Wasn't Trump the one trying to disband NATO?

Are you actually, seriously trying to have a retro-causal discussion about that RN?!???

We should chat over a beer sometime.

Yeah it's all coming back. One serious component of FS was civil defense: If you could get your people into bunkers then you could lob a few nukes over and say "Well, fire away if you want, but if you do we'll launch everything and our people will rule the rubble so deal".

Lot of games like this were reviewed in the 70's and 80's. Kind of weird to see we're back.

65  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 01, 2022, 06:20:22 PM
First strike capability in this context means to survive the retaliation, I forget this could be misunderstood by those not in the know.

Hm. I remember that was second strike/ride out capability: You could be nuked but your missiles would survive to trash the person who struck first. The whole MX missile thing was designed for that in the 80's, before Reagan went to deep pack mode which was stupid as... well par for the course.

Doing a fast lookup on FS I get:
Quote
the initial use of nuclear weapons to attack a country that also has nuclear weapons; considered feasible only when the attacker can destroy the other country's ability to retaliate

Quote
Amusingly enough Khrushchev was a more rational actor than Kennedy as he knew Kennedy would not back down.

Good history lesson there.

Indeed. My dad told me about working in CA during that time, waking up, driving to work, and seeing all the fog in the valley. Except the fog was not fog, but missiles out of the tubes, fueled, and ready for a hot launch.

Fun times.

Anyone trying to tell me Russia has first strike capability is a RETARD.

You Commie leaning bastards keep trying to spin this shit all you want.

Russia can most certainly launch their shit for a first strike attempt. Question 1: Will any of it get off the ground? Question 2: Will any of it actually explode?

US response would be interesting in this case. If a fizzle result do we make the entire East glow? Or just a proverbial "out of court settlement"?

BOTTOM line is MAD is in full effect.

MAD assumes rational actors. Trump and Putin do not seem to be very rational lately, so what we have is more the game we call "Chicken". And chicken is not a very good game with better than zero-sum outcomes.

In the Tit for Tat world, Russia has defected. Thus the only proper response is to defect, which leads to a minimal payoff stalemate.

There are ceasefire talks going on. It's still possible that some kind of diplomatic solution can be found, maybe Ukraine will declare neutrality and then Russia will leave. Who knows. But I think there are far more possible outcomes than the 3 you have listed. Hopefully, it gets resolved soon and via a diplomatic solution. I don't like any poor people dying for their masters, Ukraine or Russia.

Speaking of which: Somac, I owe you fifty bucks.

Reason: Last week when word came out that some dumbass Chechen "General" was going around offering $1000 bounties on Ukrainians killed to his men. I thought that was interesting and offered a $50 bounty for his ass, since that's all he was worth.

Apparently someone took him out. So I'm on the hook for somebody in the Ukraine to get $50.

So... Dinner when this is all over? Or what's your bitcoin address?

Real tankers probably consider a Volvo as a "tank"

Doomsday clock moves to one min to midnight, EU starts a meeting on whether they can hold the funds at the direct risk of a nuclear war at T- 7days. With every passing day price of ammo, guns, gold, bitcoin skyrockets, and all of the currencies collapse. Welcome to Madmax 2022

Madman playing chicken with everyone's lives, seeing who blinks first. Thats where millions years of evolution got us.

At that point you move into more familiar territory in terms of planning. This is where you use your intel to see what missiles may actually work and make appropriate decisions based on that.

There will be no nuclear war, stop beeing delusional.

That will rank behind "I won't cum in your mouth" but not as far as we might wish.
71  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 27, 2022, 03:22:59 PM
Well, time to start activating the nuclear war plan. Oi. Between "Rat packs in the Capitol", Autarky government, and of course global pandemic I'm running low on new scenarios.

Alien invasion anyone?

This would be a really interesting time for Finland to attack the USSR and take back their territory that's been occupied.

Go big or go home.

Pretty ironic but my covid passed two days ago ...

Good. That stuff can kill you if you're not careful.

Looks nice, glad you're ok. Shit, can't even begin to say how fucked up this is, but here we are. Stay low, kick the shit out of them.

Gold dumping bitcoin pumping 🎶

Wait, we're about to kick off WW3 and Gold is at 1760 an ounce. Good fucking lord, that has to be the biggest joke ever.

I know lead does well for radiation shielding, how good is a shield made out of gold?
75  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 24, 2022, 07:41:45 PM
Wow, they don't let them set up camp for weeks, pose with the local police? Get food and supplies delivered to them?

How unusual......

Hm. Looks like Trudeau revoked the "emergency powers". Wonder if/when Putin will do the same.
76  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 24, 2022, 05:46:44 PM
...and here comes the MSM public fear campaign, right on cue.  Roll Eyes

Ukraine Warns "Radioactive Dust" Could Spread Over Europe As Fighting Rages At Chernobyl Nuclear Plant

Well if they are shelling radioactive land then yeah: Radioactive dust is going to be kicked up. Given the pointless nature of that area I doubt this is an accident.

I was having a little hope that the market will be rational and the price would jump by 30% on the news of war, but alas! The market is still far away from being mature and reacting rationally to any news. Since I was in RL crisis during the previous dip to 33k and couldn't buy, now I will use the chance to buy my usual €5K. I don't want to see another dip to 30K or below it, but for me it would mean just more buying. I have no problems with buying the dips. I have problems with not selling anything after a long series of ATH's.  Grin Now the sky looks grey and grim, but at the end of the year it may look bright and shiny with nes ATH's. And this time I will stick to my guns and not letting my emotions getting in the way.

One problem is that Bitcoin depends on trust and cooperation of parties. When people start throwing shells around that trust can be.... eroded and people go to ground with food, ammo, and booze.

A lot of things run on trust. We'll see where it goes.

At this point I highly recommend that people take news reports less than 24 hours old with a serious grain (boulder) of salt. This is going to be a serious disinformation campaign, far more intense than the stuff we've been dealing with over the last 2 years.

That said, this is not good. People are going to get hurt with this shit. And the relative stability we have enjoyed over the last 30 years has pretty much been tanked. We'll see what comes out of it.

Look to examples in Prague, Hungary, Poland, and Afghanistan to see how this can play out.

I continue to be reminded of the Rick quote: "God Damn it, when did this shit become the default".

Like lead, it weighs down the portfolio.

Good time to finally dump that gold and pick up bitcoin on sale.
