621  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: March 28, 2016, 06:43:00 PM
Thanks, guys.  Sidehack is so busy with projects I do not want to bother him about some simple cables.  J4bberwock seems mia from the forum, but HolyBitcoin resells his stuff so I will order some new cables from him.   He's got some good deals on server psus, too, so I may as well upgrade my power supplies while I'm at it, I have a 240v outlet unused where my miner is so I could go that route.  I'll put the OCZs on ebay, they'd still be good for regular ol' computer use.

I sent Block C a message, I'll update this thread as things develop.
622  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BITMAIN AntRouter R1: 1st wireless networking device with bitcoin mining chip on: March 28, 2016, 06:00:53 PM
Plugged the one in to the laptop and tried to run it through cgminer and cgminer wont load. It comes up with the first line then doesn't load until I unplug the U3. Ive just loaded it again while writing this and it says "MTX Icarus something". Also when it loads (after ive unplugged the U30 it says "AMU 0: write voltage comms error werr=-4 amount=0     Failed to set frequency, too much overclock?"

Now I haven't changed the settings since I last had it connected to cgminer before I got the R1. Would all that mean ive got a dead U3 now?
If you can't get the U3 hashing on its own no matter what (did you re-zadig a few times?) then you probably have a dead U3. Sad

My last U3 hashed along as it usually did until one day it just wouldn't get recognized by the computer any more and I gave it away for cost of shipping.
623  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: March 28, 2016, 05:58:19 PM
That highly suggests used hardware.  It seems unlikely they would have installed Dec firmware on a miner built more recently.
All of Bitmain's hardware is used, they don't sell anything that hasn't mined for them in one of their farms for a while already (and probably already ROI'd their production cost prior to resale).
624  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Mar 18 to Mar 31? picks are closed.... prize = 0.1 btc on: March 28, 2016, 05:57:02 PM
Antpool was @ 300PH/s around 10 days ago and now they are mining with 342+ PH/s. Those 40+ PH/s are +2.5% of the network...  and its only one pool Sad
And there are new ~30PH pools popping up in China all the time, it's scary how fast they toss up farms over there.  I'm really hoping the halving makes big farms not cost efficient to run and we start seeing chunks of 30-40PH drop off the network instead of add to it.
625  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Solo Mining on an S3 with 51.1 Difficulty - here we go! UPDATE: Block Found!! on: March 28, 2016, 05:53:26 PM
Holy cow, that's a great share and so close to being a block.  Close in difficulty to the current network diff, and close in time that it would have been a block had you got that share before March 18.  Well done!  My S3+ best share is only 44G.
626  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: March 28, 2016, 05:48:17 PM
Lol, a very illusrative example, I guess I just figured that plugs like this would be designed to be plugged and unplugged repeatedly.  I've had the miner for like 2 weeks and didn't run it all the time, so maybe I plugged/unplugged it like 10 times.  I would think a device would be expected to be plugged and unplugged 10 times in its lifetime.  I guess the cable just wasn't up to snuff, probably the wires are too thin.  I just checked and they are only 18 ga., so yea, too thin.

Does anyone have a source for stuff that I can make my own wires?  I guess the hardest part to source would be the connector on the psu side since I don't think those are industry standard like pci-e (or is the psu side of the pci-e cable an industry standard?).

I'm going to contact Block C today and hopefully they can facilitate an inspection and any necessary repairs.  Of course I would cover the cost if deemed that warranty wouldn't cover it.
627  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: いい antrun.de - Antrouter R1 Fun-Run - compare your share いい on: March 28, 2016, 05:43:12 PM
Just go to the Configuration Advanced setting tab and set the Frequency, the Save & Apply. I did not think there was a voltage setting? I think that is only in the U3 setting?
I'll bump mine up a little bit then, I never did bother with upping the frequency before because I didn't really see the point for just another GH/s or two, but for the fun run I may as well.

Here's a screen cap from my R1, voltage setting is active under the R1 tab:
628  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: March 27, 2016, 11:22:51 PM
I'm not seeing anything wrong the the psu, though.  Like I said it is back on my S5 and working just fine, so I'm not sure what contacting OCZ here would accomplish, wouldn't I expect to see some issue with the psu?

I will contact Block C, though, and see if they can look the unit over or something, maybe they can get the pci-e receptacle replaced for me.

Here's a picture of it, what do you guys think?

I simply suggest we NOT recommend worst options and costing rookies a lot of money.

Take off the accountant's hat for a second.  If someone is relying on the "income" of a dollar or two a day from bitcoin mining then they've made some poor life choices.  There is more (much, much more) to bitcoin than just trying to turn a profit.  On a large scale such as yours I can see how that is a priority, but 95% of the people in this thread are not large scale industrial miners.

Worst option how so?

The Avalon 6 is quieter and runs cooler than the S7, is just as efficient on power, and they support Kano and Ck with the latest cgminer and they do not run a pool that spits out shit empty blocks all day long.  Plus when you get an A6 it's brand new, it hasn't been hashing away in a chinese datacenter for you knows how long before being sent to you.  To me the S7 sounds like the worst option.
630  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [35 PH] ** 5x AVALON6 GIVEAWAY ** Kano CKPool (kano.is) [0.9% PPLNS] US,DE,SG on: March 27, 2016, 11:09:24 PM
ROI shmarOI

Your average user might be making a dollar a day or something, hardly what I would call sustainable income.

$482 with coupon for 4.7TH or $900 for 3.2-3.8TH Avalon 6.........
Citing a "couponed" S7 price and a full-blow Avalon 6 retail prices is not fair, just like you said.  Right now there is a group buy for Avalon 6 for $600 - $600 vs $482 (does that include shipping?) is a much fairer fight, and when you can look up and see the bigger pictures, that there is more at stake here than ROI, then the decision makes itself.  Unfortunately most people only look at the bottom line, that's a short sighted way to operate.

Otherwise anyone who buys from Bitmain has no place to complain about empty blocks or any of the other crap Bitmain...

Vote with your wallet, you are its master; don't let it become the master over you.

Nothing "silly" about the point I am trying to make, either.
631  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Core version 0.12.0 released on: March 27, 2016, 10:27:32 PM
So no one else experienced the "0.12.0 won't start up" problem like I have?  It's a weird issue that only affects 0.12 and I can't understand it.

So I am still running 0.11.2, and I minimized it to the taskbar, however the taskbar icon disappeared and now I cannot bring core up.  bitcoin-qt.exe is still running per my task manager, and my node is still up per bitnodes, but I guess I'll just have to wait for the program to crash (like it always does) before I can get the gui up again.
632  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: March 27, 2016, 10:23:01 PM
Yes, it gets unplugged and replugged once per day, I guess I'll have to look into a better way of swapping between S5 and A6 if this is what is going to result.

I thought it was a good psu and it still works just fine, it has been running my S5 for more than 24 hours since I posted those pictures.  The A6 (and S5) is going to Oregon Mines to be hosted pretty soon, once it gets too warm here, and it will get run on 2x 750 watt Dell platinum server psu's there, so I am not going to go out and buy a new psu just for a couple weeks, I was using the OCZ pair because that's what I had on hand.

The pci-e jack on the Avalon has a little bit of melted plastic inside and looks a little brown, I do not feel confident running it again until it has been checked out.  I am totally bummed that it is offline right now but would be even more bummed if it got totally destroyed, I can't afford to throw away the money for brand new hardware.

I guess I should contact Block C and see about sending it to them for an inspection, would that be the best thing to do?

Thanks for the replies, I feel better now than I did yesterday, I'll post a better picture of the pci-e jack on the A6 later today and solicit more opinion on it, but they way I am I'll probably send it to Block C anyway, just to be sure.
633  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: いい antrun.de - Antrouter R1 Fun-Run - compare your share いい on: March 27, 2016, 10:14:47 PM
Blimey. I can't get mine past 137M. Otherwise it just read 0.18ghs or so.

200 is pushing it and it does slow down and restart quite often, however you should be able to run at 150 without any problems.

Rich

Do you change the number in the voltage field when you adjust the frequency, or just set the freq and go?  I'm talking for minor oc'ing, like to 150 as you mentioned.

Here I thought I was doing well with a 120K share already, only to look and see I'm the lowest one so far, ha!
634  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BCMonster.com Mining Pool / [PPLNS Payout][Pays TxFee] 5th Block found! on: March 27, 2016, 10:00:52 PM
It's starting to get warm here.  I'm investigating where to host (still...)

I know that Krisgt30 uses Oregon Mines.  Are you in the US?

I plan to use Oregon Mines when I host my Avalon 6 and S5 pretty soon, just as soon as the summer temps start to kick in.

The S7 is cheap right now, but remember you get what you pay for!  I have been much more impressed with my Avalon 6 than any piece of Bitmain gear, plus if you support Bitmain* then you support empty network blocks.

*Yes I have some Bitmain gear but it's all second hand, so I do not give them any of my money.
635  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Mar 18 to Mar 31? picks are closed.... prize = 0.1 btc on: March 27, 2016, 09:59:28 PM
What could be interesting is what will happen if they start selling lots of S7's at new coupon price.  We might see a temporary negative from machines being unplugged and shipped.  How much... like anything hard to speculate.

But I do see them selling a decent amount at new coupon S7 price.  Could be an interesting next month.
I don't think it will be enough to move the needle, the S7 has been on the market too long now for that to happen.  Plus everything they are selling is already running so it will have a net 0 effect on network hash power.

Received, thank you!  Was a surprise to get it this "early" this week. Smiley

... and meanwhile while there's so many posts here supporting Bitmain and buying their hardware ...

Anyone notice that this was a 26s network block?
The previous network block was an EMPTY Bitmain block.
26s later we get this block with ... >1% txn fees, 988k block ...
So many people's decisions on hardware purchase are based only on price, they don't take anything else into account.  Which is a shame, because if they did then no one would be buying Bitmain hardware and supporting their empty blocks.

Forget the S7, they're being marked down for a reason.  Buy an Avalon 6 and you won't regret it!

There is a problem with my miner, it melted a pci-e cable and I have no idea why, please assist. Sad

I turned my A6 off today during the day like I have been doing since I got it, I run my S5 during the day because it can vent outside.  When I went to unplug the power cables from the miner to plug into the S5 one of them was melted stuck.  I managed to wiggle it off.

What would cause this?  It's been running great since it arrived.  I'm using 2x850 watt OCZ gold psu's.  Is there a warranty, and is this covered?  Help!  Cry
640  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: antrun.de - Antrouter R1 Fun-Run - compare your share on: March 26, 2016, 02:27:04 AM
This is absolutely free and has no hidden fees or something.
It's just for fun to see the power of the different Antrouters.
What a great idea, this looks really fun.  Since my last U3 died I stopped using my R1, it was primarily to control the U3 and keep it from ZOMBIE.  But now I have a reason to get it out of the drawer and plug it in again, count me in.
