While the foreign reserve sanctions have brought to light the risks of holding reserves in foreign fiat currencies I don't think Bitcoin would necessarily benefit from Russian influence at this point. Bitcoin is more tolerated than welcomed as is, a close association to the Russian economy would probably make Bitcoin a currency non grata for good.
Either way it seems unlikely to happen as the Russian government has more interest in trying to restabilize the Ruble by increasing demand for it. Things would maybe look differently if Russia had more vested interest in Bitcoin but given their rather hostile stance in the past they are unlikely to benefit from rising Bitcoin prices; hence they are more likely to focus on the Ruble instead. Especially since denominating export prices in Ruble would enable them to nudge the exchange rate towards a more favourable direction.

If the fed will stop the money supply that much as they said will do rate hikes it means 80% of the money supply will be gone and we talking about 60-80% asset prices fall.
How do you come to this conclusion? While rate hikes will make it less attractive to buy assets on leverage (ie. credit) it doesn't mean that "80% of the money supply" will be gone. It just means that the money supply will increase at a slightly slower pace, or at least that's what the Fed is hoping for. While stock market prices will fall eventually the way they always do, it does seem that in a weird twist of fate both the pandemic and the war in Ukraine cooled the markets down a bit before they could get too far ahead of themselves. |

Gödel's incompleteness theorems concern "formal axiomatic system containing basic arithmetic" to quote Wikipedia. POW is an algorithm not a formal axiomatic system so theorems do not apply.
According to the Curry-Howard correspondence, there is an isomorphism between programs (algortihms) and proofs. So the Gödel's incompleteness discoveries should be extendable to algortihms. Interesting necro  I guess Gödel's incompleteness theorem being applicable to algorithms is more or less reflected in the halting problem? Doesn't seem to be really relevant for PoW though. Both Gödel's incompleteness theorem and the halting problem require a minimum of complexity to be present which you don't have in Bitcoin's PoW algorithm (or even Bitcoin script). |

They simply dump it. If two weeks have passed (as a default value) and the transaction hasn't got into a block yet, they'll dump it to free space. I suspect that the transaction is removed from the overwhelming majority of nodes, but most importantly, from most mining pool's mempool.
I think that depends from node to node, like on Bitcoin Core, it is actually 14 days as you commented. Also this can get frustrating, normally the central server or node will keep on rebroadcasting it especially if the person's wallet is sychronize with the blockchain, that is why it is better for such person to never let his wallet not to sychronize during the time for it not to rebroadcast over and over again. Good point about wallets automatically rebroadcasting transactions, potentially causing the transaction to stick around the mempools for longer. IIRC Electrum "gives up" at one point and let's you manually decide whether to try again or to remove the unconfirmed transaction from your history for good. Not sure how Bitcoin Core and other wallet implementations handle it though. |

Zur Abstimmung: ich hatte den Gesetzestext und die Implikationen davon nicht im Detail angeschaut, hatte aber gelesen, dass selbst wenn der Entwurf durchgegangen wäre, kein zwingendes PoW-Verbot erfolgt wäre. Viemehr ging es darum, dass selbst PoW betrieben werden kann, wenn die Miner gewisse (ökologische) Standards einhalten. Standards, die man danach noch hätte definieren müssen.
Aber keine Ahnung ob die Info stimmt. Der genaue Wortlaut war folgendermaßen: Crypto-assets shall be subject to minimum environmental sustainability standards with respect to their consens mechanism used for validating transactions, before being issued, offered or admitted to trading in the Union. Dementsprechend hätte ich die Situation ähnlich verstanden, allerdings weniger im Bezug auf Standards für Mining Hardware sondern mehr im Bezug auf Standards für Konsensalgorithmen -- was auch immer das bedeutet hätte. (Absoluter Stromverbrauch? Stromverbrauch per Transaktion?) |

Sie, als Teil einer reichen Elite, haben mit der Methodik der Geldmengenvermehrung auch kaum Probleme oder Einschränkungen. Aber die normalen Bürger spüren immer deutlicher, wohin die Reise geht, wenn sie die Preise im Supermarkt oder an der Tankstelle sehen.
Das kann man ja doppeldeutig lesen. Entweder als ein Angriff auf dich (sie sieht dich als "Teil einer reichen Elite", der sich für den normalen Bürger nicht interessiert) oder als Kompliment, da du zu der "reichen Elite" gehörst. Ich glaub das dieser Absatz eher auf "Lagarde, von der Leyen und Co." bezogen war  (auch wenn deine Interpretation nicht ganz verkehrt ist  ) |

Ich hab starke Zweifel das die Leute die für ein PoW Verbot abstimmen auch nur den Hauch einer Ahnung haben wie wenig das der Umwelt bringen und wie sehr es der EU als Technologiestandort schaden würde; während es gleichzeitig einer neuen Generation an Scam-Projekten Tür und Tor öffnet. |

How long would that even take? Take existing malware, swap out BTC address detection for *insert coin* address detection, swap out BTC address insertion for *insert coin* address insertion, done. Probably under 2 minutes. At this point I'd assume that your run-off-the-mill clipboard malware comes with multi-coin support. Once a victim is compromised there's no reason not to check against multiple address formats for whatever coins may be profitable. |

Is there a way to get a list of which hardware is being used for nodes on the network and sort it on a list? I assume many people take extra steps to not leak this data so probably we can't get a good idea of what hardware is sustaining the network. An exact list will be hard to come by, but I would assume that a good portion of current nodes is run on "standardized" setups like Umbrel or RaspiBlitz, especially given the recent influx of Lightning Network nodes. A subset of those folks will likely keep some of the standard settings around that come with the ready-made OS Image, at least when they first get started with running their node (e.g. Time Lock Delta, Min HTLC, fees on freshly opened channels...). Based on that you might at least make an educated guess on some of the nodes that are running the network. I doubt those numbers would be accurate enough to be meaningful though. |

60k€ in Russland sind erst der Anfang.
Also nur noch ein paar Wochen/Monate warten und dann endlich Krypto Millionär sein, nur halt leider in Russland  Spaß beiseite, wundert mich auch, dass der Kurs dort zu viel höher ist, als bei "uns". Können die nicht über andere Länder gehen ? Selbst wenn man die SWIFT Blockade irgendwie umgeht hat man am Ende des Trades immer noch nur Rubel und keine Euro. Die zu Wechseln kann je nach Volumen dann noch mal eine eigene Challenge darstellen und in der Zwischenzeit ist man einem Fremdwährungsrisiko ausgesetzt welches derzeit nicht gerade gering ist. Selbst die Türkische Lira schaut derzeit besser aus als der Rubel. |

Teilweise gibt es ja sogar Gerüchte das Russland ggf. auf Teile der Privatvermögen der Bevölkerung zugreifen könnte um notfalls die weitere Finanzierung des Krieges zu gewährleisten. Während ich nicht davon ausgehe dass der aktuelle Preisanstieg rein den Russen zu verdanken ist, denke ich schon das die Bilder der russischen Banken Runs so manche Leute im Westen zum Nachdenken angeregt hat. |

Wer jedenfalls keine Lust hat für irgendein Land den Arsch hinzuhalten sollte diesen wohl besser im Ernstfall mit einem Ledger bestücken und sich über die nächste Grenze absetzen.
Ich hoffe dass ich mir und meinem Ledger zu meinen Lebzeiten diese intestinale Erfahrung vorenthalten kann.

As per this article: https://tftc.io/martys-bent/issue-1170, If Russians are able to get transactions included in blocks alongside individuals from countries who are still connected to SWIFT, it sort of makes the chord cutting mute. In an attempt to prevent this from happening it is totally possible that the US government and other NATO governments would try to thrust regulations on the mining industry to keep a blacklist of Russian bitcoin addresses at all times and never mine a block with a transaction that is sent from any of those addresses lest they want to be subjected to harsh punishments for violating sanctions. Worse yet, they could even try to force a whitelist of approved addresses tied to the identities of individuals and make it so mining pools are only allowed to interact with those addresses. Apart from what the others already posted regarding Bitcoin, be aware that it's not like a disconnect from SWIFT is a complete isolation of the Russian banking sector. At the end of the day SWIFT is still "only" a messaging layer, so while it will make international banking more cumbersome for Russian banks, they can still process transactions by other means long before Bitcoin may come into play. What's going to be more interesting is whether the Federal Reserve and the European Central Bank are going to cut off Russia's access to its foreign currency reserves. If they block Russian transactions of USD and EUR at the settlement layer -- which they can do since USD and EUR settlements between banks need to go through the Fed and ECB respectively -- that's when Russia's banking sector will start hurting. It will also be a reminder of the riskiness of foreign currency reserves and that having a non-governmental supranational currency in reserve may be more valuable than governments currently assume. |

Looking at the characters of an Address it'll be difficult to memorize and the only option is to copy to the clipboard. My question is if they are other means of getting around this attack except crosschecking the address before sending. Because, sometimes I'm not perfect I'll just send my funds out to the address without crosschecking like everyone else who has something to attend immediately. Keep in mind that while cross-checking you don't need to check the whole address, character for character. Checking the first 5-7 characters at the beginning and / or end of the address should be more than sufficient. The addresses that clipboard malware sneak in usually look nothing like the intended address since they'd have to generate a vanity address on the fly which isn't really feasible. |

Größtenteils korrekt. Wenn du einen eigenen Lightning Network Node betreibst hast du abhängig von der jeweiligen Implementierung unterschiedliche Backup-Lösungen parat:
Da sage ich auch mal danke für diese Ausführungen, da mir dieses Thema auch noch nicht so klar ist/war. Bisher bin ich mangels Zeit noch nicht dazu gekommen meinen Node aufzubauen, obwohl die notwendige Hardware bis auf die SSD eigentlich schon da liegt  Das Thema Lightning Channel Backup wird meines Erachtens ein bissschen stiefmütterlich behandelt, da teile ich gerne meine Recherche-Ergebnisse. Der Vorteil von LNDs Ansatz ist das du nur ein einziges statisches Backup des Channels am Anfang anlegen musst.
~Dazu kommt das die Lightning Network Nodes mit denen du den betroffenen Channel offen hast (1) dieses Feature ebenfalls unterstützen müssen (was mittlerweile allerdings kein Problem mehr sein sollte) ~
Kann ich den den Hinweis, das dies kein Problem mehr sein sollte, so interpretieren das dies inzwischen fast Standard ist und man daher eher diese Variante der Einfachheit halber favorisieren sollte? Es scheint inzwischen fast Standard zu sein aber welche Variante jetzt die "bessere" ist... schwer zu sagen. Ich würd sagen bei SCBs kann man im Zweifelsfall weniger falsch machen, aber man ist auch etwas mehr von seinen Peers abhängig. Wenn deren SSD zufällig zeitnah zu deiner crashed habt ihr beide Pech gehabt. Idealerweise hätte man meiner Meinung nach beides, aber soweit ich weiß wird jeweils nur die eine oder andere Variante unterstützt (wobei SCBs von C-Lightning anscheinend zumindest als Peer unterstützt wird). Welche Backup-Methode man verwenden kann hängt dementsprechend davon ab für welche Implementierung man sich entscheidet. Unterm Strich hat LND das ausgereifteste Ökosystem, C-Lightning wahrscheinlich die beste Performance und Eclair den leckersten Namen. |

Allerdings ist es nicht ganz von der Hand zu weisen. Bitcoin hat auch Eigenschaften, die in unserem Verständnis vom friedlichen Zusammenleben unpassend sind. Absolut. Dasselbe gilt ja auch z.B. fürs Internet. Die Frage ist dann immer nur welche Einschnitte noch proportional gerechtfertig sind und inwiefern Vorwände nicht einfach nur instrumentalisiert werden. Aber was muss Bitcoin für Eigenschaften haben, damit es für viele illegale Aktivitäten ungeeignet ist, aber die Vorteile ((Pseudo)anonymität, Zensurresistent, Dezentral, Vertrauenslos) weiterhin behält?
Zu einem gewissen Grad ist Bitcoin ja für illegale Aktivitäten ungeeignet, wenn auch auf Grund der Auflagen denen Exchanges heutzutage unterliegen. Davon abgesehen wäre eine solche Eigenschaft nicht mit Bitcoins Grundprinzipien vereinbar. Wer würde bestimmen was legal und was illegal ist? Aus Russlands Sicht ist die Invasion in die Ukraine vollkommen legitim während jene Russen die für den Frieden demonstrieren wahrscheinlich schon mit einem Fuß im Knast stehen. |

Die Nachfrage nach Bitcoin könnte steigen, wenn viele Ukrainer den Bitcoin zur Kapitalflucht benützen würden. Ebenso wenn Russen Sanktionen mittels Bitcoin Transaktionen umgehen wollen - es steht die Drohung des Westens im Raum, Russland aus dem internationalen Zahlungsverkehr auszuschliessen. Für ukrainische Kapitalflucht in Bitcoin ist es zu diesem Zeitpunkt denke ich zu spät. Da haben die Leute mittlerweile andere Sorgen. Wie es nach der Invasion der Russen mit der Ukraine weitergeht ist meiner Meinung nach noch schwerer vorherzusagen als der Bitcoin Kurs. Das Russen Sanktionen mittels Bitcoin Transaktionen umgehen könnten sehe ich hingegen schon eher. Sollte das passieren können wir uns allerdings schon jetzt auf das nächste Anti-Bitcoin-Narrativ einstellen und mit noch stärkeren Regulatorien rechnen. |
