwest Asia, and about one hundred thousand are Ethiopian. So about half of the Jewish people in Israel are from outside of Europe and the other half of the Jewish people in Israel are from Europe. Do not let anyone tell you that 90%+ of Israeli Jews are European. That is simply not true.

2.) Hebrew, a Semitic language similar to Arabic, is spoken in Israel. They do not speak Yiddish in Israel.

3.) Israel has Hebrew rap and Hebrew heavy metal music. Not everyone in Israel is super religious and shuns the media and pop culture. For the most part, except observing Shabbat (the Sabbath), Israel is a fairly secular country.

4.) The former President of Israel, Moshe Katzav, is of Iranian descent. The leader of the Kadima Party in Israel, Shaul Mofaz, is also of Iranian descent. There are many Jewish people of Sephardic/Mizrahi (Arab, Berber, and Iranian Jewish) descent in positions of political power in Israel.

5.) People say Israel expelled 700,000 Palestinians in 1948. Well, between 1948 and 1967, 1 million Jews from North Africa and Southwest Asia were expelled by Arab countries and fled to Israel.

6.) Not a misconception. But a fact. Miss Israel 2013 is of Ethiopian descent.

7.) Another fact. An Israeli company invented the first USB drives.
You have a nice list, but the above is inaccurate and carries with it problems besides. It is absolutely true that many Jews were expelled by Arab countries or fled pogroms / potential violence, but to simply attribute every immigrant that came to Israel from Arab lands as one that was forcibly expelled is completely inaccurate.
If there weren't 1 million Jews living in Arab countries in that time period, then how did Israel's Sephardic/Mizrahi Jewish population go up from 1 million to 3 million by 2014? They had to first immigrate to Israel and then have a population boom.

And when it comes to issues of human rights, if Hamas puts down its weapons, then there will be peace. If Israel puts down its weapons, then there will be no Israel.
How? Because you're counting Jews that came from non-Arab states like Turkey and Iran in your numbers. You're thinking of Jews that came from Muslim states, not just Arab ones.

Furthermore, I've never been comfortable with the two incidents being linked like this. Doing so seems to carry some intention of downplaying what was and remains a highly immoral and criminal acts (the expulsion of Palestinians from Israel). The fact that other criminal acts were engaged in elsewhere in no way diminishes the legal responsibilities that Israel carries with regards to the Right of Return for Palestinians. Nor does it in any way deminish the gross abuse of human rights carried out by early Israeli administrations and maintained by all future Israeli administrations since.

Just throwing that out there. Side note: there weren't even 1 million Jews living in Arab countries in total during that time period.

566  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Jury: Ventura Verdict - Wins $1.84 Million on: August 05, 2014, 10:19:53 AM
I'm not sure its legal for a judge to order a jury to come to one conclusion and deny them the option of a hung jury. That said I think a hung jury is the best solution. it lets ventura's ego off the hook  without taking money from the widow. It does however show that the deposition which some accused of being lies because "they didn't remember and if you can't remember you're lying" wasn't as powerful as some had thought it would be for ventura.
Strictly the judge's call, but it is not uncommon for the judge to ask the jury to give it another shot before throwing in the towel.  A lot of time and money is invested in the trial.

I would think after this long deliberation, the likelihood of them coming to a verdict is very small, and I'm a little surprised the judge did that, sent them back again.  But I would guess he will dismiss them at the end of today if they don't reach a verdict.
I'm not talking about the judge sending the jury back to try again, I'm talking about the judge telling the jury they cannot be hung.  Reconsidering that statement I suspect it was just part of the jury instruction in order for them to return a verdict instead of telling them they can't be split.

What, the cop was wetting his pants because of a little dog? Some police officers seem to think that violence is the first and last resort. I'm glad this horrible individual is off the force. He just makes things worse for the better officers on the police force.

Why do these conservative women support a religion that tries to control other women and their rights as Americans?

Why do they continually support state laws that strip women of their rights?

Are they brainwashed?
Brainwashed, scared, really don't like women, afraid someone's going to come along and rock their little raft, miserable as it is.   Who cares.
570  Other / Off-topic / Re: Israel's future war: War of God and Magog on: August 04, 2014, 05:03:14 PM
I want to add something, just having had a discussion with my wife that reminded me of this.

I think dispensational thinking is the best explanation of what we read in the Bible.  But it itself, unlke the Bible, is not the Word of God.  So, what I think can and does happen sometimes is that seeing this pattern in the Bible, is to then read into the BIble certain sections that do not fit smoothly into it.

Off hand, as an example off hand, when in Rev 4, the Apostle John is told to come up here (heaven), to equate that with the rapture is stretching it.  I don't think someone would get that just reading those passages; I think the thinking is that if one comes to the conclusion that the rapture is before the tribulation, and seeing Rev 4 as the transition to the tribulation, one then assumes the satement (come up here) is referring to the rapture.

Now, that can happen with even non dispensational approaches.
I don't see Rev 4 telling us anything about when the rapture is, but we do see it is when Christ returns and everything is pretty much burned up and laid to waste. Don't see anyone hanging around after that for anymore tribulation. It bold relates to the last part of your post

2 Peter 3;10;11;12;13
10But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.11Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt with intense heat! 13But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.

The liberal women demanding that society owes them free abortifacients is like drug addicts demanding that the society owes them free drugs.

Do I need to repeat my argument that the next president needs to be a Republican, any Republican? This woman as well as probably one or two more justices will likely retire during that time frame. Does anyone with more than half a brain and even a rudimentary understanding of the Constitution want more associate justices like Mrs. Ginsburg on the bench? There can be no more important mission than preventing that from happening.
Amen to that but lets hope the choice isn't the lesser of two evils and this issue is the final deciding point. Too many times I've either bit my tongue while I voted or simply voted none of the above.

This is where the lefties got the idea that employers could deny all contraceptives when in fact the suit dealt specifically with abortifacients which I wish she would stop calling birth control. Her idea that the Constitution should be interpreted not based on law but on outcome is proof she doesn't belong on the court. And her idea that the decision was split based on gender and men don't realize what a woman feels is more bunk.

There is no justification at all for the size of the federal government, NONE. We could shrink it to half the size it is and most people would never notice the difference. But you and yours want that power; and nothing will stop you. Even as it inevitably will destroy the country. And then you will blame it on bush even if it comes in 50 years.
I'm in favor of a smaller government and a reduction of government spending too there pumpkin, I simply have standards when it comes to data You should try it sometime.

How is the U.S. different from Argentina?
How about in every possible imaginable way? The dollar is the reserve currency. People buy our debt with 0% real return. And people do so in large quantities.
with the US massaging many of their fiscal figures and stats most of the time (usually debt and annually adjusted monthly gdp figures), plus a drop in the strength of € to $ now 1.33, and an emerging housing bubble, the forecast is a bit grim for the next few years ahead
Republicans refuse to undo the the Bush tax cuts which are largely responsible for our budget deficits as government spending as a percentage of GPD is about what it was under Reagan.
yeah sure. How much of a percentage of the Deficit has come since 2008?

Which by the way had a Democrat House and Senate? Even before Obama took over?

your pathetic attempt to try and blame everyone else but Obama is amusing.
You think Obama must be the bestest strongest president evar!! to be able to pass obamacare, but "those damned republicans" are keeping him from doing anything about the 99.8% increase in govt debt since he took office.
If you wanted to be honest about it you'd look at deficit changes, not debt changes.
and you show your ignorance by trying to say

"FORGET EVERYTHING ELSE IN THE CONSTITUTION"

by that alone you show your stupidity. The whole constitution is one document; and it all has to be taken into consideration. But you want to claim otherwise so that you can twist it to your own strange agenda.

Your stupid crap about congress making no laws about anything ever is such total typical libtard stupidity its hilarious.

You want to make the world the way you want it and anything that gets in the way is 'wrong' or 'misinterpreted' etc. of course you want to go that way; not admit that most of the debt we have right now came from your messiah Obama.
When seeking to see how much debt the Obama administration itself is adding to the US government, it is a bit disingenuous to attempt to tack on the accumulation and growth of debt from previous administrations. If you are interested in President Obama's spending, why not look at the year to year actual budget deficits that his government operated under?

Do you really need the dishonesty in order to justify your dislike for his presidency?

National debt and Social Security, among other topics:

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/08/01/op...ting.html?_r=0
Every month, my mom receives a yellow and green benefit check for $1,600 from the Treasury. I expect she’ll keep collecting those Social Security checks for a long time. She’s crushing 50-year-olds at bridge and doing yoga. Apart from their amount, the checks look identical to the $400 checks she receives every six months on her small remaining holdings of Treasury bonds. Yet Uncle Sam’s obligation to send her the $400 checks is recorded on its books, whereas his obligation to send her the $1,600 checks is not. (I’m 63, but not collecting benefits yet.)

True, Social Security benefits could be cut by Congress and the president. But so can official debt, as Argentina’s likely default reminds us. The prospect of formal default by the United States is remote. Informal default via the inflationary, easy-money policies of the Federal Reserve since 2007, is more likely. (Social Security is pegged to inflation, so while inflation would help with our official debts to creditors, like China, it is far from a panacea.)

Social Security’s hidden debt is just a small part of the story. Two weeks ago, the Congressional Budget Office released its annual long-term budget outlook. The good news: This year’s deficit — about 3 percent of gross domestic product — is the smallest since 2007 and way down from the peak of almost 10 percent in 2009. The bad: Without action, the deficit will grow “notably larger” starting in about four years, a result of our aging population, rising health costs and the new subsidies for health insurance.

Even worse, the budget office raised what’s called the alternative fiscal scenario, the most realistic projection of fiscal outcomes absent major policy changes. Based on these estimates, I calculate that the “fiscal gap” — a yardstick of total government indebtedness that I’ve worked on with the economists Alan J. Auerbach and Jagadeesh Gokhale — was $210 trillion last year, up from $205 trillion the previous year. Thus $5 trillion was the true deficit.

The fiscal gap — the difference between our government’s projected financial obligations and the present value of all projected future tax and other receipts — is, effectively, our nation’s credit card bill. Eliminating it, would require an immediate, permanent 59 percent increase in federal tax revenue. An immediate, permanent 38 percent cut in federal spending would also suffice. The longer we wait, the worse the pain. If, for example, we do nothing for 20 years, the requisite federal tax increase would be 70 percent, or the requisite spending cut, 43 percent.
The section that you quoted was a compilation from working with the Cato Institute; one which they didn't bother linking to. I tend not to trust studies done by authors who like to cite themselves unless I can look over their methodology myself. This author doesn't seem to be that interested in the transparency of his work and simply wants us to take his word for it.

From what I know about bush meat, it is burnt, smoked and dried so HOW can the Ebola virus survive? And if one is to believe this article, then areas like Peckham, Dalston and Brixton, would've been wiped out decades ago.....so would the whole of West and Central Africa!
