Hm. Now you have me thinking about a powerwall. At 8k for a single unit, that's pretty inexpensive. Well, it's inexpensive now.....

Hm.....

Can recommend. Make sure you have it configured to run when the grid is out as your installer may not think that through.

I recall some noise a while back about PV systems having to power down when the grid was down if they were connected to the grid. I don't recall if there was some kind of exception if you had the correct isolation or not though.

Edit: https://thirdsunsolar.com/residential/does-solar-work-in-a-blackout-third-sun-solar/
Quick summary: A normal grid tie system cannot function without the grid to act as a storage system and modulator. The 60 cycle AC sync signal is provided by the grid, and the inverter syncs to that.

However you can buy a more expensive inverter that can provide its' own 60 cycle reference signal and use a battery pack as a storage/modulator. The "Sunny Island" from SMA is an example of this. When grid power goes down they switch to the batteries and run a portion of your house like a large UPS.

Glad it wasn't the skycrane landing on it. Good to see they got it down in one piece.

so basically, i should move my sells to ~200k from instead of merely ~100k USD like now.

got it.

Well, yeah! You don't want to sell at the bottom, right?

99 500 bitcoin millionaires Smiley

Millionaire addresses, amount of millionaires can be WaaaaaaaaaY lower
Also higher. Not everyone keeps all their coins in one address, usually people have a bunch of addresses in their wallet off a single base seed. Can this analysis link them?

By the way.. in the above chart, see the lil blip above the 2014?  That was the late 2013 bubble.

Oh my God, wasn't that when it went from $67 or so to $1000? It seems so small now...

Also: Were those Cassicus coins ever hacked or anything? They seemed neat, but I always wondered if a second copy of the keys weren't kept somewhere....

FULL DISCLOSURE: A sell order has been placed at a price target. Looking to officially take some profit to give us liquidity to start building on the land ASAP.

Well, you sold at 16.5k to free your love from slavery and the price since then has.... blown sky high. I fully support your selling again :-)

Now if we could just all Average Joes to treat every article they read with suspicion first, then verify (or not), they'd get a lot smarter and more savvy.

"Don't trust, verify."

Gee, where have I heard that one before?

This is exactly why subscription based news is superior to penny papers: You select a news source, PAY FOR IT, and if it turns out to be crap you cancel the subscription and buy a better quality news source.

That's what Ochs did with the Times and Franklin did with Poor Richards' Almanac: Provide consistent quality information that you pay a subscription for. Hearst knew the value of shock crap news, thus came the "penny papers" where you only paid a penny but each day the news had to sell itself to your tastes. Thus salacious crap (Remember the Maine!)

Unfortunately on the Internet the penny paper model won (ad based articles) so the ones that make money are not based on accuracy but on salaciousness. In that world yes you have to research every news item to death.

Personally I prefer to outsource that to a reputable company. Sometimes even those reputable sources can be corrupted by ad revenue and shock jock crap (hello Wall Street Journal, what the fuck happened). And here we are....

Bears out of ammo finally?

Like someone said earlier, better if they sell their coins now then later.

Cheap coins....

(Yes, I just said that 51k coins are cheap. Jesus....)

Just for perspective: I was talking to my son last night and mentioned that Bitcoin had crashed down to about 51k. He said "You know dad, if you had said 5 years ago that Bitcoin was crashing to 51,000 I would think you were just pulling numbers out of your ass".

He's right....

All bitcoins are welcome in my wallet and my nodes. I guess you could run a hacked node to block specific addresses, but man that would have to be picked up by a very large percentage of the network.

Gotta tell you, I remember people thinking it was going to fall once Biden came in. Hasn't worked out that way which could mean Bitcoin is more than a disaster hedge.

See, I would take that as evidence that it is one Cheesy

YABBA DABBA DOO!!!!!

515  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is still profitable to buy an Antminer L3+ in 2021? on: February 17, 2021, 07:17:39 PM
A profit of $2 a day *today*. I guess what I am realizing about mining is that doing it at a loss isn't bad if the sats stacked are worth what they have been worth as of late. Yes you can buy bitcoin, but it's such a pain in the ass and there is still a spot price premium that you have to take into account.

I'll just run my little wrecked miners here through the summer and see what happens.

Cool hat stuff....

Hey man, can you make me a Fred Flintstone hat? After listening to that Bloomberg bit I'm yelling YABBA DABBA DOO!!! at every ATH......
517  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 17, 2021, 07:08:45 PM
So I was listening to Bloomberg while driving today and heard Roubini going on about how Bitcoin is not even as good as the money used on "The Flintstones"

I laughed so hard I almost drove off the road.

On the positive side I'm no longer chittering like a meth addicted chipmunk. No, just a nice smile on my face, content and observing.

Same here in germany... Tulips and "showball-system" (don't know if that has even a meaning in english, in germany we say: "Schneeballsystem") aka Ponzi-Scheme.

My wife loves Schneeballen. Although isn't it more of a powder sugar coated baked confectionery than a frozen snowball.

Meantime, are we still stuck at 51k?
520  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 17, 2021, 02:21:55 AM
Thinking about this: I like to think of things as ways to increase overall net worth for myself and things I care about. If I cared about my sister for example and loaning money to buy a flat that would save her money enough to stack some sats then that would be a wise investment in funds, not just for myself but my genetically rated offspring.

If she just took the money and went to Disney while in debt that would be a.... less wise investment as it would not allow sat stacking and would not improve the overall net worth of the local genetic pool. Bob kind of has this with his idea to set up his nieces and nephews, I wonder if I would structure that to give them edges in building *their* net worth, not just dropping a sack of coins on their heads like a box of rocks.

Hm, this is interesting to ponder. How to use this newfound wealth to make the world a better place. As in increase the overall net worth of things I value.
