6221  Other / Meta / Re: Signature campaign stats: users, bans, posts, deleted posts on: September 26, 2019, 05:50:30 PM
How active is for instance deeponion's signature? Could it be abandoned, but many inactive accounts still wear the signature and a few of them made some posts in the last year? I haven't seen much of it anymore, while it was the worst spam-campaign at some point during it's peak.

I think I still have some issues with stragglers. Stand by, the number of users in some of those campaigns will likely go down and the list will be reordered.

I think there are a lot of stragglers or some formula you are using is borked.
Mintdice only has ~40 people in it.
windice is ~50

might want to check how you pulled the numbers. A few others I glanced at were also off by a large number.

ETA Or what the last 3 posts above said....

Side note about the F1 changes

If all these changes will be done can happen 2 things, well 3 things.

- If new cars of 2021 will be to slow they will need to increase the power, remember when Moto 2 was near to MotoGP lap times? they increase the power from 800cc to 1000cc.
The same will/can happen with F2 and F1

- If too many changes will lead to the unification of many parts, like gears and motor majorly, the top team will leave and they will create their own championship.
Ferrari Mercedes Renault will never race with a motor made by another house. NEVER.

Everything will stay the same and nothing changes politically.

Talking out my ass here, but I think it would be better if they staggered in the changes.
Change aerodynamics and see what happens over 2 seasons. Then change tires and see what happens over 2 seasons. Etc.

The upside is that is something goes wrong i.e. the new aerodynamics and the new tires together cause an issue you can back the latest change off with less work.
The downside is that the teams are always going to be working on vehicles in flux which is going to make it more difficult.
It would probably be more expensive for the teams.

The upside (IMO) is that since stuff would always be changing it makes it more challenging for the drivers so it could make for better racing.

@LTU_btc were you on your usual connection to bitcointalk?

The local cable provider where I am is injecting javascript ads to http (not https) pages.

https://www.reddit.com/r/longisland/comments/a70owc/anyone_getting_ads_injected_into_their_web/

I know other providers do it also.

However, I have noticed at very rare times it does try to inject it into https pages if it sees any http traffic at all. The result is very odd behavior on the page until a refresh. Then it's all good again.

6224  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-07-26] The IRS is warning thousands of cryptocurrency holders to pay taxes on: September 25, 2019, 10:07:20 PM
Do you know if this is a follow up to the coinbase subpoena that requested information regarding customers  who have transactions over $20,000 or more?
Yes. As far as I know, the IRS hasn't said where they are getting their info from, and I'd be surprised if they ever did since people would then know to avoid those methods. However, there have been loads of users on this forum and on reddit who have confirmed that Coinbase shared their details and they also received the tax letters.

The IRS are likely receiving similar information from a number of exchanges, and will continue to push harder and harder until all exchanges hand over all customer details. If you have ever completed KYC on any exchange, at some point in the future the IRS will likely find out your trading history.

It's going to be interesting to see how far back they go and how much they go looking for.
The IRS has stated that below a certain amounts unless there is another reason to go after you they don't even try to collect. No letter, no nothing it's just kind of sitting there in their computers.

Make sure that there is actual contact between the case and CPU in the proper area. Cheap cases suck.
Received one of the cheap cases, the one with ribs. And as DaveF suspected, there were no contact between cpu and heatsink. There were about 1mm air gap 😕.
I cut a small piece of 1mm aluminum and fitted it with heatsink compound, which turned it into an ON solution 🙂.
Raspiblitz running at about 50C now.

What is the ambient around the case? Any real airflow? That's a 18C temp drop which is a fairly large percentage.

Side note about the F1 changes
IMO the tire (or tyre depending on where you are) changes are going to make a very large difference.
Going from 13" to 18" is going to radically change how the cars handle and move overall.

Yeah the aerodynamic changes will matter with the down-force, yeah grid position can make things more interesting. But a major change to the rubber is going to be the race very different.

Once again, IMO.

Prices are much better.

Do you know when you will be getting the Visa / MC cards for the EU refilled?

I have a few things I purchase that are from EU based vendors and the US - Euro fees are killing me. ($2.50 which is the minimum fee on a $6.00 purchase) So I have been buying prepaid cards from a friend in Poland, but this would be easier.

Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave, we got an answer of our distributor. We won't get this product very soon back. We work on a solution.
Alternative, can be Bitsa EUR? Or Paypal-Giftcard EUR?

Can't be PayPal they don't take it.
Is Bitsa a regular prepaid Visa / MC or something else? Never heard of it, but I US based so if it's an EU only thing I just might have missed it.

It's easy guys, what we are watching right now is what happens when a big mining farm quits.

Hash rate drop from 98 to 67: https://www.blockchain.com/es/charts/hash-rate

A big amount of bitcoins sold: https://bitcoinwisdom.io/markets/bitfinex/btcusd

So, what do you think, are you agree with my theory? or i miss something?

*This is just speculation, i don't have any proof to verify my theory...

#1 There was no hashrate drop. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5187273.msg52547375#msg52547375
Anyone who thinks there was a drop 100% flat out does not understand crypto mining in general or how bitcoin works.

#2 It's a commodity slump, happens all the time. Let me put it this way. You have 10 of product "X" does not matter what it is, for now lets call the product Dave
So sitting in a corner you have 10 Dave they are worth $10000 each with a little volatility in price but for the last few months more or less they are $10000

So for whatever reason you need to sell a Dave to get cash, so you sell a Dave and get your $10000. Now someone else who also has a collection of Dave also needs money.
So they sell their Dave. But since you just sold yours the market is a little soft so they only get $9500 per Dave, but they need the $10000 so they sell 1.0525 Dave to get the full $10000. The market gets a bit softer. The next person who sells needs to sell 1.075 Dave to get the $10000 and so on until the market comes to an agreement on the new Dave price.

Some people who don't understand mining might have also sold because of #1 above.

Adding to the fun it's the end of the month / end of the quarter and people and businesses have bills due. So there is probably a little extra selling going on anyway so people can get cash. If it's a small amount say .075 getting $626 instead of $750 is not great. But, if you bought it back in January when BTC was $4000 you still got more then 2x your investment so you still win.

This is how the market works.

I keep mine sealed in a gasketed plastic case. I got it out the other day, and some numerals were not typing. I will play around with it more before I panic, but I have seed words saved.
Gen 1 or Gen 2?

If it's Gen 1 some advice from the coldcardwallet site:

Quote
Touch pad is not doing what I want (Mark1 only)
Phantom keypresses have been a problem for some users. Here are some debug steps:

Install version 1.0.1 or later of the firmware.
Change the touch setting to suit your preferences and needs.
Press X twice before entering PIN; that selects the least sensitive mode.
Use a quality USB power supply. Often a battery pack is best for this.
Move to a different environment. Moisture in the air can be an issue.
One customer reported this:

I did some testing and it seemed that any computer plugged to the grid is plagued by noise, after connecting the wallet to an offline laptop running on battery power, I had zero issues with the touchpad.

Also, I have noticed when dealing with those types of contacts on other devices having some skin oil on your finger helps.
If your finger is too dry it does not work as well.

And the last 10 blocks that came in 596421 to 596430 were done in 36 minutes give or take a few seconds so that would put the hashrate at a little over 99 EH/s if my back of the napkin numbers are correct based on the current difficulty. So there you go.

If my numbers are way off feel free to correct me but that is what I am getting based on a difficulty of 11.9 T

6231  Other / Meta / Re: It's quite time for some cooperation or moderation toward signature campaigns. on: September 24, 2019, 09:35:49 PM
There really aren't that many people willing to give their best though. Each campaign(the 1s that I manage) only has so many open spots per rank. No matter who is in the spot in most cases, users are only willing to post enough to get paid. They are not posting because they like a topic, they are not posting because they want to inform others about a subject in most cases, they are posting to be paid. If they're being paid for 20 posts, then they do 20 posts. Every now and then I get a guy who is paid for 20-25 posts per week and they do 40-50 posts a week.

Look at suchmoons small sample Effect of Signature Bans. Even though it's a small sample size, it is a correct view of what happens when users are banned from wearing signatures. Users just fade away into nothing in most cases.

I'm not against users making money obviously, and I would love for everyone to make more money. Users need to stop thinking only about themselves though. When they join campaigns, their first thought isn't how can I help this company. Their first thought isn't to log in to the website and check out the platform. All they are thinking is please accept me so i can make some money.

I'm not trying to personally attack you, my answers in most cases are directed towards everyone but you are the one who posted the topic and the 1 I am responding to. Everyone has an opinion and I feel they should be free to post their opinion, whether I agree or not.

The problem I feel is the you must make "X" posts to get paid "Y" (like mintdice turned into) campaigns as opposed to pay per post  There is life outside the forum, and it can change and things can come up. Looking at the raw numbers of the sheet I have done

Week 1 = 39 posts
Week 2 = 35 posts
Week 3 = 36 posts
Week 4 = 34 posts
Week 5 = 32 posts

Some of those are in the excluded boards but all in all I have been above 30 every week.

As of today 1/2 way though the posting week I figure I am at about 16 posts.

If something happened today that would cause me to go offline for 5 days I would not make the number for this week.
AND since I would lose a day or 2 of posting into the next week I would feel that I would have to "post for the sake of posting" to make my numbers.

In the old way, with some bare requirements to post at least 5 in the gambling forum and and a lower number of required posts overall it took the pressure off so if something came up, it came up and you just made a bit less those weeks.

This minimum post to get paid I do feel encourages a bit more spam. Just my view. Others might feel differently.

6233  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Big drop in hashrate on: September 24, 2019, 07:30:26 PM
It's actually called bad programming logic.
When you have over an hour between blocks (596266 to 596267) and then over 30 minutes to the next block (596267 to 596268) it throws off calculations that are using a too small number of blocks to calculate the hashrate.

Crappy web programmers strike again.

144 blocks (1 day) is probably the bare minimum you can use to determine hashrate and that is cutting it closer then it should be.

The full 2016 blocks (2 weeks) between difficulty changes is the only real metric that matters.

6234  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Big drop in hashrate on: September 24, 2019, 06:29:01 PM
You may want to try the below link,

https://www.blockchain.com/charts/hash-rate?timespan=60days

The hash rate drop is pretty visible! It was standing at 98,120,057 TH/s on September 22nd at 5:30 AM, which then dropped to 67,383,654 TH/s within just 24 hours! For the same period, the median transaction confirmation time has increased to 13 minutes which is highest as compared to the last two month's statistics! I wouldn't wonder if it has direct relation with the market price!

Every place else has the rate still above 80

https://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/bitcoin-hashrate.html
https://data.bitcoinity.org/bitcoin/hashrate/3d?c=m&g=15&t=a

Yes, there was a brief drop when no blocks were found for a while. If you don't display your data properly it's going to look like that.

If no blocks are found for an hour or 2 does that mean that everyone turned off their miners.

It's variance it happens.

Over the last 24 hours average time per block is 621 seconds + / - a bit

6235  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Big drop in hashrate on: September 24, 2019, 05:18:55 PM
Looking at many other charts, I am not seeing it.
Still at about the proper 6 blocks per hour.

https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/ has it at 82.77 Eh/s
https://explorer.viabtc.com/btc has it at 82.84 EH/s
https://btc.com/ has it at 83.11 EH/s

You will always have variance and occasionally big spikes, but so long as over a few hours or a day you are at 6 blocks an hour then hashrate is about constant.

6236  Other / Meta / Re: Possible root cause of permanent bans because of plagiarism made years ago on: September 24, 2019, 02:32:30 PM
Yeah, going back to 2012 posts to nail someone is BS, I have said it many times.

The flip side of that is you can go back through your posts and change them if you know you did it years ago and are worried.
I have been here with this account for about 5 1/2 years and have ~1500 posts.
If I'm not sure about something from 2015 I could hit delete. If I'm not sure about something from 2014 I could do a quick edit.
Even if I had to go though all 1500 posts it probably would not be more then a few hours time.

If you know you did or think you did it, you can go back and fix it, if you care.

That is if your higher ranking account means that much to you, take the time and clean it. It's been 6 months since the plagiarizer bans really kicked in. If you are worried about being caught at this point, and have not been hit just fix it.

And yet again, the bans from posts from years ago are BS.

Has anyone heard about some crazy new rule for next season in formula 1. Commentary on local TV for last F1 race mentioned something about new grid order for next season that is on paper for the moment. The thing is that qualifying would be like this format every third race. For second and third race grid would be from opposite, first would be last in the grid. From one perspective we could have interesting races with lots of overtaking, but also think we could lose something else. Maybe we will see more SC in the race, but this is something not worth it more like touring car championship they have two races and opposite grid.

Yes, there are a bunch of new proposed rule chnages for 2021.

https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/article.2021-f1-rules-the-proposed-blueprint-for-racings-future.1Yaz5mXGa4RqEzyCt8meC2.html

Not sure if they are all 100% going to make it into the 2021 season but it's what they are pushing for.
Not all change is good.

6238  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: USBHarpoon - a charging cable that can hack your computer on: September 23, 2019, 08:30:27 PM
Too bad there's no information whether it works without superuser, admin or root-level user
The USBharpoon attack revolves around fooling the computer in to thinking the USB cable connected is a human interface device, which it will then accept inputs from. Anything a standard user can do, this USB cable can do as well, including downloading and executing some specific malware.

Anything the logged in user can do. It's creating keyboard / mouse commands so if you are admin / root and plug one of these in it is running with full privileges.

Here is one better, plug in a cable, get owned:

https://www.theverge.com/2019/8/15/20807854/apple-mac-lightning-cable-hack-mike-grover-mg-omg-cables-defcon-cybersecurity

From the article:
Quote
MG tells The Verge that his cables look and function like the standard Lightning cable you get with your iPhone. But MG hid software and hardware, including a wireless access point, inside its USB connector. When the cable is plugged into a computer, it can be triggered remotely to attempt to steal a user’s login credentials or install malicious software.

Dumped in some money lost most of it, crawled back up to a bit above what I put in a cashed out.
Smooth all the way around.
