It's a tower that is on 24/7 anyways, so a few more watts for some usb sticks doesn't even get noticed.  I did have them running on a dedicated laptop that only used about 40w on its own, but it's more efficient this way.
602  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2015-16 Regular Season Discussion on: March 31, 2016, 07:11:06 PM
LA might surprise after their record loss the other night, so that is another good spread bet I think.
So I hope you all listened to me last night and put money on the Lakers, you'd be up this morning if you did!

Chicago/Houston is a tougher call tonight I think, if they play a little defense it won't go over.

Any custom FW for S5? -- I am planning to get the S5 FW refreshed to do ckpool solo mining fulltime.
Only the binary I made which has to be manually copied over and is not permanent.

you can even shorten the sequence :p

Code:
ssh 192.168.1.x -l root
cd /usr/bin
mv cgminer cgminer.bak
wget http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/antminer/s5/4.9.0-150105/cgminer
chmod +x cgminer
/etc/init.d/cgminer.sh restart

I use this on my S5 because it's very simple to do, just set and forget.  You will lose the fan % control (the gui stuff is still there but it doesn't do anything anymore), but I also saw a drop of 0.03% HW error and an increase in hash rate ~10GH/s both machine and pool side, oc'd @ 400 MHz.  I like it. ymmv
604  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: ¤¤¤¤ antrun.de - Antrouter R1 Fun-Run - compare your share ¤¤¤¤ on: March 31, 2016, 06:11:55 AM
I was wondering if it would be possible for the homepage to sort the user list by active "green" users first, highest share to lowest; and then inactive "red" users, highest share to lowest?  That would be very helpful I think.  Thanks, been fun so far watching the little R1s go.

@137.5MHz

ps - no longer in last place, woo!

You need a tl;dr for your tl;dr section as it is longer than the "main" body of text.  Tongue
606  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: March 30, 2016, 09:33:28 PM
My USB "mini farm".

  • Three gekkoscience compacs up top @ 262MHz for ~42GH/s
  • Four CryptoRig Hitchikers (nanofury) along side and two more in front out of photo @ 50bits for ~12GH/s
  • There is a usb fan at the bottom out of photo blowing up on all the sticks.  They're setup like this taped to the back of the tower case because of usb cable lengths used, and it gets the sticks out of the way.
607  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Core version 0.12.0 released on: March 30, 2016, 07:16:00 PM
Perfect, that is exactly my issue.  Thanks for sharing the link, I'll follow that and see what develops.  There are still so many XP users out there that it would be a shame if bitcoin core was not longer able to be run on it.
608  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to give away Bitcoin at a public event? on: March 30, 2016, 05:44:45 PM
i think the best option is printing paper wallets (private key, QR code, address) with the amount of bitcoin inside of each address and give away those to the participants with walkthrough on how to use the coins (sweeping) on the back.
I agree, I think this is the best way.  Plus it really engages the people into bitcoin, because if they want to use the paper wallet then they have to learn how to install an e-wallet and how to use private keys and etc. etc., it will make it much more of a learning experience.  Sounds fun, wish I could go to an event where people give btc away!
609  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Core version 0.12.0 released on: March 30, 2016, 05:42:19 PM
It's an older computer I built years ago, still runs XP.  The OS could be an issue, but I doubt the hardware is (decent proc, plenty of RAM and hd space).  One of these days I'll get around to building a new machine.  I also need to turn my old laptop into a Linux machine, that would be the one to run my node ideally I think.  But in the mean time I would love some ideas what was changed in 0.12 that now makes it unusable on my computer.
610  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2015-16 Regular Season Discussion on: March 30, 2016, 05:39:04 PM
The biggest spreads tonight are New Orleans @ San Antonio and Miami @ LA, I think there's good potential to make money on both these games.  If San Antonio rests players then that game is a good one to watch and put money on.  LA might surprise after their record loss the other night, so that is another good spread bet I think.
611  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: March 29, 2016, 11:30:19 PM
I sent Block C a message, I'll update this thread as things develop.
Block C got back to me and good news, they said the Avalon should not be damaged and I can hook up my new psu when I get it and mine on.  They said the connectors on the Avalon are capable of supporting 1000w per side even though they typically only see about 475w.

My new psu will run off 240v, so I should see a minor improvement in efficiency as well.
612  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BCMonster.com Mining Pool / [PPLNS Payout][Pays TxFee] 5th Block found! on: March 29, 2016, 11:25:43 PM
Our hash rate denominations are purely dependent on speed. If you are mining at low speeds it will show according to your hash rate. When I log in everything I see is in TH, unless pool speed jumps into the PH range, then it switches to PH. As for round, I meant when we find this block. Our rounds are by block until we get much larger.
All my hash rates are shown in TH/s on the site except for the 'My Worker' page, that is the only location it shows KH/s.  I thought it was a bit odd.  On your worker page does it show you TH?

Maybe I am misunderstanding the block finder bonus, but given your round definition then wouldn't the block finder have to be mining here 'at the end of the round" to have found the block that triggers the end of the round?
613  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: March 29, 2016, 10:12:49 PM
It actually depends; some U3s run the BM1384 chips, but those are the ones that run at 0.8w/gh, the ones with slightly lower power consumption and look like a big mac with holes in it.
All of the U3s used the same chip, and none of them used BM1384.  Version 1 and Version 2 of the U3 were identical except for the external case and both used BM1382.
614  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BCMonster.com Mining Pool / [PPLNS Payout][Pays TxFee] 5th Block found! on: March 29, 2016, 10:06:50 PM
The 1BTC blockfinding bonus is back for next round! Only condition is you have to be actively mining by the end of this round to qualify!
Where can I see when the round is going to end?  The 'Round' tab on the web page appears to me to only show information about the round in which the last block was solved, is that correct?

Also, is there a reason that worker hash rate is shown in Khash/s on the 'My Workers' tab?  Ghash seems to make more sense for today's tech.
615  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] HaoBTC, mining dividend paid out hourly on: March 29, 2016, 10:04:32 PM
The wallet is earning 3% for like another month, then they are dropping it to 2% for the upcoming halving.

Another question I have is has any one tried having a cold air from a bowl of ice blown into miner to keep it temp down.
Right idea, wrong application.  Try an experiment yourself and sit in front of a fan and a bowl of ice.  I'll save you the time, not very efficient.  You need to study a little thermodynamics before you start designing mechanical cooling systems.  There's too many failings with your concept to list them all.
617  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 1% fee solo mining USA/DE servers 171 blocks solved! on: March 29, 2016, 09:56:27 PM
I cant make heads nor tails of this gibberish that comes up as my stats now.  I think it was alot better when it was just one line.  How do i find my overall best share?  Does everyone stats look like this?
You have to use the worker link look-up, not the user link.  The user link returns all stats for every worker associated with said address.
e.g.
http://solo.ckpool.org/users/1PwftnJ5FhMhTb9dAY61oD2KE8VPvh9Qkt returns what you posted above (use the CODE tag for walls of text!):

618  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: March 29, 2016, 04:16:49 AM
Replacing the connector on the A6 is beyond my skill level, I can barely solder two wires together.  I like to work on big stuff like cars and trucks.  Even if I could do it I wouldn't want to void the warranty by opening it up.  I'm going to clean up the plug on the A6 and wait to see what Block C says.  I threw out the melted wire, other than that the psu looks and runs 100%.

Was examining my two psu's trying to figure why the one wire melted and I notice that one is a zx series and one is a z series.  I look closer at the pci-e cables and the zx series has 16ga wires and the z series 18ga, there's the problem right there.  Heck, I have a 550w corsair psu for my S1 that used to run, even it has 16ga wires.

So the z series is perm. offline, the zx will run my S5, and my new psu from holybitcoin will run the Avalon once it gets the ok.  That eliminates any further plugging issues.

Mine on.

620  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: March 28, 2016, 10:01:57 PM
This is not advice on what you should do, and I can't say for certain without seeing it in person, but if that were my A6 and the condition is what it appears to be (not very bad), then I would have already cleaned out the plug on the miner with some denatured alcohol, started it back up on a better supply, and monitored it carefully for a few days.
Good info on the plug/unplug cycles, looks like the el-cheapo cables aren't rated to be replugged very often at all, only 25 cycles (I assume 1 cycle = plug + unplug).  I do wonder, though, under what conditions you'd be plugging/unplugging 10 times per minute.

The condition definitely does not appear very bad, but it's a mix of my OCD and bank account that I'm unsure about firing it up again.  I ordered some 16ga. pci-e cables to use with my S5 and the OCZ psu's, and at the same time I ordered a 1200watt HP psu from HolyBitcoin - yea I couldn't resist a new psu before sending it away to be hosted.  Figured that could be a month or more (or less, who knows) and I'll always find some use for the psu, so why not.

After I hear from Block C I'll know if I should try the new psu when it arrives or wait to have the unit professionally inspected.  I will clean out the plug anyway in the mean time.

started it back up on a better supply, and monitored it carefully for a few days.
What would constitute "monitored"?  As it was I would only run it when I was home and I checked on it almost every hour feeling air flow, feeling pci-e connectors for excess heat, stuff like that, which is another reason I was really surprised to find the melted plug.
