what these bigots stood for, and all the misery they caused.

Bigotry isn't the issue. Treason is.

The generals in question took up arms against the United States of America, its government, its constitution, and its people.

I agree with Bob that it's part of history. If that means statues should be erected to commemorate traitors, perhaps statues should also be erected to commemorate Benedict Arnold and John Wilkes Booth.

They're also part of history.
There is a statue for Benedict Arnold up in Seneca NY. It's his boot from where he lost his leg in the lake battles of the Revolutionary War. Remember, the guy was a first class hero before he got fucked over by the Continental Congress and decided to go with the Brits who would treat him a lot better.

Technically his leg did not commit Treason, therefore it was worthy of a statue.

I believe there is a huge difference between seeing these things as commemorative as opposed to seeing them as an artifact of history.
Clearly they were erected with the former in mind, to commemorate the POS and  what they perpetrated. (mostly bad stuff)
(thanx for those links @bkbirge)
After all, I don't believe Germany has statues of Hitler all over the place.
Germany still does have the zoo tower, that's one hell of a monument to the whole cluster-fuck.

As for the monuments, maybe we should remember the history: Replace the nice bronze statue of a guy on a horse with a large blue rubber cock and keep the monument base and plaque intact. That way they will continue to be remembered appropriately.

Hm. I'm liking the hell out of this idea.

if you throw a coin three times and you got the head, it is mathematically very doubtful that you would also throw it for the fourth time in a row.

If a coin keeps coming up heads, seems to me that's prima facie evidence it's not a "fair" coin.  Something about the coin makes it come up heads.  Like the tail side is heavier, or whatever.
So you got it backwards.  The coin is actually more likely to come up heads again.
Just kidding.
Then there's this
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gambler%27s_fallacy

This is a big reason why I only gamble on games like craps: Because you can play both sides of the bet it discourages the house from using weighted/shaved dice. If they did then everyone could play the dont's and clean up. Faro on the other hand is easy for the house to cheat on, and thus not a game to play anymore.

Starting to experience COVID19 fatigue. We are being utterly barraged with bad information from all sides, and it's difficult to stay on top of everything, trying to filter out the noise. How many times have they flip-flopped on efficacy of HCQ for treatment, now ?!??

Also, really pissed off at all the BLM shit going on. If it were up to me, I would declare them a terrorist organization, right next to Anfita. The statues being defaced and torn down aggravates the patriot in me to a bitter extreme.

Bitcoin languishing in its current trading range for so long is also a little bit frustrating. Was hoping for more excitement post halvening, and it came and went with practically no fan-fare, as far as effect on pricing.

To your point about our HODLings, I really have no right to complain about anything financial related. It's just other shit going on in the world right now that is causing me some existential angst.

I think picking up nihilism has been a net-negative for me, but it's giving me an interesting perspective on the futility of everything.

Trying to make peace with that.

Antifa is a terrorist organization? Hm. I haven't seen them running cars into protesters or killing people as of late. BLM is getting odd, but they haven't yet started taking over Federal land and threatening to shoot FBI agents outside.

As for destroying statues... That's about as old as time itself. Check with the ancient Egyptians on that one. Ultimately they are political items, rallying points, and yeah they take political abuse. Boo hoo.

Really: Please don't let the other shit get personal to you and grind your gears: That's what *they* want: To make you choose sides and support *their* agenda. Don't fall for it when the stakes are pointless. Take the steps needed to protect *you* and the ones you love first, then if you have leftover energy go on a crusade.

And be glad you have bitcoin: Because bitcoin gives you the CHOICE to get involved or sit shit out. Lot of people work minimum wage slave jobs and have to suck up to their masters, do what they say, and deal with it. We don't have that problem, and it's something to be grateful for.

*hugs* (because you're homo, so it's ok)

It's a really good time to be alive....

For the moment there it looks like AMZN, AAPL, MSFT, GOOG, FB and TSLA will soon consume almost all $$ in existence toward their market caps.
Not sure how to feel about it, but it look like a giant sucking sound toward some kind of financial black hole.
The process, apparently, has nothing to do with fundamentals, just a manifestation of endless liquidity.

How btc fit in there? Not sure yet, but at some point it might become one of these centers of financial "gravity".
In such case, $1tril might happen fast.

Bitcoin does not have an infinite supply, nor a printing press that goes brrrr on command. More of a gentle hum.

Morning all! Happy X day, once again though the aliens didn't show up to pick up my sorry ass and incinerate the Earth. Guess it's because they don't want to catch COVID.

Shot off some pretty big fireworks last night, damn these mortars are impressive. Far more so than the older skyrockets, technology does change for the better....

Waiting for Bitcoin moon, but man the Bitcoin-litecoin spread is *pretty large* lately. Not sure yet what that means...

Pricey, but looks like one of the later generation ones. They do make good heaters, quiet and the water cooled radiator warms a room evenly....

So, in the meantime I thought I would fire up an old bitcoin wallet from 2014 and see just what I was spending coins on.

Some gems include:

Wii U console: .5 bitcoins, $4,600 in today's money
Delivered Pizza including tip: .02btc,  $184
Towels for the house: .4 bitcoin, $3680

While it is true I have been able to enjoy these things for the past 6 years, they did wind up costing me a lot. Something to keep in mind if you sell your bitcoins today, in 6 years you might be thinking "I could have bought xxxxx with that money"

990  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 01, 2020, 09:02:56 PM
People using pants as an example of why wearing masks is normal. They don't understand that I have never fully accepted that wearing pants should be required either.

That's good to know. Do you happen to have a bidet by chance? That could be a mitigating factor however walking around without pants will get you some interesting responses, same as not wearing a mask.

Quote
Also...leprosy exists. If a leper touches you, you will catch it. That is why everyone in ancient times walked around in full plate mail.

If you are not walking around in a full suit of armor you can catch leprosy and eventually die. Let that little fact sink in.
No, they would exile lepers very far away (or just kill them), which also worked to control that disease. Are you saying we should exile people who do not wish to wear masks to places like Molokai and the like?

I could be ok with that.
991  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 01, 2020, 03:35:51 PM
Cite your sources

Do Fox News and Daily Stormer count?  Roll Eyes
They would be sources, but with a pretty low impact factor.

Anyway, here's a nice image that explains it in simple terms.

992  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 01, 2020, 02:57:38 PM
Bullshit.

Cite your sources that masks do not prevent the spreading of this virus.

Those countries that imposed wearing face masks on their population in certain area's (public transport for example), together with social distancing and washing hands on a regular basis
are also those countries that successfully mitigated the corona virus outbreak (they bend the curve down). Those are the countries that are now slowly and in a controlled manner re-opening
their countries (EU, China, others).

Bullshit squared.
Cite your sources that current infection rates in the EU are the same or higher as the US.

Those countries that were least active or inconsistent with above mentioned protection measurements are noticing the consequences of that right now : increased number of infections,
increased number of deaths and a curve that is spiraling out of control, overtaxing their health system . Those countries (USA, Brazil, Russia, others) will soon find themselves isolated from the rest of the world
(if not already).

Overtaxing their health system? Is this an inside joke?
I'd say cite sources that ICUs in Texas are not at 100% capacity, but it seems the big hospitals in Texas stopped providing this info when rates hit 100%. Gee, I wonder why...

As for the rest.... CT you are spreading not merely bullshit or horseshit, but true elephant shit. And yes, the government can force you to put a mask on just as the government can force you to put a pair of pants on so you don't smear shit on everything you sit on, and force you to not dig a cesspit next to the town well, and force you not to dump your trash on my property.

That's the whole fucking point of a government: To protect the majority of the population from the idiocy of a minority that wants to sabotage it.

Funniest part is there have been people with views like yours throughout history: They're the ones that fought hard for their right to take a shit in the middle of the street. They're the ones who fought hard to dig cesspits next to the town well (giving us cholera). They're the ones that fought hard to keep doctors from washing their hands between delivering babies. The ones who fought hard to dump PCBs and chemicals in the town's drinking water.

They fight hard for every defeat.

As a kid I figured it was because they were mis-informed, but now I realize they are and have always been stupid fucking asswipes.

So give it a rest.

Yeah it's sad: These people are probably quite useful and we ain't getting them.

Would be cool if HK citizens all just torched the city, got out and left a sign saying:

"I have left it as I found it.
Take over, it's yours"

Hong Kong national security law is ready to rock n roll.

Haha good one.
Yup. If you haven't gotten the fuck out of HK then it's too late. I'm glad I didn't live there, complicated place.

You know what I like the most about bitcoin? It's all in the open. The protocol, rules, every transaction can be looked up and reviewed and verified.

This is important because it's human nature to try and fool people by hiding things when it suits one's advantage. Like for example Texas hospitals which are now quietly removing information about their ICU capacity now that they have hit 100% full at the beginning of a pandemic surge. Why let people make their own informed opinions on objective data when you can have them make decisions based on anecdote that supports your position?

Bitcoin prevents this. This is very good.

PSU failures are typically caused by either a failure in the fans (supply is smart enough to see the fan not spinning or shuts down quickly as the rail overheats), a blown fuse in the input/primary side (happens),  or failures in the high-side FETs on the output rail. When one FET goes (they normally put a number of them in parallel and fire together or in an N phase sequence) it pretty much shuts down the whole supply.

If you're technical, grab a meter and check the resistance of the power supply output leads with the supply off and completely disconnected from the three hashing boards. If it's zero then you have a FET short.

Finding the shorted FET isn't too hard, but you do have to desolder then from the board and check each one. Sometimes a thermal camera can catch it but usually the supply crowbars too quickly. Unless the FET has exploded but a lot of times this doesn't happen. And here is where you find that the cost of paying someone to do this is probably greater than the cost of the supply and might not make sense with the current value of bitcoin, difficulty, etc.

Bitmain knows this, and IMO some of the components they use tend to be a bit "on the edge". Makes sense if the goal is to have the miner survive the warranty period and not much more. Thus as the previous poster pointed out the boards/units are not designed to be fixed easily and are truly "limited use".

Interesting. In your case, what was the source of the problem? I know PF and unbalanced loads can screw up a 3 phase system, did something else catch your mining farm as well?

I can always count on the over 9000 memes. Even when it hits 90,000 people will still have the memes on speed dial.
