She likely was. But also troubled. I can remember intense fights between my parents when i was a boy and she did beat me up like a man a couple of times.
Before going deeper into private memories now, i better stop here.

*hug*

In other news, number seems to be going up. We need to break $40k ASAP. Now that I'm (probably) COVID-free, I need to see some action. Come on, Bitcoin, do something!
The Times should write a retraction and instead say that all ironkeys should be back-doored so that stupid people can ask to get their files and keys back. The example now has little to nothing to do with bitcoin.

Sorry if I am a bit focused on this, but I hate misinformation that pulls on heartstrings to do the wrong thing.

Thnx for the explanation -- wasn't familiar with Ironkey..

I remember they had models with explosives in them to blow the chip apart, but that was for govt goodies. Still, the problem isn't bitcoin it's this guy storing it on an ironkey. Could have been a word document with his mothers' priceless recipes. So they article is crap, should he be able to get his bitcoin by whining a lot?

Fuck em.

Does "save" here means to ignore the will of the majority, ignore decision of the judicial branch with the judges appointed by Trump, and in essence for loosing minority to commit a coup d'état while expecting the 81 million majority to idly stand by? Well, prepare to be disappointed.

More "redeem for valuable cash prizes"

Emergency mechanisms... In other words changes to the blockchain to backdoor the system for "specific" accounts.

My answer to this is the same as when Ethereum rewound their chain for the DAO: *FUCK YOU*. Doing so makes the whole blockchain a scam and puts the most important part (immutability) into the dumpster. This is why I still support Ethereum "classic", it's the miners and chain that didn't just bow down to some random loser who couldn't write a proper contract.

If that happens to Bitcoin I sell immediately. Don't care if it goes to a million a coin, I will forever know that ownership of my coins is based on the benevolence of the "recovery committee".

Re the "panties" pics: there seems to be a perfect correlation between getting a bag of groceries and losing the panties  Wink
It also seems to happen in bowling alleys for some reason. I have talked to several real women about this, and apparently this does. not. happen.

Which means these images might be from a post-apocalyptic future where womens' panties are lead lined to protect from atomic fallout or a universe where the gravitational constant is higher.

Or someone really likes bondage in a very very specific way. Dunno.

So Parler was actually "hacked" by its security providers.  Nice.  That's exactly what you want in a security provider.

Not at all.

In any authentication system you have a choice to "fail safe" or "fail deadly" in the event of a problem. In Parler's case, when Twillo went offline they could no longer send out confirmation emails to verify new accounts or changing of passwords.

This happens in life. Cloud vendors are not 1000% reliable, communication errors happen, people forget to pay their bills, etc. When this happens you stop creating new accounts or stop allowing password resets until it's fixed.

Parler did not do this.

Instead their code just ignored the fact the system was down and allowed the user to do things anyway. This is set up for "minimal user disruption" because making sure the user has a nice "fluid" experience is more important than actual security.

THAT is the problem. You have a company run by security morons. Now they could have hired someone to do this right, but it's possible they didn't want to pay for it. Or they believed it was more important to have a good user experience than effective security.

Ah well.

I still think that we should avoid too much politics here (some is probably unavoidable).

It's unavoidable. Trump has only 8 days left to save America! If he fails this country will enter the most brutal dictatorship the world has ever seen.

Capitol police: Now you know how the looters  patriots  idiots  trumpers got in....

- China locks down Langfang city with 4.9 million residents.

- Malaysia declares state of emergency.

- German lockdown could last another ten weeks.

- More mass vaccination centres opens.

- Emergency mortuaries have been set up in England as hospital mortuaries reaching full capacity from Covid deaths.

Stay save.

I called my parents to see if they wanted to go shotgun shooting. They called their neighbor and apparently the whole family is in the hospital with CoVID. Apparently it's not like the flu, and the remaining son is home with pneumonia.

Seems serious.

From the article:

"Parler’s site was a mess. Its public API used no authentication. When users deleted their posts, the site failed to remove the content and instead only added a delete flag to it. Oh, and each post carried a numerical ID that was incremented from the ID of the most recently published one."

"Another amateur mistake was Parler’s failure to scrub geolocations from images and videos posted online. Sites like Twitter and Google routinely remove such metadata from content posted by their users. The video files hosted on Parler, by contrast, were “raw,” meaning they still contained this information."

What is this? A social network for ants?

More to the point, I think when their identity providers (Okta and Twillio) pulled support the site failed to "open API" access. Better than shutting down I guess.

Not.

Oh well, as always, never write anything on the Internet that you wouldn't want read aloud in your town square. That goes for this site too....

Also this. I mean they can easily touch the databases.

I’m not a system architect but expect it really depends on the setup.  If they are using Bring Your Own Key (which they should be...) then it’s all encrypted and AWS doesn’t have the key.

BYOK is tricky to implement: If your keyserver blows up then your whole company is down. But yes, if implemented it will prevent the Govt or Amazon from getting your data. Of course they can start torturing your IT staff, but that is a different problem. It helps to have keys that explode if tampered with.

Fun stuff.

Definitely would not be hiding it!...

The new Lambos really make me feel "Meh". The Hurrican is kind of a flat pancake and not too fast on the track. Feels more like an Audi. Then again the new Porsches also feel like Audis but at least you can still spin a GT3. Not bad... just kinda meh.

I wonder what the new "you put a what in a WHAT?" kind of car would be these days.
