India's semifinal berth was confirmed as soon as South Africa lost to Netherlands. India VS Zimbabwe was never a win win situation for India. They were the number one ranked side after South Africa lost in their group. They became second after Pakistan defeated Bangladesh. If India has lost today to Zimbabwe they would have still qualified.

By the way for few hours Pakistan was the top team in group 2. I am sure almost every Pakistani fan never thought that their team would have qualified for the semifinals in this world cup. All of your points make sense, but you are forgetting the fact that is the T-20 format where unpredictable stuff happens all the time. All 4 teams in the semi-finals have equal chances at winning the cup if you ask me.

In this match New Zealand completely outclass Ireland like a champion side with good target and then solid bowling from all bowlers giving them good advantage as most chances they could be ended with group leaders but here we have to praise Ireland as well because this was their best world cup with having fifth spot in group above Afghanistan which lost their two matches due to rain and not able to perform good still this is good for all these teams.
