It is my understanding that he went on a cruise around the world.

You'd think he'd have learned to stay away from the damn boats by now  Tongue

Not all cruises are on boats. I cruise in my jooogie car all the time.  Tongue

I'm new to cryptos but how would the official GUI differ from the unoffical ones currently available like lightwallet?

It seems lightwallet is quite easy to use and opensource, is it missing something I'm not aware of?

Official GUI will have everything included with it, unlike the lightwallets... runs node and wallet, etc.

plus it will be the official GUI of the core team that has the stamp of approval of a pony, mario, megaman, Antarctica, the dude, and Jackie Chanoether  Grin Grin Grin
743  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 17, 2016, 10:10:56 PM
How high do you guys think the price will go when the GUI is out?
Sure bugs there are but I am sure they will be fixed as well when discovered. The best way to simply use and give feedback so that the bugs can be fixed IMO.

I mean, when the GUI is out, it is ready for non-ponies and non-fairies (read: normal people) unlike we are apparently. The potential markets are huge and the price potential is even higher because the wealthy bagholders will not bother to sell too cheap if ever.

With all the moaning about GUI we have seen in the last months price should easily sky-rocket beyond ATH... but i 100% doubt that this will happen... as the GUI is not that big of an issue "shorters" like to make it.

What do you think is bigger issue with XMR? Lack of investments perhaps? I mean, Monero's market capitalization is merely around 100 million (give or take.
The shorter is just one guy with multiple accounts so it should be easy to overcome if there is someone investing real paper money into it.

The bigger issue is the killer app portion of XMR but even more specifically it is the XMR killer utility (use case) that seeps into the consciousness of the average bitcoin user.

Once that happens and users see that bitcoin is in no way private, that is when the scale tips.
744  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 17, 2016, 01:51:45 PM
the coin is already pretty much down.

While I wish the coin would get to 100$ or more and while the coin has indeed fallen a lot from its ~15$ peak, I want to remind you it was even 0.6$ or so at some point.
Just to make sure your calculations are accurate and the "low" numbers are correct.

I was thinking about buying more XMR, but I am still undecided. Because there's still plenty of room to fall  Undecided

oh come now, you bears can do better than that...

sell it all and short it all

 Wink

I wish I could be as confident as you are!

It was $0.25 at one point.

I love this.  Is there a decent how-to with best practices for creating the private keys to work behind the hologram?  You're releasing hundreds of these into the wild, this might be useful.

Currently they are meant to store the private spend key in base64 format. There is only enough space to store such a key of this size.

I do not know of a publicly released version of software that does this. Although there may be one that exists that I'm not aware of.

The alternative would be to store the hex version of the private spend key (half on one side and half on the other bit that may cause problems when attempting to redeem and get the hologram off of the paper insert.

Looks like there is time so I may end up releasing a version of my software that does this. But as of right now I can't promise that just yet.

As you can imagine just shipping these will take some time.  Smiley

edit: On second thought you could use a site like http://tomeko.net/online_tools/hex_to_base64.php?lang=en to convert the hex private spend key to base64.

I can't vouch for the accuracy of this site. It would be best to test the conversion and redemption process with a tiny amount of XMR to see if the conversion works. You could even do it on testnet so you don't lose any funds that matter.

Also be advised that using a 3rd party website could allow for keys to be compromised. Do a test... Of course you could possibly load the page, then disconnect from the internet and input your hex string (generated from moneroaddress.org offline) to convert to base 64 then print it and close the page etc.

**Please be advised that I am not offering this as actual advice to use but more as options for those who want to assemble a DIY coin with the brass giveaway coin.

Wow, cool! Thanks smoothie! May I ask rusty the what the reason for this giveaway is? The recent price rise of monero? Sending you a PM now.

These coins were minted in May.

I've just gotten around to one of their purposes in this giveaway.

The idea was always to further monero awareness.

Hi smoothie I was wondering there any category which only a few country can get this Monero Brass Coin or for all country ?

Assuming USPS allows first class mail to be shipped to that country. I will not know for sure until I send them out.

Wow nice coin and giveaway Smoothie did also send you an email regarding this. Would be nice to receive this beautiful coin.

How do we know if we are accepted to receive this Monero Coin, do we receive a reply on the email we send or will you publish a list.

I likely won't reply to emails as it would be too time consuming. But if you made a request via email before the coins run out then you should receive it in the mail at some point. No specific time frame as there are likely going to be many envelopes to ship out.

Thanks for the interest
751  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 15, 2016, 12:51:53 PM
I sold all of my XMR during that epic pump and I am now waiting to buy back in. I think Zcash will rocket to the top 5 coins pretty fast after it launches. Zcash is an obvious cash grab but has some serious hype and well-known backers. Wondering how bad it will hurt XMR's prices? My current plan is to wait for it to launch and if XMR drops I buy some cheap coins.

Realistically ZCash is unlikely to affect XMR's price at all. If anything, it will probably move XMR upwards, as despite the ZCash hype, Monero is still the better coin. We often always saw XMR and DASH moving together despite the perceived rivalry.

I don't see how ZCash could be a Top 5 coin pretty fast though. That would mean a marketcap of above $100,000,000 but the limited supply would imply ludicrous unit prices that wouldn't be sustained.

It does not matter if XMR is a better coin... All that matters is hype and marketing in this area. No other coins have much real world usage besides BTC and even that is pretty low. Look at ETH's price...lol that coin is a joke these days and still has high prices.

You forgot the 3rd pillar which is getting in bed with VCs.

This is a seriously huge undertaking.

Good luck to you brother!  Smiley
753  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [FREE] Monero Brass Coin Giveaway on: October 15, 2016, 08:00:00 AM
Is there a price for a single coin so we can buy more? Smiley

Yes it will be a separate post I will make for assembled/unmarked coins.
754  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [FREE] Monero Brass Coin Giveaway on: October 15, 2016, 07:47:26 AM
If someone does end up getting multiple coins they would have to fool me into thinking they had only one address but using multiple emails and multiple physical addresses. And even then what will one person make off with? Maybe 2-3 coins?
It's relatively *simple*, just keep a public list of orders before shipping anything out. Obviously you wouldn't ship for "Lauda" to "Satoshi" if Lauda did not ask/confirm this. This would work for *confirmed* members, but alt accounts could stir trouble with PO boxes and whatnot.

I'm not into data mining people's info if that is what you are getting at.
Rule 1: Never trust anyone.

Good luck with this anyhow, at least it's free.

I don't think that many people are going to do that, but yes, I guess some people will get more then one coin.

The only solution is to ask for bitcointalk.org account that registered at least 3 months ago and has at least xxx posts or something like that.

Anyway, I dont think that a lot of people are going to ask for more then one coin, so even if he ends up giving 5-10 coins in total to people who already received a coin, its not a big problem.

I contemplated that, but I thought that it would be simple enough to decipher whether someone was trying to game the system by them using similar address locations (city, state etc). But I wanted to open it up to newbies as well.

It's a giveaway so if some get more than one coin it is as you said, not that big of a deal.

If people have multiple PO boxes then great they must have enough money and time to try to fool me into thinking they are not the same person.

Secondly I am already ahead of you....SEE BELOW:

Why should I trust you? You shouldn't. And with that, anyone who does not trust me please do not purchase my coins.

Same ^ goes for my giveaway coins. Don't accept free coins, if you don't trust me.  Cheesy

Please do not attempt to get me to send multiple coins to a single person who has access to multiple addresses. I will not ship more than one coin to a specific address for these giveaway coins.
In my eyes, this giveaway failed before it even began. Good luck to the others willing to DOX themselves for 1 coin.

How does the giveaway fail? It is simply that...a giveaway...

The person requesting the coin does not have to send me their real name, how would I know it is their real name and thus doxxing themselves in the process?

"Sailing Into Uncharted Waters"  coins are here!    Shocked

Both coin versions look and are super nice.
Again, more top quality coins, released by smoothie this year.

And these holograms rank near the top, imo. Well done!  Wink

Thank you smoothie.

Awesome!

Wanted to get your thoughts on the COAs as it was something I put together last minute.
