642  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is Linux Ubuntu the most secure OS to store my BTC on? on: August 20, 2013, 04:21:51 AM
More secure than Mac? Don't be too sure about it, Mac is actually very secure and I haven't read of someone being on Mac and getting bitcoin stolen.
It does happen: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=266813.0

How does that show a weakness in the Operating System? That shows a weakness in social engineering, of here is an easy to use vanity generator but it is really a trojan.
He said he did not read about anyone getting BTC stolen on a Mac. I did not really follow the Win vs Mac vs Linux security discussion.

Thanks for the help everyone!

Looking at that cavirtex site just curious why the price is so low. 1BTC = $90CDN. Where as in other sites that I have looked 1BTC would be worth around $110. Do different sites sell at its own various rates?

Sorry I'm pretty new to this and trying to wrap my head around everything still.

Hope you don't mind paying a cheaper price and get your bitcoins faster than with MtGox!

My point is that if a coin is profitable to mine with gen1 ASIC then gen2 ASIC can merge mine it for no additional cost thus making it unprofitable for gen1. Not like Litecoin that can't be mined with SHA256 ASIC.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your post.

The problem is Coinbase only does exchanges with american banks. I have my wallet setup on coinbase however cant purchase anything! What are Canadians using to exchange funds over to bitcoins other than mt. gox?

Don't forget that a simple SHA256 Bitcoin clone can be merge mined alongside Bitcoin like it's the case with Namecoin or Terracoin.

Way more secure and practical to disable password authentication and use key-based/certificate authentication.

Governments can't reach beyond their borders ... Use the cloud Luke:

Encrypt
Upload to the cloud in very many difference places/countries/cloud operators
Hard wipe your hard drive.
What can the gov't do if they don't know the data exists ?

claims by the competitors
Stop blaming stuff on "competitors".
Your site is buggy and does not offer clear public stats. That's what the people want.
I've received suspicious PM urging me to cashout while the website was on constant DDOS. I don't claim this is a ponzi or not but I noticed suspicious behaviour from some members that seem connected to another competitor that I will not name for now.

The site is buggy but I didn't notice anything wrong and been monitoring the profit/loss change bet by bet. All my cashout have been processed quickly and support answered back to me within 1hour several time.

I've been trying to withdraw 30 BTC for 2 daysw now.  Was told earlier that they would look into it.  Sites down and getting  403 forbidden.  Not looking so good.

USD withdrawal are delayed since many months.
