641  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: I got scammed by whatsapp contact and exchange on: December 23, 2023, 02:37:16 AM
Oh my, that's a big amount! What a waste!

I think you've probably done the things that need to be done. It's just so sad that whether you will make that next deposit or not might not matter at all. It doesn't mean your expenses will stop, either. Surely, lawyer fees aren't too cheap.

Anyway, since you're still communicating with that scammer and they've already made so much money from you, although hoping against hope, is there any possibility you can sweet talk him/her that you be allowed to withdraw even a portion of your funds? You think the scammer still believes you're still falling for it, right? Perhaps a promise of an even bigger deposit soon might convince them to allow you to withdraw even a little for now?

But it was a really "good" scam, i have to say now when i reflect about all the stuff.

I don't agree. This is even a very common scam.

If you like, you might want to share how the scam really unfolded so that others will be warned.

I bet this isn't just a financial manager, a total stranger at that, convincing you of depositing tens of thousands. If you're a man, is this contact a woman? Was she a bit flirty in your correspondence?

643  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 'Attack on Bitcoin’ Claims Circulate as Transaction Fees Climb Higher on: December 23, 2023, 02:00:06 AM
I remember there were a number of Bitcoin supporters, even developers if I'm not mistaken, who brushed this Ordinals issue off when it was launched months ago saying it's not a big deal, that it will just die sooner rather than later, that they be allowed since they're paying fees for their transactions anyway, and so forth. Now, this issue has already escalated a lot and we seem to be taken back to step 1. Whether this now is a deliberate attack or not, bold steps should be taken. After all, it has already shaken the very core of Bitcoin. And I guess this transaction fee problem has not yet even reached its climax.

People who supported Ordinal at the beginning did not see that the emergence of this shitcoin could have a bad impact on the network. It's true that they pay fees for the transactions they make and the Bitcoin network is decentralized and can be used by everyone, but when one community annoys many people on the network with their shitcoins and empty dreams, shouldn't bitcoin devs take action against it? but as far as I can see no concrete steps have been taken, only empty talk to tell members to wait patiently for the network to return to normal.

You're responding to a post I've made many months ago, in the first half of the year. Indeed, this whole inscription thing hasn't died sooner rather than later. Apparently, it has become a big deal. I hope we are in the climax part, although I doubt it.

To be fair, however, despite the rising fees and unconfirmed transactions piling up, Bitcoin is continuously sailing. The price has even increased significantly. Back in May of this year, when I made that post, Bitcoin was only $27,000. Today, it's $44,000. So, whatever damage Ordinals have caused, it hasn't really discouraged people from Bitcoin.

Concrete steps are taken. Ordinary users like us will have to wait. But I believe that even if all these things are left unattended, things will get better at some point. This whole thing is built on sand.
644  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is merit necessary for my survival here on: December 23, 2023, 01:27:59 AM
First and foremost, you already have an account here. You've already made posts, even opened threads. You're a newbie and has zero merit. That means you can secure an account in this forum, engage in discussions, and read other users' posts without merit.

As for survival, it's simply a matter of following the rules. Plagiarism, for example, could cause you a permanent ban. Merit isn't required for survival.

Merit is important for ranking up, though.
645  Economy / Exchanges / Re: CRYPTOPIA liquidation and Grant Thornton and something new on: December 23, 2023, 01:04:29 AM
Anyway, I've also received an offer from Cogito to purchase my funds stuck in the exchange with Cog tokens. I don't think they're legally entitled for this kind of deal.

As a matter of fact, I've received a prior email from Cryptopia warning of "unsolicited email from the Hong Kong company “Classic Focus Limited” ("CFL") outlining a proposal to purchase their claim in exchange for a supposed digital coin." This is different from the offer coming from Cogito but there are similarities.

I disregarded them all. As a matter of fact, I'm not anymore hopeful of this liquidation.
buy back... so that's what they want, our money. Thank you, now I understand.

I also don’t hope for a real return of coins, but I hope to warn others against phishing and fraud

It's not really a buy back. If it were an offer denominated in Bitcoin or at least in USD, it could have been considered a buy-back and I might have accepted it. After all, there seems to be no end in sight for this whole liquidation process, but it wasn't like that. It simply was an offer to exchange whatever you have stuck in the exchange with an unknown and worthless token.

Also, the deal is rather suspicious and unfair.

"The agreement to purchase your coins for C500 Cog is a purchase regardless of your coin value under $500. So if you have $499 worth of coins you get C500, if you have $2 worth of coins you get C500. So you have nothing to lose."

What kind of absurdity is this, right? If I have $500 worth of coins in there, and Cogito is giving away $500 worth of Cog even to those who only have $1, it seems wrong. This, to me, is an obvious indication that this Cog token is worthless and this whole scheme is nothing but a bait for Cryptopia account owners to legally transfer their claim to this scammer.

647  Economy / Economics / Re: Currency is Passé on: December 22, 2023, 03:03:08 AM
So what are you proposing now, another cryptocurrency? We have tens of thousands of cryptocurrencies already. I'm not discouraging you from exploring and coming up with another innovation, but if you're avoiding clutter, these tens of thousands of cryptocurrencies are already cluttering the market. As a matter of fact, they're giving crypto a bad name rather than push for its overall adoption.

Anyway, you might want to create a proper announcement thread for your project and post it in the proper section.
648  Economy / Exchanges / Re: CRYPTOPIA liquidation and Grant Thornton and something new on: December 22, 2023, 02:33:22 AM
The Cryptopia liquidation process has been very messy. I haven't felt that they're serious and that they're urgently looking for ways to give back funds to the owners as early as possible.

Anyway, I've also received an offer from Cogito to purchase my funds stuck in the exchange with Cog tokens. I don't think they're legally entitled for this kind of deal.

649  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance withdrawal fees are too high, what do I do? on: December 22, 2023, 02:09:55 AM
Where are you planning to move it? If you're withdrawing it to a wallet that supports Lightning, then use that option. If you're moving it to another centralized service which supports altcoins, you also have the option to convert it to an altcoin first which is much cheaper to withdraw. But if you are withdrawing it to a Bitcoin-only wallet that doesn't support Lightning, I'm afraid you have no other option but to sacrifice around $35.

Or, if you're withdrawing an amount small enough that paying $35 for its withdrawal is ridiculous, why don't you leave it there for a while? It's unsafe, yes, but you're using Binance anyway. You must have trusted that exchange even a little. And if you also trade every once in a while, it might hurt you more if you move your Bitcoin in and out of the exchange every now and then.

Either way, there will be trade-offs.
650  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins and other cryptos will never become mainstream before... on: December 22, 2023, 01:49:01 AM
-snip-
Now, it's kind of funny and sad how the main purpose has to take the alternate route, the layer 2, because the main network is busy with inscriptions.
Before BRC20 appeared there was no network congestion as it is today, everything was fine.
But after the inscription strikes everything becomes very heavy and more transactions have to be confirmed.
Usually I only spend around $1 with a fairly fast confirmation but now $1 does not represent anything for the transaction, it needs 10x more and a very long confirmation.

When the alternative path takes a Layer 2 Lightning network, why not, if that is a better alternative.
Is it possible that BRC20 will be phased out or use their own network, as this is a new problem on the Bitcoin network?

Network congestion isn't a new problem. BRC-20 might have made everything worse, a lot worse, but everything wasn't really fine before it arrived. Scalability isn't a problem only revealed by the advent of Bitcoin NFTs. It has already been dealt with in past. Hundreds of thousands of unconfirmed transactions isn't a reality that's exclusively brought about by BRC-20. The network has experienced it in the past.

Lightning network is an alternative. Liquid network is an alternative. They may be good alternatives. But my point is it's somewhat odd that the main purpose of Bitcoin will have to be realized in different networks because the main network is busy with monkeys and punks and whatnot. How about an interchange?
651  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Have any one had experiences with banned bank/providers because of gambling? on: December 22, 2023, 01:20:35 AM
I haven't had a similar experience, but I know of a number of friends who have this kind of experience. And it's not either the gambling activities or the legitimacy of funds; it's actually both. Financial institutions are cautious when dealing with gambling funds. Gambling funds are more or less perceived as illegitimate. Gambling, after all, is not really acceptable as a fund source. That's why there are financial platforms which don't allow deposits coming from gambling platforms. It's best to read the terms and conditions first.
652  Economy / Economics / Re: Learn to use DEBT in a proper way to create asset on: December 21, 2023, 03:07:05 AM
I guess debts are basically categorized according to whether it is put to good use or not. In which case, it is unfair to immediately conclude that borrowing money to buy gadgets is bad. Why buy those gadgets? Is it simply because you don't want to be left out among your friends in terms of the latest? Is it because it is convenient for you to watch shows anytime and anywhere you like? Or is it because you can actually find side jobs with those?

It's not necessarily about whether it increases or decreases in value. Cars, smart phones, laptops, and the like decrease in value over time, but it doesn't mean they aren't worth borrowing for.
653  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins and other cryptos will never become mainstream before... on: December 21, 2023, 02:26:37 AM
The reality is that, why should people be buying water bottles with Bitcoin? If we consider the practicality of it all, why should we choose Bitcoin as payment for our cup of coffee? Sometimes I wonder whether those videos of children buying a piece of banana or a glass of lemonade using Bitcoin is the best way to promote Bitcoin. Cold cash would be best. Perhaps Bitcoin's whitepaper is where the point is, that it is an electronic cash, that it is for online payments, for eCommerce purposes.
Yes, and in the modern era like today, Online transactions are needed, Bitcoin is a good option for Online payments and ecommerce.
But Bitcoin's current problem is scalability, which has recently been paralyzed by an increasingly dense buildup of transactions and this has brought traffic jams with fees rising dramatically.
The Lightning network could be a solution, but there are those who oppose it and development is also lacking.

Bitcoin has grown into something else, or at least it has more than one function now. It isn't anymore just the internet money that it used to be mainly about. I don't know whether the thing that paves way for monkeys and punks and rocks and shrooms is essentially a bug or a vulnerability or a feature, but it seems obvious to me that Bitcoin is primarily for monetary or financial purposes. Now, it's kind of funny and sad how the main purpose has to take the alternate route, the layer 2, because the main network is busy with inscriptions.
654  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Advise: Too much customers equals much problems to contend with. on: December 21, 2023, 01:44:51 AM
The more users there are, the higher the demand for block space is. The more activities there are on the network, the busier it gets. There will be congestion. There will be competition in fees. Those that pay higher, of course, are most likely prioritized. You'd feel a little frustration. You'd wonder this would all end up especially in terms of adoption as real-world money. But, yes, in times when Bitcoin fees seem unbearable, there are other cryptocurrencies that serve as good alternatives.

656  Economy / Economics / Re: Setting up financial structures before going into the family way on: December 21, 2023, 12:38:32 AM
Of course, it is best that you are financially capable of supporting a family before you enter into marriage. But don't give too much value to your financial well-being just so that you can marry the girl that you love. I'm afraid that's missing life. I guess it's primarily about values and character. You can marry the love of your life even if both of you are poor. And then you confront life's challenges together, hand in hand. Many rich families here accumulated vast wealth, but it all started with their parents sticking to each other through thick and thin, helping each other.
657  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Local Base Or International Based Online Casino on: December 21, 2023, 12:16:55 AM
I guess I will consider other factors more besides whether a casino is local or not. As far as cockfighting is concerned, there's no other choice but to support local options because there are no alternatives. But when it comes to online casinos, there are tens of other options. Surely, there are way better casinos that are based abroad than ones which are local-based.

But there was a time I was looking for a sports betting site which offers the local currency aside from crypto. I hardly found any that is more or less reputable until I found one which is international-based.
658  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do NOT overpay your transaction fees. on: December 20, 2023, 03:01:38 AM
I'm sure many Bitcoin users don't even know how to take your advice.

"Do NOT overpay your transaction fees." What? What does it mean? How? Why, can we pay less? Can we change our fees?

How many of us here check the mempool first before making a transaction? Or how many here actually knows there's such a place to know the optimum fee? How many of us here actually do the steps to minimize the fees? Many of us here are even using legacy addresses until now. How many actually use wallets that allow personalized fees?

In fairness, however, the users knows about RBF. That's probably not something a newbie normally knows. Unfortunately, he/she used it to his/her disadvantage. Apparently, there's more he/she needs to learn.
659  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is bitcoin ok in Viet Nam? on: December 20, 2023, 02:15:50 AM
Do not take legal information from here. The answers above are not from vitamins, and if they are, you need to ask them about the source of the legal data. A Google search may give misleading results, so you need to ask a lawyer specialized in financial affairs before you make a purchase, or in the best case scenario, do it P2P is in a public place and in small amounts.

Yeah, the responses above are not from vitamins so OP can hardly get any nutrients from them. LOL!

Kidding aside, yeah, they aren't coming from Vietnamese or from people residing in Vietnam, but I guess it's not really a question of complicated legality. It's probably enough that OP knows that Bitcoin is legal in the country and that he/she can purchase some without violating any laws.

OP, I guess tranthidung here is Vietnamese. She's probably one of the most, if not the most, prominent and active Vietnamese here. You might want to consult with her for first-hand information regarding Bitcoin in Vietnam.
660  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Jpg monkeys are making the fees impossible? Just use a meme coin! on: December 20, 2023, 01:27:12 AM
It's just so sad that Bitcoin's adoption as a legitimate money is easily hindered, slowed down, heaven forbid halted, just because of monkeys.
Nah, it didn't. It just showed to Bitcoin that it gotta do better. If it can't handle this monkeys, how do you expect Bitcoin to be adopted into real world?
What do you mean it didn't? That Bitcoin's adoption isn't hindered by the exorbitant transaction fees?
If Bitcoin was ready for adoption, it wouldn't have been hindred by these monkeys. Ordinals are not problem, rather Bitcoin's own incapability to handle.

I'm afraid there are technical aspects of this that need discussing, of which I'm not an authority. But it's quite unfair to outright accuse Bitcoin of not being ready for adoption. In the first place, Bitcoin is still in beta. Development is ongoing. It's not a one-time big-time thing. Also, circumstances change. What's good enough in the past may fall short of the present needs, but I guess Bitcoin isn't rigid enough that it's incapable of reacting or growing accordingly. Third, there will be trade-offs. To be fair, you can never have a perfect Bitcoin, let alone a perfect money. You can accommodate one thing but compromise another.
