Nice idea.
The room with all the squares is a pain due to the inertia. you keep falling off! I would prefer an intellectually challenging puzzle as opposed to a skill puzzle.
Would that be possible on the next puzzle?

do you agree? are you still in love with driving?

i've been steadily going off driving over the years. these days i hate it. it's so boring and tedious yet freaking dangerous too. i can definitely feel myself being debilitated after a long drive.

Have no fear! Driverless cars are the future. :-)

2247 Unconfirmed Transactions <- Is that a record low in quite some time?

0 transaction in mempool.

Lol so 1Mb blocks are big enough then!!!

So what do the bits in the charts show?

Is there a BCC fork going on?

Super thin volumes because everyone has pulled coins out of exchanges is going to make for some insane swings ... throw an insanely, reckless hard fork in there by the largest miner and it's a recipe for a disaster (for someone). It probably wont ruin bitcoin but it will set it back by a few years.

Jihan Wu is going to go into bitcoin hall of infamy right up there along with Karpeles ... which I suppose is fitting, Karpeles wasn't the first but Gox represented the worst of the excesses of the centralised bitcoin exchange scams of the early days and fuckwit Wu wasn't the first but he represents the worst of the excesses of centralised mining scams.

Anyone hoping for some stability and sanity returning to btc might not be too happy at least until after October or so ...
What you are saying seems to make sense to me although I am not convinced it will set BTC back years. I am sure there will be some turmoil but I am optimistic that a clear leader (hopefully BTC) will emerge quickly and peeps will drop the WU coin forcing him to accept defeat and either join the BTC crowd or shut down the whole thing and run away!

I don't keep my coins on exchanges but does anyone need to remove the coins? I mean isn't BIP148 now not going to happen since segwit will be in place before that date or have I got this all wrong?
(Still a little confused about the whole thing).

It's the only way you will secure getting your new Bitcoin ABC coins.

So there is going to be a HF for sure on that date? Is that the Jihan fork?
I have my priv keys on a ledger nano S so presume I am ok?
(Sorry if I missed some vital info and your having to repeat).

Yeah, if someone really KNOWS about that Bitcoin Cash thinggy it would be great if he could illustrate all us. I have read a little about it but haven't even realised if it is a sure thing or a bluff, or wtf.

Anyone?

yeah it's happening lots of info/links from here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2040221.0

Thanks. With so much to read in this one thread alone I hardly have had time to read any others (slow reader lol)

I have been telling people about bitcoin since 2013. A few friends listened and hey have made a lot of money. Most people back then had little or no interest with the exception of a small percentage.

Yesterday one of my staff told me he had bought some XRP. He said he relt the 20 euro charge for buying his bitcoin was too high. Not sure where he was looking. He only bought around 200 euros of XRP so a 10% fee does seem a lot. I told him he needs to buy more. Lol

A bus driver that comes in my work also told me yesterday he bought £250 of Bitcoin a few weeks back. He said he is still about £15 down so he must have bought at the top. I told him not to stress and all will be good in he end.

Slowly slowly it is happening. People are interested when they know I use Bitcoin. They want to hear what you have to say.

Gentlemen
I have found that the level of knowledge within my circle of friends here in the UK is still rather minimal, even though I have been harping on about it since 2013 as well.
That said, I was surprised to hear one of my poker colleagues comment the other week that BTC wa doing "quite well". But no-one I know has invested any money into it yet. Almost everyone I speak to say the same thing, "Its too expensive"Huh I tell them they dont have to purchase a whole coin but they keep thinking this must be the top!!!
Oh how little they know

Wow. This is normal behavior, yeah?

You'd better get used to it. There is no other way of having $500000 per bitcoin by 2020.

I believe McAfee said $3000000! The $500000 was only the wager size!!

By that definition "we" only applies if you run your own node.  I suspect there are not many "we" here.
The share of people running node is likely higher in this thread than forum average. (would be interesting to know % share) I run it only some 4-6 hours a day though, more on weekends.
I was wondering if it would be possible to run it on virtual PC, I'll have to try that

I dont see why you wouldnt be able to run it under a virtual pc. But what is the point? You still need to run the virtual machine on a host anyway, unless you are just trying to keep it self contained.

I would prefer a POW change that will make useless the asics and return the mining to the gpu's and cpu's.

Is any POW algo ever truly ASIC proof?

John McAfee is taking bets:

Quote
In the long term Bitcoin moves above  $500,000 within three years. Bets?

Send legal contract bet to:
John McAfee

I would definitely take a $500k bet knowing that in 3 years I can sell one of my bitcoins for $500k to pay off the bet happily. Or he gives me $500k. Win win.

Great idea Elwar only he also tweeted that funds need to be escrowed immediately and he is betting on the Jihan fork!

If/when BTC reaches these heights, we wont be measuring it against the dollar anymore.

You should take a look-see around r/ethtrader just for kicks. Not only are they falling for all the old scams, they're recycling all the old memes. It's surreal.

Yeah I noticed that too. That community also has no idea that the majority of the cheerleading posts, good news posts, comedic posts, and "chin up" posts are posted by nefarious troll traders that are using social engineering tactics to manipulate that community to continue to either a) stay invested: hodl or b) double down on every dip, even if the trend is moving down. They have no idea just how far the price can fall over a longer stretch of time.

I have seen the same scam tactics used in other altcoin reddit pages and alt forums as well. Everyone believes that their special snowflake that they've put money into is truly special and will completely dethrone Bitcoin one day. At least they believe that until the price has finally fallen far enough, over a long enough period of time, that they have to accept the reality that it was all just a shared delusion.

The human brain has an incredible capacity to rationalize an otherwise irrational/illogical position, especially if it has real money behind it, and will consume any bias information that supports that position and reject any other that doesn't.

Couldn't the same be said of Bitcoin holders though? I am an avid BTC holder myself.

Wall Observer Coin
lol and largely agreed

^ref your earlier discussion - how to get (back) into bitcoin - and the advice you were given - dollar cost averaging - thought this might amuse/interest you/all/some: http://trilema.com/2017/the-universal-plan-for-wealth/

my main takeaway for the purposes of this thread -
it's incredibly goddamn bullish - a kid scrapes together $20k worth of btc now ... puts in some not very hard work ... is a wealthy man in ... ?several years' time.
20k becomes what 200mil? in today's terms

i'd bet most of us want to believe roughly that sort of growth for the price, even if my definition of wealthy is an order of magnitude more than the next guy's

if we are right, then the dollar will decline so sharply at some - nearish-by - point
that dollar-cost averaging will no longer be a way in to bitcoin for the average working stiff

That's actually going to be pretty good for Bitcoin if the dollar declines as it could actually be used for daily transactions, assuming SW and Lightning get implemented. Good thing I already have my foot in the door and don't buy as much as I used to.

Good read V8. Funnily enough I actually own a house in the UK (but currently living in the Philippines) which I have been recently thinking should I sell and invest some of the proceeds into bitcoin. I get a steady rent income from it sure but that is not as much as returns I would get from BTC. Problem is it is a lenghy process of selling a house in the UK but with current house prices I should come out with £130,000 should I decide to sell. Of that my plan would be keep £100,000 in various banks as I$I$Coins in case house prices collapse so that I can buy property back, use 10,000 as living expenses for a year or so here in Asia and invest 20,000 in cryptos (mainly BTC for long term HODL) and maybe 5k for trading with.

Anyway its something I got to think about seriously.

I love BTC and have what I believe to be a nice healthy stash. However, to suggest that the property market might crash seems a little bit optimistic to me. I also live in the U.K. And had a property that I sold sometime back and now wish I had held on to it since it value has since tripled from when I sold it. Everyone needs a place to live so I believe that there will always be a demand for property. Only scenario I envisage where property wont be needed is if there is a mass exodus from said country and I just can't see that happening in the U.K. Within the immediate future anyway.
Returns are, for the moment anyway, far better in BTC but the volatility of it makes me quite nervous at times.
Anyway, best of luck whatever you decide and it will be interesting to see how it all pans out.
