6241  Economy / Gambling / Re: [ANN] iScratch.it - Scratch for bitcoin on: September 28, 2019, 06:42:43 PM
Well the 1st clickthough ad for me was blocked by malwarebytes:

Quote
-Website Data-
Category: PUP
Domain: free.propdfconverter.com
IP Address: 35.244.218.203
Port: [64921]
Type: Outbound

The 2nd one was then blocked by Norton, but they tend to bit a bit overly paranoid.
So yeah, it's going to be an issue.
Sorry, it looked like a fun concept.

6243  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: checkm8 vulnerability Bitcoin wallets (iPhone) is now considered insecure on: September 28, 2019, 02:06:42 PM
Not to be the "Debbie Downer" of this. But:
There are too many words in your statement. It can be summed up into "Phone wallets are not that secure"
How many times do we see issues with them?

I'm not saying don't use them. I am just saying that when I hear about people loosing tons of money because they had 3BTC sitting on their phone, I just have a real hard time feeling sorry for them.

Between the mintdice campaign, some things I sold and some BTC that I bought when the price dropped I have close to .2BTC on my main wallet on my phone. Just as soon as the campaign pays off today it all goes into a 2 of 3 paper wallet. I have a 2nd mulitcoin wallet on my phone with the "fun money" if I loose it all it sucks, but in my true overall financial situation it's not a big deal. YMMV as to the amounts, but in the end if you are not using a GOOD hardware wallet and you are on this forum with all it's knowledge then sorry if you loose your BTC, but you were warned and warned and warned.

6244  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: [Lightning-dev] CVEs assigned for lightning projects: please upgrade! on: September 28, 2019, 01:32:22 PM

So in the link posted above:

Quote
We've confirmed instances of the CVE being exploited in the wild.  If you’re
not on the following versions of either of these implementations (these
versions are fully patched), then you need to upgrade now to avoid risk of
funds loss:
    * lnd v0.7.1 -- anything 0.7 and below is vulnerable
    * c-lightning v0.7.1 -- anything 0.7 and below is vulnerable
    * eclair v0.3.1 -- anything 0.3 and below is vulnerable

But in the actual "release" of the vulnerability (It had been discussed for a while on some hacker sites and at DefCon)

https://lists.linuxfoundation.org/pipermail/lightning-dev/2019-September/002174.html

They put this in the timeline:

Quote
2019-09-07: First conclusive evidence of exploit attempt in the wild.

While having this in the text above it:

Quote
While this long-standing bug had not been independently discovered, and thus
was unlikely to be discovered by a malicious party before being fixed, it did
provide an opportunity to test communications and methods of upgrade across
the entire lightning ecosystem.

That's some really good doublethink.

I hate to type this, but you might think of adding a very basic bot or 2 for the 1/2 tables.
I have popped on now and then just to kill some time and been the only one there. So I left.
Not talking a lot of money for the site, but I did not stick around so you got nothing.
Had there been even one player I might have played a few hands.

6246  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: question about an S9 I picked up really cheap on: September 28, 2019, 02:52:01 AM
Yes you can get the connectors @ Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005T8SQ9K/

How good are you with a soldering iron? Do you have solder / flux / etc?

You can get them off but it's not always easy. There are people on the forum who do the work. But, then you wind up in the loop of buying the parts, paying for shipping, adding a bit of labor costs. Or you can just buy another used one and have a spare one for parts that only cost you $20....

I have been contacted and officially have access to ban users for spamming. Basically a quality checker for the campaign, everything else will be handled via their website. As posted in the thread, I welcome pms from spam busters who want to discuss me removing a user you feel is spamming.

Currently there are about 100 users in this campaign so bear with me for a few days while I review post histories and such. Not gonna clean it up in 5 minutes.

1) I can picture you blasting Ride Of The Valkyries in the background while banning people.

2) You should probably create a new thread about the bans you are doing and such (and probably make it moderated) If you post a link in here I will lock this thread so all the work you are doing can be discussed there under your control. Up to you. I just figure 1 central spot to discuss would be better.

Several outlets are reporting that NFL owners are a proposing 17-game slate.

Link to ESPN

If they do eliminate the preseason games I think fans are going to riot.
I know I like the preseason.

Bump since it fell off the 1st page.  I can do it for less if you send me a shipping label. I factored in $30 for shipping.
It does make a spiffy paperweight. :-)

Seriously, I am making $0.00 for myself on this, but I can go back to my customer with a lower price offer. The worst he can say is no.

Anyone want to try it and see what happens?

Let's say you risk to sell your soul to promote a shady exchange, the last time the campaign was banned with the participants. If anyone is okay to risk their account then they are welcome. I wonder when did you get this email?

PS: I think it's a reputation board discussion.

I got it about 10 minutes before I started the thread

Wait a sec... Weren't those the exact same (or at least really similar in max volume at least) terms (alongside the lack of a manager) that got them temporarily blacklisted the first time?

Sounds like it, and Yobit obviously doesn't learn anything from their many mistakes.  If only they'd apply some standards, it wouldn't be such a shit show.  They ran a campaign for years without a problem, but they way they did it last time was just awful.  They had way too many participants and allowed way too many posts--even though 20/day was what they've always allowed.  I get a feeling this isn't going to end well for whoever signs up this time around.

What if you post 20 anyway, with or without a signature. Does the signature make your post any better or worse without it?
If you're talking about a hypothetical member who's already doing 20 posts per day, it wouldn't make a difference.  Unfortunately that isn't how this is going to go.  It's going to motivate a lot of otherwise inactive members to start making that many posts per day, and the forum is going to be flooded with low-value posts.  Just like last time.

I think last time they let lower ranked people in. now it's only Sr and above so it might be better.
Could also just be my memory is wrong. Not sure

Does anyone have the list from last time? I think LoyceV or someone had the user-list of people with the sig.

YoBit Signature Campaign

Dear YoBit Users!

YoBit Signature Campaign on Bitcointalk is updated and active again!

Please update your signatures!

Details: https://yobit.net/en/signature/details/

- Sr Member: 0.00012 BTC per constructive post (20 max per day).
- Hero Member: 0.00016 BTC per constructive post (20 max per day).
- Legendary Member: 0.00020 BTC per constructive post (20 max per day).

Sincerely yours,
Team of Yobit.Net

So 20 posts per day that's 140 a week.
No mention of campaign manager or anything else.
Going to be another crapshow or are people going to behave this time?

Anyone want to try it and see what happens?

6253  Other / Meta / Re: Signature campaign stats: users, bans, posts, deleted posts on: September 26, 2019, 05:50:30 PM
How active is for instance deeponion's signature? Could it be abandoned, but many inactive accounts still wear the signature and a few of them made some posts in the last year? I haven't seen much of it anymore, while it was the worst spam-campaign at some point during it's peak.

I think I still have some issues with stragglers. Stand by, the number of users in some of those campaigns will likely go down and the list will be reordered.

I think there are a lot of stragglers or some formula you are using is borked.
Mintdice only has ~40 people in it.
windice is ~50

might want to check how you pulled the numbers. A few others I glanced at were also off by a large number.

ETA Or what the last 3 posts above said....

6254  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Motosport General discussion tread --- Formula1, MotoGP, WTCC, ETCC, DTM..... on: September 26, 2019, 04:23:21 PM
Side note about the F1 changes

If all these changes will be done can happen 2 things, well 3 things.

- If new cars of 2021 will be to slow they will need to increase the power, remember when Moto 2 was near to MotoGP lap times? they increase the power from 800cc to 1000cc.
The same will/can happen with F2 and F1

- If too many changes will lead to the unification of many parts, like gears and motor majorly, the top team will leave and they will create their own championship.
Ferrari Mercedes Renault will never race with a motor made by another house. NEVER.

Everything will stay the same and nothing changes politically.

Talking out my ass here, but I think it would be better if they staggered in the changes.
Change aerodynamics and see what happens over 2 seasons. Then change tires and see what happens over 2 seasons. Etc.

The upside is that is something goes wrong i.e. the new aerodynamics and the new tires together cause an issue you can back the latest change off with less work.
The downside is that the teams are always going to be working on vehicles in flux which is going to make it more difficult.
It would probably be more expensive for the teams.

The upside (IMO) is that since stuff would always be changing it makes it more challenging for the drivers so it could make for better racing.

@LTU_btc were you on your usual connection to bitcointalk?

The local cable provider where I am is injecting javascript ads to http (not https) pages.

https://www.reddit.com/r/longisland/comments/a70owc/anyone_getting_ads_injected_into_their_web/

I know other providers do it also.

However, I have noticed at very rare times it does try to inject it into https pages if it sees any http traffic at all. The result is very odd behavior on the page until a refresh. Then it's all good again.

6256  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-07-26] The IRS is warning thousands of cryptocurrency holders to pay taxes on: September 25, 2019, 10:07:20 PM
Do you know if this is a follow up to the coinbase subpoena that requested information regarding customers  who have transactions over $20,000 or more?
Yes. As far as I know, the IRS hasn't said where they are getting their info from, and I'd be surprised if they ever did since people would then know to avoid those methods. However, there have been loads of users on this forum and on reddit who have confirmed that Coinbase shared their details and they also received the tax letters.

The IRS are likely receiving similar information from a number of exchanges, and will continue to push harder and harder until all exchanges hand over all customer details. If you have ever completed KYC on any exchange, at some point in the future the IRS will likely find out your trading history.

It's going to be interesting to see how far back they go and how much they go looking for.
The IRS has stated that below a certain amounts unless there is another reason to go after you they don't even try to collect. No letter, no nothing it's just kind of sitting there in their computers.

6257  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Raspberry Pi 4 performance on: September 25, 2019, 04:33:32 PM
Make sure that there is actual contact between the case and CPU in the proper area. Cheap cases suck.
Received one of the cheap cases, the one with ribs. And as DaveF suspected, there were no contact between cpu and heatsink. There were about 1mm air gap 😕.
I cut a small piece of 1mm aluminum and fitted it with heatsink compound, which turned it into an ON solution 🙂.
Raspiblitz running at about 50C now.

What is the ambient around the case? Any real airflow? That's a 18C temp drop which is a fairly large percentage.

Side note about the F1 changes
IMO the tire (or tyre depending on where you are) changes are going to make a very large difference.
Going from 13" to 18" is going to radically change how the cars handle and move overall.

Yeah the aerodynamic changes will matter with the down-force, yeah grid position can make things more interesting. But a major change to the rubber is going to be the race very different.

Once again, IMO.

6259  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Coinsbee.com - Buy gift cards with about 50 crypto currencies! on: September 25, 2019, 01:34:38 PM
Prices are much better.

Do you know when you will be getting the Visa / MC cards for the EU refilled?

I have a few things I purchase that are from EU based vendors and the US - Euro fees are killing me. ($2.50 which is the minimum fee on a $6.00 purchase) So I have been buying prepaid cards from a friend in Poland, but this would be easier.

Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave, we got an answer of our distributor. We won't get this product very soon back. We work on a solution.
Alternative, can be Bitsa EUR? Or Paypal-Giftcard EUR?

Can't be PayPal they don't take it.
Is Bitsa a regular prepaid Visa / MC or something else? Never heard of it, but I US based so if it's an EU only thing I just might have missed it.

6260  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I can explain this crash... on: September 25, 2019, 12:36:35 PM
It's easy guys, what we are watching right now is what happens when a big mining farm quits.

Hash rate drop from 98 to 67: https://www.blockchain.com/es/charts/hash-rate

A big amount of bitcoins sold: https://bitcoinwisdom.io/markets/bitfinex/btcusd

So, what do you think, are you agree with my theory? or i miss something?

*This is just speculation, i don't have any proof to verify my theory...

#1 There was no hashrate drop. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5187273.msg52547375#msg52547375
Anyone who thinks there was a drop 100% flat out does not understand crypto mining in general or how bitcoin works.

#2 It's a commodity slump, happens all the time. Let me put it this way. You have 10 of product "X" does not matter what it is, for now lets call the product Dave
So sitting in a corner you have 10 Dave they are worth $10000 each with a little volatility in price but for the last few months more or less they are $10000

So for whatever reason you need to sell a Dave to get cash, so you sell a Dave and get your $10000. Now someone else who also has a collection of Dave also needs money.
So they sell their Dave. But since you just sold yours the market is a little soft so they only get $9500 per Dave, but they need the $10000 so they sell 1.0525 Dave to get the full $10000. The market gets a bit softer. The next person who sells needs to sell 1.075 Dave to get the $10000 and so on until the market comes to an agreement on the new Dave price.

Some people who don't understand mining might have also sold because of #1 above.

Adding to the fun it's the end of the month / end of the quarter and people and businesses have bills due. So there is probably a little extra selling going on anyway so people can get cash. If it's a small amount say .075 getting $626 instead of $750 is not great. But, if you bought it back in January when BTC was $4000 you still got more then 2x your investment so you still win.

This is how the market works.
