If I had a large stash of fiat and wanted to make some more then I would probably start buying up BTC just when everyone is waiting to hear if the ETF was approved or not. Peeps would then see price beginning to moon and think "hey someone knows something that the ETF has been approved" and then get all the minnows buying in on the idea. Then BAM, sell, sell and sell some more and make a tidy sum on the way back down.
Only thing is that seemed way too fast to be able to make any money out of it if that was the case.

Nice beartrap ...

What kind of an idiot sells any kind of substantial amount of coins right now when the price could be literally anything ridiculously high in years to come.

It might not even be years. Probably months!!
663  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 04, 2017, 05:45:26 PM
My bet is ETF does not go thru. But most folk imho expect that. Thus again imho
It will drop $900 to $1000 at most and climb back up within a month.

Will have 5k to buy more about that time maybe.

If etf goes thru will still
Need to buy fast before on hell of a rise imho

So it's all 😊 Good!

What makes you think that? Im not sure what to do. I don't want to sell, only to wake up at the ETF having passed and feeling suicidal as the price goes into deep into the unknown space, and meanwhile all im holding is useless fiat trash.

I can't know what to do, because there is no way to know what will happen.

Odds are useless, anyone that saw Brexit happen and Trump becoming the president of the United States should know this already.

Got to agree with you on that. The longer I spend time here the more I realise most people are just gambling!

Bitcoin was on Bloomberg live TV about 15 minutes ago, interviewing some guy about the ETF.

They weren't sure if the Winklevoss twins would use their own coin or have to buy more on the open market.

Whatever the case, they said there's going to be a huge run on Bitcoin in the event the SEC passes.  Very bullish.

Hope they archive it soon.

https://www.bloomberg.com/live/us

B...but weren't we told yesterday that all media is evil and they just ridicule Bitcoin and say its all a big hoax?  Huh

Just jokin...  Grin

Here's another choice one from Bloomberg.
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-03-03/bitcoin-is-now-worth-more-than-gold

Notice the main title:
"Bitcoin Soars to a Record High"

Sounds really positive for a change, right?

Then looks what slaps in the face you next.  The subtitle:
"How long can this rally last? After a peak in 2013, bitcoin fell 53 percent."

They make sure to pepper the negatives right away, and throughout the articles. They want to make sure Average Joe is scared shitless to stay away. Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

People don't realize that Bitcoin is not just the Next Big Thing. (Aka a fad that will sooner or later die off)

It is the Forever Big Thing.  That will keep on getting bigger.

Don't worry in the end the truth will always be outed.
In other words no matter how much the press/media try to influence the general public, in the end when everyone is boarding the train they will be the first to say it is the best thing since sliced bread

Not sure if this has been asked before, Did a couple of google searches but didn't come up with anything that specifically answers this question so here goes.

If I have some network drives that have relatively low connection speeds or I have very large plots 10TB and more the network becomes the bottleneck.
The specific question is what happens if my drives don't finish reading before the next block is found?
Will any of the read count at all on the pool or does the read need to finish completely before it is considered valid?
Any help/guidance would be appreciated.

The miner read your plot file, for each DL that it find it immediatly subit it to the network, even if it didn't finish to read the wole file, so no need to finish the whole plot file to subit a valid DL.
Sure you want it to finish the whole file as many times as possible because like this you get more chanse to win a block.

By the way for all of your technical questions you can find all the answers to the BURST forum here:
https://forums.burst-team.us/

Thank you

That dump on stamp of 3500 BTC was worth around $4,200,000. Someone wanted a new house/mansion.

What happened with r0ach? Wasn't he very bullish on bitcoin last year?

He got kicked out of his synagogue for inappropriate behaviour. He hasn't taken it well.
I laughed out loud on that one!

This latest spike down due to PBOC FUD has some very interesting parallels with the SilkRoad take down Sept. 2013 spike before the Oct. 2013 mark-up event. Firstly it is happening at a very similar point in timing of the adoption wave fractal around/near testing previous ATH. The first waves $2-32 and $12-266 were arguably due to demand created by SR and associated activities/hype/speculation then when SR got taken down and bitcoin powered on the new meme was China ... then that topped with the PBOC bans, Mt. Gox, etc. This final spike low is the handing off the China meme and proves bitcoin doesn't need China any longer because it now has a new scale of demand coming onstream .... the ETF or institutional demand speculation meme is taking over the reins from China at the same point in the cycle in the same way as China took the reins off Silk Road. One final spike down and then everyone realise Silk Road/China is no longer the driving demand force anyway .... and away it goes.

I have been meaning to ask Marcus.
What does the mathematical equation represent in your avatar?

What the fuck happend

My Chinese friend sent me this link:

http://finance.sina.com.cn/china/gncj/2017-02-08/doc-ifyameqr7339635.shtml?qq-pf-to=pcqq.group

You can use google translate, it means:"PBOC(The People's Bank Of China) has a meeting about anti money laundrying with Chinese major bitcoin exchanges(I translate it)"
You would have thought that the market would have got used to these "China bans bitcoin" fake news by now.
Man people are soo jittery.

i am not a techie. no IT guy at all. i came across bitcoin by means of a historic perspective. what strikes me most is the blatant ignorance of most of the IT guys that i talk about bitcoin. they always laugh. i mean those guys are professionals, the make their income because they figured out that digitization is a mega trend, but they refuse to see the elegance of bitcoin. how can this be?

They do see it. That laugh is a nervous one, that covers up a little bit of anger, and feelings of 'missing out'.

Hey, I am an ex-IT guy (changed career in 2009) and I am in! Granted though, it took me a while to start seeing the true disruptive potential of Bitcoin and the Blockchain. Started mining scrypt in 2013 just before the meteoric rise to ATH before jacking it in when the returns began to diminish drastically. Exchanged my LTC for BTC and have been accumulating and Hodling ever since.

Hmm you know what good point. I didn't think about it from that angle. I concede and agree. We should start eradicating nazis right now, before they get too strong again

It's certainly gone far enough in terms of fascist, misogynistic, anti-semitic, hate rhetoric here.  Tempting though it is to eradicate this kind of scum completely, I would settle for a post ban, to take away the keyboard warriors' ability to spread their disease.

Adam would not have allowed this, why does Lauda?

Believe me when I say that I don't believe a word of what Roach is saying BUT if we start censoring posts then isn't that (almost) as bad as the BS that is being spread by Roach and his ilk?
Essentially by stifling others from saying what they wish is a form of top down control and is aligned with the same idealism that these guys are advocating.
I think the only person/group that should be censoring posts for me is me. Oh look, there is an ignore button!

Well reasoned, my friend.

It is through taking away the responsibility for information processing from the individual and giving it to the authorities, that we make the individual eventually incapable of such feats. As such they become a helpless tool in the hands of the authorities. Which is is exactly what right and left-wing authoritarians desire. Because the unwashed masses are too stupid to think for themselves, so they, the enlightened despots have to do it for them!

(not realizing that it is precisely their behavior towards the masses which provides incentive for them to remain too stupid to think for themselves)

That said, I do think this discussion would be better served in a more appropriate forum rather than a Bitcoin wall thread!

Well it does make you think that if the majority of trading is happening in China then being held to ransom by the PBOC is to be expected.
If Bitcoin and the traders alike can stomach this and it can survive then its onwards and upwards.
Until adoption is widespread enough (read beyond China's borders) then this is to be expected.
Doesn't stop it from hurting though as I am feeling it too.

Hey guys,

I just registred right now, before i was some kind of observer of the observer thread  Grin
After the actual crash i tried to keep cool. I'm not some kind of big investor. I "only" hold a few k in BTC actually.

Anyway, after the coaster ride between 920 and 970 I thought it will go straight up soon. But we dropped under 900.
Because I was wrong and never expected the under 900 drop I have had no fiat ready to buy some coins.

I really regret not having fiat ready to buy some more coins at this time. In my opinion we will be on our steep rising again in only a few days. The green candles are becoming more and more. Meanwhile I keep hodl my coins.

From my view a lot of people are to emotionally, I mean you may have "earned" 10k in BTC in the last weeks. And what is the situation now? You will still have a profit of about 5k. So keep being rational.  Smiley

For me I have found that you should always keep a little of both currencies that you intend to trade in so that you always have some fiat or bitcoin to trade if the market swings either way.
As an easy example let's say that we are at a point where 1 BTC equals $1000 and you have both 1BTC and $1000.
You then set buy and sell orders at regular intervals from the $1000 point, let's say 5%.
So set a buy order at $950 for around 0.2btc worth and a sell order at $1050 for another 0.2btc.
Then when one of these orders get filled set up another buy and sell order around the new price at that point.
It's not very scientific but seems to work ok. Just make sure your margins are large enough to cover the exchange fees.

Thank god. The damn is breaking. Armstrong recommends adoption of segwit asap.

Thats encouraging
Lets hope things move a bit quicker and segwit is adopted soon. Could be the green light we have all been waiting for.
