641  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion: Merit Phase 2 - Drain the Swamp (@theymos) on: March 14, 2018, 02:15:29 PM
There are a lot of cases where innocent people would be penalized under the proposed system. People who don't post that often, those who go on a break from the forum, people who post in sections where merit sources are still thin, etc would all have a much higher risk of unfairly having their signatures removed. The last thing I'd like to see is decent occasional posters begging for merit or posting when they don't want to just so they can keep their signature.

I think the better option is to just let the account farmers continue to get frustrated, and the moderators will find them eventually.
642  Other / Meta / Re: How do I see it? on: March 14, 2018, 02:10:04 PM
If you go to +Merit on someone's post, on the confirmation window where you select how many merits you would like to give someone, it will show you how many spendable merits you have.
643  Other / Meta / Re: No - My account wasn't compromised .. lol xD - koshgel troll return - on: March 14, 2018, 01:26:43 AM
Eh, if anything I think this takes them out of the running to be on Default Trust. Their last 9 months of post history don't really look like they deserve a ban. If we banned people for picking fights with others, there would be no one here left besides sig ad spammers.

- Snip -
But the Forum's policy apparently seems to allows such behavior.
I have to waste my time and lose my nerves reading his messages and feedback.

Great policy.

Best wishes.

What messages? They haven't posted for a month, and their last 20 posts go into June of 2016. They all seem to be about the forum software, gambling, and loans.
644  Economy / Goods / Re: Buying a bit of Scrap Gold and Platinum on: March 13, 2018, 08:55:11 PM
I'll bump this once, else I'll just alloy my own from 24kt
645  Economy / Goods / Buying Scrap Jewelry and Rare metals (Gold/Platinum/Paladium/Iridium) on: March 12, 2018, 07:03:45 PM
Hi there, I'm looking for a bit of scrap gold, and potentially some platinum for a side project I'm working on, if anyone wants to trade some for BTC, LTC, ETH, etc. What I'm looking for is 10-24kt yellow gold. I may be interested in white gold as well, but I don't have the proper gear to rhodium plate it, so its not as appealing to me. Platinum, Palladium, and Rhodium are also somewhat appealing, so I'll throw the offer out there as well. What I'm looking for are things like, tangled chains, broken pieces, and things with bad memories attached  Cry . I may buy stones as well if I can verify them fairly easily, but for the most part, I'm just after the metal.

I'm offering ~80% melt value, typically around 5-13% more than typical scrap gold buyers, as I do my own refining, but I am open to negotiation.

Just a forewarning, I will not accept anything sketchy, regardless of what sort of deal you offer me. Please do not try to sell me anything stolen, fake, plated, or gold filled. Its a pain to chemically separate gold plating, and its more effort than its worth. I've got chemical and ultrasound testing supplies, and it becomes pretty obvious if gold isn't gold when you melt it down.

I'm located in the US, so I'm not sure how well international shipping would work, but we can figure that out together if interested.

If you have any comments or questions, please feel free to ask.
646  Other / Meta / Re: my account is banned on: March 12, 2018, 03:14:50 PM
Spamming. Lots of your posts went to Trashcan and you even tried to translate some ANN into French. Remember? Don't be sad, I know you still have a Jr. Member account to play with.
How can you say that I still have a jr member, if I am wrong, is there any proof here.
There should be a warning for me

Warnings are given to people who make mistakes, not those who are intentionally ruining the forum. In addition, having threads moved to the trash or posts deleted does constitute a warning.
647  Other / Meta / Re: My Post Got Erased? on: March 10, 2018, 08:49:20 PM
Looking at your post history, it seems a couple of threads you made a lot of replies in were moved to the trash. They are from the Philippines local section.
648  Other / Meta / Re: Hacked Accounts! WTF is going on? on: March 10, 2018, 05:20:26 PM
I doubt it is an inside job from staff as they would have more to lose than to gain from what I imagine. Although there were a lot of accounts that were leaked and stolen. When the database gets leaked then it doesn't matter how bulletproof your passwords are. You should not follow your old accounts around on the forum and post that they are hacked in random threads. You should PM Cyrus or Theymos, ONE TIME, with proof that your the original owner. You should research what proof is acceptable, but almost as soon as you post verifiable proof the account will most likely be tagged by a DT member, removed from their signature campaign and then the account will be returned to you after due time.

The problem is "due time" can mean months. Some people have been waiting more than half a year with enough proof, and even high level accounts of Hero+ status get ignored. Looks like admins refuse to get their shit together in the account recovery department.

This will only fuel the conspiracy theory about it being an inside job, since verifying signatures is a 2 minute task. Waiting 5+ months for that makes no sense. There's no way the queue is that big.

Considering the people who post about their accounts being hacked more often than not do not provide the right information, or have not read about the proper format for account recovery, I wonder what conclusions we can draw about their wait times/success rate, versus those who just go straight to recovery in the proper format by PM. I really don't know, but I have a feeling that a good portion of the group we are drawing conclusions from are those that have to wait the absolute longest, if they even recover their accounts at all. Bitcointalk's database got leaked in 2015, the vast majority of people having their accounts hacked have nothing to do with that. If people are careless with their accounts, that is on them. Administrators shouldn't be expected to recover accounts 24/7. Just because there is the procedure in place, doesn't mean its a guaranteed thing.

It doesn't really matter if there are conspiracy theories about it being an inside job. Staff don't have any more access to the forum than regular users, with the exception of access to the reports, trashcan, and donator/VIP section. We can't see IPs, Email addresses, private messages (unless they are reported) etc.
649  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [ANN] 1st of its series, Silver BTC Blockchain statue on: March 09, 2018, 10:17:01 PM
Sorry for the lack of updates, I've been kind of bouncing all over the place trying everything at once. So I've got the production plan down, I just need to build a new kiln now. Going to convert an old electric oven into a spooky 2,000 degree oven. After that I can move ahead as planned.

Heres one of the things I was doing instead of making statues.

650  Other / Meta / Re: Please stop sellers of BTT hacked logs on: March 09, 2018, 03:24:22 PM
Things that are illegal in a buyer or seller's jurisdiction are removed, and in some cases the users are banned. And I say illegal as in drugs, stolen credit cards, etc. If you are selling unpasteurized milk, we don't really care. Trying to sell information illegally obtained from Bitcointalk on Bitcointalk believe it or not, will most likely get you banned.

Scams or potential scams are not removed. Use your own due diligence, its not up to us to decide what is or isn't a scam.

652  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Precious metal bitcoins a complete scam or am I missing something... on: March 08, 2018, 04:15:18 PM
I can field this one pretty well I believe. I can't speak about Denarium in particular, but I can kind of bring up where the premiums come from. Limited batch precious metals are very expensive for a reason. If you consider all of the setup fees involved, design, having dies created, contracts with the mints to produce them, machining fees, etc, there are flat rate costs and cost per piece costs. I'm just using round numbers for examples, but if there is a 1 BTC flat rate setup cost and a 0.1 BTC per piece cost from the manufacturer, and you produce 1 piece, its going to be a total of 1.1 BTC for 1 piece. If you have 10 made, its going to be 0.2 BTC per piece, etc. Independent coin producers do not have the capital to be able to make any sort of deals with mints.

The 15 euro over spot pieces you are talking about are produced in the hundreds of thousands or more. The more you make the cheaper it gets to do so, so the premiums get lower and lower. When you are getting a contract with a mint to produce coins for you, the blanks are probably around the same cost as those 15 over spot coins. The buying power you need to get a competitive price in the bullion market is in the millions of dollars typically, likely higher.

As for the markings and such, those are actually really strictly regulated marks. If a coin says .999 Fine, Sterling, Britannia, Argentium, or 24/18/14 whatever Kt and it isn't, its a major crime. The companies that produce it aren't that big of a deal as long as it does test as its marked properly.

Could Denarium release a coin in a series of 50, and produce 100 instead? Sure, but they probably would never sell anything else after that. Bitcoin collectibles are incredibly strange to anyone familiar with regular numismatics. I've owned silver coins that were graded, 1 of 10 in the world, produced by well known, highly collected government mints, and they didn't carry the same premium that some random chuckecheese token looking stamped BTC coins do. I can't explain where all of the premium comes from, but its a combination of the factors I mentioned before, and that people are willing to pay them.

*edit* I can't make any comment on the VAT stuff, as I'm not in Europe and have never really looked into how any of that works.

As far as trusting a company with your private keys, there are a handful of companies that have been making physical coins for a long time and have been trustworthy. There have also been companies that went defunct and screwed over their customers. Make sure you pick the right ones to trust, or go don't trust them at all.
653  Other / Meta / Re: I'm not sure about the forum rules, but it really hurts. He need to take back!!! on: March 08, 2018, 02:56:46 AM
I'm not sure what the point of this thread is. Someone offended you, so what would you like to be done about it? Its not against forum rules, so it wont be deleted. People are welcome to use obscenities or commonly considered offensive language as long as their post isn't spam.

I guess what I'm asking is what you hope to accomplish here. If everyone said, yes, he should apologize, it would still be up to him whether he did it or not, so making a public thread is less productive than just asking the person privately.

I'm hugely offended by the word lemon, but I have a hard time getting people to stop saying it.
654  Other / Meta / Re: PUNISHMENT FOR SHITPOSTERS (NEWBIES BEWARE!) on: March 07, 2018, 03:34:26 AM
-snip-
While ignorance of the rules isn't an excuse, its far more excusable than someone who knows they are breaking rules but continues to do so.

From my point of view, both ignorance of the rules and continually breaking the rules are basically the same.
Users who didn't care about the rules for one bit should never be allowed to post after all (maybe this is too extreme?).

I agree that accidental rules breaking should not be treated the same as someone who breaks the rules intentionally.
But if someone ignores the rules continously, then they are basically don't care a bit about the forum.

I see a lot of this behavior on my local board. It is clearly stated that they must read the pinned thread. Even if you are new to the forum, it so easy for you to see that guidance thread after all. But sadly, they just don't care as long as they can increase their post count for the signature campaign they've joined. The irony is, not only newbies do that. Even a Sr. Member did.

Are they different from someone who keeps breaking the rules? I don't think so.

Oh of course, I mean someone who broke a rule once or twice in a single occurrence that did it genuinely by accident will not be punished as hardly as someone who is trying to avoid being caught (some exceptions apply). Once you've done it once and you now know, the warnings are over. Frankly speaking, there are a lot of people who haven't read the rules, and some of them are just fine. Basically, as long as you aren't spamming or doing anything illegal, the moderation staff will never pay you any mind. There are a few small rules here and there that may not be 100% common sense like many of the anti spam rules are, like deleting your old bumps and such, but we do keep in mind that some rules are easily missed, and give more reminders than bans about them.
655  Other / Meta / Re: PUNISHMENT FOR SHITPOSTERS (NEWBIES BEWARE!) on: March 07, 2018, 02:41:34 AM
mhmmmm..... Well, the reason we don't have set "This Offense = This Penalty" is because things aren't so black and white. You can be permabanned on your first offense without any pm warning if its appropriate, or you might get 50 warnings. Intent is a good part of it, people who accidentally make a few poor posts aren't penalized as hard as those who are clearly here to make as many posts as possible. People who have a few slip ups but are generally good posters might not even get a warning, whereas someone who's ratio of good to bad posts may get one sooner. Another example is someone who breaks a rule accidentally vs someone who is breaking it intentionally but trying to avoid detection. While ignorance of the rules isn't an excuse, its far more excusable than someone who knows they are breaking rules but continues to do so.

We aren't going to fine anyone, that is a terrible idea. It would create an extortion market, not from moderators, but from individuals. "Hey pal, for 0.01 BTC I wont report this post that'd get you banned"
656  Other / Meta / Re: Ban for don't know why on: March 06, 2018, 08:21:59 PM
You are asking the reason, even though the reason is written right in your own post. It even says Reason: and duration.

Hello, i was banned.
"Reason: Participating in an on-forum altcoin giveaway. Ban duration: 7 days"
No messages from the admin for which post I was banned, no feedback.
What is the reason for this, can someone explain to me?

While you wait for your ban to expire, please take a look at this thread.

A new kiln is in the works, as well as a few others things. Last few weekends have just been gear maintenance and such, so not much new. But I will start work on the statues when I'm done with the kiln, and from there, you'll have to see.
658  Other / Meta / Re: My account has been taken over, who do I talk to? on: March 06, 2018, 03:09:48 PM
If you post some proof here, some people will mark the account with negative feedback saying its been hacked so it will be harder for the hacked account to do business in your name. In addition, for account recovery, see the quote below for the proper format for submitting an account recovery request.

If you use any sort of Google email service, then the password recovery email will go to your spam folder.

If you want us to recover a hacked/lost account, you need to prove that you own it. Typically, the only acceptable method of proving ownership is by signing a message (including current date and desired new email address) using a Bitcoin address or PGP key associated with the account. A Bitcoin address or PGP key is associated with the account only if the account posted the key/address, sent it in a PM, or if it is still listed in the account's profile.

I very rarely recover accounts if you can't prove ownership as described above. There are alternative ways of proving ownership, but they take too much time. If I point you to this thread, you can't prove ownership properly, and then I ignore your future PMs, this means that I'm not going to recover your account. Create a new one.

Send one PM to Cyrus. If Cyrus doesn't respond after two weeks, you can try sending a PM to me instead. When sending a PM, use a template like this:

Quote
-----BEGIN BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE-----
My account <account> has been hacked/lost. Please reset the email to <email>. The current date is <date>.
-----BEGIN SIGNATURE-----
<insert address here>
<insert signature here>
-----END BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Here is the unedited post where I posted that address: ...
OR
I sent that address to someone in a PM with PM ID#...

All required info must be in one PM.

Do not create your temporary account using the same email address you want for the hacked/lost account. No two accounts can have the same email address.
659  Other / Meta / Re: Banning system unfair? on: March 06, 2018, 03:02:51 PM
Ok I know many people will say to ban me again for ban evasion or something but this is really unfair, I had a previous account username ShadowMaster45 and I got banned for no reason at all, I wrote a ban appeal and asked to be unbanned but no response for 2 weeks and then I wrote again and now 3 times I have written ban appeal, I don't even know why I'm banned? It has been 2 months since I have been banned and the only reason i can think of for getting banned is that I suddenly had a lot more activity than before... Earlier my account was not in use but suddenly I started using and then bamm I got banned and now I can't use bitcoin talk....

Would you like to post a link to your banned account? I can probably tell you why you've been banned if you do. As far as ban evasion goes, if you've been banned, you are allowed to create a new thread in meta for the sole purpose of discussing your ban, however, you may not post anywhere else, or it is ban evasion.

on this forum it is very easy to break the rules that get you banned. need to very carefully read the rules, and always think a head.

Actually, if you use this forum as a forum, its exceedingly difficult to get banned. Really, spamming is at the core of just about every rule. Why people would think its acceptable to spam on a discussion forum is beyond me.

This forum wont ban you for having unpopular ideas, using offensive language, or being a jerk in general, so long as you are actually constructively posting and not trying to rank up accounts quick to earn money for signature campaigns. A lot of the "hidden rules" where people complain they didn't know about them are pretty common sense things.
660  Other / Meta / Re: Can I post on 1 forum section only? on: March 05, 2018, 01:47:48 PM
I've been reading the forum for quite sometime now, studying how everything works.
There are stuff that I am not sure yet so I'd like some clarifications. For newbies that know semi nothing here and obviously cannot contribute detailed information regarding bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, are we not allowed to post anything? I saw a comment here that says posting is not necessary and that we only need to read. But then I see plenty of sections here that are not bitcoin or crypto related especially in Others. Am I not allowed to just post in off topic for the mean time since I cannot contribute any post related to bitcoin?  I'd like to join is some discussions in offtopic but I also read that you'll risk your account getting ban or something. So what is the offtopic for?

You are welcome to post wherever you'd like. Posting in the off topic section isn't the same as posting an off topic reply in a thread. If a thread in off topic is about different types of donkeys, and you post about how you think Bitcoin's price is going to spike, it'd be off topic. Your post would be deleted, and too many deleted posts and you'd be at risk for a ban.

If you are new to cryptocurrencies, I'd recommend checking out the beginners and help section here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=39.0

If you are technically inclined, reading the Bitcoin technical or Support sections may also help with increasing your knowledge. I'd also highly recommend checking out this list of forum rules if you haven't done so already. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=703657.0

If you make posts like this thread, you aren't going to be at risk for a ban. If you are in doubt, just see if your posts hit a few criteria. 1) Is my reply about the topic of the thread. 2) Is my post something that brings information to the discussion in the form of new ideas, or my opinion. 3) Can my response be replied to, as in, can it be expanded upon or does it bring additional conversation points to the table. A post that says, "Alright, I'm in" vs "I've decided to support this project, the use case is something I've thought of before, and this project could effect so in so in this way." If you just say, I'm in, the only way someone can really respond to that is, "good for you, me too." The second example, you've created a stepping stone for discussion about the use case, the effect, as well as your opinion on the matter.
