61  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin might rise $1000 unexpectedly soon on: October 23, 2013, 07:15:59 PM
Well I hope it does rise to $1000, 'cause I need to buy a generator and a set of Dan Wesson revolvers.   And my 5 coins aren't doing shit for me right now.  So climb climb climb!! Smiley
62  Economy / Economics / Re: 'Dollar valueless, about to crash' - World Bank whistleblower on: October 13, 2013, 02:42:31 PM
im afraid we might loose our means of communicating also. once mobile and internet networks are down - we are back in stone age. except of elite surely.

Get yourself a Baofeng UV-5rtransmitter.  $35 off amazon (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_1_6?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=baofeng+uv-5r&sprefix=baofen%2Caps%2C225, and you can listen/broadcast on several bands, including the popular HAM bands, GMRS, FRS, MURS.  Get one for each member of your family.  Pick a frequency for personal communication and keep tabs on the local HAM freqs/repeaters.

If you don't have a HAM license, then don't broadcast now, just listen, at least the repeaters.  You'll want to listen to the HAMs in a disaster anyway, they're usually the ones coordinating communication between various organizations anyway.

Great tip. Thanks.

Let me reiterate that, unless you have a HAM license, to stay off the HAM repeaters.  The FCC could potentially fine you *a lot* of money for misuse, and the HAMs don't take lightly for using their equipment w/out a license.  For common folks, however, FRS and MURS you can use right now.

GMRS requires a license (inexpensive), although the chances of getting busted for unlicensed GMRS use isn't very high.  Just keep in mind the fines. Smiley

Now in an anarchist situation (say zombies, or total societal collapse), then no one is going to give a shit, and that's why I mentioned this radio, since you communicate with others if you need to on the various bands.

I'd also suggest keeping (at least) one in a faraday cage in case of a major solar flare that causes major power outages, plus a hand-crank radio (also for GMRS and FRS and is on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000P0O12I/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=3PRAOZ3JGCYVI&coliid=I2D0HB6QF5P9F9))

Lake of the Ozarks has a lot of cigarette boats that fly by.  It'd be fine down there.  Maybe even Perry lake.  Perry has a long stretch that it'd be fun to run up and back.

Hey all, I just bought a gun (Beretta U22 NESO) from SphereScape, and it went very well.  I waited until I got it from my local FFL before I submitted feedback, but honestly the entire process felt right, so I wasn't really worried at all.  I will be leaving feedback in his trust as well.

He currently has a Mossberg 590a1 on backorder for me as well, and I suspect it will go just as smoothly.

My local FFL was awesome as well.  I know it's not relevant to this, really, but I was in and out of his shop in 5 minutes.  Since I was a repeat customer, he had all my paperwork filled out, and I just had to verify/sign.  Since I have a CCH license, he didn't need to call me in for a NCIS background check (Kansas CCH does a much more thorough background than the standard NCIS does, so they figure if you can pass the Kansas one, you'll pass the federal one).  So my time was:  one minute paying/verifying/picking up firearm, and four minutes random talk.

If you want to buy a gun for bitcoins, SphereScape is your man. Wink

I even have him tracking me down a harder-to-find gun as soon as I have the bitcoins to pay for it.  Smiley
71  Economy / Goods / [WTS] E-trigger for Tippmann 98 Custom on: September 06, 2013, 06:31:02 PM
I have a new-in-the-box E-trigger for a Custom 98 (or Custom 98 Pro with serial number #893000 or higher)

http://www.tippmann.com/ETriggerElectronicUpgradeKit.aspx

I bought it recently thinking I was going to use it, but decided not to.  Still in the packaging, never opened.  They retail for $100, I will sell for $90 and will including shipping (flat rate USPS) to the US.

My originally bought it for the "auto response" mode (gives you one shot per pull and release of the trigger (so two shots per normal trigger function)), and while a lot of parks have a rule against full-auto, the response mode usually gets you around that since you still have to pull the trigger every time.

I'll be going a different route in paintball, and no longer have the need for this.

Comes with 5 total modes:  semi-auto, auto-response, full-auto, 3-shot burst, turbo.
72  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: Kansas City Meetup - Tuesday, Sep. 10th, 5:30pm on: September 06, 2013, 03:20:27 AM
Dang, I'll be out of town the 10th. Hopefully the turnout is good so I have a chance to make another.

Anyone interested in helping me organize a Lawrence meetup?

If there's a Lawrence meetup, I may be interested in going, depending on my schedule.   Downtown noonish would be best.  I may be able to bring my coworker, too. (we work just off Mass)
73  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] 1977 Hawaiian Jet Boat on: August 31, 2013, 08:23:11 PM
It's a 1977 Hawaiian Jet boat. I have taken the boat out a total of 5 times since i have rebuilt the engine. I have receipts for everything. There is only 7 Hours on the motor.New GaugesNew MSD ignition, Rebuilt ford 460 engine, Rebuilt Berkley jet pump, New Front and rear seats, New steering and diverter cables, New wiring, I spared no expense when doing this boat. I don't have to sell the boat this is just seeing if someone makes a right offer. I am possible negotiable on the price. Asking $7,000 OBO Or BTC60 The boat is wonderful and it DOES run. It is a wonderful cruising boat. I am in North Houston Texas

Does this boat have a cuddy cabin, or can you store crap up in the bow?  Or is it sealed?

Pretty cool... wish I lived some place close to water!

Inaba, don't you live in the KC area?  A lot of folks (especially in Lenexa and Olathe) tow to Clinton Lake (the lake I boat at) or Perry.  Several people from those areas have slips at the various marinas at the two lakes.  You should do it. Smiley
75  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin vs LiteCoin vs ... other cryptocurrencies on: August 28, 2013, 02:53:16 PM
Alt coins add value to bitcoin because there are thousands of bitcoins tied up in alt coins that cannot be sold for fiat.  The more they get spread out, the more they are going to be worth.  Oh, and litecoins were not created for someone to get rich.  Do a little bit of research.

Well he's not going to admit it, but ultimately that's what it was.  I was there from day one and read about it, etc.  It was greed, pure and simple, and hoping for some luck.
76  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin vs LiteCoin vs ... other cryptocurrencies on: August 28, 2013, 01:51:27 PM
litecoin was created because someone got pissy that he missed the early days of mining bitcoins and wanted to create his own gravy train.

litecoin misses the whole point of bitcoin.  It creates coins faster and more of them over the course of its lifetime, but again, because he was hoping to get rich.  I guess it's working out for him.

Bitcoin's 10 minute block was a reasonable time so that slower networks could still participate and not get hosed in transactions.  Sure, transactions are a little slower as a result, but compared to transferring fiat out of a bank, it's a far sight better.  litecoin misses the point, and as a result convolutes and obfuscates new people coming to the bitcoin world.
