581  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero under scrutiny of the FBI on: February 01, 2017, 04:32:05 AM
if the transactions are not connected to child porn, arm's dealership and drugs. There are nothing to worry about.
How do you prove that they aren't?
Monero is made for crime basically, it will never be allowed to succeed by the powers that be.

Bitcoin at least allows an online 'papertrail', Monero has as its USP something that will ultimately make it unusable by the wider public!

No, that's incorrect... Monero was created for privacy.

Privacy != criminality

Privacy does have its positives in protecting one from being targeted for ransom or targeted advertisements based on your spending habits or competitors knowing who your suppliers are.

This whole idea of privacy is only for criminals is like saying all people who take a shit with the door closed are criminals.

IF that is the case get rid of your doors, locks, curtains, and all passwords to all of your accounts. Make your password [BLANK]. Oh and then after all that post your bank statements on the internet for all to see if privacy is only for criminals.

Monero allows user opted transparency via the view key.

Oh the butthurt in this thread.

I guess if the FBI thinks it is something they need to pay attention to, that would then legitimize the technology behind Monero eh?

Looks like Dash/ZCASH ain't much of a worry for the FBI it would appear.
583  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [FREE] Monero Brass Coin Giveaway on: February 01, 2017, 01:32:05 AM
UPDATE:

Currently there is a pretty large backlog of giveaway requests that will be going out in the next week or two.

I've gotten several undeliverable addresses and the envelopes were sent back to me.

As the giveaway gets closer to ending (the 1000 brass coin limit) the order in which requests are made will be in the order they ship out. Once the limit has been reached I will post in the OP and modify the thread title to note such.

Please keep in mind that if you haven't gotten your coin, any number of reasons could be the cause (lost in the mail, theft, returned, undeliverable).

There are many things I have no control over given these are being shipped first class mail with no tracking/signature etc.

I will not resend shipments of giveaway coins that do not arrive in the possession of the requestor.

I've gone through my email requests and have spent many hours getting these packaged and shipped out. If they get to you, they get to you, if not, then someone else has your coin... Embarrassed

All for now  Smiley

(W)onero?!  Ha.

Upside-down...kinda irritating when ANACS does that. (As in, the hologram is NOT the front..arrrg.)

All good, though.  Wink

Haha, well, to be fair, the holo is usually on the front of the Cas coins they grade, but in this case, smoothie could also be blamed for affixing the holo upside down though, too, right!? Tongue

If my memory serves me correctly these coins were designed just like all US minted/circulated coins. You flip them vertically not horizontally to have the back (or front) show up right-side up.

The only coins that do not do this are my KAMEHAMEHA coins which flip horizontally.

"All countries are advised to consider the creation of the crime of unexplained wealth."

whoa!

That crime is only reserved for the non-elite.

We live in a broken world where the rules only apply to those that don't own 95% of the world's wealth.

This was very well done. I can't speak personally to the accuracy of all the technic claims but the format and structure is well thought out.

Good job.
588  Economy / Collectibles / Re: ⭕️LEALANA BRASS XMR COINS FOR SALE ⭕️ on: January 21, 2017, 08:16:16 PM
Can you pick the SN's contained in a roll or are they randomly selected?

I may also be interested in splitting a roll if someone is on the fence about getting a whole one.

They are randomly selected.
589  Economy / Collectibles / Re: ⭕️LEALANA BRASS XMR COINS FOR SALE ⭕️ on: January 20, 2017, 09:03:12 PM
Please share what you have when you have it, it would definitely make less work for me (hopefully) and help users of the coins and other physical XMR coins.  Grin

Will do.  The main problem (which isn't actually major) is that I can't get the hashes to match still.  This doesn't affect whether you can verify the
balance of the coin, but it is a bit annoying and is another check which would be nice to do.  I've tried sha256, keccak, cryptonite with the start and end
tags either included / not included.  Extra newlines.  Saving with Windows newline format, unix newline format.

So I'm missing something that someone else might catch if I just put it out there as it is.

Another 'problem' is that it's C++ code using Monero libraries and at the moment only compiles on my machine running Ubuntu 16.04, so it will take
a little bit of work to get it to compile on another OS.  I really have very little clue when it comes to compiling with make or other things (or even github).

Will let people know when / if it's up in a usable form.

Okay so I went through my code on my end to see if I was overlooking anything that gets fed to cn_fast_hash(...) and found nothing really new that hasn't already been shared with you.

There is a '\n' at the end of the END tag line that gets added into the string that is then hashed. For more clarity I am running this on Ubuntu 14.04.

QUESTION: Just to be clear are you able to run your own version of "check_ring_signature" against the information contained in the digital certificate?

If yes, then is your issue mainly about reproducing the hash with the cn_fast_hash(...) function with the input of the digital certificate text?

The hash of the text is used in checking the signature, so if it were incorrect I would assume the check wouldn't work (as in "check out") on my end nor your end. I'm leaning towards this is not the case on your end.

Hello Smoothie, are you still selling monero sets? I Emailed you yesterday, but no response yet.

I would likely be interested in high denomination btc coins btw.

Replied via private message. I must have missed your email.

Posting to follow, nice job smoothie!

Are you perhaps selling physical bitcoins with a bitcoin quantity >1 ?

I could, just not sure how much demand for coins like that there would be.

593  Economy / Collectibles / Re: ⭕️LEALANA BRASS XMR COINS FOR SALE ⭕️ on: January 18, 2017, 07:05:54 AM
owlcatz,

I think there are a couple more steps to verify that the coin is funded.

The steps you have above show that the coin had 5 XMR deposited to it, but it doesn't confirm that they are still there.

In order to confirm they are still there you need to:

1) Check the signature/s.  This confirms that the listed key image matches with the output public key on the digital certificate.
2) Check the spent status of the key image.

If step 1) was successful and step 2) shows that it is unspent, then the funds are still there.

I believe step (2) can be done on some blockchain explorers but step (1) isn't readily available yet without doing some coding yourself.
I've made a little command line thing for myself which verifies the digital certificates, and if I can tidy it up enough I'll get it up on github or something.

This is pretty much correct ^ as far as I am aware.

That is awesome that you managed to code something for verifying this.

I've had several users already ask me about my code on my end and I am at the same point, still needing to clean it up and release it (the verify/check ring_sig portion of it). The only thing is my code is a hack of an older version of monero within one of the existing files.

Not the most ideal, yeah I know.  Tongue

Please share what you have when you have it, it would definitely make less work for me (hopefully) and help users of the coins and other physical XMR coins.  Grin
594  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [Interest check] Would you be interested in XMR coins made by BTCC? on: January 13, 2017, 04:49:22 PM

XMR is fine and all but it's another altcoin at the end of the day. I personally don't follow it nor I plan getting into it.

Monero is not based on Bitcoin code so its not an altcoin.

If you're not king... you are an altcoin
Nothing to do with the code....

This is all dependent upon your own definition of what an alt coin is.

Monero is more of a complimentary coin in my view to Bitcoin.

Never risk the lot, make good profits on high risks with small stakes, or lower risks with bigger stakes.

And don't be greedy, always sell your position 'too early' it's way better than 'too late'.

This is not always true.

If you sold too early and the price was $100

But selling at "too late" is $500 after a crash...

Thanks for confirming when you get the coin.

As promised there was a rather large batch of international giveaways that went out a few days ago.

I had to drop off the box of them and leave it with USPS and it took them 5-6 hours to handle with a single person working on them.

Glad I didn't have to stand there for all of that.
Thanks for the updates, I am hoping there maybe is a international package headed to Aus in this lot  Wink

Confirmed, I have received the coin. I was thinking I would receive it the same time as bitkilo, though. Hope you get yours soon!

You already got yours, ah not fair man, lol. How long ago did you receive it?
I am sure it will just be the snail mails here holding mine bask.

I don't even remember that well, haha. It was around the start of December if memory serves me well.

I guess being here on an island in the middle of the sea, half a world away from all the coin traders on bitcointalk, shipping can't be fast.  Wink
Yeah it's a hard life living on an island separated from the worlds war and worries, although i will complain about the heat at this time of the year, lol..

@smoothie, It looks like i emailed back in October, any of the coins ordered in October still left to ship or are you just shipping them random?
(not complaining because who could complain about a free coin!)  Smiley

I did get a few returned as "undeliverable". Not sure if any of those were your's.

Otherwise they all shipped out from the October list.
598  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [FREE] Monero Brass Coin Giveaway on: December 28, 2016, 07:34:09 PM
It happend to me that the mail letter that let's me know a package arrived to be lost so there is a chance some got theirs but they dont know it, havent got mine yet.

I would suspect some may get lost in the mail. It is shipped USPS first class with no tracking or insurance etc.

I have had several envelopes come back to me due to them being "undeliverable" based on the address that was given to me. Those that have this happen to them will not be resent again.

I PMed you twice but never received a reply regarding this. So, I thought I'd go ahead and post it here.

Is it possible that my coin be shipped to Minerjones as he holds some coins of me with him. They need to be shipped sometime soon to me. So, if I send you an email from my email ID and ask you to send it to him so that he can forward those with my other coins, would you accept?

You could do this, the only problem is that by me shipping this to MJ the coin may not get to him for over a month from now. There is no specified time frame and this would hold up your shipment from MJ.

I was away for a while but weeks or so ago I was on btct for just a moment and saw this thread..

I PMd or emailed my shipping info and forgot all about it.. Sent it to my moms..
She called me a while ago and told me I got a package that felt like it had a coin in it and it was this coin.. So I did receive it..

But we just finished my moms new house, got final inspections, and mover her and all of her stuff in, pulled her old house down with chains and trucks..

Now that she is all happy in her new house I have been nagging her to find this coin I got in the mail but so far no dice..

So yes I can confirm that I got it and thank you very much, but I have not scene it yet due to moving chaos lol..

Thanks for confirming.

Send email last November 14 and still hoping that my qued is on process now. Send it twice prior to November 14.

Anyways if I ever I won't get it no worries on my side. It's a giveaway after all for lucky members here and with lots of email OP is receiving, the chances of missing my email is really possible.

I will transfer to our new house now few weeks from now so the address stated in my email will not be my address so I asked the land owner here if ever there is a mail to me kindly informed me and I will drop off immediately. Smiley

If I am not mistaken I have cleared out and shipped most of the November requests. Likely your's was in the shipped batches.

Mike signed the original soft covers

Figured I ask in case he did a one-off signature on the new hard covers.  Smiley
